Chapter 6: This is the start of a new Journey
Good day to everyone reading, just a little announcement to make. I give my thanks to James Chong for leaving in a review; I am deeply moved by it because I know someone out there is reading what I write. So, I give my thanks to everyone who enjoyed the story.
Kold's POV
I have been training for over 10 months now, and I will probably guess that explaining what I did in those 10 months is rather boring, but the summary is that I intended to follow what the clans had said to me. At the brink of the morning, I try to summon any grade 0 units I could get my hands on, that is except the Kagero clan, but once in a while I try to summon Monica but that event led to another, not worth mentioning at all.
However, I think the Royal Paladin clan were nice enough to not really give me much of a problem other than them demanding that their friends and companions also be summoned, but I dealt with it by explaining that I did not have the necessary energy to summon every single one of their friends. While the Oracle Think Tank clan, was by far the hardest to get along with, they have different opinions on everything and it sometimes overlaps with my decisions, making it much harder for me to ask them what to do. But overall the experience is quite the conundrum; it really brought another meaning to the word 'social interaction'.
On the other hand, another problem started to occur and that was money… 'How the hell should I survive without money to buy things?' I thought and that problem could only be remedied by doing work that I am not quite fond of at all. Imagine I have school and work at the same time, on top of having to train my quirk, I've got a lot on my plate right now, and I respect those people who could manage their life in both doing school and work.
Luckily though I found a stash of money left by my mother in times of emergency, and these are times of emergency. To top it all off, I also found one of her ATM cards stashed into one of my drawers in my room, and just one ride away to the bank, and I am all set for the money problem. However, I still need to be responsible for using cash, it's my mother's hard-earned money after all I can't spend it recklessly. Now all I need to worry about are school works, training my quirk, and the entrance exam at UA.
I also have gone through the decks I had, and to sum it all I have 3 clans with a lot of different personalities and the list goes pretty long too. I expected to have all the cards in the clan but really I was proven wrong by the units and the internet. I didn't even have a fraction of the total clans of the card game. The cards on my deck are first the Oracle Think Tank, which has:
There were 4 Lozenge Magus, 2 Dream Eater, 2 Victory Maker, 2 Battle Sister Ginger, 4 Psychic Bird, and 1 God Hawk Ichibiyoshi and Little Witch Lulu for the Grade 0s.
For the Grade 1s I have, 2 Battle Sister Omelet, 3 Goddess of the Crescent Moon, 2 Battle Sister Cocao, 3 Battle Sister Chocolat, and 3 Dark Cat.
Grade 2s are 2 Silent Tom, 3 Goddess of the Half Moon, 2 Battle Maiden Tsugitsuhime, 2 Oracle Guardian Wiseman, 2 Red Eyes, and 2 Maiden of Libra.
Grade 3s were very powerful in their own right, there were 2 CEO Amaterasu, 3 Goddess of the Full Moon Tsukuyomi, 1 Meteor Break Wizard, and 2 Scarlett Witch Coco.
They were pretty much a straightforward clan, but they have their own strength if you can utilize each of them to your advantage. For the Royal Paladins are:
Grade 0s are 1 Barcgal, 4 Flogals, 4 Future Knight Llew, 2 Weapon Dealer Gavonan, 4 Ygdrasil Maiden Elaine, and 1 Brugal.
The Grade 1s are 2 Pongal, 3 Wingal, 3 Snogal, 3 Flash Shield Iseult, and 2 Knight Squire Allen.
Grade 2s are 2 High Dog Breeder Akane, 2 Knight of Silence Gallatin, 2 Knight of Loyalty Bedivere, 3 Blaster Blade, 2 Swordsman of the Blaze, and 2 Star Call Trumpeter.
The Grade 3s are powerful in their own right, there are 2 Alfred Early, 2 King of Knights Alfred, 2 Soul Saver Dragon, and 2 Swordsman of the Explosive Flames Palamedes.
Last but not the least, the most powerful clan I have at my disposal. Not that the others are not powerful, but in terms of raw power alone, this clan has the cake. The Kagero clan consisted of:
The Grade 0s are 1 Amber Dragon Dawn, 2 Gattling Claw Dragon, 2 Dragon Dancer Monica, 4 Embodiment of Spear Tar, 4 Flame Seed Salamander, and 1 Lizard Soldier Conroe.
