Four Years Ago

The peaceful morning quiet was shattered as an orange blur burst out of the Hokage tower, shouting and laughing as it made its way down the street. Naruto was halfway across the Leaf Village when he skidded to a stop, a huge grin plastered on his face.

The old man had just told him he was being enrolled into the shinobi academy. Just remembering his words had the child vibrating with energy. His eyes were wet with happy tears. He HAD to celebrate and he knew just the place.

Naruto quickly turned right and entered his favorite place in the village, Ichiraku Ramen! "Old man! Five-No TEN bowls of miso ramen!"

Said chef stepped out from behind his counter with an apologetic look on his wrinkled face. "Sorry Naruto, we're closed for the day. Ayame is sick at home, gotta take care of my family first. Come back tomorrow and I'll let you eat for free."

Teuchi said with a warm smile, ruffling the boy's hair good naturedly. Naruto frowned in confusion, "I always eat for free."

The ramen chef laughed boisterously, "See you tomorrow, Naruto."

The man finished closing and left for home. Leaving the young boy to wonder where he would go to celebrate.

Naruto was disappointed his favorite place was closed, but his mood couldn't be brought down! Naruto grinned once more when he remembered he had gotten instant ramen for his home. He could still celebrate!

He began running towards the red light district of Konoha, where his apartment was located. As he got closer to home he noticed that Hinata hadn't stopped following him like she usually does when he gets to the rougher part of Konoha. He had noticed her trailing him ever since he saved her from a group of bullies. She must have slipped past her guide again. Naruto shook his head, for a Hyuuga that guy sure did lose track of Hinata a lot.

Naruto stopped running and quickly turned around in the direction he knew she was hiding. When the Hyuuga heiress ducked behind a building, the boy smiled devilishly and disappeared in an alley, sneaking his way around the building and coming up behind the young girl who was busy trying to locate her missing quarry.

"Where'd he go?" He whispered into her ear. To his absolute joy she almost answered the question before her brain caught up with her mouth and she let out a squeak as her face became tomato red. She began stumbling over an explanation before Naruto put a finger to her lips. This worsened her condition noticeably.

"Hinata, while I enjoy your company I can't let you go any further. I live in a rough neighborhood. Definitely no place for a princess. You can follow me more tomorrow." The young boy said with an innocent smile before giving the white eyed girl a pat on the head. He got up and continued his way down the street, leaving behind a dazed girl on the verge of fainting.

With every step closer to home his stomach growled loudly, he could almost taste the ramen! He rushed up the stairs of his building all the way to his front door. So excited was he that he failed to notice that his front door was already unlocked.

As he closed his door he heard the rustling of fabric. Turning to investigate the disturbance, Naruto was suddenly on the floor. The back of his head throbbing in agonizing pain. The boy's vision swam as he held his aching skull. His confusion turned to horror when he saw three masked strangers standing above him.

"I lost my wife nine years ago. Her killer is inside your gut. Since I can't kill it, you'll have to do." One of the men said, venom dripping from each word. With their faces covered, Naruto wasn't sure which of them had spoken.

"I wonder if the demon can feel his pain?" Another voice chimed in.

"There's no way to be sure, better to be safe than sorry." With that said the three of them moved towards Naruto, weapons in gloved hands. The blonde had tears streaming down his whiskered cheeks. He tried to crawl away, whimpering in fear.

It felt like an eternity. Though it could have just been minutes he wasn't sure. All he knew was pain.

And then blissful darkness. The peace didn't last however, when the nightmare began.

The building he was in was destroyed, a smoking crumbling ruin. At the epicenter of the destruction was a monster, with four tails. Its skin was red and pulsed angrily. Its eyes were white and soulless. At its feet were three bloody smears, boiling from the heat emanating from the creature.

Naruto tried to scream for help, but no sound left his lips. The monster ignored him, jumping from the ruin into the streets of Konoha. The blonde hadn't moved but was somehow seeing everything the beast did.

