Chapter One Hundred and Six

**Sasha's Point of View**

I sat by the stream's edge in the garden, the other kids were playing but I didn't feel like it. Mummy and Daddy had been gone for so long now, would they ever come home? Would I ever see them again?

"Hey there." An older boy sat next to me.

I smiled at Skyler. "Hi."

"Are you doing okay?" He asked me, his voice was quiet.

I shrugged. "Okay."

"We are all here for you, you are not alone." He gave me a smile and a hug.

"I know, but I miss them."

"I know." He said and was quiet for a bit. "Come on, let's go play." He hopped up then pulled me up.

"Where are we going?" I asked as he was pulling me across the gardens.

"To climb some rocks." He said, not stopping. "Have you ever done it before?"

"A little." I admitted. "Only some of the smaller ones."

"I will help you." Skyler gave a twisted smile.

Being well over 7 years old, he had climbed more than I and helped me with some bigger rocks. For a little while, I was able to forget and had much fun. Skyler said he would come play with me again soon, which made me feel happy.

After playtime was finished, the crèche masters took us from the gardens back to our rooms for lunch and then a short nap before more lessons. But I didn't sleep, thinking about mummy and daddy. I tried to feel them in the Force but felt nearly nothing. Uncle Anakin said they weren't dead and I tried to believe him but some days it was too hard. The bad feeling I had with Aunt Padme went away, I didn't know what it meant, but didn't want to trouble anyone with it.

Later in the evening Uncle Anakin came and took me to his home. We ate the last meal, Aunt Padme asking about our day but none of us felt like talking.

"Come on kiddio, why don't we read some stories together?" Anakin asked, holding out his hand.

"Okay." He led me into my bedroom and settled us into bed, pulling me onto his lap.

After a few stories, he set the books aside. "Is there anything you want to talk about?"

I cuddled against him. "Uncle Anakin, I'm scared Mummy and Daddy aren't going to come home."

He held me close. "I know are you, but have faith, we are going to find them. It's just taking longer than either of us like."

I blinked away the tears, tucking my face into him.

Uncle Anakin kissed the top of my head. "I know little one, I know. I miss them too but your Aunt and I will always love and take care of you no matter what."

I nodded, feeling a little better.

"Come on, it's getting late and you need to get some sleep."

He helped me dress for bed and then tucked me in, handing me Mr. Teddy. "Sleep well little Jedi."

"Good night." He kissed my cheek, turned out the light and left the room.

Before falling asleep, I gazed out the window, wondering where they were.

**Padme's Point of View**

The next morning came far too early, especially after Anakin and I stayed up late talking about how best to help Sasha. I managed to get her and Ahsoka fed the first meal before trying to get them both ready for the day. It wasn't easy trying to motivate a moody toddler and an even moodier teenager who certainly didn't want to take the test she had today and if she could have slammed a door shut Ahsoka would have. I knew events of late were causing the changes in their behavior and wanted to go easy on both of them but this morning herding cats would have been easier than trying to get them ready for the day.

As Anakin was on his comlink with either Rex or a Jedi, I headed into Sasha's bedroom to find her finally trying to put her shoes on. I knelt down and saw her wince slightly as I buckled one shoe on then the other. "Sasha does that hurt? Are your toes feeling squished?"

She shrugged at first but as I gazed at her for another moment or two, she then nodded.

"Are all your shoes feeling like this?" I asked as I felt along the tops of her shoes. She was definitely growing out of them.

She only nodded.

"We will get you some new ones." I told her as I stood up. "Are you about ready?"

"Yes Aunt Padme."

"Get your things together and I'll be back shortly." With that I left the bedroom to the main living area and thankfully Anakin was through with his com call. "What time are Sasha's classes over?"

"Uh?" He looked clueless. "Why?"

"She is growing out of her shoes. Do you know what size she wears? We'll have to buy her new ones."

"I'm not sure, Meagan usually handled that." He paused before shrugging, seemingly not too worried about it. "I can take her to the Jedi commissary to get her a few new pairs."

"Anakin do you know anything about little girl's shoes? I know she has more than your Jedi standard work boots."

He opened his mouth then closed it again before speaking a moment or two later. "Perhaps you should go. The masters in the crèche will be able to help I'm sure."

We looked at each other for long moments, seemingly the events of the last day or so making me think both of us were coming to realize we weren't just watching Sasha for an extended period of time, that Obi-Wan and Meagan weren't taking another honeymoon, but we had essentially become Sasha's temporary parents.

"I'll come back over here this afternoon and then we can get her new shoes when I pick her up." Anakin suggested.

"I'll work here today." I nodded as he came towards me and pulled me into his arms. "This isn't what I thought it would be."

Anakin was about to say something when an argument broke out between Sasha and Ahsoka. "I'll handle this." He kissed me quickly before heading over to the girls who were now waiting on the other side of the room, closer to the door.

