After securing the radio transmitter to the car with the beautiful young woman he'd seen and making sure the signal was properly being received by his tablet, Knox returned to his small apartment and the state of the art technology he had there. His salary with Wolfram and Hart meant he could have lived in a much nicer and larger apartment, but things like size and space or view meant nothing to him. Half the time he fell asleep at the lab anyway. And unlike his employers, Magic wasn't an interest of Knox's, science and technology was. Hence the state of the art personal computer system he had, which had back door access arranged to the computers set up in the lab and consequently the programs on those computers and their computing power to add to his own system. He transferred the tracking data to his computer and overlaid a map grid of Southern California on it and watched as the signal moved north until it stopped in Sunnydale, California.
Knox well knew about Sunnydale, home of the Hellmouth and an irresistible lure for vampires. He also knew the military had taken it over last year after the Slayer, Buffy Summers, had dumped it into a canyon thinking she was stopping an apocalypse while actually causing one. Wolfram and Hart's Files and Records were very thorough when it came to both their own employees and people of interest and the Slayer was definitely of interest to them. Which is why when he checked Files and Records he discovered that Buffy Summers was no longer a Slayer, was deafblind as a result of correcting her error and living in a facility between Sunnydale and Los Angeles. It paid to be thorough. There was also a cross-reference listed to Faith Lahaine, current Slayer, address listed, Sunnydale, California. But nothing else.
"Odd, unless she's got serious protections on herself." He murmured when he saw that, which was odd because the Watchers Council had never used protections on the Slayers. Themselves, yes. The Slayers, no. But the Watchers Council was gone, so the Slayer was on her own. If she had half a brain she'd get protections on herself, it seems she did, hence why Wolfram and Hart had no information about her. "Well, she doesn't interest me anyway, so not a big deal." That was until he checked the address listed where the tracking signal had stopped and his search turned up the fact that one of the apartments in that building was owned by Faith Lehaine.
"Coincidence or do these people know she's the Slayer and live near her for protection. Or is that young woman actually the Slayer? Something to take into account, because it would make acquiring her more difficult. I need to keep an eye on the situation and plan this out. And I need pictures of Illyria's future host. Maybe a trip to Sunnydale? Not a good idea, that town is crawling with both military and vampires." Setting the system to alert him if the radio signal began moving again, Knox went to bed, only to be woken up at two a.m. as the signal started moving again. It returned to Los Angeles and he was surprised when he found the address it stopped at was a movie studio. "Well, she's beautiful, not surprising she'd want to be an actress." Again he set the system to alert him and went back to bed, he had work in the morning and unlike actors, his started at eight.
Near the end of his work day his system alerted him that the radio signal was moving again and this time it stopped at a very interesting place. The address indicated the facility was where Buffy Summers was living. He managed to hack into the traffic cameras near the facility and matching the radio signal to the cameras, watched for the car Illyria's future host was in. The cameras took pictures automatically and once he had them, he set a facial recognition program. The pictures showed three occupants in the car, a male, of no interest, another female, also beautiful, but not his type and the young woman. The camera resolution wasn't good and it only caught part of her face, he had access to the lab computers for an image modeling program, thank you, Eve for updating the systems and set it to run while he got something to eat. It would take awhile anyway and wouldn't be perfect even with the newest programs available, which meant there'd be multiple hits. But he'd eventually get her name and from there, he'd get her. To increase his odds of success, he also began a facial recognition search on both the other female and the male. Their faces were much clearer in the pictures and would be easier to find.
Turned out they were easier to identify and nothing could be found in regards to Illyria's future host. No state IDs or licenses listed anywhere in the United States. She wasn't active on Myspace or the brand new Facebook social networking platform that started in February of this year, 2004. But the other two had New York issued licences. Alexander Harris-Chase and Cordelia Chase-Harris.
But nothing on Illyria's future host. Which meant he had no name, or information about her. "Would make it easier if I did, are they visiting her or does she live in New York with them? His ID is military, maybe he's been transferred to Sunnydale? My best bet is to grab her when they're in Los Angeles or if they stop to visit Buffy Summers again. They must know her, but Files and Records has only the one cross reference, Faith Lehaine. They have protections too, which means so does she. But I have something a military grunt and an actress don't, intelligence. This should be easy."
