As Kouta expected, Lucy was sitting alone in a particularly dark corner of her room.
"Lucy..." Kouta prompts. The girl looks away from him.
"Kouta I..." She starts. "Kouta I... I... I have no excuse."
"I know. Even so, I'm not holding anything against you. What you did was wrong, you shouldn't have tortured that man, but its in the past and it'll stay there." Kouta says. "I know you wouldn't do anything like that again."
"Maybe so..." Lucy says, tension seemed to be taken off her voice, if only a little. "But the others..."
"They understand too! And if they don't I'll make them understand. We aren't all perfect Lucy. You've seen me do something I regret." Kouta argues. "And I'm sure the others have things they've done that they regret too."
"Nothing as bad as I've done." Lucy says. "You've seen me at my worst. I did a lot more of that before I... did what I did to you."
"Even so, its in the past. Your different now. I know that, and I'm willing to stand up with you should someone hold anything we see against you." Kouta declares.
"...alright." Lucy responds, finally getting up, though Kouta could tell her heart wasn't entirely in the response. Kouta grasps her hand which causes the girl to try to hide her blush.
"Come on. Lets get this over with."
"Nana..." Yuka starts. What does someone even say to someone who used to be chained naked to a wall and tortured who knows how. Even more so since said person was acting nonchalantly about it.
"You... you told me you were at a facility, but you never told me what they did to you there." Mayu takes over, the horror still in her voice.
"Oh... they shot these heavy metal balls at me to test the strength of my vectors." Nana explains. "Sometimes they would be too heavy and get through. It hurt a lot and made me bleed. I'm sorry if the sight of my blood makes you uncomfortable."
"That man... you called your papa..." Yuka tries to say.
Nana's eyes widen as if remembering something. "Oh no! I promised papa I wouldn't tell you about that but I did it again!" She cries out.
'Thats why she was so reclusive.' Yuka realizes. By then, Kouta and Lucy return.
"Everyone ready to continue?" He nervously asks.
"Yes!" Nana exclaims before anyone can objects.
It starts back on Kouta midway through changing Nyu. He can only stare with disbelief at Yuka who was also there.
Kouta: No! Look! Its not what you think. Nyu's clothes were wet and she can't change herself.
Yuka only huffs and moves to the table.
Kouta: So, you see...
Yuka places a key on the table.
Yuka: Here's the key to the house. I'll leave it on the table.
After a few moments with her back turned, Yuka finally faces Kouta with a smile on her face.
Yuka: I'm happy. Nyu seems to be doing fine.
Lucy raises an eyebrow at this. What was Yuka playing at reacting like that?
Kouta: Yuka, hold on! This isn't-
Yuka: It looks like I'm interrupting. I'll just be going.
"You could've at least let him explain himself." Lucy harshly says.
"You could've put Bando out of his misery rather than torture him." Yuka bites back. Lucy looks away, hurt by this.
"That was low, Yuka." Kouta says.
Kouta: What are you imply?!
Kouta chases after Yuka as she leaves.
Kouta: Wait a second! At least give me a chance to explain.
Yuka finally stops, allowing Kouta to put a hand on her shoulder. Nyu peaks her head out of the doorway, listening in.
Kouta: Like I said, you misunderstood.
A moment of silence passes.
Yuka: Hey Kouta...
Kouta: Hm?
Yuka: Do you remember the festival? The one we always went to when we were kids? Do you remember?
Lucy has to convince her rapidly pounding heart that what she feared was going to be revealed, wouldn't be revealed. At least, not yet anyway.
"Festival?" Nana questions.
"Yeah. Kamakura holds a festival every year." Yuka explains. "We last saw each other during a festival eight years ago."
"Would you like to go when the next one comes around?" Mayu asks her friend.
"Yeah I would!" Nana exclaims with glee.
Kouta: The festival? What are you talking about? Come one, that hardly seems important right now.
Yuka turns around and slaps him.
Everyone in the room recoils at the slap.
Lucy tries to keep herself from slapping Yuka in a similar fashion... with a vector.
"Why did you do that!" Mayu exclaims. "It was strange to bring up the festival anyways, it was a valid question!"
Yuka can only turn red in embarrassment. "I'm sorry... I... I was out of control."
Yuka: You jerk!
Kouta stares back wide eyed, hand on his cheek.
Kouta: Yuka...
Yuka: Ever since... I've been... I've been...
Kouta: Yuka.
Yuka: Your such a jerk!
With that, Yuka storms out.
Kouta: Yuka hold on!
With that, Kouta goes after her until she leaves the house.
Kouta: What was all that about?
Mayu and Nana also have a similar question going through there head, but Lucy on the other hand, 'I know Yuka has feelings for him, but how does slapping him and not letting him explain himself help her in her obvious romantic pursuit?' She wonders. "True, I was prickly when I first met Kouta, but If I were in Yuka's shoes, I would at least hear him out on what he has to say.'
Kouta then clutches himself and shivers.
Kouta: I just a chill down my spine.
Nyu can only watch.
Kouta: I wonder if I'm getting sick.
Nyu: Nyu...