I couldn't tell what it was about, but he managed to herd them outside the door. Once it shut behind them and their voices were no longer heard, I gave a long sigh before sitting down on the couch. After a few minutes I rose and finished getting myself dressed and headed into the den. Once settled there, I didn't jump right into any Senate work but decided to call my own mother, feeling like I needed some good advice.

Even though I felt like she helped me, as I completed some work, Sasha was never far from my thoughts. I could only hope Obi-Wan and Meagan would come home soon and we'd all be united once again, that this war would end soon, then peace would reign across the galaxy. But some days, like today, it seemed so far away.

**3rd Person Point of View**

Chancellor Palpatine had gone home late one evening when he contacted his current apprentice Dooku about the situation concerning Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his wife.

"I am sorry my Master but we do not have them." Dooku explained the most recent news of them. "Grievous had found them but General Kenobi managed to escape. I have an idea of where they are heading but he keeps evading me."

"See to it yourself." Palpatine seethed, wanting this to go his way. "I want the Kenobi's dead. Their death will be the end of Skywalker and the end of the Republic."

"I will find them Master." Dooku assured him. "There are only so many places they can go without getting caught. I do not believe there is a way Skywalker or any of the Jedi will find them first as Kenobi will not be able to contact anyone for help without being found out."

"Very well." Sidious agreed. "Make sure Skywalker does not find them first. I do not want either of them getting back here."

"I understand Master." Dooku bowed his head before his image went out.

Palpatine sat there for long moments contemplating his next move. Kenobi was smart, someone was helping him evade the searches Dooku and Grievous was making on him, but he was clueless to who it was, to how such a well-known Jedi and his wife, who was just as known for her humanitarian efforts deep in Separatist territory, were not only escaping droids on planets but somehow managing to slowly but surely creep back into safer territory.

He was hoping the Jedi might know more about the situation, so after Senator Amidala said she did not know anymore, he asked Master Windu when he saw him in the Senate arena one day. The Jedi said they had not learned much more than what was last reported, but were hoping they were still alive somewhere and had some of the Clones conducting searches for the missing couple. Palpatine did not think the Jedi was lying to him, he certainly did not sense anything amiss and as the military reports didn't say anything different, he believed the Jedi really did not know anything more either. So there was no information he could pass onto Dooku so he could find Kenobi before the Jedi could or that the Kenobi's could save themselves.

This was so madly frustrating. Ventress had Kenobi and his wife in her grasp and lost them. He had the perfect opportunity to kidnap the child when she did not have the protection of her parents and it might be easy to lure her away from an aunt without her uncle interfering but he was unable to locate her. He desperately wanted to try again but he thought if he kept dropping by Amidala's penthouse apartment, she or even the Jedi would get suspicious of him. Not that they would think he was the perpetrator to everything with the war or that he was the Sith, but he didn't want them thinking he might be connected to the other side in any way. It would become harder to glean information about Jedi and such that was helping aide the Separatist in the war. He was certainly not going ruin everything by one simple mistake in his zealousness to turn Skywalker and Kenobi. He was going to have to be a little more patient in trying to get them. But yet he knew if Dooku was successful and he brought back the bodies of the Kenobi's, not only would the Jedi be devastated, so would the rest of the Republic. It would then be only a matter of time till he would get to Skywalker. When the influence of the light that the stabilizing relationship of the Kenobi's provided Skywalker, especially Meagan, was gone, he would be ready to turn, so devastated by the loss, so grieved in watching his beloved niece without her parents, it would almost be too easy.

Suddenly he found himself to be disappointed. He wanted to lord his victory over Obi-Wan and Meagan Kenobi that their love would not triumph, that it ended up bringing down an entire galaxy. But yet at the end of the day he would live with it because he would rather have them dead by any means possible than telling Dooku to bring them to him only to have something else go wrong. No, it was best if Dooku could straight up kill them now to avoid any other mishaps.

Heaving a deep sigh, the Sith Lord and chancellor of the Republic turned and gazed out the window toward the night scape of the city. Buildings lite up as speeders drove by, an ordinary night despite a waging war. Even in the darkness he could see the spears of the Jedi Temple, wondering if young Sasha Kenobi lay sleeping there or in one of the penthouse suites where most of the Senators lived, not too far from where he was sitting. She was so close but still so far from him, but not for long, one day soon, she would be his.

**Anakin's point of view**

"Okay Ahsoka." I said one day, still frustrated that none of the leads we had been given had panned out and the press still reporting all the drama had not helped the situation any. "Let's go over everything we know."

She stared at me. "Everything?"

"Alright, everything that we think is reliable or reasonable." I further explained.

Together we pieced together what we knew for sure and frankly had to theorize on many of the points. First, we drew up a map of where Obi-Wan and Meagan were taken.

