Chapter One Hundred and Five
**Anakin's Point of View**
I sighed as I stared out of the window, thinking on the last days, week really, feeling frustrated that we still had learned nothing more on what happened to Meagan and Obi-Wan. Clone intelligence was further investigating the downed ship report, as it was clearly in Separatist territory, though not all that far from Serrano, but I was not sure they would learn more. Though we did learn the name of the planet, but time would tell if it came in handy. Meanwhile, hundreds of claims that people had seen them were pouring in but none of these "leads" held any promise, but was making our jobs at finding them much harder. The press of course was having an absolute field day, constantly reporting the new leads that were found, while others were reporting that the Republic would lose the war as one of its famous Jedi heroes was lost completely. Others were wanting to get a glimpse of Sasha, to see how she was handling the "kidnapping" of her parents. And those were just a few of them.
"Master?" Ahsoka, who had been handling all this very well, had come up from behind me. "Are you alright?"
"As well as I can be." I sighed, wishing the situation was different.
"Have the Masters or Clone intelligence found anything new?" Her voice was quiet, but disappointed, as if already knowing the answer.
"Nothing." I turned towards her. "Are your classes done for the day?"
When she assured me she was, I turned, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Come on Padawan, let's get Sasha and head for home."
Later that evening, as Padme was putting Sasha to bed, Ahsoka and I were sitting down going over the "leads" making sure we did not miss anything. After several long minutes, both of us were more than frustrated.
"Ahh." Ahsoka said, her spoken words, more than echoing my own thoughts. "It is like Master Obi-Wan and Meagan completely disappeared." She gave a long sigh. "It's almost as if there is nothing we can do."
"Well, we can get a ship and start searching for them ourselves." I threw out, hoping we could just take off and maybe finally find something useful.
"Anakin." I had not even realized Padme had come back into the room until she spoke. "You hardly have any reliable information to what happened to them and searching for them like that would be fruitless and wouldn't help anything."
I knew she was right but didn't like it at all. Though the gentle kiss she gave me did make feel at least a little bit better. "Is Sasha asleep?"
Padme nodded but before she could speak again we were interrupted by her handmaiden.
"Excuse me my lady but Captain Rex is here to see General Skywalker."
"You can show him in." With that she left the room.
"General Skywalker." Rex who had been working as hard as I was, stepped into the room a moment or so later. I was not too surprised to see him still working at this hour. He and Cody had not stopped trying to find Obi-Wan and Meagan since they were taken from us.
I glanced upwards. "You find something?"
He gave a little sigh. "I'm not sure sir. I started monitoring different sub-space messages to see if there was anything abnormal."
I had asked him to conduct searches in every way possible so I wasn't too surprised at this one, even if it was a little out of the ordinary. "Well, if at all possible, I think Obi-Wan would try in some way to communicate with us."
Rex nodded. "That's why I had my men starting this search. Anyway, nothing has come back completely abnormal but there are a few that are slightly different than your normal sub-space static." He handed me a data pad. "They are all recorded on this."
"Thank you Rex. I will let you know if anything comes from it, but keep searching."
"Your welcome sir and will do." With that he left.
Wanting to see if this would help us at all, I listened to them all once, right there, then listened to them again. I could see why Rex set these aside but the differences could be based on if there were mechanical problems somewhere or some older models gave off a different vibe than the newer ones and a lot of other explanations.
"Anakin, it's late, come to bed." Padme interrupted my work several days later, while I was listening to them for the umpteenth time, but I was no further along than I was before Rex brought them to me. "You won't do Obi-Wan and Meagan any good by neglecting yourself."
Knowing she was right and maybe a night of resting in her arms would help clear my mind and heart, I allowed her to pull me to bed.
A couple days later the Masters, to supposedly help Ahsoka and I clear our minds, sent us off planet. It was a simple mission, to help reinforce another Master's troops to push the Seps back in a sector. At first I found it completely annoying to be working on anything but finding Master Obi-Wan and Meagan but once we got into action I found it be almost refreshing. Neither of us would have admitted it to anyone except maybe my wife, but I think, later, looking back, it did help reenergize us in the search.
