Epilogue

Elphaba and Fiyero arrived in the Emerald City as the sun began to drop beneath the horizon the next day. Glinda practically tackled both of them, glad that they were both safe and sound. They gave her a proper update and the blonde promised that they'd have a strategy meeting in the morning. Fiyero went in search of dinner for he and Elphaba while the green woman went looking for Boq.

"There you are. I've been wandering around looking for you," Elphaba said. She'd found the Tin Man in Morrible's old office. He seemed to be digging through the fish woman's books – she could guess what he was digging for.

"Sorry I didn't come out to greet you. I've lost track of time," Boq admitted as he leaned against Morrible's desk.

"That's not all you lost track of. You'll never guess who I bumped into while at the Munchkin capital," Elphaba gave him a look. Boq tried to play dumb but she cut him off before he even tried.

"Boq, your father thought you were dead. Why haven't you written him?" She asked.

"What am I supposed to tell him? That I'm the Tin Man?" He gave her a look.

"Touché, but you could have at least let him know you're breathing," Elphaba said. Boq heaved a sigh.

"You're right. I should have," he nodded.

"I told him you were still kicking. I did not get the chance to explain everything. That said, it won't matter as he is on his way here," the green woman told him.

"What?" Boq looked like he was about to have a heart attack.

"Boq, I made a promise to you and I intend to keep it. Queen Ayla found something that may do the trick but I must warn you – I don't know what will happen if it doesn't work. So do you want to wait for your father to get here or do you want to try it now?" Elphaba asked.

"What is the worst that could happen?" Boq raised an eyebrow.

"I honestly don't know. No one has tried to reverse a Grimmerie spell before. We know what happens if I try to speak the spell backwards and I goof so…" the green woman trailed off.

"So, this could be my only option that might not kill me, got it," he nodded.

"Look, you do not have to make this decision right this second. Your father won't be here for another two days. He wanted to be sure that Councilman Arif arrived in Munchkinland safely and voice his support. Mull it over and let me know," Elphaba told him.

"Thanks," Boq nodded again. It was a lot to absorb.

"I'll see you in the morning," she promised before heading out of the door, leaving him alone with his thoughts. Slowly but surely, she wound her way through the halls to find her and Fiyero's room.

"You got lucky. I've been eyeballing your dinner," he chuckled as she closed the door behind her. The food smelled good and the Prince had it on the small table in their room near the balcony doors.

"Oh, is that so? You'd let me starve?" Elphaba gave him a look.

"I would never," Fiyero promised as he got out of his seat and pulled hers out for her. Elphaba sat down and began to eat her food.

"So, you tell Boq?" He asked after a few minutes.

"That is what I did. I do not envy him this decision. I know he doesn't want to be the Tin Man but being alive is still better than not being so," Elphaba admitted.

"True. You've done all you can do, now it's up to him," Fiyero said.

"Indeed. We shall see what the morning brings," she nodded. Fiyero got up from his chair and wrapped his arms around her shoulders before kissing her temple.

"You have to get some rest – after dinner of course. I love you but I need you in one piece," he said.

"I've always been terrible at taking care of myself," she pointed out.

"That's why you have me," Fiyero teased. Elphaba chuckled and the two went back to eating dinner. Once that was done, Fiyero put the dishes on the cart that he'd used to bring them to the room and pushed it out into the hallway. Then the two got ready for bed and climbed under the covers. Sitting up against the headboard, they cuddled until they fell asleep. Oz was safe once again – for now.