"If Ventress was taking them to Serreno." I drew my hand across the page towards the planet. "They could have taken a couple different routes but the wreck we heard reported soon after the kidnapping, would be this one."

"Can we make the assumption that Ventress was taking them to Dooku?" She asked, it was a legitimate question.

"Well, she is his apprentice and that is his home base. I am not sure where else she would have been taking them to. Would any other Separatist planet be a better strategic value?"

"You have a point but there is no evidence pointing to that route."

"There is no evidence to the contrary."

"There is no evidence what so ever Master, we are never going to find them." Ahsoka was sounding just as frustrated as I felt.

"Yes, we will. I think we just need to think this through, think about how Obi-Wan would handle this and maybe we can get somewhere."

"Alright." Ahsoka agreed that it was a good starting point, back to the drawing board as I heard Meagan say. "I think he would put protecting Meagan as his top priority over capturing Ventress."

I thought that would be more than likely but wanted to hear more of her reasons. "And why would that be?"

She was silent for a few long moments before speaking again. "Meagan's pregnant and it is meant to be a secret though I was never told why but it must be very important. Therefore, he wouldn't want Dooku to sense what I am sure is a force sensitive child."

"Okay, a reasonable explanation." I thought for a moment before working on a hypothesis. "Obi-Wan would have wanted to know why Ventress took him and where she was taking them. I bet he would have found out somehow and planned an escape."

"Then what? Planned something that crashed the ship?" Ahsoka asked. "But why?"

"Better chance of escape than once they were on Serrano." I theorized before continuing on. "So, Obi-Wan and Meagan manage to cause some sort of accident which made the ship crash and then escaped on the planet."

"Then what? Wouldn't they have been caught again?"

"Then why the silence? If they were killed, it would have been a big show and we would all know about it." I slowly shook my head, trying to figure this out. "No Obi-Wan and Meagan escaped."

"So you think they are on the planet they escaped from?"

"We have to think this through Ahsoka. If they stayed there, they surely would have been caught again, it's not a big planet." I hoped I was guiding her through what I thought was a logical course of events. "So, logically, they must have gotten off planet."

"But how? Did they have enough money to buy a ship or pay someone in Separatist territory to take them somewhere? Mind trick someone into giving them a ride?" Ahsoka quickly pointed out the holes.

"Then someone must be helping them, they must have called someone for help that is not connected to the Republic. They have to be communicating somehow."

"But to who Master?"

I gave a long sigh before answering her question. "I don't know."

After some thought, I asked Dede and Jema to start to contacting everyone Meagan had worked with or kept in normal contact with from all the missions she went on. Though they both pointed out that surely with all the press, that anyone who heard from them would have reported to us already. But what if it was a message that wasn't quite understood or for some reason they had to keep quiet about it? It was a long shot but anything that could be traceable might be able to help us.

**Meagan's Point of View**

After our run in with Grievous and my emotional outburst, things settled down, as much as they could for being on the run that is. I missed Sasha terribly and often worried how she was handling all of this but knew Anakin and Padme were taking care of her. But despite the situation, with everything really, I was enjoying spending time with my father in law and hearing more about the family. Obi-Wan was even getting along with him better, not that they were the best of friends but my husband seemed and felt more comfortable around him lately.

We often talked and played games in the empty hours of hyperspace. When we were first rescued, Obi-Wan would rarely join in but now several weeks later he was participating much more. I could tell it pleased Dalton to be getting to know his son more personably. Though I knew once we were back home, it wasn't likely we would see him again due to the war. But maybe this time I would keep at least a little bit in touch with him.

"You're kidding me." Dalton exclaimed interrupting my thoughts.

Obi-Wan was chuckling softly. "I'm being perfectly serious."

Dalton cocked his eyebrow turning to me. "Is he playing with me?"

"I'm sorry I was not paying complete attention." I glanced from one to the other. "What were you two talking about?"

Dalton laughed while Obi-Wan chuckled slightly. "We were talking about you. Did you really run into a building about to blow up?" He sounded like he didn't believe it.

I somehow managed not to smirk. "Yes I did, it seemed like the right decision. It saved lives and I soon gained a husband."

Obi-Wan rolled his eyes as Dalton stared at me. "You really get into a lot of trouble don't you?"

I gave him an innocent look. "Not too much."

"Constantly." Came my husband's voice, dry with sarcasm. "You even admitted it once."

"I did not." I couldn't help but protest. I didn't get into that much trouble, no more than any other Jedi did.

"Yes you did, when you told me about the wild cubs you took in."

"I was young, they were injured. And I only said it as your daughter was causing trouble."

Obi-Wan was smirking good naturedly at me. "She didn't get that from me."

As Dalton looked a little clueless, we shared with him, how a couple years ago, Sasha and a friend set two miniatures bears loose in the Temple and how it reminded me of some of my own childhood.

