Rogue leaned against the cold surface of the kitchen counter, her nerves hummed with a restless energy. She stared blankly at a cup of lukewarm coffee, trying to force herself to take a sip. The X-Men mansion was unusually quiet, with each member seemingly preoccupied with their own thoughts.
"Hey, Rogue." A cheerful voice interrupted her contemplative mood. She looked up to see Kitty Pryde, her eyes bright with curiosity. "Is everything alright?
You've seemed pretty on edge since yesterday," Kitty asked, her voice soft with genuine concern.
Rogue let out a weary sigh, her fingers tapping nervously against the cool countertop. "I honestly don't know, Kitty. It's just... complicated," she confessed, biting her lower lip.
Kitty's curiosity was piqued. With a mischievous twinkle in her eyes, she asked, "Did something happen between you and Gambit again? You know, every time you two have one of your little romantic encounters, Wolverine can sniff him out a mile away. I swear he's got a sixth sense when it comes to either of you."
Rogue couldn't help but laugh, her cheeks flushing with a mix of emotions: guilt, amusement, and longing. "Something like that," she admitted. "It's just hard, you know? Keeping our secret romance on the down low,'' Rogue continued while glancing around the kitchen to ensure no one else was nearby. "I wouldn't want to risk putting the X-Men in danger. And I don't exactly see eye to eye with Mystique or the Brotherhood for that matter. And,'' she paused, her voice barely audible, "the thought of hurting the ones I love with my powers has held me back for a long time."
Kitty safely wrapped her arm around Rogue's shoulder sympathetically. "I get it.
"But I'm still waiting on details of you and him remember I did see what All was going on there " Kitty teased, arched eyebrow as she poked fun at Rogue's guilty silence. "What made you two hit it off again?"
Rogue blushed, and playfully shoved Kitty as a response. "Fine, you're right - hypothetically speaking, let's say something happened, although I can neither confirm nor deny." Her tone was aloof, but the sparkle in her eyes gave her away, entertaining the possibility of a clandestine affair with Gambit.
"Okay, okay Kitty, fine, you win," Rogue laughed, conceding in her playful banter with Kitty. "But this stays just between us, alright?"
Kitty nodded, casting Rogue a reassuring grin. "Of course. A girl's got to have some secrets, after all," she replied cryptically.
As the door to the kitchen swung open, Kitty quickly let go of Rogue and began rifling through a cabinet, searching for some hidden snack. Meanwhile, Rogue's gaze wandered to the entrance, and her breath caught at the sight of Wolverine.
His gruff expression communicated a bitter knowledge of her late-night rendezvous.
"Hey stripes can we need you in Professor office asap" Wolverine called out in that gravelly tone everyone knew all too well. With a subtle nod in his direction, Rogue acknowledged his message and moved towards the exit, casting Kitty a fleeting glance.
The five-foot-two, young woman rolled her eyes playfully before replying, "Guess that's my cue to leave."
Rogue carried the hushed conversation on the tips of her toes as she moved silently along the partially shadowed hallway, preparing herself for the inevitable talk with Professor Xavier.
Wolverine's strong presence followed her, and the weight of his awareness felt like a palpable entity in the narrow space.
Entering the office, Rogue met Professor Xavier's gaze; a mixture of compassion and disapproval reflected from the depths of his shimmering blue eyes.
"Rogue, my dear," he began, zeroing in on her unease. "May I have a word?" he asked, gesturing towards the nearby plush chair.
She settled into the seat, and her voice trembled as she finally acquiesced.
She looked over and saw Jean sitting in the corner looking nervous. While Logan just stood.
quietly at the door, an intense silence loomed over the three of them. The tension thickened, creating an invisible wall in the room. Finally, Professor Xavier broke the silence.
"Rogue it has come to my attention you have been sneaking out at night that is against the rules here at X-Men and putting everyone in danger including your own self "
Rogue shifted in her seat, her heart hammering away like a drum, her nerves stretched taut. She was on edge, terrified of the consequences that might befall her after her little late-night secret adventure with Gambit had been discovered.