Grade 1s are 3 Amber Dragon Daylight, 2 Demonic Dragon Mage Kimnara, 2 Iran Tail Dragon, 2 Flame of Hope Aermo, 2 Wyvern Strike Jarren, and 2 Wyvern Guard Barri.
Grades 2s are 3 Amber Dragon Dusk, 2 Berserk Dragon, 2 Blazing Core Dragon, 2 Dragon Knight Nehalem, 2 Dragon Knight Neshat, and 2 Wyvern Strike Tejas.
The Grade 3s are 2 Amber Dragon Eclipse, 2 Blazing Flare Dragon, 2 Dragonic Overlord, and 1 Vortex Dragon, and I mean that they are a pretty strong set of cards are just an understatement. And there are still other cards out there, but the good news is that I only need one copy to summon them. So, that's a bonus, I guess…
To tell it honestly, I have no idea how strong the Grade 3 units are. They're pretty much still waiting for me to be 'worthy'. I mean, first of all… they didn't give me a list of what to do. How should I even start? What should I start with? Is there a classification as to become someone worthy? Too many questions were running in my head, but all I know for certain is that it is still too early for me to summon any Grade 3 units. I just hope nothing bad happens at UA.
In the span of 10 months, I had finally figured something out about my quirk, the theory that my stamina gets depleted for summoning a grade higher than 0 is true; it really takes a lot out of me, and to add to the list are:
1. Is that, if I am not in tip-top shape or feeling under the weather, then summoning units takes a lot out of my stamina. But the plus side is that I have a pretty high immune system, so I don't often get sick.
2. Is that, the trigger units have special abilities that grant me and on some occasions, I can grant others too. Like for example upon using a draw trigger, which greatly enhances my speed and the plus side is that I can grant other people this trigger effect too, not just me. But I still fail to see how Stand Trigger affects other people.
3. The breakdown of each triggers effect are:
Draw Trigger – increases speed
Stand Trigger – improves their ability to cast their own enchantments
Critical Trigger – increases power or the raw power
Heal Trigger – heals one person of their injuries
4. Another neat thing I discovered is that each unit has its own abilities, not like the triggers in Grade 0 units, but their own unique abilities. Think of Battle Sister Cocoa's ability to see the top card of the deck. Each unit has its own special abilities, and it is quite amazing to actually witness too.
These 4 things are what I figured out, and I closely observed my weakness, and I think its backlash is my stamina, for the reason that nothing weird has happened to me while summoning them. Except for the time when I started to summon units in another grade, I started to feel much more lightheaded than usual or, sometimes I even pass out for an hour or so and that is according to the units I summoned during that time. However, another weakness is that when a lot is on my mind like stress and anxiety it gets hard to summon any units at my side, I think the reason behind it is that the game utilizes the power of imagination, and when I get too nervous or overwhelmed then I tend to lose that focus on summoning units.
The crucial part of my quirk is timing and the effective units I summon, for the reason that I still need to manage enough stamina to still be able to walk or run from anything that happens during a fight. 'I can't be someone who only relies on his quirk, I can't always let others fight my battle for me'
However, something did not really change during those 10 months and that is I still haven't received anything from my mother. The person, who contacted me regarding the disappearance of my mother, still hasn't contacted me. No new messages had been sent to me… and I was hoping that he should communicate too so that I can get a chance to talk with my mother even if it's a little bit.
The alarm had gone off, making me awake from my deep slumber, and I am telling you it is not a pleasant morning. 'Ugh… I had to become responsible because mom is not around anymore' it might be frustrating to think but I think this is for the best I guess… in that span of months that had passed, I thought that maybe mother had deliberately done this to get me to learn how to be a responsible individual. I quickly ignored that thought, but it is a possibility if you are talking about how my mother is…
"I guess it's time to prepare for breakfast…" I mumbled out while heaving a sigh out of my mouth. 'Oh… I almost forgot I think I need to summon some unit to keep up with my regime' I thought, scourging through my cards for a simple unit to summon...
I looked over at the calendar and I noticed something very important, 'Oh shit!' I almost forgot that this is the day of the exams. 'I better hurry up!' I thought paranoia started to occur in my mind. It's 6 in the morning and the exams start at exactly 8 and there is no excuse for tardiness for a famous hero school like UA.