**Sasha's point of view**
One evening, like most nights since mummy and daddy went missing, I sat down with Aunt Padme. Uncle Anakin had left planet, taking Ahsoka with him.
"Senator." Another woman came into the room. "Chancellor Palpatine is here to see you."
"Very well, tell him I will be there shortly. You can show him into the sitting room." Aunt Padme turned to me. "I will be back shortly and we can finish the story then. Stay here."
"Okay." With that my aunt kissed the top of my head and left the room.
As I was picking up a book to look at, a bad feeling came over me and I heard a voice speaking to me. "Hide little one."
Daddy told me to trust my feelings and I did so. Tugging on the force, I ran to my bedroom and hid in the closet, feeling someone searching for me, something that felt dark. Tugging on the force harder, I tucked myself into a small ball and waited.
Sometime later, I started feeling better and crawled out of the closet and climbed up onto the bed. I pulled Mr. Teddy close, wishing mummy and daddy were here.
"Sasha, sweetheart, what's wrong?" Came Aunt Padme's voice.
I looked up at her as she smoothed my hair. "I miss mummy and daddy."
She gave me a soft smile. "I know you do, so do I but we must have faith your Uncle will find them and bring them home." She pulled me close and it was nearly like mummy but not quite. "Why don't we finish your story before going to bed?"
"Okay." She kissed, the top of my head before going to get the book.
***3rd person point of view***
Chancellor Palpatine headed towards his home after visiting Senator Amidala. Oh he had official business to take care of but it really could have waited till the following day when they were both in their Senate offices but that was not the main reason for a visit. Since the disappearance of the Kenobi's, he had a feeling Anakin might have been taking care of the suddenly "orphaned" daughter. From the military reports he received, he knew Anakin and his Padawan were away, this might be the best time to try to nab her. She would be sad and lonely, so vulnerable right now, so easy to turn. So he invented a purpose to visit the Senator in the evening, when he figured the youngling would be there, after her classes would be over for the day.
As he conversed with Senator Amidala, he stretched out with the Force, trying to get a sense of the Kenobi child, to see if she was currently there. But all he felt were faint traces, like she had been there recently but not currently residing here, as if she only came over when Anakin was on planet.
Deciding to be a little bold, he asked how she was holding up, she said she was hopeful they would be found alive and well and would be home soon. As he was leaving, he apologized for interrupting her evening. The Senator only smiled, saying it was alright, as she was only doing some relaxing reading. They made their goodbyes and the Chancellor headed for home, thinking that the Kenobi child must not have been there, knowing Amidala would have no reason to suspect him or lie to him and he felt no presence that alluded to an active presence, only one that told him she had been there. But he knew when Anakin and his apprentice were present, he would have no chance to kidnap the child. He scowled in displeasure. If only she had been there, he would have found a way to take her, to make her his.
For he knew his time would be limited. After all, he knew Dooku did not have the Kenobi's. His apprentice told him Ventress captured them and they were in route to Dooku when something went wrong. Dooku did not know for sure exactly what happened, only that they escaped somehow and he assumed they were making their way back to safer Republic space. Dooku of course had his armies looking for them as quietly as they could so the Jedi couldn't find them either. But he figured the Jedi Master would find his way home again, at least eventually.
That man and his wife were becoming a strong thorn in his side. It was as if the Force itself was working through them, to thwart every one of his plans and he did not like it. He was determined to best Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, determined to turn Anakin and his daughter. He would win this war, one way or another.
**Meagan's Point of View**
"How are you feeling?" Dalton asked as he handed me a cup of tea one day as we were traveling to our next stop. "This should help the morning sickness."
"Thank you." I gave him a grateful look. "It hasn't been too bad but certain smells set it off, particularly coffee."
Dalton just smiled, seemingly pleased to be having another grandchild. "It's alright. With our first one, Rosabella couldn't stand the smell of eggs but for our youngest it was something completely different."