"Professor Xavier, I can explain," she said weakly.
Jean Grey looked on sympathetically from her corner while Logan seemed stoically silent.
"It was just a misunderstanding...
"I swear I meant to be back before curfew. It's just... sometimes the energy builds up and I need to..." Her voice trailed off, as though searching for the right words. "Let off some steam," she concluded, looking anywhere but directly into either Logan or Professor Xavier's eyes.
Jean broke her silence, rising from her corner perch, "Rogue, Honey, we understand."
Jean trying to cover for her. "But professor the new mutants sneak out all the time remember when they took the jeep out for a joyride" she reminded Professor Xavier, hoping it might loosen the reins on her friend.
"That was a misjudgment and they have paid their dues and furthermore they aren't putting themselves in danger" Logan suddenly said in his gravelly voice, makeshift accusations simmering beneath the surface.
Professor Xavier raised a hand, a gentle gesture meant to settle the room.
"Logan, I understand your concern, but we are well aware of all misjudgments here."
"But there more to this story isn't there Rogue "
You kept Jean up alot at night with thoughts and I could feel them to you want to talk about them?" Professor said , his voice softening. Jean shuffled her feet, her gaze avoiding Rogue, whose heart sank. She had hoped Jean wouldn't press the matter, but the young woman was determined.
Just as Rogue struggled to find the right words, a vacuum of silence filling the air, Kitty burst into the room.
"Hey, breaking news! The Brotherhood attacking, we'll more like demanding we come now or trouble will happen" Kitty blurted out, interrupting the heavy tension within the room.
In an instant, Rogue, Logan, Xavier, and Jean transformed from a space of private concerns to a defensive force, vigilant and unified.
"Get cyclops, nightcrawler ,and storm as well I have a feeling this is a trap. We'll leave beast here with the new mutants " Professor said
, already a step ahead as Logan nodded, storming off to gather their A-team.
Rogue's heart raced at the mention of the Brotherhood, and she didn't know if it had anything to do with her secret romance weaknesses or the fact that she was terrified of the impending clash.
"Rogue." Jean caught her attention, expelling a deep breath as if on the cusp of a revelation. "I know we aren't always on the same page but if you need me just tell me, and I'm sorry I wasn't trying to listen it's just my powers I promise "
Her voice trembled as she tried to ease the brewing storm.
Rogue gave her a grateful look, a small nod in her direction.
Professor Xavier cleared his throat, capturing their attention. "Ladies, we must go now "
Once they all arrived at the alley every thing seems off the Brotherhood was just standing there. Why ?" Rogue questioned, a curious frown etched on her features.
Scott interrupted her thoughts "Hey where Pyro and Gambit they are usually here for a big fight"? He said with a hint of suspicion.
Professor Xavier frowned, focusing more intently on the disquieting scene unfolding in front of them. Without answering Scott's question, he directed his senses outward as Cyclops and Storm readied themselves, watching over their makeshift family with a hawk-eyed gaze that betrayed their latent uncertainty.
Wolverine yells at the Brotherhood "Hey bub, why are we here you want a fight or what!"
His stern voice echoed through the alley, carrying an energy that didn't bode well for whatever lay beyond their initial confusion. As they antagonized each other, no apparent signs of provocation arose. No punches were thrown, no daggers hurled. Merely stillness.
Then, out of nowhere, a massive figure appeared atop one of the buildings surrounding their standoff. Magneto, the titanium-clad leader of the Brotherhood, descended slowly.
Lance aka avalanche said " We were told to call you here Mystique orders ."
Magneto landed with a resounding thud, a metal grating against the asphalt beneath him, and his piercing gaze swept across the assembled X-Men. "You may wonder why I have summoned you here today," Magneto announced.