Cut to show Kurama in a completely bright room. Chains can be heard rattling. Cut to show the naked and bloodied Nana he is looking down on.
Nana: Its you papa! It's really you!
Nana tries to get closer to him but is restrained by the chains she has on.
'How can she see that man as her father?' Mayu thinks. 'Everything that the scene implies was done to her, was probably done by this man. Shouldn't she absolutely hate this Kurama person?' Then again, Nana wasn't exactly a hateful person. 'Even so, why liken her torturer as her father? Had he been manipulating her or something?'
As Nana continues to struggle, Kurma moves closer to take off her chains. Nana looks to her newly freed hands.
"Uh, why didn't you just use your powers to cut the chains?" Kouta asks her.
"Papa explained that the chains are made of a metal that is hard for vectors to cut through." Nana explains. "I think he called it tugston."
"Tungsten." Lucy corrects. "From what I've heard, our vectors take more time to cut through materials like tungsten and platinum."
"Must be because those materials have a high density." Yuka adds.
"Perhaps, though we can still cut through them with enough time." Lucy says.
Kurama: Nana, I'm here to ask for help.
Cut to show Yuka resting at a desk that is presumably her room. She pulls out a nearby box and opens it revealing a bunch of rice cutouts. Sounds of the festival from eight years ago can be heard as it flashes back, showing people walking among the various stalls during the night.
Lucy had to work on calming herself down again, knowing the murders weren't going to be shown. 'I need to get a grip. Every time it flashes back to it I start to panic.'
Little Yuka tries cutting a rice cut out only for it to crack.
Flashback Yuka: Oh no! It cracked!
Flashback Kouta: Wow, you suck at this.
"I never mentioned this last time, but you and Yuka were cute when you little." Nana says.
"Oh, um... thanks?" Kouta awkwardly replies.
Flashback Yuka: Yeah? Let me see you do it.
Flashback Kouta: Okay.
Kouta gets to work on a rice cut out of a cat. Yuka watches as he flawlessly cuts it out.
Flashback Kouta: There. Finished.
Flashback Yuka: Its so good. Its perfect.
Flashback Kouta: Big deal, anybody can do it.
"I never knew you had a smug side to you as a kid." Lucy says.
"Yeah, I guess I was kind of bratty back then." Kouta replies. Lucy was about to say she didn't feel that from him back when they played together, but wisely ate her words.
Yuka tries again only for it to crack again.
Flashback Yuka: Oh, it cracked again!
Flashback Kouta: You're such a spaz. Get it right once and I'll do whatever you tell me.
Yuka pokes her finger into Kouta's cheek,
Flashback Yuka: Don't act like you're so cool. Just you wait, next time you see me, I'll be able to do it no problem. Then you'll be sorry.
Flashback Kouta: Well, keep practicing and I guess we'll see what happens.
Flash back to the present.
Flashback Yuka: And when I get it, you better believe I'll make you do whatever I say. I'm serious!
Flashback Kouta: Don't worry, I'll remember.
Yuka grabs handfuls of the rice cut outs and cries into them.
Yuka's face heats up at the scene
"You weren't upset cause I didn't remember that silly bet, right?" Kouta asks.
"Idiot. Of coarse not." Yuka harshly replies.
Yuka: I can't believe it. I'm so stupid.
Cut back to show Shirakawa and another scientist looking into the room that holds Nana and Kurama.
Nana: What do you want? I'll do anything you want, just ask me Papa!
Shirakawa: Why does she call him papa? Number 7 isn't really Chief Kurama's daughter is she?
Nana's smile falls at being reminded of that fact. If she really was his biological daughter, would he have avoided killing himself?
The three humans meanwhile, are disgusted with the woman continuously referring to Nana by a number rather than her name.
Isobe: Of coarse not. She's been locked in here since she was born. Her life has been spent enduring experiments worse than torture. To stay alive she needed some kind of support. Someone to convince her it all mean't something.
Shirakawa: And you're saying that support came from Chief Kurama?
Isobe: She believed the Chief was her father and she did everything she could to love up to his expectations. So far thats kept her alive. Without something to strive for, she would have gone insane long ago.
'Thats why she keeps referring to that man as her father and why she isn't fazed by all of this.' Yuka realizes. She looks to see Nana's slightly depressed face. 'She must have learned that Kurama wasn't her biological father and being reminded must have hurt her in some way.' Though, Yuka could not fathom how Nana could still love that man like a father now that she is able to live as a normal human being.
'Kouta felt like he could throw up at Nana's treatment. "Experiments worse than torture", and not only that but she was emotionally manipulated her whole life. 'If only those scientists could look inward and see who the real monsters are.'
Mayu was saddened for her friend. That was the only life she could remember before she met up with the rest of them? Her childhood, rather than going out, making friends, having fun, and learning basic life skills was spent strapped down in a cold laboratory and hurt day in and day out? This thought made Mayu want to cry.
Lucy wasn't better off either, though she admired Nana for not becoming a monster despite all of that which she went though. 'She's clearly a stronger person than I am.' Then again, she didn't know if living your life in constant misery was better than knowing there was happiness out there but only once you got it, it was ripped away from you.