I couldn't help but feel better, almost wishing I had her to talk to about this as the majority of my friends did not have children and when I was pregnant with Sasha I mostly had to search the holonet or ask the healers. "Can I ask you something?"
He took a sip from his own cup. "Sure, between four children and now eight grands, I have some experience in the matter."
"When you and Rosabella were expecting your first together, how did your older one take it? I mean how did you tell her?"
Dalton did not look surprised at all, it was as if he was expecting the question. "If I remember correctly, we simply told her mummy was going to have a baby and she was going to have a little brother or sister. She handled it very well, but it was also a different situation. Rosabella is one of four children, so there are a lot of cousins and both sets of grandparents had a good number of children, so her extended family is rather large, so being an only child she was feeling a bit left out without siblings. So even when it was a brother rather than a sister, she was pretty excited about it."
"How old was she?"
He paused for a moment without speaking. "I think she was about six, nearly seven. Kalea is gosh, I think a little over a year younger than Obi-Wan. Sasha is what three or four now?"
"Four, though she will say she is nearly five." We laughed at that. "Though I am concerned about her reaction as when Anakin recently took on a Padawan she didn't react well to it. She eventually accepted it and now gets along with her."
"That might make it easier." Dalton tried to put me more at ease. "I think trying to keep it positive, that it is a good thing, that she can be helpful, could help her adjust. Make her a part of it. Kalea helped us design a new nursery, picked clothes out and things like that and it got her really excited about having a sibling."
Though I had not a clue to where we were even going to put the new baby, he did have some great points. They may have to be edited to fit our smaller quarters in the Temple, but it would certainly be ideas to try. "Did she ask where the baby was coming from?"
"If Sasha is as curios as Kalea was, then I am sure she will." He anticipated my next question. "I would keep it as simple as possible but truthful at the same time."
"Sasha is younger than yours was but did you go into a lot of details?"
"Not that many, just enough to satisfy her questions and once we did that, she didn't ask any more questions, at least then."
"Thank you, most of our friends do not have children so having someone to talk to about these issues with is great."
"You are quite welcome."
Dalton and I continued to discuss raising children and it was nice getting some advice about having two children from someone who had already successfully raised children. Dalton was in the middle of a story involving a trip with a nearly ten-year-old, a three-year-old and one-year-old when Obi-Wan walked in.
My husband stopped short at hearing our laughter, looking from one of us to the other, as if trying to figure out what we had been discussing.
Seeing my husband's confusion, Dalton paused in his story. "I was just sharing with Meagan some advice on being a parent that Rosabella and I learned by experience, so maybe you two wouldn't make the same mistakes we did."
As Obi-Wan sat down next to me, still looking a bit unsure, Dalton finished his story. The two of us continued to chat with Obi-Wan mostly staying quiet and I could tell he was still a bit uncomfortable around Dalton though he was at least trying not to show it. It didn't seem to bother Dalton too much or at least wanted to give his grown son some space.
During our next stop, Dalton and Obi-Wan heard about where the Separatists were moving around and realized they were watching for us or at least watching the shipping lanes going in and out.
"I do not think we should be leaving just yet." Obi-Wan said as we were discussing our next plans. "I am not sure we will be able to get away with them nearly surrounding us."
Dalton agreed. "We can hold up here for a while. It's safe enough, at least no more dangerous than any other stop we've made."
"The Separatists should not hang around here long, there is nothing in this area for them, unless they spot us." There was really no presence on planet but some of the smaller warships were appearing on the ships' scope.
So here we were, stuck in the middle of who knows where, waiting for the Separatists to clear the area. At this rate, I would give birth on this ship and not back in the Temple. So, we stayed there for several weeks. Thankfully it was good sized, with several settlements and a mixture of humans and other species. We could get supplies and stay rather inconspicuous as long as we laid somewhat low. Unfortunately, with so much activity in the area we were unable to send any messages at all to get any help.
Thankfully my morning sickness eventually faded away and the smell of coffee stopped making me run for the refresher. However, I still tired rather easily and often felt bloated, making me uncomfortable at times. Though both men made sure I was drinking plenty of water and eating a balanced diet. I often spent time doing some stretching exercises, helping my changing body adjust. Obi-Wan and I often meditated, hoping to find a way out of this predicament and for me to relax my mind and body.