I hurriedly changed my clothes into my uniform, and I didn't bother summoning any unit for now. I need to save energy during the practical exams, I know I did my training and I am a lot stronger in using my quirk now but it doesn't mean I can't save a little energy. The units will understand... hopefully.
I ran from my house with a toast in my mouth while speeding through the streets like a maniac running from someone who's after his life. 'This is going to be bad… if I arrive late there is no telling what will happen to my mother after this. So, to avoid that, I need to hurry like a cheetah running for its meal.
I arrived at the entrance of UA, with a lot of students walking to the exam hall 'This will be the start of my new journey of being a hero and I better do a good job' It's quite funny to think that I didn't even want to enter here 10 months ago, and now that I've trained for it, it doesn't really matter anymore. However, it does prove that training my quirk is rather fun and with the company of the other units, it felt like mother wasn't really gone at all.
I stopped at the entrance heaving a breath of relief that I made it in time; I heaved a full breath in and out to calm myself and get the much-needed air I needed while running to arrive here. 'Okay… this is the start of my job, this is going to determine if Mom will live or not… and I better do my best I thought in frustration and hatred started to surround my being. Just the thought of mother captured and being treated unfairly sets me off like a wildfire.
"Hey um…. Kold, everything all right with you?" someone suddenly spoke out of nowhere, and my earlier thoughts had dispersed like a bubble.
I offered a smile "I am alright, something is just in my mind" I replied to him.
"If you say so…" he said, reluctant with my answer, but there is nothing more to say to him. It is agreed upon that no one will know about the situation of my mother and me.
"Hate to be leaving when we are already here, but I need to focus on the exam Midoriya… I am sorry but I am going inside first" I said to the green-haired boy, and when he heard me he became another fumbling man embarrassing himself in the process.
"Oh… Yeah! Y-yeah! I hate to be bothering you during this important time!" he said in fright and it is a sight to see him fumbling his word like talking to his crush or something.
I decided to ignore his fumbling moments, it might be enjoyable to watch but this is not the time to have that luxury. 'I need to focus on this exam… it is life or death after all. Not for me, but for my mother's life' I thought and it is angering me every second when I imagine her being strapped into a chair and blinded by a blindfold.
I shook my head to clear my thoughts, imagining bad things will be the end of me and her. I can't afford to be distracted during this time. I need to keep my head straight and focus on passing these entrance exams.
I entered the halls, and we were designated into classrooms for the written exams, it was easy in some sense, because all the things that have been in the written exams are just plain information and analysis, much like in junior high. So, I didn't have any problem at that part, well except math and history, those subjects can just kill me without trying at all. 'If I were to guess, those two subjects will be the lowest score' I thought grimly, but I can't just seem to grasp anything on math, while regarding history I'll immediately sleep.
After that written part of the exams, it is now the time for the practical exams, which also means that this is the highlight of UA. This will be the part where everyone has the opportunity to shine and stand out from anybody.
'It is time for the Exam orientation, and I better pay attention to every detail' I said to myself in pure determination, there is someone in the line during this exam.
"You are scattered into a different zone, in other words in different battle centers, sound good?" the voice hero Present Mic had announced, and let me tell you, no one had followed his vibe. No one at all, well except for our fanboy who can't seem to keep himself in check, I can practically hear him from over my seat which is pretty far from him, like two blocks down. "Okay!"
'Looks like, this school intends to keep students who know each other away, for the reason that they can prevent any individual to work with their friends' I said scratching my chin, thinking that there seems to be another motive behind this.
"If they will keep us away from anyone we know, does that mean it prevents us from teaming up…? Or is it okay just not with the ones you already know" I mumbled out and I think some of the students heard me and are now scanning the surrounding area for teammates to join? Not really sure what they are up to.
'Well… it is natural for heroes to team up with anyone because crimes do not happen in just one spot all the time' I thought while thinking that this should be natural or common knowledge to any one of us who is aspiring to become a hero at work.
"Okay, Okay let's check out your target, there are three types of villains in each battle center and you'll earn points based on their level of difficulty" the pro hero started to explain and I pretty much get the gist of it immediately.
