Chapter 2: Unexpected Events
As Ms.Mallard Continously stares into Jay's window "Okay, I got you where I want you freak" Ms.Mallard whispers as she aims a tazing blaster that had Ambrosius Spectra Solute energy that doen't affect normal humans, but is fatal to Shadowbanes based on the spectrum of light, obviously Ms.Mallard could be wrong that this kid was a Shadowbane, but she saw him use powers, so he must've been a Shadowbane. She had to capture him even if he was her student she didn't care, she was only hired as a teacher to hunt Shadowbane's, as she aims her gun she knocks over a flower pot that was on the ledge next to Jay's room, breaking it which startled Jay. "Oh,crap" Ms. Mallard whispered, "You got lucky, I won't rest until all your kind is drained" Ms.Mallard whispers as she leaves the platform.
As Jay woke up he walked over to his window to see what happened, he saw that a flower pot was shattered on the ground but besides that there didn't seem to be any other signs of damage. Jay decided to shrug it off and just go to bed, after all he had a big day tomorrow.
When Jay woke up he got ready for school and went downstairs to eat breakfast, he was wearing a Blue and Turquioise Ombre Shirt, a silver chain as well as his sapphire pendant, a grey jacket, jeans, and sneakers, and a grey beanie. "How'd you sleep" Lisbeth said, "Eh, Fine" Jay said, Meryl entered the room was wearing a mint green sweater with a short skirt and leggings, and white buckled shoes. "Good Morning, Mom, good morning Jay" Meryl said, "Good Morning Meryl, d'you need anything to eat before school" Lisbeth said. "I'm probably just going to grab a granola bar" Meryl said. Meryl grabs a granola bar, and leaves the apartment and heads off to school, "Why don't you go to school with your sister" Lisbeth asked, "I don't know, it's just complicated" Jay said. Lisbeth sighed "Remember what you said last night, about that you found out that there was more shadowbane's at your school" Jay looked terrified to the fact that she caught on, "I wasn't going to be able to keep it from you, huh" Jay said. "Nope" Lisbeth said, "Fine, that wasn't the only thing I found out yesterday, apparently……….there's something……..at our school………that's mystical" Jay stammered. Lisbeth nods as if she already knew this, since she did, she isn.'t completely honest with her kids ever since they lost there home, something that she knew that no one else needed to. "You don't looked shocked at this, is everything alright" Jay said. "Yeah, I'm alright hon, now why don't you head off to school" Lisbeth said, Jay nodded running out the door with his skateboard, and as he leaves Lisbeth glances over to the phone.
As Nya enters the school with her friends, Pixal is looking at science documents on her phone, while Harumi is doing her nails Nya's looking horrified, as she had a nightmare last night or a vision, consequences of being a Psychic. She didn't want to talk about it with Kai since he would probably laugh about it. The only person Nya could think about who would understand would be Jay, especially since he probably had them as well. The problem was that she had to find him first with his Phantom Physiology that made it harder to find him, so she wanted to talk to him about it in History as that's the only class they have together. As she's waiting Nya goes to her locker to get some notebooks she would need, while there she sees Chad with Cole and Kai behind him, farther then normal. "That's weird" Nya thought, as she got closer she could see what was happening Chad apparently was holding Jay by his throught, Kai was trying to convince Chad not to do it and Cole was just there as usual. "Chad, we don't need to worry about this nobody" Kai says trying to talk some sense into Chad. "Don't worry Kai" Chad says still holding Jay in his hand. Jay knows he can just slip through Chad's grip, but everyone would see him disappear he would need a distraction, luckily in the corner of his eye Nya shocked in horror. He came up with a plan a crazy plan that would probably not work and he would reveal who he really is to almost the entire school, he tried to concentrate on thinking the plan so that Nya could intercept it while trying not dying. Nya can't fully control her mental abilities as her telepathy kicks in every once in a while, luckily this was one of those times she picked up Jay's request which was crazy, but she must do it to save Jay. She walked to the darkest corner so that no one could see her and used her sonic banshee scream which can distort anyone's senses, including Shadowbane's (unless they had diminished hearing) which when she used it she was shocked that Jay wasn't infected. Jay used this as a chance as everyone was crouching covering there ears and quickly vanished before anyone could notice, Chad fell to the ground unconscious as he was the closest to the scream. Nya followed Jay's shadow which she could easily do, thanks to her X-Ray vision, she followed him to the Hisory Room where he just sat in his seat waiting for class to start. "Hey, you okay" Nya asked Jay, Jay let out a small sigh "She knows" Jay answered "She knows what" Nya asked confused, "She knows that the academic award here had magical properties, and she didn't look shocked that I knew what it was either" Jay said. Nya takes this all in and than it hits her "How did you keep it from her in the first place if she can see through" Nya asked. "Oh right, I can manipulate my memories like discarding them or cloaking them, it's never permanent as they resurface over the smallest things" Jay answered. "That's cool, but what's so important about the award" Nya said, "I'm not sure, however I do know that it's made out of a mineral called Umbrasite, which has magical properties" Jay says. Nya takes the this all in "So, now what" Nya asks, "I don't know" Jay decides, just at that moment the bell rings signalling the start of class.