Magneto's deep voice reverberated across the alley walls as he turned to look at each of the X-Men with a stern expression. "The Brotherhood, as you know us, is lacking and I Magneto need a strong team that will do all my demands, So good bye Brotherhood you'll on your own, I give you my acolytes".
As if on cue, the shadows around them came alive. A group of new mutants emerged from the darkness, each whom Rogue immediately recognized as formidable figures from her past and Magneto's. With their revelation, the pulse of the electrically charged atmosphere amplified a thousand-fold. A torrent of unanswered questions surged, her mind barely able to contain them.
Magneto glanced at the assemblage of his former Brotherhood, his eyes hardening as he addressed his X-Men adversaries. " You all remember Gambit and Pyro don't you. "Magneto declared with a sharp tone.
Rogue's heart skipped a beat, her breath hitching at the sound of Gambit's name. She remained unnaturally silent, her knuckles whitening as she clenched the fabric of her uniform anxiously.
Magneto continued, "Thanks to them and their disloyal tendencies, they have defected from the Brotherhood and joined my cause as the Acolytes – Those worthy of serving and expanding my vision for our kin.
The whole xmen were silent at what was happening. The Brotherhood's are the enemy but they were easy to fight off Gmbit and Pyro were thr only real problem and they mostly did private missions than battle.
But now the aceolytes has gain two new powerful members and how did they get them . Rogue was sure there was something more to the story.
Magneto turned back to face his two former soldiers. "Greet the X-Men, Gambit and Pyro."
Pyro let out a crazy laugh while making a fire dragon and Gambit eyes started to glow as he charged a card.
"Now where are my manners let me induced you to our newest member " Magneto said. As a 6 foot tall tin man approached the team. The X-Men had never seen him before.
He stood there with a slight smirk on his metallic face, his body completely covered in metal
"Meet my newest recruit," Magneto boasted towards the X-Men, "Colossus"
Colossus stepped forward and looked at the X-Men, taking them in with a single swift glance. He crossed his arms over his chest and his muscles flexed under his metal skin.
Rogue was nervous, unsure of what this meant for them, their mission, but more importantly, her heart was racing thinking about Gambit and his allegiance to Magneto's forces.
"And I saved the best for last had to some real hard digging to find him but after a prison break I finally got him " Magneto smirked
and called out.
"Meet our new ally, Sabretooth."
Rogue's heart plummeted. Sabretooth lurched forward, his ruthless grin and vicious eyes made their way to meet her petrified gaze. Her pulse quickened as she prepared for a fight or flight instinct, which had, unfortunately, never failed her in these situations. She steeled herself, waiting for the first strike, but the attack didn't arrive.
"Why are we here Magento " Cyclops yelled
While Storm prepared an electric blast, crackling quietly in her hand.
Magneto raised an eyebrow, looking slightly amused at their anxiety.
"To show you who's in charged" With that the Acolytes went into attack mode.
A blinding flash of light enveloped the alley, followed by an array of energy blasts exploding in every direction. Shadows danced frantically as the figures of the X-Men and the Acolytes began their inter-team fight, filling the humid air with the sharp scent of ozone. Magneto satisfied that his plan went accordingly.
As the battle raged, Rogue remained strangely detached. She veered towards the nearby buildings, trying to search the area for a sign of Gambit.
But got attacked by Sabertooth instead.
She fought fiercely but he was a harder opponent than she expected. The two continued wrestling and biting at each other, the crunch, screams and hitting filled the area.
Rogue struggled against his violent attacks, refusing to give in or back down despite his formidable strength. It was the most intense combat she had ever experienced, pounding at all her senses and triggering adrenaline surges, which made her skin crawl.
Wolverine heard her cry and ran to her and started attack him with all the strength he could.
Sabretooth was a brutal foe, and Wolverine was struggling to hold him off but still, he tried to protect Rogue. Sabretooth snarled with anger, hurtling Wolverine against the rubble and debris.