The frightened child watched helplessly as villagers ran for their lives. Men, women, young and old. The beast cared not. Buildings were destroyed at random by energy blasts from its mouth. Naruto couldn't look away, forced to memorize every face.

A young woman was bisected by one of the monster's tails. She had long beautiful brown hair that covered the look of permanent horror on her face.

A child and his parents were vaporized by a beam of energy. The boy was holding a stuffed animal when he turned to dust.

A brave chunin rushed the monster, kunai in hand only to be grabbed by the throat by a clawed hand. With his last breath he offered a prayer to the Kami. Then the angry chakra melted flesh and bone until gravity itself decapitated him.

By all the Kami in Heaven why couldn't he look away?!

After a few minutes of ceaseless slaughter, more shinobi had arrived. Led by a man with white spiky hair and two red stripes going from his eyes to his chin. He was shouting orders to the other ninja, though Naruto couldn't hear what he was saying. He couldn't hear much of anything. All sound was muffled, drowned out by constant ringing.

Naruto could see that the beast had tensed when it saw the ninja leader. Its body coiled like a tiger about to pounce. The blonde child tried to shout a warning, but once more his voice wasn't heard. The monster charged with speed greater than most ninja, surprising the gathered force in front of it. The leader saw the beast coming and prepared to dodge.

The monster responded with an energy blast that caught the ninja off guard, causing an opening just large enough for the beast to wound or kill their leader. Yet as its claws descended into flesh, it was not the white haired leader, but a Jonin woman. She grinned ferally at Naruto, holding his arm in place within her intestines. Blood poured from her mouth and her eyes were fading fast but she had done her duty.

Naruto looked down in horror at HIS arm. HIS arm that impaled the woman. His claws that had slain the innocent. His chakra that had destroyed the lives of so many. He released a cry of anguish that translated to a roar of hatred from his terrible maw.

The last thing he saw before his chakra was sealed away and darkness claimed him once more was the sad face of the white haired man.

XXXXXX Present

Naruto did his best to reign in his anger. Breathing deeply, and clearing his mind. When the rage was calmed he rose from his spot on the dusty floor of the old Chapel, and made his way outside.

Whatever serenity he managed to accomplish was put to the test when he saw Elizabeth talking to HIS friends.

The shinobi paused at the doorway. His friends? Did he truly believe that, or was this the delusions of a young boy starved from positive attention. He shook his head, a dilemma for a later date. What he did know was that Beth knew more than she let on.

Naruto scowled, he hated being manipulated. He continued his walk towards the group, intent on making Beth spill her guts. Figuratively or literally he hadn't decided yet.

They turned towards him as he got closer. Naruto slowed his approach when he noticed the concerned look on Erlok's face.

"Ya sure dis be a good idea, mon?" He asked, worry tinged his words.

"What?" The whiskered blonde replied with a raised eyebrow.

Beth chimed in before the troll or orc could continue, "I was just telling them of your desire to see Stormwind before we go to Gilneas. It would help with your teachings after all."

There was a glint of something in her eyes. Behind her pleasant smile she was beseeching him to play along. For a moment Naruto desired to deny her claim, and get his answers now. But instinct held him back.

The ANBU narrowed his eyes slightly before nodding along.

"You know we can't go with you right?" Grug spoke up, his arms crossed in disapproval.

Beth pulled the map from her travel bag, beckoning the two ex-Horde to have a look. "If you follow this road through Westfall you should avoid most of the farms and towns. Once you get to Longshore just head north until you reach an abandoned murloc village." She marked the route and gave the map to Erlok.

"We'll meet you there a day after you arrive. No later." She said pleasantly. The troll and orc still didn't look convinced but a single nod from Naruto moved them along.

With their companion heading west, Naruto and Beth began their journey North, to Elwynn Forest.

As their companions disappeared Beth leaned forward and whispered in his ear, "All will be revealed soon. Patience my young friend."

While her words answered his unspoken question her slithery tone did little to calm his nerves.
