In the sleek, ultra-modern building that served as the Acolytes' makeshift hideout, the team gathered in the expansive common area. A floor-to-ceiling window offered a panoramic view of the sprawling city below, its twinkling lights a stark contrast to the tense atmosphere that lingered within the room.
Magneto expression was one of keen scrutiny as she regarded her newfound Acolytes, he gaze lingering on Gambit, Pyro, and Colossus. He could careless what Sabretooth does as long as comes when he calls.
"I trust you all are committed to our cause?" he challenged, a note of finality in her voice.
The trio nodded, albeit a bit hesitantly, "Of course, we've always been loyal to our cause of mutant rights," Pyro declared with resolute defiance.
Gambit spoke next, focusing his charismatic Cajun charm on Magneto. "It's not about loyalty. " Magneto said. "It's about survival.
"It's about making sure that our kind endures and blossoms, even if it means taking drastic measures and sacrificing our own moral conduct. It's about building a world where mutants won't have to cower in fear or be overshadowed by the so-called 'normal' anymore." His voice had an intense, magnetic pull that left his audience both horrified and captivated.
Gambit nodded in agreement, his earlier hesitance vanishing beneath Magneto's intense gaze.
"Good," Magneto approved as she paced across the room with predatory grace. Her cape billowed behind her - she wore dominance like an ornate crown atop her proud head.
"Now that we understand each other, I have some matters that need tending to. Remember, you belong to this cause."
"Some of you have done so willingly, but some of you have found yourselves here because of my leverage over you," Magneto continued, her voice laced with the air of a seasoned tactician. My power serves as a sword and shield, but it's only by demonstrating our unity here, today, that we will achieve victory and usher in a brave new world."
Pyro nonchalantly threw a coin in the air, using his fire mutation to suspend it between his fingers while trying to balance the deliberately painful reminder of what Magneto had over him.
Gambit tossed another card against the wall that he'd loaded with kinetic energy, and with a flick of his wrist, he made it explode in a blinding burst of light, leaving a small crater where it landed.
Colossus-tall, strong, and steadfast-remained silent, occasionally casting troubled looks toward the bag resting on a table nearby. His very soul was contained within, tortured for escape yet retained through his unbreakable loyalty to his team and the cause.
To challenge Magneto would mean betrayal and certain death, placing his Russian family at risk. Perhaps this would be their end, or possibly their finest hour – the effect their complex relationship with the Acolytes could never truly be predicted.
Magneto left the room, leaving them with a heavy dose of reality. The vast array of possibilities that awaited them on the horizon was undeniably fraught with danger as well as temptation.
Pyro leaned back into one of the sleek, minimalistic sofas, his calm demeanor slipping for the briefest of moments. "I still can't fathom how Magneto found me in Australia when I left the Brotherhood," he sighed wearily.
Colossus remained silent, carefully examining the dripping sweat lodged in the folds of his enormous hands – a grim reminder of the weight he bore.
"What did you find so enticing about his speech, Gambit?" Colossus finally inquired in his thick Russian accent as he broke the brooding silence that had settled after Magneto's departure.
"I'm confused what he truly wants from us" Gambit said , choking on his words, sweat dripping from his brow. Each man cocooned himself in the stillness of his thoughts, silently harboring a myriad of fears, regrets, and hopes.
Gambit continued, "Pyro, you not the only one curious about Magneto ways, he pick us up easily and knows all our secrets what he wants from us"
"Come on guys let talk."
"Not like Magneto can hear us crazy plans, he's probably plotting five steps ahead of us anyways." Pyro chuckled nervously.
Colossus sighed deeply, his massive shoulders sagging under the weight of his worries. Though his exterior was forged from unyielding steel, hidden beneath lay a vulnerable Russian spirit. "I am uncertain," he murmured, barely above a whisper. "Something does not sit well with me."
Gambit's green eyes grew distant, the severity of his own thoughts threatening to smother him.
"Hey Colossus what's your story, I've never seen you around here." Gambit asked with curiosity.
"My story is not much to tell, comrade," Colossus responded, his voice heavy with weariness. "I was born and raised in a small, rural village in Russia. Life was simple and uncomplicated, until the day my powers manifested. It was not long before I was taken away to join the ranks of the X-Men."
Gambit shifted in his seat, leaning slightly toward Colossus. "And what brought you from X-Men to here?" he asked with genuine interest.
His Cajun accent drifted through the room, painting a vivid picture of his enchanting roots.
Colossus took a deep breath, steadying himself against the turmoil brewing inside his chest. " My little sister is very sick , my family we don't have alot and Magneto promised me he could help, but " Colossus choked on his words, tears brimming his eyes.
"You don't have to answer if you don't want to" Gambit replied empathetically.
"No Gambit, I trust you . It's my family I worry about, they don't conquer the world like Magneto's forces, they just care for each other. I couldn't live with myself if something happens to them," Colossus' confession spilled forth as unshed tears shimmered in the metallic surface of his eyes.
As he hesitated, Gambit placed an understanding hand on Colossus' shoulder. "We in the same boat, amigo. The road we've chosen is dangerous, but we settled on it for good reason."
Colossus nodded silently, the thought of seeing his sister again staring him down.
"Piotr." Colossus said.
"What?" Gambit and Pyro said.
"My name is Piotr." Colossus said again, quietly. "Back in Russia, that's how my friends and family called me."
An unusual intensity echoed in Colossus' voice, the sentiment palpable and peculiarly human.
Piotr's metallic hand curled into a fist. "If I could do it all over, I wouldn't have left Russia. My family, my people, they need me now more than ever." Pyro's voice faltered as if recalling a faded memory, traces of desperation lingering behind his fiery gaze. Gambit squeezed Piotr's shoulder in a brotherly gesture, his expression a blend of sorrow and understanding. "Don't we all, mon ami. Don't we all."
