Chapter Eight Six

**Obi-Wan's Point of view**

After chasing down Grievous' fleet, we came out of hyperspace suddenly, not wanting to let the Separatist know we arrived. "Cody is Grievous on his ship?" I looked out the viewer, seeing his flag ship hovering behind the other ships, in orbit around the planet.

"Negative General." He responded as lasers starting flying as the fighters, for both sides began the battle. "The computer's sensors are not picking up any organic signals, only droids."

"Very good Cody." I turned to Motley who stood beside me. I'd watched him for the last couple weeks and knew he was a capable commander and Jedi but would he be able to emotionally handle a battle? If I went down after Grievous, someone would have to stay on the Sassy.

The younger Jedi knew exactly what I was thinking. "I can handle it Master Kenobi, do what you have to do."

I saw the confidence in his eyes and nodded. "Alright then, you and Cody will coordinate with Anakin about the battle and I'll take a team down." I glanced around the bridge, calling on several men. "Get your crews together and meet me in the hanger."

"Yes General." They quickly saluted and headed out.

I quickly gave some commands to Motley and Cody before contacting Anakin. "Anakin, we think Grievous isn't on board a ship, I'm going planet side."

I knew he was in one of the fighters circling around. "Do you need us to come with you?"

"No." I told him. "Though, my team will need a clear path down. Cody and Motley are staying on the Sassy, so coordinate battle plans with them."

"Yes Master." Anakin said as I disconnected before turning to my new Padawan and Commander Cody. "Alright gentleman, I'm off and hopefully I'll return with Grievous."

"Yes sir." Their two voices spoke as I headed toward the hanger.

"Alright, Anakin, let's go." I spoke into the headset as we left the Sassy a handful of minutes later.

"Not a problem Master." He spoke with absolute confidence. "Alright, everyone, follow me. This is where the fun begins."

"I'm right behind you Master." Came another voice, young and inexperienced but obviously ready to go. "I bet I can get more than you."

Before I could interject a protest, the two took off, cutting a space through the enemy ships, the rest of the ships following after them.

"Better keep up, Padawan, I'm already up two." Anakin cut back and I just shook my head. What was I going to do with them? However, what they did, worked and I was soon heading into orbit.

"May the Force be with you Master." Anakin said, obviously seeing us heading down. "Let us know if you need help."

"Thank you Anakin, I will." Though I really hoped we wouldn't.

We landed easily enough, though I would think his scanners would have already picked us up. We exited the ship and quickly headed for the cover of a small forest.

"Here, General." One of the men pointed out on a scanner. "That's where they should be."

"Very good. Let's go men."

"Ah Kenobi." I soon heard the nearly computer like voice of the droid general. "I expected you to find me."

"And this time, you won't get away." I couldn't help but sass as I pulled my saber from my belt, igniting it, readying myself for a fight.

"And you will fail once again." With that Grievous and his droids attacked.

I chased after Grievous as we fought while the battle was taking place around us. I was determined to catch him, wanting to put a quicker end to this war, but that was not meant to be as he somehow managed to get the upper hand once again. He ran onboard his small carrier ship and took off, his droids firing shots down at us, sending more than dirt after us. In the process of taking off, he clipped a ship, breaking it into pieces, sending it flying backyards, spinning completely out of control.

Hot on the General's trail, I had little time to adjust, little time to push the debris out of the way. I was only somewhat successful as I avoided one to be slammed into my chest with another. It knocked the air out of me, sending me flying backwards. Despite the pain, I managed to keep my wits together enough to send my body into a roll to avoid any more injury. Once on the ground, I pushed myself up, gasping for breath, everything sent pain flashing across my chest. Knowing at least a couple of my ribs were broken and by the blood soaking my tunics, knew the metal had pierced my chest as well, I crawled behind a crashed fighter, trying to find cover. I managed to make contact with Cody and Motley about regrouping with mine and Anakin's troops before I passed out.

**Anakin's Point of view**

I had been routing out the rest of the droids when a ship came flying out of orbit, heading for open space. I suddenly had a bad feeling about this.

"Master?" I heard Ahsoka's voice grew worried. "That's not one of ours."

"It isn't. " I quickly turned my ship, firing at the other one, knowing General Grievous was once again trying to make a getaway which meant he defeated Obi-Wan.

"Commander Skywalker, General Kenobi has been injured." Cody called over. "Gr…."