Finally the Separatists cleared the area and we took our chances and plotted a new course. It still wouldn't take us into Republic space but at least this jump seemed to get us closer to safer space instead of back tracking like we had before. We still had no idea if the sub-space messages we sent out weeks ago were received and understood by Anakin or any of our Republic forces.
Despite the situation, things were going well or as okay as they could have with everything. Unfortunately, because of an asteroid belt we had to make a stop before going around it, making sure we had enough fuel and making sure the ship was in top shape before doing so. Obi-Wan had wanted me to stay on the ship but my changing body was creating needs for more clothing. While Dalton was working on the ship as it was refueling, Obi-Wan and I headed to the shops. Dalton had some credits we could use but most of what I found, I traded for it.
We also picked up some fresh food and water before taking them onboard. Obi-Wan and I headed back out to pick up some other supplies, thinking to be completely stocked up for a while, this time Dalton coming along with us when the trouble began. We didn't even make it back to the markets when droids were spotted.
Obi-Wan was looking around, gauging the situation, while pulling out his lightsaber. "Get out of here, I will take care of these droids."
Tears immediately flooded my eyes. "I am not leaving you."
"Meagan, go." Obi-Wan turned, lightsaber flashing, people in the streets running for cover as the firing began.
I kept trying to protest, but Dalton, already firing his blaster at the droids, took my arm, leading me away.
"Meagan, come on." Rather reluctantly I followed him quickly. We made it to the ship safely, Obi-Wan providing a nice distraction.
I was still wiping the tears away as Dalton started the ship and lifted off. "We are not leaving him."
Dalton turned slightly. "I have no intention of doing so. Can you shoot?"
I nodded, taking the co-poliot's seat before reaching for the triggers.
"Good." Dalton swung upwards then around but keeping low.
I tried not to gasp as I caught sight of General Grievous heading straight towards my husband. Gathering myself together, I began shooting at Grievous. Unfortunately, while several droids fell, the leader of the droid army kept moving forwards.
As he and Obi-Wan engaged in a fight, I turned to Dalton. "Any ideas?"
"A few." He answered, obviously concentrating on his flying. "Just hang on and fire when I tell you to."
As Dalton swung around for a better angle, I saw the droids were hanging back as Grievous was taking on Obi-Wan in what looked like an even fight. Watching my husband, I was fighting the tears, hoping he would make it through this.
"Okay, Meagan, I know it's hard but I need you to concentrate and start shooting at Grievous." Dalton instructed me a couple moments later. "We need to provide a distraction long enough for him to jump on board."
Though my aim, due to the tears I couldn't seem to stop, was awful, they did seem to work just enough to cause a needed distraction. Obi-Wan jumped onboard the ship and Dalton immediately took off towards the sky, already avoiding enemy ships and their fire.
Obi-Wan came up from behind me, then nearly pushed me out of the way, going to help Dalton. "Meagan strap in."
Still wiping the tears, I did as I was instructed. Not surprisingly, as we fly into orbit, we were nearly surrounded by enemy warships. How would we get out of this? I could not help but wonder as we took a few hits but thankfully the shields were holding.
"Any ideas?" I heard Dalton ask as we were avoiding enemy fire.
Obi-Wan was looking at the grid where the ships were located before speaking a quick escape plan.
Dalton looked almost questionable, swinging us around again. "Are you sure about this? That is a gamble."
Obi-Wan shot down an enemy fighter before answering. "We've used it before and in this situation, I prefer to get out of here before Grievous gets back on board his ship."
"Switch places with me." Dalton made a spilt second decision, already rising from his chair.
Obi-Wan did not waste a moment and was soon flying quickly through the droid's ships, narrowly missing being hit dead on. I held my breath, hoping it wasn't about to be my last. "Fire everything you got when I say."
"Loading it now and I have some coordinates loading in the computer, so we should be ready to jump shortly." Dalton answered.