Rogue sat up, pushing Sabretooth off her, scanning the surrounding area for any hint of Gambit.
Determined, she launched herself off the ground, pain coursing through her limbs that had taken a brutal beating.
The battle was crazy Xmen attacking Acolytes then the Brotherhood know one new at this point who was good or bad.
Jean quick on her feet almost immediately released her telekinetic powers, creating a protective bubble around them.
The sounds of metal clanging against metal, fists pounding furiously into flesh, and the almost rhythmic *thwack!* of people jumping and tumbling through the air rang out. Sparks flew and debris littered the once clean alleyway, an explosion of chaos and conflict, which played out like a carefully choreographed dance.
Colossus was taking everyone of Cyclops blast like it was nothing. The Xmen knew they were in big trouble. The Brotherhood quickly left as soon as the saw all the Acolytes targeting the Xmen.
Now only Xmen were left.
With the Brotherhood's sudden departure, there were fewer targets to contend with. However, the Acolytes proved themselves formidable opponents. It was becoming increasingly obvious that they would not make it out of this pitched battle unscathed. As they exchanged blows with their adversaries, the X-Men fought with a fervor that was both admirable and bone-chilling.
Finally, Rogue spotted Gambit. They just looked at each other lost in thought.
In the background, the battle between the Acolytes and X-Men raged on, but their concentration faltered. Gambit was different - softer and vulnerable in the midst of the organized mayhem. His eyes flickered, unable to settle, while Rogue searched for the man she knew lurked beneath his dissembling facade.
As Rogue prepared to dash forward through the hailstorm of TK projectiles and metallic clashes, she heard Magento speak "Finish her Gambit "
Amidst the chaos and violence, Rogue and Gambit stared intensely at one another across the makeshift battlefield. Telepathic screams and energy blasts blurred the background as their moment of truth hung in the balance.
Rogue was surprised of the attack from Gambit. She knew Remy would never hurt her, but Gambit was the one in charge right now.
All the memories of their exciting trysts, heated kisses, and the exhilarating surge of power transferred during their intimate moments were overpowered by the immediacy of the situation.
"Rogue, please understand, I didn't want it to come to this. " he said to her softly.
The sincerity in his voice spilled through her mutant power and swept over her like a caress. "I never wanted to harm you."
Rogue was speechless, heartbroken, and elated all at once. How could this be? How could Gambit embody so many facets, one moment projecting the aliases of a charismatic criminal, and the next an endearing lover?
The anguish in Gambit's eyes pierced through her defenses.
"Remy, I-" Rogue attempted to speak but was only greeted by the charge in his aura. It signaled that he was on the cusp of unleashing a formidable force that could debilitate her for years.
The raw fear on her face must have triggered something in Gambit, initiating the familiar shadow of love and desire that lurked beneath the surface. She closed her eyes and waited for the charge, for the ultimate retaliation that would bring her the freedom she craved.
But instead of a hot flush of explosive energy, she felt Gambit's hand gently seize her wrist, his thumb tenderly brushing the back of her hand. Her eyes flung open, mirroring her surprise. They stood in a vacuum of combat, as if time itself seemed to halt to grant them this one singular moment. It was then when the resolve crumbled from his eyes and the reality set it, Gambit realized his allegiance had been tested and torn by the love of one singular soul, Rogue.
Rogue didn't want to but she started to attack him. It was a fight she never imagined she would have. She lashed out and landed a hard punch, but he countered with one of his own, which rattled her bones. Her instincts for survival took over and blood started to pump through her veins at a relentless pace. Her heart echoed in her ears as she felt her hair whip about in the wind. Her mutant abilities were demanding to be set free, and she could not resist any longer.
She took off her glove from left hand ready to take him. But Gambit grab her hand quick.
"I'm sorry Anna."
With that he charged a playing card in her hand his eyes filled with regret, and released it in her direction. Rogue couldn't move, bound by a mix of conflicting emotions.