"I have him in my sights." I was chasing him quickly but he turned suddenly, avoiding my shots as he vanished into hyperspace. "Let's get the rest of the droids taken care of."

"Yes sir." Cody agreed and added. "Commander Motley is taking some men down with a med unit to retrieve the General."

"Very good Cody." I switched channels. "Alright Rex, let's round these guys up. Ahsoka, let's go."

She, already anticipating my move, started for one of the larger ships. "Already ahead of you."

With Grievous gone, the rest of the battle finished quickly. "Cody, Rex, have we gotten word of Obi-Wan?"

"Commander Motley has gotten control of the droids and planet. The med crew brought back the General. He's injured but not sure how bad."

"Thanks, Cody, we are heading back to the Fearless. Keep me updated."

Since Motley was still planet side, I sent Ahsoka to the Sassy to be there if needed and to help Cody organize the returning troops. I just hoped Obi-Wan would be okay.

**Meagan's Point of view**

I suddenly woke up, pain searing across my chest. My hands flew up, feeling no injury. After all, I was in a shuttle with several troopers on my way back from another mercy mission. I was safe I reminded myself as each breath hurt. "Obi-Wan." He was hurt. Stretching out with the Force, I felt him strongly enough to know he was close by. Taking another deep breath, pushing his pain away, I hopped up, running for the cockpit, intending to go to him, even straight into battle.

Commander Drake turned, quite surprised to see me. "My lady what's wrong?"

"Can you pull up any Intel where the battles are taking place?" Once I saw a list and a map, I would be able to sense where he was.

"Don't worry Lady Kenobi." He said, obviously thinking I was scared about flying through a battle. "We are avoiding them. We'll get…."

"No, you don't understand." I interrupted him, needing to get to my man as soon as I could. "I have to find my husband. He's hurt."

The clones tried to protest, saying it wasn't in our orders, but I outranked them, assuring them I would take the heat. "Now, where is that map?"

Finally doing as I said, they brought it up and I immediately felt where Obi-Wan was. "There." I pointed out a group of ships that was Obi-Wan's fleet. "Plot that course."

"Yes, my lady." Drake redirected the ship toward the fleet.

The Republic ships had pulled back or the Separatists had already left when we arrived. It had been a major battle if the confusion in the hanger bay was any indication. The clones didn't seem to notice me, even in civilian clothes, the skirt I wore, as I wove my way through the men, trying desperately to find my husband. Luckily I had gotten to know the Sassy well and made my way through the hallways toward the lifts.

"Come on, hurry up." I practically chanted as the lift didn't seem to go as fast as I wanted it to. "Finally." The doors slid open on the correct floor and I raced down the corridors. The infirmary should be just a few turns away.

"Hey, where do you think you are going?" A very young Tortuga suddenly stood in front of me, causing me to screech to a stop.

"If you don't mind to step aside, I'm in quite a hurry." I tried to push her aside, wondering what other Jedi Master was onboard, but didn't give it much thought.

"How did you get here?" She stood her ground, much stronger than she looked, hitting a button on her link, calling someone silently. "You're a civilian, you can't be here."

"Out of my way, you little pipsqueak. Obi-Wan is hurt and I need to get to him." This time I managed to push her aside enough to slip by her.

I didn't get far when she came up from behind me, knocking me to the ground. "Let me go, if you would just….." I couldn't finish my explanation when several clones pulled us off each other and up to our feet.

A voice called out. "Alright young one, what is it now?"

"I caught an intruder, a reporter is my guess, trying to get to General Kenobi." She said, pointing to me. "Captain, place her under arrest ."

Cody caught sight of me and nodded to the clones whom immediately let go of me. The youngling stood there, mouth dropping open in shock, obviously surprised he knew me.

"Where is Obi-Wan? Is he alright?" I asked him as he stepped through the men.

"He's hurt but not sure how bad." He said, motioning a path for me. "He's in the infirmary ."

"Thank you Cody." I smiled and nodded to him.

"Any time Lady Kenobi." He said and with that I hurried through the space, my heart hammering in my chest. As I left, I could hear the Jedi say, "Lady Kenobi?"

Once in the medical wing, I wove my way around the other men to where Obi-Wan lay in a cot in the far corner. The medics pulled off his tunics to his waist, his chest wrapped, his breathing labored. Blood stained the bandages. His face and hair filthy with dirt, sweat and blood.