Dalton got a kick out of the stories and we spent the next while laughing and talking together, as if the real troubles outside of the ship were gone.

During dinner on another night we discussed that we, unfortunately, were going to have to make another stop soon as fuel, food, water, and other supplies were beginning to run low. While I cleaned up our evening meal, the men began to plan our stop, hopefully one of our last ones. We seemed to be getting much closer to safer Republic space than we were a couple weeks ago.

We ended up stopping days later and all seemed quiet, at least at first. But as Obi-Wan and I had just finished restocking the supplies and Dalton was in the small town trying to gleam any recent war information and such, I felt something come over me but couldn't place it, like I wasn't sure what was going on.

"What is it?" Obi-Wan obviously sensed I sensed something.

"I don't know but whatever it is I don't like it." I paused and took a deep breath, still trying to find where it was coming from, but it lay in the unreachable, as if it was slipping through my fingers. "I think I would feel better if we left as soon as possible."

"It would be more than likely for the best." Obi-Wan agreed as we left to go find Dalton.

A good handful of minutes later I was certainly feeling that we were in danger but nothing around us alluded to that but thankfully my husband trusted my instincts and there was no reason we would stay around here for much longer anyway. By the time we made it back to the ship, I was trying not to freak out and one word kept standing out to me. Dooku. I couldn't understand how I was possibly sensing the Sith lord who I had only met once but Obi-Wan who had fought him, more than once, did not sense anything amiss.

As the men began the preflight sequence, I huddled close by as if trying to hurry them up. A feeling of absolute urgency came over me. "Hurry, Dooku's coming."

The men looked at me in absolute shock as Dalton began lifting the ship up off the ground.

Obi-Wan kept glancing at me as he and Dalton discussed where to go next.

"Just plug something in, we need to get out of here, now." I interrupted them, not caring where we went, just needing to get out of here.

Obi-Wan knew I was being absolutely serious. "I think she may be right."

Dalton swung us around and suddenly several ships dropped out of hyperspace in front of us, one of them being Dooku's flag ship.

"Punch it." Obi-Wan ordered, his persona as a field general coming through.

Dalton quickly entered some coordinates that dropped from the computer and pulled the switch. The stars turned from bright orbs to blurry fields as we became safe.

I sat down in the seat, feeling relief at escaping from Dooku but still could not quite understand how I was sensing danger but my husband, the Jedi Master, did not.

By now Obi-Wan had turned to me. "How did you know?"

I looked at my husband, slowly shaking my head. "I don't know, it just came, it's almost like it wasn't even me…." I placed a hand on my middle, as it just dawned on me that it wasn't me, but maybe the baby. "I think it might have been the baby."

"Have you noticed the baby sensing things yet?" Obi-Wan asked as I saw Dalton turn and was watching us with obvious interest.

I shook my head. "The bond between us has been forming but I really haven't felt a clear response from it yet."

Dalton was now watching us in absolute shock. "You are what fifteen weeks pregnant and your kid is already using the Force?"

Obi-Wan shrugged. "It's not unheard of for force sensitive children from Force trained parents to at least start to feel simple things like our presences before they are born."

"You didn't even sense Dooku but the kid did?" Dalton still seemed to be shocked.

Obi-Wan gave a soft sigh. "I can't explain it." He glanced at me. "Unless it really was you and not the baby."

I shook my head. "It just felt different, I can't explain it." I rubbed my middle, feeling the baby, feeling it strong within, despite events of late.

Dalton still wore a look of absolute awe and amazement while Obi-Wan looked impressed but curious to how it happened and for the briefest of moments was that fatherly pride that I saw in his eyes?

Now that we were safe and it would be a while before we reached our destination, we spent some time sorting and putting away the supplies we bought. It was helpful to have something to do, to help keep my mind on something else besides the fact Dooku was probably tracking us.

"Meagan, you should get some rest." Obi-Wan broke into my thoughts as I was finishing cleaning the dishes a little later after we had eaten. "It's been a long day."

I tried to protest but both men insisted before Obi-Wan took me back to our room. After getting into more comfortable clothes, I settled onto the cot. "Are you going to join me?" I asked my husband as he pulled several blankets around me, remembering how I always got cold on ships.

He shook his head. "Not yet, I need to meditate." He leaned down gently kissing me. "I'll stay close by in case you need anything."

I watched as he lowered the lights and settled in a corner on the floor. I did not want to admit that my husband was right especially as I fell asleep within a matter of minutes.

For the quote, we decided to go with My Fair Lady. In honor of its 55th anniversary some theatres were showing it this afternoon and we went. It was a lot of fun to watch it as it's been a while since we saw it. If you have not seen it, I would definitely do so! So here is one of our favorites from it.

Come on, Dover, move yer bloomin' arse!
