Murmurs of confusion swept through the air, hanging onto the morning sunlight that permeated the X-Mansion's grand conference room. The faint scent of lingering burnt ozone was still present from yesterday's chaotic encounter with the Acolytes

Rogue absentmindedly fidgeted with the fraying threads of her uniform. Jean Grey cast her a faintly worried look from across the table. Rogue forced a weary smile that couldn't possibly mask her turbulent insides.

She still couldn't believe what had transpired just yesterday. The lingering aftermath of the Acolytes' battle loomed over her mind like a dark, ominous cloud threatening to burst at any moment.

"You know you can talk to me if something is bothering you, Rogue," Jean offered gently, breaking the silence.

A tense breath escaped Rogue's lips as she glanced around the table at her fellow X-Men, swallowing the growing knot in her throat.

Professor Xavier's voice gently resonated throughout the conference room, wresting the assembly's attention. "Now, I think it's time we discuss what happened with the Acolytes," he said.

A murmur of assent traveled around the table, and Charles dived into the overview of the uncomfortable but necessary debrief. Each team member, in turn, recounted their experiences and observations from the conflict.

"An invasion like this couldn't have just materialized out of thin air," Nightcrawler said.

"Indeed, it seems someone has orchestrated this with a specific objective in mind," Cyclops agreed, adjusting his ruby-quartz visor.

Professor Xavier stepped in to facilitate their discussion. "It is crucial that we analyze the possible motivations of Magneto in assembling this new squad.

We know he has wanted mutant superiority for years, but what does this new development mean for the X-Men?" Charles asked, resting his hands on the polished table.

Rogue remained silent, her fingers twirling the threads of her uniform. She drifted back to when it had just been her and Mystique, the endless fights, and declarations that Rogue was going to leave the Brotherhood. She eventually did, though not without her fair share of difficulties.

Wolverine, who sat beside her, picked up on her distracted demeanor.

"Rogue, you still haven't told us what happened between you and Gambit during the battle," he prompted gently.

Rogue hesitated for a moment, and then shrugged, still playing with the torn threads of her uniform. "We were caught up in fight, and he somethings that all." Rogue whispered her voice trailing off.

Wolverine leaned in with a skeptical eyebrow raise. "So, there's definitely was somethin' goin' on between you two."

Rogue sighed heavily. "Just leave alone you don't know anything about Remy ok." Rogue snapped back.

Wolverine's action-ready posture dissolved slightly, replaced with concerned curiosity as he darted a concerned glance towards Rogue.

The whole room fell. Everyone was confused on the sudden outburst from Rogue. The team stared at her stunned. Jean looked at Wolverine and back to Rogue.

"Rogue, can you clarify what Gambit told you during the chaos? It's important we understand if there's a potentially dangerous situation here," the Professor asked gently, urging his student to speak up.

Multiple gazes bored into Rogue. She felt the heat rise in her cheeks, realizing she couldn't escape the question.

"He didn't expressly tell me much," Rogue was shaking.

Cyclops spoke up " What going on Rogue , your not telling the trust , we need to get to the bottom of this!"

Everyone nodded in agreement, additional concern reflected in each of their gazes.

Storm looked her "Child why are you so scared to talk about Gambit." Her voice was calm, but her concern was evident.

Rogue fidgeted nervously, eyes darting between her teammates. "I just...can't. Not yet," she whispered. The weight of her secret settled over her shoulders like a thick fog, refusing to lift.

Everyone was super concerned for Rogue. "Rogue did he do something to you, did he hurt you?" Professor Xavier asked, concern etched into the lines on his face. He reached his hand out toward Rogue, a silent offer of comfort and courage, inviting her to unburden the emotional turmoil tearing her apart.

"No, professor, it's nothing like that. " Rogue muttered softly, "

Maybe if you let me explore your mind, we can uncover what Gambit whispered to you". Rogue hesitated, casting a concerned glance at the rest of the team. The prospect of exposing her innermost thoughts was daunting.

Rogue stood up quick, "No, you can't do that! Stay out of my mind, I'm sorry OK , I'm so sorry please." She began to cry.

"I just can't handle it, not right now. I couldn't focus on the battle or anyone else around me because I had to deal with what Gambit had told me. He has always had a special place in my heart, even when I tried to distance myself from him.

The team stared at Rogue in shock and concern. Rogue had always guarded herself carefully, allowing no one to get too close.

But when it comes to Gambit, every barrier and shield she had erected came crumbling down. As Rogue choked back her tears, she continued to speak.

"I am sorry. I know I am putting the team in a difficult position. I wanted to tell you about what happened with Gambit, but I was afraid of how you'd react."

Cyclops narrowed his gaze, his brows drawing together in a mixture of frustration and confusion.

"Rogue, we can't ignore what happened. You put yourself and the team at risk because of what he said. It's crucial to understand his intentions, and hopefully find a way to neutralize the danger posed to us. If he has defected to Magneto's side, then there's no telling what kind of intel he's shared regarding our operations and resources," Cyclops sternly declared.

Professor Xavier raised a hand reassuringly. "Cyclops, I understand your concern for the wellbeing of the team, and I share it.

Rogue was beyond mad anger tears running down her face.

Wolverine stepped in to be the voice of reason.

"Calm down, Rogue. You gotta tell us what's going on, or things are just gonna keep getting' worse for all of us," Wolverine growled, trying to defuse the situation.

Kitty wandered over,

"Look, I know this whole Gambit thing is super complicated, but maybe if we get some more information, we can help?" she suggested, giving Rogue a reassuring pat.

"Why don't you tell us exactly what happened and we can work through it together?" Kitty suggested, trying to lighten the mood.