"Oh my darling, I'm here." I reached down, not caring about the dirt, gently caressing his cheek, reaching out with the Force, feeling his strong heart beat.

I held his hand for several minutes, seeing the color slowly coming back to his face, as if, even unconscious he was drawing strength from my presence.

"Who are you?" An authoritative female voice suddenly spoke above my shoulder.

I turned to find a healer, not a Jedi, but one with that was, I assumed, with the Republic Medical Corp. To avoid another scene, I stood up, straightening my shoulders, trying to upstart her authority. "Lady Meagan Kenobi."

"Lieutenant Kristina Galen." She introduced herself, knowing I had every right to be here and explained his injuries. "He has three broken ribs and at least several more are deeply bruised. They have punctured his lungs in a couple places, which explain his labored breathing." She paused for a moment as I felt my face pale. "He's young and very strong. The lung punctures we can fix with only minor surgery. The ribs will take a little time to heal. Now, the metal cut his chest, so we've had to give him some blood but the bacta patches will heal the skin, but it was deep enough to scar it."

I nodded, wanting more than anything to see him well again. "When are you doing the procedure?"

"As soon as we can. There were several other more severely injured soldiers we've had to see first. He regained consciousness in orbit and was insisting we treat everyone else before him." I couldn't help but laugh at that. "I finally had to sedate him to get him to sit still."

I shook my head. "Thank you."

"You can sit by him for a few minutes while we finish preparing for the procedure." She explained she would be back for him in a few minutes and left. I sat on the edge of the cot, taking his hand, curling my hands around his, glad that he was going to be alright.

"Don't worry my love, I'll look after you." I leaned down, kissing his lips gently. "You are going to be just fine."

Galen soon came back for Obi-Wan, directing me to a waiting area. Tired from the work I was doing and the stress of feeling and hearing of Obi-Wan's injuries, I plopped down onto the chair, my legs almost unable to hold me up anymore. I watched as medical personal and clones came and went. I worried where Anakin was and if he was okay. Finally Galen came back.

"He came through just fine." She smiled as she went over everything. "I have him sedated to keep him still and once he wakes you will have to keep him still so the ribs can heal. We will have to change the bandages pretty frequently. We just didn't have enough tanks for….."

I held up a hand. "It's alright. I can put fresh bacta on it. Can I sit with him?"

"Of course." She led me back to where he lay, his breathing much easier, the bandages clean and sat by his side. "I must get back to work."

"Thank you." With that she was gone. I turned my attention to my husband who was still out of it. Catching a droid, I was able to get some water and proceeded to wash his face, hair, arms, shoulders, making sure to avoid getting the bandages wet. Once my work was done, I sat the bowl of now dirty water aside. "Oh Obi-Wan, what am I going to do with you?" I kissed him gently, sitting on the edge of the bed, determined to nurse him back to health.

As I sat there, a young man, about Anakin's age came through, worry sketched out onto his features. He looked quite surprised to see me, but quickly recovered, making a slight bow.

"Lady Kenobi I take it?" He said quietly.

"Yes I am, and you are?" I didn't move from Obi-Wan's side but turned slightly to address the padawan.

"Jared Motley." He glanced again at Obi-Wan, still looking concerned. "Is he going to be okay?"

I sighed as I explained his injuries, wondering why he was so concerned about my husband but didn't ask. "He'll be fine, I'll make sure of it."

"I'm glad." He shifted from one foot to the next. "I'm needed on the bridge, but can you send word when he wakes?" I was most certainly puzzled by this and it must have shown as he told me. "My master had been killed in the last battle with General Grievous, so Master Obi-Wan took me on for the moment."

"I'm sorry." Suddenly his behavior made sense and Obi-Wan would understand his feelings completely. "If there is anything I can do?"

"No thank you, mylady." He smiled slightly. "I'd best be on my way."

"I'll keep you updated about Obi-Wan." I paused, deciding to ask about the other Jedi. "Where is Anakin? Is he still around? I also met a young Tortuga?"

"Master Anakin is on the Fearless. I think it was given to him. Ahsoka was Master's Langeston padawan and was transferred to Master Anakin when her Master was killed in the same battle mine was."

"Thank you." I told him and watched him leave before glancing down to my still quiet husband. "You've been busy lately, taking on another padawan." I shook my head almost not believing it all, that Anakin now had a padawan. But we were at war, were young ones would be left without their master.

"Meagan." I heard Obi-Wan moan slightly, finally coming around.