It is like a video game, wherein your individual score is determined by how much a monster's point value is, when you destroy a one pointer, which is the weakest between the three, you get to earn 1 point and 2 for the medium-difficult robot and 3 for the last one. 'But I am curious though, what is this 4th robot in the handouts… is this suppose to be a gimmick or just plain error on their part.'
"But check it! You better make things heroic, attacking others is a UA no, NO! ya dig!|" The voice hero said, and I am not appreciating the DJ kind of voice he is portraying. It might be enjoyable to hear on the radio, but I must honestly say that it is not pleasant to hear in live shows.
"Sir! I have a question" I hand shoot up from my row and I noticed it is a boy with indigo hair and glasses, who is getting Present Mic's attention.
"On the printout, you've listed 4 types of villains, not 3, with all due respect, if this is an error in a UA material… it is shameful, a mistake such as this won't do!" he said to the hero and I guess he has a point, there has to be no such thing as an error in one of the top hero schools in Japan.
"Additionally, you with the unkempt hair!" he yelled pointing towards someone above our block and it looks to be Midoriya too. 'If I am guessing, that is Midoriya… I think his fanboying is getting to everyone…'
"You've been muttering this whole time, if you can't bother to take this seriously then leave. You're distracting the rest of us!" the boy with glasses said. 'I can't really blame the guy… Midoriya's muttering is getting everyone anxious… and that means I am getting anxious about the exam too.'
"Alright… Alright… examinee thanks for calling in your request, but that thing is worth 0 points. It's just an obstacle we'll be throwing in your way; there is one in every battle center. Think of it as a hurdle that comes in your way" Present Mic said, explaining the villain and also calming the situation down before it gets too heated.
"It's not that it can't be beaten but there's… kind of no point" I stifled a laugh, I don't know if he's doing it on purpose or not… "I recommend to my listeners to just ignore the things and the ones that are top in the charge!"
"Thank you very much" the guy thanked him while bowing humbly towards the hero. I've got to hand it to the guy he knows how to get his act together, unlike two people I know. Let me give you a hint, the other is an explosive individual that blows up if he gets annoyed, and the other is too shy and a fumbling individual. 'Hope they both get through this…'
"That's all I've got for you today, and let me leave you with the school's famous motto, As General Napoleon once said "A true hero is one who overcomes life's misfortune"… now that's a tasty-sounding bite… You ready to go beyond?" he is concluding his announcement and I must say he left that quote at the right place at the right time. "Let's hear a PLUS ULTRA!" he said full of enthusiasm, but no one is saying it along with him.
'I guess everyone is pretty scared and excited for the upcoming practical exams… I mean who wouldn't?' I thought getting pumped already, but I still need to focus on my goal here. 'I need to save my mother no matter what, better not get distracted'
'Okay… I just need to do good in this stage and everything will be smooth sailing from here. No biggie…' I thought nervously at the situation I am in. 'Here's the thing I need to prepare myself and calm down, this is going to be alright. You've been training for this, so it is bound to pay off at some point' I thought psyching myself out, this is like a video game… with just my mother's life on the line, and also no restart button to press. No pressure at all… none at all.
"Is this the Battle center C?" someone asked me, tapping me from behind. I looked over at the person, and notice that it is a girl with an earphone jack dangling in her ears. 'I think that is her quirk… but that also makes her sensitive to loud sounds… right?' I thought, not really noticing her question at me.
"…Yeah… it is," I said and she just nodded her head and walked away from me towards the front of the gate C. 'Okay… she is going to be a tough individual… hope she passes though'
I scanned the area and it seems interesting, they have gear and others are in their track clothes. I look down at my outfit, and it is just my regular outfit at home. Some shorts and a white shirt, is this okay, or I should have changed into something similar to their outfits?
"Right Let's start!" all of our attention was moved to the voice of Present Mic which is at the top of the building. 'I am curious though… how did he get up there?' I guess this is a place full of heroes, no surprise there.
"Get moving! There are no countdowns in real battles. So, RUN RUN RUN Listeners!" after he said that I bolted out towards the gates, there are only 10 minutes and it is more than enough to summon some grades 0 and 1's to aid me in this trial. I slapped my face hard, to let the nervousness of the situation go, and it is quite effective too because now I'm just focused on the pain and not the pressure of my mother's life.