Rogue took a deep breath, "Fine, I'll tell you. But don't say I didn't warn you."

She hesitated, her eyes darting between her teammates. "Gambit and I...we've been sneaking around behind everyone's backs."

"What?!" Several voices exclaimed in unison.

"We've been seeing each other in secret for months now.

It started off innocent enough, but then we couldn't resist each other any longer," Rogue admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.

The room was completely silent. The only sound was Rogue's ragged breathing and the distant hum of the mansion.

"Rogue, this is a serious matter. You know we've always been loyal to the X-Men, and keeping a relationship with an enemy like Gambit is a breach of that trust," Cyclops said sternly, trying to hide his surprise.

"But, Cyclops, it's not like that.

I never meant to betray anyone. I truly love him," Rogue explained, her voice trembling.

"Love?" Storm interjected, her eyes filled with concern for her young teammate. "This is a dangerous path you've chosen, Rogue. Love can blind us, but it can also destroy us."

Rogue looked down, avoiding eye contact with her mentor. "I know, Storm. But I can't help how I feel. And Remy feels the same way."

Wolverine, who had been silent throughout the conversation, finally spoke up.

"So, lemme get this straight," he began, leaning back in his chair. "Yer tellin' us that ya been secretly seein' one of Magneto's men behind our backs?"

Rogue nodded, crying biting her lower lip nervously. "It just sort of happened. We both realized we had feelings for each other, and before we knew it, we were sneaking around, trying to find time to be together." The tension in the room was palpable as Rogue finished her confession. The other X-Men sat in stunned silence, unsure of how to react.

Wolverine broke the silence. "Well, I gotta admit, I didn't see that comin'. But Rogue, you've gotta be careful. You know what kind of man Gambit is."

"I know, Wolverine, but he's not like that anymore. He's changed.

He's different now," Rogue insisted, defend her lover. She raised her head and looked each of her teammates in the eye, willing them to understand.

"Rogue, it's not that simple," Cyclops said, his tone gentle but firm. "Gambit has a history with the Brotherhood of Mutants, and he's still a member of that organization. We can't ignore the potential risks he poses to us."

"I know that, Cyclops, but I also know Remy. He wouldn't do anything to hurt me or the team.

I trust him," Rogue replied adamantly.

"But what if he's just using you for information, Rogue? That's what they do, these Brotherhood types. They'll say or do anything to get what they want. And what they want is to destroy the X-Men," Nightcrawler chimed in, still shaken from the previous day's battle.

"I'm not some delicate flower that needs to be guarded," Rogue countered, determination glinting in her green eyes.

"Rogue, I understand where you're coming from, but we can't just ignore the fact that Gambit is still a member of the Brotherhood of Mutants. We have a duty to protect all mutants, not just those on our team," Professor said , his voice full of compassion. trying to reason with her.

"I know, Professor, but I can't help how I feel about him. And I trust him. I know he wouldn't do anything to put me or the team in danger," Rogue replied, standing firm.

Kitty spoke up "But Rogue he did , why would he choose to attack you in battle, I know you care about deeply but it's just not adding up." Her voice was soft and full of understanding.

Rogue hesitated, "I... I don't know."

Wolverine scoffed, "That's just what he wants you to think. It's all a ploy, Rouge."

Rogue couldn't take it anymore , "STOP! Please, just listen to me! I love Gambit, and he loves me. And I understand the danger of being with someone from the Brotherhood, but I can't help how I feel. Can't you just trust me when I say that I know what I'm doing?" she pleaded, her eyes full of emotion.

The team fell silent.

Despite the emotions in the air, they looked at each other, unsure of what to say next. No one had ever questioned the loyalty of the X-Men, especially like this. They were still co-workers, but Rogue's newly-disclosed romance made things complicated.

Professor Xavier finally broke the silence, "Rogue, I understand that your intentions are pure and that you truly love Gambit. But we cannot ignore the fact that he is still loyal to Magneto, and any relationship between you could put the X-Men in a difficult position."

Wolverine could see the angst in Rogue's eyes, but he also knew that they had to address the situation.

"Rogue, we're not tryin' to hurt ya. We're just concern for your well-being and the team's," he said, trying to soothe the tension.

Rogue nodded, swallowing the lump in her throat. "I know, Wolverine. And I appreciate your concern. But I can't just turn my back on Gambit. I love him, and I believe that he loves me too." Professor Xavier sighed heavily, his eyes filled with concern. "Rogue, I understand that your feelings for Gambit are strong, but you must see that this is a complicated situation. Being in a relationship with him could put the entire team in danger. We can't ignore the fact that he is now a Acolyte, and as such, he has a loyalty to Magneto. We can't be sure that he won't betray us."

Rogue's eyes flashed with anger. "You don't know him like I do.

Remy is different," Rogue protested, her voice full of conviction. "He's not like the other Acolytes. He doesn't agree with their violent methods or their ideology of mutant superiority."

"Even so, Rogue," Storm said, her voice gentle yet firm. "A relationship with an Acolyte is not something we can condone. It goes against everything we stand for as X-Men."

Rogue hung her head, tears of frustration and sadness streaming down her face. She got up and walked out.

"Where's she going?" Wolverine asked, raising an eyebrow at the others.

Rogue couldn't handle it anymore. She had to leave "I can't believe they don't understand. I love Remy, and I know he loves me too." Rogue wiped away fresh tears, her voice filled with pain.

She needed to be alone, to process the whirlwind of emotions coursing through her body. The X-Men and their concerns clashed inside her head, tangled with the thrill of her secret romance.