"I'm right here." Leaning down, I gently brushed my lips against his. "How do you feel?"

"Like I got hit with a ton of steel." He grinned a bit. "Wait a minute, I think I did."

"Obi-Wan." I scolded but couldn't keep the laughter of relief from my voice.

"When did you get here?" He tried to sit up, but I held him down.

"The healer wanted you to keep still, your broken ribs need time to heal." I gave him a look that held him still. "And to answer your question, I got here several hours ago."

"I thought you were on the way back to the Temple?" He asked as I helped him drink a glass of water.

"I was on my way back when I felt you get hurt." I put the glass on the ledge then took his hand. "I just had to come."

He looked like he was going to say something but also looked like he was tired and closed his eyes.

"Get some rest my love." I traced a soft pattern on his cheek. "I'll be right here when you wake up. I love you."

"Love you too." His voice was slurred as he was already falling back asleep. I watched him sleep peacefully for a few minutes before letting the bridge know he had regained consciousness and was going to be okay.

"Meagan." I roused slightly as I heard someone calling my name a couple hours later as I was half asleep.

"Anakin." Seeing who it was, I pushed myself up as he leaned down to hug me.

"How is he?" He asked, glancing down to Obi-Wan.

"He's going to be fine." I assured him. "He will need to keep still as his ribs heal and he'll need to rest as his body replenishes the blood loss. Thankfully there were no permanent injuries."

He looked relieved at that. "I can't stay long, but wanted to see how he was doing."

"I heard you have your own ship and a padawan."

Anakin laughed. "Oh, I heard about your run in with Ahsoka. She's young and gets excited too easily."

I gave him an affectionate look. "Like someone else I knew."

"Point taken, but it's only temporary." He explained. "Just until things settle down to where she can be reassigned."

"You would make a good teacher." I told him, thinking he would be good for a young Jedi.

He shook his head, laughing slightly. "You two are really starting to think alike as Obi-Wan said nearly the same thing."

I glanced over to my sleeping mate, somehow not surprised. "You will find it out soon enough yourself."

I could see his ears starting to turn a bit red, well knowing I was referring to Padme, but before we could say anything else we were interrupted.

"Excuse me Master, but the Council left a message for you." The young Jedi that knocked me down only hours ago slowly entered the room.

"Very well." Anakin said before officially introducing us then addressed her. "Don't you have something to say to Meagan?"

"I'm sorry I didn't recognize you and treated you unfairly. I jumped to a conclusion and acted without finding out the whole truth." She said looking contrite and I believed her.

"I forgive you and I'm sorry too, I wasn't on my best behavior either." I smiled at her, glad to have another female in our family and someone to watch Anakin's back when he wasn't with Obi-Wan. "You were protecting Obi-Wan and I can't fault you for that."

She bowed slightly. "Thank you mylady."

Anakin came over and kissed my cheek. "We'd best get back to the Fearless. Com me if you need anything."

I nodded. "I'll be fine. I'll let you know how he is doing."

"Meagan, why don't you go back to your quarters to get some rest?" He suggested though he knew what I was going to say next.

"I'm not leaving him, but I'll try to get some rest."

"I guess that will have to do." Anakin hugged me again and then the two were gone, leaving me alone.

Everything began to calm down and we were soon on the way back to the Temple. I mostly stayed in the infirmary, taking care of my husband. After a day or so Galen released Obi –Wan from the infirmary as long as he stayed in our quarters and rested, under my care.

"Hold still." I told Obi-Wan as I unwound the bandage from around the chest. "How does it feel?"

"It's alright." He said slowly, watching as I pulled the old bacta patches off. "The ribs are pretty sore but seem to be healing alright."

"The bacta patches seem to be working as well." I examined the cut across his chest. It was still red but certainly not as bright or deep as it had been. Galen told me what to look for in regards to infection, but with the healing trance he was in, we weren't too worried about it. "I'll just put some new strips on there."

I reached over to the table where I took the new strips and began cutting them.

"Anakin told me you had a run in with his new Padawan." Obi-Wan commented as I worked, speaking slowly with his injuries.

I couldn't help but laugh. "I don't think she recognized me and decided I wasn't authorized to see you." I went onto explain that we had made amends since then. "So, how long are you going to be shadowed again?"

He took a deep breath and I could tell, just days later, they were still bothering him. "I believe he is ready to be on his own. He is a very capable Jedi and a tremendously talented young man, but I think he needs some time to adjust to losing his Master."