Shirakawa can only sigh at this.
Isobe: Number 7 is remarkably obedient. And has never turned her vectors against humans. I suppose she's a unique case.
Kurama: There's a person I need you to kill.
Nana can only stare back until she lowers her head.
Nana: I... I can't kill anyone.
Kurama: The target is a Diclonius like you Nana.
Nana's head shoots upright.
Nana: What?!
Kurama: A Diclonius has escaped. Diclonius have a natural ability to sense each other. Only you will be able to find her.
"Wait, is that true?" Kouta asks.
"Yeah. Whenever Nana is nearby I can sense her emotions to some degree." Lucy says.
"That sounds pretty cool, but doesn't it get annoying sometimes?" Kouta asks. "Having those alien emotions swirling through your head and your brain constantly reminding you that someone is nearby."
"After awhile, you learn to ignore it when its still there." Lucy explains.
Nana's eyes widen.
Nana: I think I can find her. But I could never kill her.
Kurama: Then just locate her. I'll arrange for you to contact me when you've found her.
Nana: Papa?
Nana's head is looking down again, her bangs covering her eyes.
Nana: Is this person somebody thats making trouble for you?
Kurama: Yes and you're the only one who can help me.
Nana then covers her face and begins crying for a little.
'This is so fucked up.' The humans think.
Nana: Really? Really? Then, I won't let you down!
Kurama then storms out of the room and past Shirakawa and Isobe.
Kurama: You have a day. Get her ready for combat.
Cut back to the morning at Maple Inn. Kouta holds up a thermometer.
Kouta: 39 degrees? Oh crap.
Nyu: Nyu...
Kouta: Don't worry I'll be fine as long as I stay in bed. You should worry about putting on some underwear.
The shot switches to show Nyu's ass.
Lucy can only sigh at this. "Who ever made this sure likes to show off our privates. And it seems I'm the favourite."
"Its like an anime with all the fan-service." Yuka says. "If anything, I find that the most disturbing thing. That someone is looking at our lives as if it is an anime."
Nyu: Nyu?
Kouta: Its morning already? I wonder what time it is.
Kouta starts to breath more heavily as he feels hotter.
Nyu: Nyu! Nyu!
Kouta: Water.
Nyu: Nyu?
Kouta: Do you think you can bring me some water?
Nyu: Nyu?
Kouta: I said water okay? Uh, you have no idea what I'm saying.
Nyu: Wa- ter?
Kouta: Uh, right. Think you can get me some water?
Nyu stands up and gains a look of determination.
Nyu: Nyu!
Nyu then runs out of the room to the left before running back to the right. Noises of all sorts are heard as if things are being dropped and tossed around.
Both Mayu and Nana are able to suppress their humour to quite giggles. Yuka also finds the situation quite funny.
Kouta can only stare ahead as the noise ensues until it stops and the sound of footsteps getting closer takes its place. Nyu quickly runs back beside him, kneels down and presents Kouta with a lone slipper.
Nyu: Nyu.
Mayu and Nana can't hold it in any longer and start laughing out loud. Even Yuka is quietly giggling at the events.
"I guess it is kinda funny." Lucy admits, strangely not feeling so embarrassed.
A moment of silence...
Kouta: Thank you for trying.
That just makes everyone laugh harder.
Kouta: Anyway, its the thought that counts right?
Cut to show Yuka standing outside the Inn. She looks down as she places a bag at the front door before walking away. The door then opens up revealing Nyu. She looks around before spotting Yuka.
Nyu: Nyu.
Yuka doesn't look back.
Yuka: Its not like I came to see you Kouta. I just brought some clothes for Nyu.
Kouta can only sigh at his cousins behaviour. It was exhausting with how petty she could be when she was angry.
Nyu then quickly runs up to her and grabs Yuka by the arm, tugging her toward the house.
Nyu: Water! Water!
Yuka: Whats the matter?
Cut to show Yuka wringing out a rag in a bowl of water. She places the rag on Kouta's head.
Yuka: You're really sick, you should go to the hospital.
"Um, pardon me for saying, but I don't think its that bad." Mayu says.
"It wasn't." Kouta says.
"I was just worried." Yuka says, slightly raising her voice.
Kouta: Please, I'm not going to a hospital.
Yuka: Kouta... Whats all that stuff?
The shot shows lots of different stuff littered around Kouta.
Yuka: Were you unpacking or something.
"Well... someone was." Yuka mutters to herself.
Kouta: Yuka?
Yuka: Huh?
Kouta: Yesterday you were talking about the festival.
Yuka: Don't worry about it.
Kouta: You know I don't remember much about it. Not long after the least time we said goodbye things got kinda tough for me. Only a few days after we left, my dad died in a car accident.
Yuka: What?
Kouta: And then Kanae started getting sick, it was just one terrible thing after another. I wonder if thats the reason...
Lucy can only shrink into herself with feelings of guilt for being the cause of his pain.
'Does he still believe that?' Yuka thinks. 'Does he still not know that uncle and Kanae were murdered right in front of him?'
Yuka looks down.