Obi-Wan turned the ship on its side, making me almost sick to my stomach, the tears still not really stopping, flying right between two other ships.
A few hair-raising moments later, Dalton spoke. "Ready."
Obi-Wan only nodded before swinging the ship around, getting into the correct position and pulling several of the fighters along with us. Obi-Wan glanced at the ships gauges before adjusting something, then directed us right toward Grievous' flag ship that would cause a head on collision. Then suddenly he pulled upwards, flying right above the massive vehicle. "Now."
With that Dalton fired everywhere, creating quite a distraction, long enough for Obi-Wan to clear us of the majority of the field. "Punch it."
With that the stars went blurry and we were safe. I breathed a sigh of relief, I think we all did, and wiped my tears, not believing I was still sobbing. I managed to undo the restraining belt and stood up.
Wiping my eyes, I found Obi-Wan had gotten out of his seat and was facing me. "I thought I told you to leave."
Dalton was about to protest but I cut him off. "I am not having this baby without you, whether you like it or not."
"Meagan, you could…." Obi-Wan gave a sigh, deciding not to say have died, but stared at me for a moment watching me wipe the tears yet again. "Are you still….."
He did not finish his statement but I knew what he was going to say and was not going to let him get away with it, even if he did think better of it.
"Of course I am still crying. We are behind enemy lines while being chased by at least Grievous and we do not know how or when we will get home, if I will be giving birth in the middle of nowhere. To top it off my stupid husband wanted me to leave him behind while fighting Grievous. Add in raging hormones, I am certainly entitled to still be crying." By now both men looked rather guilty and realizing the tantrum I was throwing, felt even worse and I fled the room.
On my way out, I heard Obi-Wan calling for me but then heard Dalton telling him to let me be. I ran to our quarters and nearly threw myself onto the bed, sobbing. It took some time, but I finally managed to bring myself under control, knowing it was the stress of everything that caused it, not to mention the pregnancy hormones.
It was sometime later I sensed Obi-Wan had entered the room. He sat down next to me, holding out a cup. "I thought you might be cold and brought you something to keep you warm."
I sat up, taking the cup from him, thinking it was sweet of him to do so. "Thank you."
I sipped it slowly, the two of us sitting in the silence. When I finally finished the tea, Obi-Wan took the cup and rising from the bed, set it on a small table that was in the room before coming back to join me on the bed again. This time he pulled me close.
"Meagan, I know this has not been easy on you." He spoke quietly some moments later. "And I know your condition is not helping the situation."
I began scowling at his words, stating the obvious was not helping me or him any. I began to make a move to leave but sensing it, he tightened his hold on me.
"I am going to do everything I possibly can to try to get you back home but you have to trust me."
"I do." I assured him.
"By disobeying?" His eyebrow quirked upwards, obviously questioning my logic.
"We are in this together Obi-Wan Kenobi." I told him in no uncertain terms. "I am not going home to our daughter without you and that's my final word."
I felt him place a kiss on the top of my head before murmuring. "What am I ever going to do with you?"
Finally feeling better, I rested in his arms.
Quote: We had to put this one from Charmed in here, being the fact we took Meagan's crying speech from it! It's from season 5, episode Siren's Song.
Piper: "My body, my thoughts, my dreams have all gone wonky."
Leo: "Well I'm sure it's just normal pregnancy stuff, we can talk about this later, if you wanna."
Paige, nearly whispering: "Oh, I think you should talk about this now."
Leo: "I think this attack on Melissa is demonic, the Elders want me to watch after her until she is safe."
Piper, tearing up: "Fine, then go."
Leo: "Not the crying thing."
Piper: "Leo, I have growing powers inside of me, powers that I do not understand, the only person who does understand them never has time to talk. Add that to raging hormones, I am absolutely entitled to do the crying thing." Piper is crying and burps white light.
Paige: "Okay, is that normal?"
Leo: "I am sure all of this arguing has got the baby upset."
Piper: "Leo, the baby is an inch long, all this arguing is upsetting the Mommy."