"Why are you here Gambit" Piotr said. "It's Remy mon ami " Gambit sighs, resting his head against the windowpane. " For my chere . He told me he would do awful things to her, but I'm the one who fought her today in battle." Gambit's voice trailed off, laden with regret. His eyes were glued to the vibrant cityscape, and with parted lips, he exhaled a deep breath that fogged the cool glass before him.
"She the love of my life I've never met a more amazing woman." Remy whispered under his breath, his heart aching at the thought of Rogue.
"Tell us more about Rogue, mate Pyro interjected curiously.
Gambit hesitated, but soon the words poured out of him. "She's beautiful in every way, she taught me how to love myself like no one has before. She treats me like a person not a problem. But I thought I could save her , but instead I ended up destroying her . He said starting to cry.
"What did you do to Rogue?" Pyro asked, shifting uncomfortably in his seat.
Gambit hesitated. "I-I had to betray her," he stammered. "Magneto found me and said he wanted to recruit me into his new Acolytes I refused, but then he said he'd hurt Rogue if I didn't help him. That he would do things thing to her make her his. I couldn't risk it. I had to protect her. "
Colossus looked at Gambit, his metal face expressionless. "You are in a difficult position, my friend," he said.
"Tell me about it," Gambit replied with a sarcastic tone, wiping away a tear with the back of his hand.
Colossus leaned in, a serious expression settling on his features. "Perhaps you made a mistake in judgment, but that is in the past. Now you must look forward and try to make things right."
"Right?! How am I supposed to do that?" Gambit's voice was filled with frustration. "Everyone hates me.
"I betrayed Rogue, and the X-Men can't trust me anymore not like they did anyway." Remy sighed, propping his elbows on his knees, head in his hands.
Pyro glanced at him, the reflection of flames flickering in his eyes. "They'll come around, mate," he said encouragingly. "You did what you thought was right to protect your girl."
"Right, but at what cost?" Gambit replied, his tone laced with self-doubt. "I've alienated myself from everyone I care about.
"I don't belong anywhere." Gambit's voice had lost its usual playful tone, replaced by a heart-wrenching sadness.
Colossus rested a comforting hand on Gambit's shoulder. "You belong here, " he said. "But you must decide if this is truly where you want to be."
"I just don't know how all be able to make her trust me again , I don't even think I can look at her knowing what I've done." Gambit yelled frustratedly.
"You have to try, man. She loves you." Pyro reassured him, placing a hand on his shoulder.
Gambit shook his head. "It's not that easy. I betrayed her trust, and that's something that's hard to get back." He sighed.
Colossus chimed in, "Perhaps there is a way, but it won't be easy. You will have to prove yourself to her and earn her trust back over time."
Gambit looked up, his eyes filled with determination
"It's been a long day mate how about we all turn in for the night." Pyro suggest.
Gambit nodded in agreement and they all headed to their individual rooms in the modern building. Once Gambit entered his room, he collapsed on the bed, overwhelmed by the thoughts and emotions rushing through his mind. He couldn't stop thinking about Rogue and what he had done. The guilt consumed him, but his love for her was stronger. He couldn't give up on her that easily.
Hours passed and Gambit still lay awake, staring at the ceiling.
Thinking about what Magneto told him. " Have you ever wondered what Rogue name is , what she was called before Rogue.?
"What if I told you that it was Anna Marie."
Gambit sat up abruptly, his mind racing. "Anna Marie? What a beautiful name he thought.
"She never told me her real name," Gambit murmured, deep in thought.
He thought back to all the times they had spent together, the conversations they'd had, the secrets they'd shared. And yet, she had never mentioned her real name. Why?
Gambit knew he had to talk to Rogue, to explain his actions and try to make things right between them. But he also knew that Rogue was hurting, both physically and emotionally, and that she might not be ready to hear him out yet.
He thought back how Magneto need said he would do anything to keep Gambit on his team. And he wasn't afraid to do anything unimaginable to Rogue.
He knew a saying her name would be a complete shock to her but Gambit knew he had to take that risk.
"The time has come Remy. I can no longer stand by and watch you suffer." He told himself while sitting on the edge of his bed.
"I need to see Rogue, to explain what happened and to beg for her forgiveness." He stood up and walked towards the door.
Before he could grab the handle, he heard a knock.
He opened the door to find Colossus standing there, a concerned look on his steel-covered face.
"Remy, I could not help but overhear your conversation with yourself.
"Is everything alright?" Colossus inquired, his deep voice resonating through the corridor.
"No, everything is not alright." Gambit said frustratedly. "I need to see Rogue. I need to tell her the truth about what happened and beg for her forgiveness."
"I understand your plight, but it is not that simple," Colossus said, resting his arm on the door frame. "You betrayed Rogue's trust, and she is hurting."
"I know that, Piotr. But I can't just sit here and do nothing. I have to try." Gambit's voice was full of determination, but Colossus could see the fear and uncertainty in his eyes.
Colossus sighed, "Very well. But you must be careful, and you must be patient. It may take time for Rogue to forgive you, if she ever does."
Gambit nodded, "I understand."
"I'll be careful. I have to at least try." He said with determination.
"Goodnight Remy." Colossus walked out of them room as Gambit started to plan his next move. He knew he had to see Rogue, but the thought of Magneto's threats lingered in his mind. He couldn't bear the thought of Rogue getting hurt. She was the one thing he cared about the most, and he would do anything to protect her.
The modern building was silent at night, save for the occasional hum of the air conditioning system. Gambit crept out of his room and made his way to the X-men's mansion, careful to avoid any security measures.