Kouta: Whats wrong?
Yuka: But that day, you your dad and little Kanae were... on the train. I stood there and watched you guys get on.
Kouta: What? I can't hear what you're saying.
Yuka: Its nothing. I'm not saying anything.
Kouta: Yuka...
Yuka takes the bowl of water and leaves.
Nyu: Nyu?
Yuka: I'll get some fresh water.
Cut to show a lone petal coming through the open door as running water is heard. Yuka looks down as the water continues to run.
Yuka: I get it now. Kouta doesn't remember anything about that day. Thats why...
Yuka starts to cry again.
"If you don't mind me asking, what was so good about that day that made you cry when you found out I couldn't remember?" Kouta asks.
"Its just the last day we saw each other before meeting up. I would have liked you to have remembered that is all." Yuka says. Kouta looks unconvinced but remains silent.
Cut to a medical room in the institute with Bando and Kurama.
Bando: Don't give me that crap! You think I'm gonna let you castrate me! You stupid fuck! Haven't I had enough cut off already!
It shows Bando's arms or whats left of them completely wrapped in bandages. He continues to struggle
Kurama: I do sympathize, but without this operation you're going to die on that table.
"What is he talking about?" Yuka asks, slightly panicked. If Bando was fine here, why did he need to be castrated? And if he didn't it would kill him?! What was going on?
"He's exaggerating. I'm sure he'll explain it soon." Lucy assures.
Bando: What are you tellin me?! I almost died once already now you're giving me this shit!
Kurama: The fate of man kind depends on it.
'Thats quite the exaggeration.' Yuka thinks. 'Unless he isn't exaggerating and Lucy was downplaying it for some reason.'
Bando: Argh are you frickin retarded!
He struggles enough to knock over a bottle of some liquid.
Bando: What does the fate of my balls have to do with the fate of man kind?! No first tell me, who was that bitch with the horns. And what are those hands! ...tell me... that girl, what was she? How did she beat me?
Kurama walks towards one of the walls.
Kurama: We call her kind the Diclonius.
Bando: Diclo-
Kurama: A genetically altered human. A mutant.
Bando: She... was human?
'I wish.' Lucy pessimistically thinks.
The lights shut off and some x-rays are shown on the wall. Diclonius horns visible on the skull.
Kurama: As you know, the mutation is marked by a pair of protrusions growing from the skull. But the crucial mutation is those extra hand you encountered.
Bando: You're kidding right? Or are you saying they're born equipped with those insane freaking weapons.
Kurama: Those were her vectors. Or receptors depending on the context. We don't know much about how vectors develop yet. We know they posses extraordinary speed. They vibrate at such a high frequency that they can cut through objects. But we don't believe that they're intended primarily to function as weapons.
Bando: What.
Kurama: In the past, individuals with this genetic abnormality died in infancy or could not reproduce. Your target has proven herself to be exceptionally adaptable. Once she started developing, we expected certain things of her. Environmental acclimation, the mastery of her vectors, but now she's found a way to reproduce although its very different from the normal human methods.
The humans lean forward, curious to how Diclonius reproduction differs.
Lucy meanwhile raises an eyebrow. Kurama was explaining this very poorly. Although she can spread the virus with her vectors, as the queen she can also bear children just like any other person.
Bando: What are you telling me?
Kurama walks back up to the man.
Kurama: She uses her vectors to spread a kind of genetic infection.
The humans skin pale at this revelation.
Bando: I- what?
Kurama: You see, her genetic future depends entirely on the end of man kind as we know it.
"Wha- what! Infection!" Yuka exclaims.
"Are we going to be okay." Mayu worries.
Kouta meanwhile, isn't too worried. The professors assistant explained this to him, saying it was a highly contagious disease that caused one to grow horns. That didn't sound so bad. Would the infected get vectors too? He shudders at the thought of Bando gaining such weapons. 'I'm really against killing anyone really, but for the good of all, I hope Lucy killed him after he tried to kill us on the bridge.
"Don't worry Mayu. You're going to be fine." Nana assures her friend.
"What does the virus do? Why would we have to be sterilized to avoid dying!" Yuka panics. "Please tell us we're not infected. I want to have kids some day w-" She cuts herself off before she can say with Kouta.
Lucy looks down guilty. Truthfully, she had forgotten about the fact that she had touched the others with her vectors at one point. Mayu when she was fighting Nana, Yuka when they were at the shrine, and Kouta... She hadn't actually touched him with her vectors but that didn't mean Nana might not have.
Yuka takes Lucys guilty look as her answer. "Oh my God. We have to get sterilized or die. Why would you do this to us!" She yells at Lucy, tearing up slightly.
"C-calm down. You aren't going to die." Lucy assures.
"Yeah! But because of you, we won't be able to have children of our own should we want it!" Yuka screams.
"Please stop yelling!" Nana exclaims. "You won't die and you can still have children." Yuka decides to listen.
"Kurama was explaining the situation poorly." Lucy says. "Its true that contact with our vectors will cause a genetic infection." Yuka's jaw tightens as she furiously stares Lucy down. "Its not lethal if you don't do anything about it."