Later into the Class Ms.Mallard starts talking about their first group assignment, where they had to research about a historical event and make a poster presentation about it. Nya, Harumi, Jay, and another kid named Cecil. Nya decided it would be great for Harumi and Jay to get to know each other since they were the only two in her class who she knew, Cecil on the other hand was the most unliked person in the class and most pitiful person, besides everyone else already formed groups. There assignment was based on the First War between Shadowbanes and Humans, Nya and Jay weren't exactly happy about this, neither was Cecil, which Nya found shocking, considering that Cecil was human after all. The four agreed they would take on certain aspects of the research, Cecil would take the Beginning of the War, Harumi said she'd take the conclusion of the war, and Jay and Nya said they would split the research for during the war. Jay was wondering why Cecil insisted on taking the Beginning since no one, not even Shadowbanes knew what caused the war to start. Nya and Jay picked the duration of the war, since mostly all Shadowbanes knew what happened during the war, both Sophisticated and Feral. Harumi picked the end since both Humans and Shadowbanes knew what happened near the end.
During lunch Jay decided to check out the Award case where he first saw the award. But when he came close to the case he saw that it wasn't there. "What, where did it go" Jay said, "Looking for something" a voice said from behind. It was Ms.Mallard "Oh,Ms.Mallard, Uhm I'm just checking the award case, it's very interesting" Jay says trying to avoid suspiciousn. "Yeah it is, only the greatest students get them: If they do great in Physical, Artistic, Tactical, and Academics" Ms.Mallard explains. "Then where's the academic award" Jay asks, Ms.Mallard glances over to the case and sees that the history academic award is missing "What are you talking about, we never had an academic award for the History" Ms.Mallard simply said. Jay looks confused "No,No that can't be right I saw it here yesterday" Jay says frantically. Ms.Mallard knows what she has to do, but he can't find out yet, "Well it doesn't matter, now get going finish your lunch and I'll see you tomorrow" Ms.Mallard says walking away in the direction she came in. Jay walks back to the cafeteria he had Science next and he was excited for it since he loved Science.
In Science they sat in groups of 3-5 he sat with those kids he saw the day before eating alone, Lloyd was the kid in green and Zane was the kid in white, they only decided to sit next to each other because they were all lonely. There teacher Mr.Brun who had frizzy brown hair a mauve polo shirt and brown cargo pants, and a striped tie, "Good afternoon class, Today we'll be further exploring chemistry and next week we'll be doing are first chemistry lab, you'll be working with those you sit with, even though I might be regretting that decision" Mr.Brun said glancing over to the back corner table which had 5 trouble making kids. Jay was seni-excited for the lab, since Lloyd had told him and Zane that he didn't really like science, and his mother forced him to take science. Zane's father was an Inventor, so Zane didn't have a problem with Science, especially Computer science. They didn't talk that much yesterday since they didn't know each other at all, but these two were definitely hiding something. Jay wonders why'll looking at his group, Lloyd immediately placed his head on the table and Zane resulted to his phone which was actually some sort of futuristic laptop, which sort of shocked Jay, but he continued to do his own thing. When Class ended he went to Zane "Hi, Uhm Zane right" Jay said, "Yeah, that's me" Zane said, he was wearing a white hoodie with a Arctic design, blue jeans, and frosty white hair. "Uhm, I noticed that… Uhm, Sorry I'm not great with social interaction" Jay says, "That's Okay, neither am I, I moved here just last year" Zane said, "Really, so did I, I'm new here too, Oh, I'm Jay by the way" Jay says. "I'm Zane, but you already knew that" Zane says, Is that it". "Uhm, yeah" Jay remarks even though that wasn't true. Zane realized that Jay was lying one of skills being empathy and lie detection, Zane doesn't understand why Jay's lying to him, but then again Jay doesn't know that he's a Shadowbane, but Zane doesn't know that Jay's a Shadowbane. Before Zane could say anything Jay immediately runs out of the room.