Everything went white. Flames engulfed them as time seemed to slip and shift. When Rogue finally opened her eyes, she was in the blackbird.
"Child are you alright one of Gambit card hit a gas tank causing a explosion" Storm said anxiously.
As Rogue gathered her wits, she managed a croaked response. "Gambit... I... I had to fight " Rogue stammered, even trying to justify herself in the shock of the catastrophic ending between them. Guilt was now added to her ever-growing mixture of emotions.
It all seemed like a cruel trick of fate, them residing on opposite sides after having discovered their wild passions.
But than reality hit she remember what he said "I'm sorry Anna". Anna how did he know her real name she never told him that!.
She ran a trembling hand through her hair. Was there more to it than what she knew? She had never shared her true name, how could he have known? It was yet another mystery to unravel in the ever-deepening enigma of her complicated relationship with Gambit. She felt a nagging presence then turned her head to see Jean. The redhead's gaze was filled with concern and curiosity as she carefully evaluated Rogue's fragile state.
A tangle of emotions churned in Rogue's stomach, twisting her heart into an excruciating pretzel.
Rogue started freaking out , trying to process everything that happen , fear and anxiety to over. The Xmen watching her to try to calm her down.
They weren't used to seeing Rogue in such a state, but the events of the day had surely taken a toll on her. The vacuum of silence in the Blackbird grew, as everyone hesitated to speak, knowing that the coming hours would be crucial to both Rogue's mental stability and the team's future.
Storm's strong voice broke the barrier. "Rogue, my dear, please tell us exactly what happened. Do not leave a single detail behind.
" He .. he..he ... called me by my name . She said crying. Xmen all stood there confused. Scott spoke up "What do you mean?"
Rogue hiccupped before continuing, her voice trembling. "I never told anyone my real name, but yet he knew it"
Jean's eyebrows arched. "That's odd. Maybe he has been keeping tabs on you behind the scenes, and somehow discovered your name?"
Wolverine could tell this was hurting her "That's enough for now let's get back to mansion we all get checked out and have a meeting when everyone is clear"
On the flight back to the mansion, a whirlwind of questions, suspicions, and fears sent Rogue's anxiety skyrocketing.
The Blackbird's gentle hum did little to soothe her weary mind. Instead, the memories of Gambit's electric touch and genuine laughter invaded her senses, reminding her of a simpler, happier time.
At the X-Men mansion, they all quickly dispersed to their quarters, but sleep eluded Rogue. Her thoughts were a maelstrom of regret, sorrow, confusion, and perhaps, dare she acknowledge it, hushed whispers of love. Their hidden relationship had now become a double-edged sword.
Rogue found herself oscillating between the urge to confide in her X-Men family and holding onto the one secret she had guarded fiercely for years. Protecting this secret meant defending Gambit's cover, safeguarding him from the ire of the X-Men team that stubbornly believed they knew what was best for all mutant-kind. The powerful connection with Gambit gave her strength, even as she struggled to reconcile with the new reality of their predicament.
As she played out the day's events, trying to understand the cryptic meaning of his words and actions, lingering doubts wove themselves into her thoughts. With every tick of the clock, tears falling down her cheeks.
She still couldn't understand why , the thought of him knowing her real name gave her so much anxiety. "How did he know that !"
Her turmoil amplified by a throbbing silence in the room. Rogue thought to herself.
How could Gambit - her secret love, her forbidden addiction - know Anna? She had never shared her deepest secret with another soul, but the faint glimmer in his emerald-green eyes hinted at a hidden knowledge. She couldn't comprehend the gravity of it. While the X-Men team believed they were now enemies, Rogue couldn't extinguish the embers of an affection that had stoked the depths of her.
An unspoken question still hung in the air, and both her and Gambit remained cocooned within a labyrinthine riddle that begged numerous answers. What had gone on behind the scenes, and where would the ripples of their actions lead them?
The minutes ticked by as she lay immobilized, her temples throbbing with tension.