"Then, what does it do?" Mayu asks.
Lucy sighs, preparing herself to give them horrible news. "Once you're infected with the virus, any children you bear will be a Diclonius."
Kouta perks up at this, so the infection was different from what he thought. Still... "So, if say, Mayu has a child with some one, you will in someway, be its mother?"
Lucy shakes her head. "I don't think it works like that. As far as I know, it only makes them a Diclonius and we don't pass on any of our other genetic traits."
"But Kurama said you can't reproduce how we can." Yuka brings up. "He implied that that infection thing was how you did it."
"Thats correct, but only for sipilets." Lucy says.
"Sipilets?" Mayu questions.
"Yes. Papa told me I'm a sipilet. That means I can't make children." Nana explains. "But Lucy is different."
"Different how?" Yuka asks. All eyes turn to her. She sighs again. Preparing herself.
"I'm different because I'm the Diclonius queen. Meaning I can bear children as you or anyone else could." Lucy explains.
"You're... a queen?" Kouta questions.
"In a sense. The Diclonius are like bees. The sipilets are the workers and can only be born by vector infected humans as females. They are also born sterile. As the queen I'm the only one capable of bringing more fertile Diclonius into this world." Lucy explains. She refuses to meet their faces after her explanation. "Thats all I know." She meekly replies.
Kouta's eyes widen at the information. Lucy was carrying the weight of her entire species on her shoulders. Should something happen to her, her entire race would die out. 'But Diclonius don't have to rely on the extinction of mankind to thrive. The sipilets might be a problem since they can't reproduce, culling humanity's numbers down significantly, but if thats the case, all the s have to do is not infect anyone. Then through Lucy, she can make a family and her children can go out and make family's of their own, thereby increasing the Diclonius numbers without negatively effecting humanity. This is of course if they keep their vectors to themselves wether it be killing or infecting, but I'm sure Lucy would discipline any sons or daughters she might have to keep hands off anyone.'
Yuka takes this news differently. "So if I were to have a daughter, as surely I can't have a son anymore, she won't be able to make a family of her own?"
"I'm sorry." Lucy offers.
"Humans end up sterile for one reason or another. That doesn't stop them from having family's. They could always adopt." Mayu brings up.
"What is adopt?" Nana asks.
"I'll explain it to you later Nana." Mayu assures.
"Does it matter? Human or Diclonius, fertile or sterile, I would love any son or daughter I have just the same." Kouta says.
"I guess you're right, Kouta." Yuka relents.
Scene cuts to a sleeping Kouta. He awakens to find Yuka starring at him a little too close.
Yuka: Feeling better?
Kouta sits up.
Kouta: Well, I think I'm feeling much better.
Yuka moves some of his hair away and stares directly into his eyes almost at the point where they are kissing.
"What are you doing?" Nana asks.
"I was just checking if he still had a fever." Yuka tells her.
Yuka: It looks like your fever is all gone.
Kouta: Where's, uh, Nyu?
Yuka backs away and looks to the doorway. Kouta follows and there stands Nyu with some new clothes on as well as a silly green hat.
Nyu: Nyu!
Yuka: I dressed her up in some of my clothes. And what are you gonna do about Nyu? Do you think we should call the police?
Kouta: What! We can't do that!
Yuka: Kouta.
Kouta: Well, look all I'm trying to say is if she wants to stay here it doesn't seem right to force her to leave. It'd be rude you know.
Yuka expression turns to one of angered suspicion.
Yuka: Really?
Kouta: B-b-but theres definitely nothing weird going on, okay?
"Given how you worded it, you can't blame me for being a little suspicious." Yuka says.
"I guess not." Kouta agrees.
Yuka: Here's the thing, I've been doing a lot of thinking about this.
Kouta: Hmm?
Yuka: And I don't think its really a good idea for you and Nyu to live here all by yourself.
Kouta: Yeah... well... but, like I said-
Yuka: So I decided to live here too. I'm moving in.
Kouta: Huh!
Yuka: Besides, you've got plenty of room.
Cut to the outside of the island facility where a helicopter awaits.
Nana: I've never worn this kind of dress.
Nana twirls around.
Nana: Papa, does it look good on me? Does it?
Kurama: Nana, I'm counting on you.
Nana runs up to Kurama, smiling.
Nana: I know! I'll do my best for you, papa. And all I want is a pat on the head if I do a good job.
Mayu is shocked by her friends eagerness to help Kurama. 'She must really love him as though he were a father. If we came to her about accusations of emotional manipulation or anything of the sort it would just anger her.' She thought. It was probably best to just leave that alone.
Kurama: Of coarse, but if you think the job is too hard, I want you to stop the mission immediately. Be sure to come back.
Nana nods.
Nana: Papa, I've got a favour to ask you.
Kurama: Hmm?
The scene cuts to show the helicopter taking off.
Shirakawa: So Lucy, if she's still in Kamakura, #7 should have no problem finding her. But #7 has no chance of defeating Lucy in combat.
Kurama: No matter. Her death may save lives we'd lose in a random search.