Jay's last class of the day is Art and nothing happened except for the fact that he has Cecil and Pixel in this class. His teacher Mrs. Parker has brown frizzy hair, a red shirt, brown pants, a white splattered smock, and shoes. "Alright class, today we'll be expanding on what we learned yesterday, learning more brush techniques, like the…" Just as she said that the power went out and the sprinkler turned on. "Oh, okay class everyone remain calm, exit the room in an orderly fashion" Mrs. Parker, Cecil glances over to Jay, leaving Jay questioned. As they exited the room Cecil is still glaring at Jay for unknown reasons, Pixel catches on to this and is confused, walks over to Cecil and whispers something to him. As they're outside Jay's wondering why Cecil was glaring at him, he also looked angry, Jay couldn't understand, but once he was outside he could see why. All the lights down the street were still on, there was no sign of fire which would've caused the sprinklers to turn on. Something or Someone caused both the Power Outage and all the Sprinklers in the school to turn on, 'Cecil must be blaming me for this' Jay thought, but then shook the idea away 'There's no way he would blame for this, unless he knew that I was a…, no Jay that's impossible'. However when Jay glanced over he noticed he couldn't find three particular people, Kai, Cole, and Chad. Jay realized they must still be in the school, he would have to find a way to get into the school unnoticed, unaware of Nya who was behind him said "You want to look for them, don't let me stop you" a voice said from behind him. Jay turns around and sees Nya behind him "Well, what are you waiting for then" Nya said gesturing towards the school, "Yeah, but how do we get in unnoticed" Jay said. "I have an Idea" Nya said "Come On".
They walked behind the school and saw the entrance door open, "Are you sure about this, Nya" Jay asked. "Aren't you the one who wants to check it out" Nya answered, "That's not what I meant, but this isn't normal" Jay assured, walking into the school. If Jay wasn't a Shadowbane he would probably have been miserable, if it wasn't for the invisible shield he can generate. They walked around the school for a while, getting there shoes and socks wet, when they made it to the first Locker Corridor they saw three figures walking into a room close to them. When Jay and Nya got close to the room they saw that it was the Supply Power Room, when they entered they saw the three figures take off there hoods and just like Jay suspected it was Chad, Cole, and unfortunately for Nya, Kai. Jay knew that they couldn't draw any attention to them as they were hiding behind some boxes and tried to signal to Nya to stay quiet, unfortunately Nya didn't get the hint and immediately yelled without thinking "KAI, HOW DARE YOU" she shrieked. Kai, and Chad turned, and Cole didn't since he had headphones on as usual, Chad had to nudge Cole to get his attention which startled him. "What Chad" Cole said then turned around "Oh". "What are you two doing here" Chad asked, "I could ask the same thing" Jay said, Chad looked around and chuckled "You do realize your outnumbered right" Chad said with a confident smile. Jay sighed "Quick Question Chad, why would you do something like this" he asked. Chad confident smile wavered, but still managed to sound convincing "What are you talking about, we didn't do this, you did" Chad said. "What, no we had nothing to do with this" Jay said. "Sure, whatever you say, but that's not what they'll think" Chad said. "What are you talking about" Nya said, "You'll see" Chad said leaving and as soon as he left both Cole and Kai teleported, and the next thing Jay knew both him and Nya were tied to a cement pole. The next moment was just as confusing as the last "Right here Miss, we were just walking down here where we saw them turn on all the Sprinklers and turn off all the power" a voice said sown the hall. "I see, well I can't ignore such display of misbehavior" another voice said, Jay was frantic so he did what he did best disappear, "Hey, Jay a little help" Nya whispered. "Oh, Sorry" Jay said untying Nya from the pole. And just as that happened the door opened and in came four figures, Chad, Cole, Kai, and an older woman probably in her late 30's. "Jay Walker and Nya Smith, I can't believe this" the woman said sternly, "Principal. Martins, this isn't what it looks like'' Nya Smith said frantically. "Oh, I think I see it very clearly, Detention for both of you" Principal Marins said sternly.