I began placing the patches on his bare chest, tentatively bringing up a touchy topic for him. "I think you are the perfect man to help him, considering you lost Qui-Gon."

He sighed as I smoothed the patches, making sure they were sticking. "It wasn't during a war though."

I reached up, gently pushing a few errant strands of hair away from his face. "I know it's hard to talk about, war or not, but I think he could benefit from your experience."

"I know." He leaned down, grimacing slightly, kissing me gently. "But to answer your question, it shouldn't be much longer than several months. I'm sorry we didn't have time to discuss it."

I reached over taking clean bandages to wrap them around his chest. "It's alright, I know things are going to happen."

We were silent for several minutes as I continued to work. "Does this feel alright?"

He took a breath and I could tell it was much easier for him. "Make it a bit tighter."

I nodded as I finished my work, then starting to clean it up. Once I was done, he leaned back against the wall before speaking.

"I take it, if I try to do any work, you'll have me knocked out." I could hear the smirk in his voice, well knowing I wouldn't let him do anything till the healers gave him a clean bill of health.

I laughed as I settled next to him on the bed in our quarters. "I certainly will."

He kissed me gently and we rested quietly together. I was certainly relieved he was well on his way to completely healing.

Now for the quote, we can almost hear Sheldon Cooper's voice: From The Big Bang Theory, episode The Euclid Alternative

Sheldon: Your check-engine light is on.
Penny: Mm-hm!
Sheldon: Typically, that's an indicator to, you know, check your engine.
Penny: It's fine, it's been on for, like, a month.
Sheldon: Well, actually, that would be all the more reason to, you know, check your engine.
Penny: Sheldon, it's fine.
Sheldon: If it were fine, the light wouldn't be on. That's why the manufacturer installed that light, to let you know it's not fine.
Penny: Maybe the light's broken.
Sheldon: Is there a check-the-check-engine-light light?

sarahmichellegellarfan1: We are so glad that you found our story and have enjoyed it so far. To answer one of your questions, we didn't include Episode One in the story as we weren't going to change the story. We didn't want it to feel like a repeat with Meagan added in so we highlighted the end where Qui-Gon died and Anakin became a Jedi apprentice. We hope you continue to read our story. Thank you for all your thoughts.

ahsokanerd: Thank you for such a thoughtful review. Ahsoka was a bit out of character, but she just lost her Master, so that would make anyone a bit different. She will become more herself as we go. For her age, we did estimate it, though we did make her a preteen based on the Jedi Apprentice series. Don't know if you have read them or not but a Jedi youngling had to be chosen by a Master by their 13th birthday or they were not able to become a Jedi. Obi-Wan was chosen days before his 13th birthday by Qui-Gon. They were George approved, but maybe something we have not read has contradicted it. They are a very good read, even if they are written for teens. Ahsoka will more than likely be more of a minor character though she will certainly play a bigger role in certain sections of the story. As for Sasha, on one side she is underdeveloped and can certainly be worked on. However, she is only about four years old and a lot of her development will come along as she gets older. As for her and Ahsoka, it's basically Sasha seeing her as competition to Anakin's time. You know, the toddler's creed of mine, mine, mine. She knows she shouldn't act up, she does anyway but more on that later. As for our version of the Clone Wars, they will probably be about the same time, maybe slightly longer. As for Ahsoka's fate, we haven't decided whether we will include that sequence or not, or maybe change it or do something completely different. Thanks again and we hope this answers some of your questions and have enjoyed this chapter.

Sharnorasian Empire: Ya, lately with things going on it's been a bit harder to get updates so it's understandable if you forget things. We sometimes have to go back and reread things ourselves. And yes, Meagan, being such a part of this Star Wars world, has nearly forgotten things, or sometimes will feel familiar to her but can't place it. But she also has been gone from Earth for so long, so she will forget things. Thanks again. We hope you liked this chapter.

Phygmalion: Palpatine's mind is a very interesting place isn't it? I think the commander nailed it. Palpatine's plans seem almost crazy sometimes and seem idiotic, but they always seem to work in the end don't they? You certainly didn't offend us and we've always appreciated your thoughts and it had nothing to do with the time between updates. That was strictly us moving and trying to get the walls repainted and decide how to do the floors. It took us much longer than anticipated. Thanks again and we hope you enjoyed this last update.