Nana slightly feels surprise at her papa's willingness to throw her life away. Then she remembers that it was to save lives. 'I would have died if papa wanted me to. If I died to save lives, as long as it made him happy, I would be okay with it.'
Everyone else however is disturbed by his words.
'Still a bastard as ever I see.' Lucy thinks.
Cut to Yuka's room in the Maple Inn as she is unpacking.
Yuka: Oh thats right.
The camera shows inside on of the boxes is the music box.
Cut to show Kouta cleaning the floor as Nyu watches him.
Kouta: Yuka's such a slave driver isn't she. I'm still sick, but she doesn't care.
"What was that Kouta." Yuka gives him a mean look.
"Well, you see- um." Kouta stutters
"You were well enough to do chores." She firmly states.
Kouta: But you know, living with a girl it could be kind of cool.
Yuka: Kouta.
Kouta looks behind himself to see Yuka crouched behind him.
Yuka: What were you fantasizing about, huh?
Kouta: Uh nothing!
Kouta hurries away from her to clean other part of the floor.
Kouta: I wasn't thinking anything.
Nyu crawls up to Yuka.
Nyu: Nyu nyu.
She makes a swirling motion with her hand.
Yuka: You want to help us clean, is that it Nyu?
Nyu: Nyu!
Yuka places the music box down.
Yuka: Then you just wait right here. I'll go get you a rag.
Whimsical music starts playing.
Kouta faces reddens considerably. 'Why does it have to show this.'
Lucy eyes Kouta's reddened face with suspicion. Just what did her other persona do now?
Nyu rushes back to Kouta's side.
Kouta: You're getting your own. Yuka's going to bring you one.
Nyu gets closer trying to watch Kouta clean causing him to accidentally bump her breast with his elbow.
Nyu: Nyu!
The two jump away from each other, Nyu covering her chest.
Kouta: Shoot. I'm sorry.
Nyu's blushes as she looks at Kouta. She then takes his hand as Kouta watches.
Kouta: What? What are you doing?
She then plants it back on her breast. She then rubs up against Kouta, forcing him to further feel her breast.
Nyu: Nyu.
Kouta, completely red in the face can only look down. 'Whats with this show embarrassing us?'
Nana can only look at the scene questionably. "Is Nyu trying to get Kouta to tickle her?" Thats what Nyu did when she touched her chest.
"No. Nyu didn't know it, but you aren't supposed to do that. Especially with a boy." Mayu tells her.
Lucy can only sigh at her others behaviour. 'Way to make Kouta feel uncomfortable, Nyu.' She thinks. Through having her breasts touched probably what felt good to her which was why she wanted it to continue. 'I'll have to find a way to make it up to him.'
Nyu: Nyu. nyu. ny-nyu! Nyu! Nyu.
Kouta: You want me to squeeze it?
Kouta facepalms so hard, everyone can hear the slap. "Why did I say that?" He mumbles barely audible to himself.
"D-don't worry. I don't blame you for that situation." Lucy tells him. 'I wouldn't mind him touching me like that, but... but its never going to happen.'
Kouta starts lightly squeezing.
Nyu: Ny- nyu!
Kouta: I wonder who would have taught her to do this?
"You are! Right now!" Mayu exclaims.
"Mayu?" Nana questions.
"No Nana, she's right. I don't know what I was thinking." Kouta admits.
Yuka: Well well...
Kouta looks to the side to see Yuka.
Yuka: A love affair. Isn't that just terrific.
Kouta: It wasn't me! I swear! Nyu started it!
A slapping sound can be heard as the screen focuses on some flowers.
"That one you did deserve." Yuka tells him.
"No argument here." Kouta agrees.
Cut to a bit later where Yuka is putting her shoes on at the front door.
Yuka: I'm going shopping.
Kouta sighs. a slap mark present on his cheek.
Kouta: Glad she didn't punch me.
Before Yuka steps out the door she turns to Kouta with a look on her face.
Yuka: Try keeping your hands off Nyu. Okay?
Yuka's expression along with her statement was enough to get a chuckle out of Mayu.
Kouta: Of coarse!
With that she leaves. Cut to show her walking away from the Inn passing by Mayu and Wanta.
Mayu: I'm sure. That place is around here.
She looks at the umbrella's handle to where it says "Kaede house" on it. Wanta starts barking in the direction of the Inn. The two continue to the front door.
Mayu: Is this it?
She opens the front door.
Mayu: Hello?
Nyu appears.
Nyu: Nyu?
Mayu: Excuse me. Sorry to bother you.
Nyu: Huh?
Mayu: The things is, at the beach...
Kouta: What is it? What'd you forget?
Kouta then appears alongside Nyu.
Mayu: Uh, well you see... I found an umbrella, and the name of this restaurant was written on the handle.
Kouta: Oh. Thanks for bring it back. The thing is, I found it in Uigahama(probably spelled that wrong) the night before last.
Kouta: The night before last!
Mayu: Um, yes.
Kouta: Do you remember seeing anyone that night!
"Geez. Calm down, you probably scared her." Yuka says.
"Right." Kouta then turns to Mayu. "Sorry about that."