As Jay, Nya and Principal Martins walked down the hallway, Principal Martins was on the phone making some phone calls. "Yes, I'm so sorry Ma'am, I'll tell her right away" she said on the phone, Jay looks confused and whispers something to Nya "Who is she talking to". "My Mom, they're good friends you know" Nya whispered back, "Okay, come know you too I have to talk to you" Principal. Martins said opening her office's door. She gestured for Nya and Jay to sit down in the chairs and walked over to her seat. "Now, you two, mind explaining to me what happened and why Chad blamed you for it" Principal Martins. Jay and Nya both look confused, "Wait what" Jay said breaking the silence, "Oh, please, Did you really think I'd believe Chad Folsom of all people" She exclaimed. "But, what did you say to my mother" Nya asked still shocked. "Oh, that no you see, me and Maya gare in a book club and this week's host called in sick, so I have to contact everyone that our next meeting is canceled" Principal. Martins explained. "Oh, thank goodness" Nya sighed in relief, "But there is still one question I want answered, why'd you both go into the school" she questioned. Jay gulped as well did Nya, Jay finally broke the silence "Uhm, I just wanted to check what happened as I noticed it wasn't natural" he explained. "I see, well I'll talk to Chad, you may now leave" Principal. Martins said, Nya and Jay both left and went back to their classes.
After school, Jay went on his way home, before he did that, Chad dropped a bucket with eggs inside over his head. "We got him so good" Chad said smirkly, "Can you guys just leave me alone" Jay mumbles. "Oh, Sorry bud" Chad said while patting him on the back with another egg on him. Jay was miserable and was having both a mental attack and allergic reaction. He went to the closest place where he could calm down, the park, back in Stiix he would always go to there Nature Park as being around nature always calmed him down whenever he had a mental breakdown. After washing off the egg and using his EpiPen, which isn't ideal for Shadowbane creatures as the needle doesn't really pierce the skin so he had to use an EpiPen intrusted by his mother and invented by Inventor Cornelius McStone who's actually a Shadowbane himself. After strolling through the park for a bit to calm down, he bumped into Harumi by accident. "Hey, watch where you're going" Harumi said, but then she looked up and noticed Jay, "Sorry, Jay I didn't notice that it was you, anyways what are you doing here" Harumi said. "Uhm, just thought I could calm down a bit, your ex-boyfriend Chad pulled a prank on me, by dropping a bucket of eggs over me" Jay said. "Oh, well don't mind him it was just a harmless prank" Harumi said, "Yeah, harmless especially if your allergic to eggs" Jay said. "Oh, yeah that's probably not harmless then, but wait, Uhm how'd you know about me and Chad, did Nya tell you" Harumi scolded. "Uhm, no, he actually mentioned you quite sometimes in History, so I kind of thought you guys knew each other" Jay said. "It's fine, well see ya at school tomorrow" Harumi said as she ran off, Jay chuckles as he goes on his way home.
"Jay, what happened that took you so long to get here to" Lisbeth said as Jay arrived at the door, "Sorry,it just took longer to get here then expected" Hoping to try to keep the prank out, but his mother would've found out anyways as his mask can only do so much. "Actually, some kids at school pulled a prank on me, that involved eggs" Jay explained, "What kind of kids would do that, they should know better" Lisbeth said. "Mom, stop babying him he can handle himself" Meryl snarled, "Your right Meryl, but it's hard for your brother right now" Lisbeth said. "Alright, whatever" Meryl said as she went to her room. "So Jay, are you sure your alright, did you use the EpiPen" Lisbeth said, "Yes, and yes" Jay said, "Did you go anywhere specific to wash all the egg off" She continued. "Yes" Jay said, he hates when she did this, "So why'd it take along time to get here both those things are very fast things to do so the fact it took you a half hour worries me-" Lisbeth was saying, but at this point Jay was already on the edge "MOM, Stop treating me like a child okay, I'm fine alright" Jay cried. "Honey, I'm just trying to help you" Lisbeth said a bit shaken as Jay wasn't one for loud. "I know, it's just complicated okay, I'm going to go upstairs okay" Jay said walking out the kitchen, leaving Lisbeth in the kitchen with a picture in her hand.
Jay went into his room and slammed the door quietly, then plopped down on his floor with his hands in his eyes crying, He felt awful about what he did to his mother, but at the same time she needed to give him space. As Jay looked around he noticed his Journal he had to write down whenever he was having a 'breakdown experience' as his mother called it. A black leather journal with a Blue Lightning bolt on the cover, he flipped the book to the first empty page and started writing.