"You don't need to apologize. I understand." Mayu says.
Mayu: Uh, there was this man who looked like a soldier.
Kouta: Hey, I'd really like to ask you some questions about what you saw that night.
Mayu: What?
Cut again to later where Yuka arrives at the front of Maple Inn where Wanta is resting. She easily notices the dog.
Yuka: Huh?
Cut to where she is at the front door.
Yuka: Who's here?
It shoes Mayu's shoes.
Cut again to Yuka at the door way to the dinning room. She drops her bag.
Yuka: Another girl...
Kouta: Yuka, this girl she was there that night, she saw everything that happened!
Yuka: What night is that?
Cut to show Nyu cleaning the floors happily.
Nyu: Nya nyu nyu. Nyu nyu nyu Nya?
She looks to the music box Yuka left behind. Nyu picks it up and begins inspecting every angle of it. She then stands up.
Lucy dimly wonders if Nyu had unconscious access to her memories or something and that why she was drawn in by the music box.
Cut to Kouta angrily pounding the table.
Kouta: Just like I always thought. The detective at the hospital, he knew about the soldier all along.
Cut to Nyu still looking at the box.
Yuka: You were attacked by a soldier? What? Why didn't you tell me?
Nyu steps on her wet rag and she slips, dropping the music box.
Nyu: Nyaaaaaaaa!
In the dinning room, the others hear the impact.
Kouta, Yuka, and Mayu: Huh?!
The music box plays as Lucy sits up and holds her head as the other three enter.
Kouta: Oh no. The water spilled all over the place. Nyu, are you alright? What happened? Did you hurt your self.
Yuka: Whats up?
Lucy gets to her feet, her face covered in shadows.
Kouta: She scared me. That music...
Yuka: She dropped the music box.
Lucy quickly turns around and deploys her vectors aimed at Kouta. But before they can make it to Kouta, his face shifts to a younger version of himself crying.
Flashback Kouta: No! Please stop!
Lucy is sent into a neat panic attack at the sight. She didn't think THAT would be hinted at this early. Theres also the fact at seeing a crying younger Kouta again. After the night she killed his family, that panicked face and desperate cries never left her nightmares.
Yuka is completely shocked at this turn of events. 'Was that Kouta but about the same age he was when we last saw each other? He and Lucy knew each other?! No, that can't be it. That boy must just look a lot like Kouta. Maybe thats why Nyu was so attached to him.' She thinks, the fact that Lucy almost tried to kill Kouta clearly forgotten.
Kouta meanwhile observes both Lucy's wide eyed and panicked expression and Yuka in deep thought.
"Why did you try to attack Kouta." Mayu demanded. Lucy didn't respond. Kouta had to shake the woman out of her daze.
"Huh? Wha-" Lucy comes back.
"Mayu was just asking..." Kouta said.
"O-oh. Yeah?" Lucy nervously asks.
The terrified look on Lucy's face was enough to convince Mayu to not bother with her question, considering what was happening when the girl was last in control, of coarse she would be jumpy to say the least. "Never mind, its a stupid question."
Lucy goes wide eyed and her vectors stop to hover around Kouta.
Kouta unconsciously shivered at the idea that her vectors were once all around himself without him being the wiser. Even more so that she almost killed him. 'But she'd never do that then and especially not now.'
She retracts her vectors.
Lucy: Kouta...
This derails Yuka's other boy theory. 'Wait, so Kouta and Lucy knew each other?! It can't be a coincidence that a boy that looked just like Kouta would also share the same name. I get that Kouta wouldn't know of it given his amnesia, but why has Lucy never mentioned it? If they were friends once, surely she would have told him so even if he didn't remember. Or... maybe they did and it was kept private. But then how did the two meet?' Lucy has always been tight lipped about her past and whenever it was brought up it would either make her feel down or just put her in a bad mood. 'Maybe the two met at the mental hospital?' She was throwing around theories at this point, trying to make sense of all of it.
Mayu had her own. 'Maybe Lucy was there when Kouta's family was murdered on the train. She was a survivor of the killer just like him and that scene of him cry was him begging the killer to stop while Lucy was with him.' That was all she had. She didn't have any of the details surrounding the death of Kouta's father and sister, so that was the best she could come up with.
Nana was completely lost on what this implicated. 'How did Lucy know Kouta's name and what he looked like when he younger?' She couldn't piece together and answer to that question.
Lucy wordless walks away as Yuka picks up the music box.
Kouta: Hey Nyu!
The sound of the door opening is heard.
Kouta: I really hope she is okay.
Yuka: Kouta, remember? Remember the song?
Kouta takes the music box from Yuka.
Kouta: Hmm. Lets see.
Mayu walks up to the two.
Mayu: The melody is beautiful.
Kouta shuts the box.
Yuka: I've been meaning to give this to you.
Kouta: To me?
Yuka: You left it at my house the last time you were here.
Kouta: I left it?
Yuka: Don't you remember?
Kouta: Um... I think I kind of remember. Huh?
Yuka seems to be giving Kouta an almost desperate look. Mayu can only watch the two. Wanta then begins barking.
Yuka: The dog out there? Is it yours?
Mayu: Uh, yeah. He's more of a friend I guess.
Yuka: He's your friend?
Mayu: I don't actually own him but we're always together so I guess we're friends.
Lucy is remind of her own canine companion she once had, whom she found under similar circumstances. 'Mayu and I are more alike then we realize.'
Cut back to the outside of Maple Inn where Lucy walks out. She glances at the still barking Wanta. The camera shows Lucy look at Wanta while a breaking sound is heard but Wanta is off the frame.
Nana immediately assumes the worst. "What did you do to Wanta!" She demands.
"Nothing. He's still here isn't he?" Lucy responds.
'So she cut his leash, but why?' Mayu thinks. Lucy didn't have anything against her dog, in fact, she seemed like a whole different person she was caring for Wanta. She was more happy. 'Maybe she just didn't like that fact he was leashed?' Though this explanation felt weak. Once, she fell sick with a cold and Nana was overly worried with her, so much that she refused to leave her side. Lucy had volunteered to walk Wanta that day and had no trouble with him on a leash.
Yuka: Looks like Nyu's taking a walk.
Kouta: She didn't have a problem finding this place last time. I'm sure she'll be fine. Besides, her horns are covered up.
Mayu: Horns?
Yuka: I bet he means hair.
Yuka laughs, Mayu weakly laughs along with her. Cut to the two returning the the front room.
Mayu: Okay, I guess I'll be leaving.
Mayu bows to Yuka. Kouta appears.
Kouta: Wait a second, you didn't tell us your name.
Mayu: Oh yeah... its Mayu.
Kouta: Do you mind if I could get your address or something, maybe some way to find you? Just incase of any questions I forgot to ask.
That spurs Nana's mind. 'Where was Mayu before she lived here? She couldn't have lived without a home for too long, right? Maybe that was exactly it.' Nana had forgotten to ask about Mayu's past and doing so now seemed pointless as it might be shown on the screen.
Mayu: Well... uh... I... Um...
Kouta and Yuka can only look on concerned.
Mayu: I've got to go.
With that, the girl rushes out. Cut to a panicked Mayu outside the house.
Mayu: Oh no! Oh no Wanta! Wanta! Wanta!
Mayu begins quickly looking around for the dog
Mayu: Wanta!
Barking is heard and Wanta runs towards its friend.
Mayu: Wanta. Wanta.
Mayu picks the dog up and brings it to her face which he licks.
Mayu: I'm so glad. I thought even you left me this time.
The two look to the cut leash.
"Uh- sorry for making you panic." Lucy sheepishly apologizes. "I... um... had a lot on my mind when I cut his leash."
Mayu: Wanta you promise you aren't going to leave me or anything?
Wanta barks in response.
Cut back to Yuka and Kouta.
Kouta: Nyu's been gone awhile.
A moment of silence.
Kouta: Wait here. I'm going to go check on her.
Yuka doesn't respond, only continuing to look down.
Kouta: Whats wrong now?
Yuka: Always. I'd always meant to give you this when you came back. I kept it for you.
Kouta: Oh I see, thanks, well anyway we should check on Nyu.
Yuka: So, have you forgotten everything?
Kouta: What?
Yuka: Hey, Kouta...
Kouta: Yeah, what is it?
Yuka: Do you think about... touching my breasts too?
Kouta: Huh?!
"Huh?!" Mayu repeats.
"Mayu, I thought you said we weren't supposed to let other people touch our breasts?" Nana questions.
"You're not." She firmly tells her friend. 'I knew Yuka was in love with Kouta but I never would have expected her saying something like this to Kouta.'
Lucy raises an eyebrow at Yuka's response. 'Really? Is she really so jealous of my other? Then again, I shouldn't judge. I've done worse.' She thought grimly.
Cut to show Nana on the stone stairs. She has a look of determination as she holds something in her hands.
Nana: Papa, I've got a favour to ask you.
Flashback to when Nana was with Kurama and Shirakawa.
Nana: Can I have the string from around your neck? I've always wanted it ever since I saw it.
Kurama wordlessly removes it and gives it to Nana.
Nana: Yay! Thank you papa! I'm going to make you so proud.
Flash back to the steps where Nana is tying the tie around her head.
Cut to Lucy who is sitting upon the steps. Footsteps can be heard.
Nana: Excuse me. Of coarse you knew I was coming. And I knew that you'd know.
Nana is show to also be carrying a paper bag.
Nana: I'm going to go home and you're going to come with me.
The episode ends.
Yuka looks to Lucy and Kouta, the former has a nervous expression on her face while the latter looks upon the former with worry. Asking Kouta of their previous connection would be fruitless as he didn't remember and Lucy would be less than forthcoming about those details. Luckily, the Dvds seemed like they would be able to answer those questions so she grabs at the remote without even asking if anyones ready to continue.
'This is it. This is when I mutilate Nana. They've seen me kill people who they've never even met, but what will they think of me when they see me literally tear someone in this very room limb from limb? Even Kouta doesn't know about that.' Lucy thinks. She misses Yuka press the play button.