"Call! Weapon Dealer, Govannon, and Victory Maker!" I said tossing 1 card on the ground ahead of me and the other is in the sky just above me. In those cards appeared a dwarf wearing armor with two swords on his back, while the other is a red bird that looks to be carrying a lot of villainous aura around the bird.
"Victory Maker, scan the area for the enemies and Govannon a sword to battle with, you are also with me to defeat everything Victory Maker sees" I commanded and they agreed to my plan immediately. 'I admit… it is not a made well plan but this is all I have got for now… I still need to learn battle tactics from the Oracle Think Tank Clan'
During those months of training I found out something very vital, and that is… I can use the weapons they wield. There is actually no restriction to it other than their permission, of course. "Govannon, I may not be a pro with the sword but I am counting on you to watch my back!" I said to the unit and he seemed to be glad at that too.
I heard a screech just above the building behind us, 'it must be where a lot of robots have gathered to outnumber students… but unfortunately for them, I have units that will help me with that problem'
"Govannon, let's follow Victory Maker, he knows where most of the robots are gathered," I said to the weapon dealer and he followed my lead towards where Victory Maker is heading.
Victory Maker made a sudden stop and I did too. The bird landed on my shoulder and squawked similar to a warning signal. 'I think he is telling me that I might be overwhelmed by them' I listened to what he said and I ultimately decided to summon another unit, but this time I think 2 grade 1 will do, besides I think time is almost over. So, I better hurry it up!
Without thinking I randomly drew two cards from my left and right pockets, where both the Royal and Oracle Think Tank Cards are located hoping for grade 1s. With just a glimpse of their name, I summoned them without hesitation "Calling Battle Sister, Omelette, and Knight Squire Allen!"
Those 2 are close-ranged fighters so, I guess this will be an advantage for them, "Guys… it's time to fight" I said to the 4 units that I had summoned and they are determined to win this, and their eyes says it all. "But, I'll remind you to stay alert and cover each other" I reminded everyone, and Omelette just punched her 2 metal punching gloves together and both Allen and Govannon are preparing their stance.
'I know I should be worrying about my mother but… I can't help myself to be happy engaging in this fight' I thought, guilty for forgetting my mother in the midst of battle.
3rd Person's POV
"It's clear that the examinee has no idea how many villains are there in the vicinity of their locations. They have limited time, must cover a vast area and hunt down every last target" Someone said watching the video footage of students fighting the robots in every Battle Center in use.
"I guess not all students are dumb as you think… this one has a bird that identified the location of where the majority of the robots are, and importantly he knows how to fight, but his handle with the sword… you can see he is not adept in using a weapon." A low-toned voice said pointing towards the screen where they witness Kold summoning a red bird and then seeing the bird scanning the area for any sorts of information it could muster.
"I am surely impressed by his quick thinking to gather info like that…" another male voice spoke complementing the young summoner.
"Anyway…some students use information gathering to plan out their next attack, while others rely on speed to pull ahead from their peers. Of course, remaining calm under pressure can be a huge advantage, as can pure power and pure combat ability. The most successful student uses the combination of all these tactics" someone said in the room while zooming to the student who displayed the tactic that the person just mentioned. "They are the one who racks up the highest scores…" he finished in delight.
"I think some student just fit that bill…" a woman's voice said zooming to the student who summoned multiple units. "I am curious though… at this student who keeps on summoning creatures like he has a stack of them in a pit"
"Oh, there's still plenty of time before it is over… the real test is yet to come," a man's voice said while pressing a red button to initiate the 'gimmick' they had prepared for the students to face. "Let's see how they react"
Kold's POV
"Summoner behind you!" Allen had screamed warning me to avoid the attack coming for me. However, I am still holding back a robot with my sword and I have no time to dodge it! I just closed my eyes bracing for impact.
"CRAAHH" I heard a squeak from a bird, I reluctantly opened my eyes and notice that Victory Maker is now laying on the road, weak from the blow it took. 'He took the blow for me…'
"No!" I screamed hard for my comrade, and I quickly stabbed the robot through his wirings to shut it down, this is not supposed to happen he should be supporting everyone from the sky, not engage in the battle to protect me. "I retire Victory Maker from the field… I am sorry for this, promise I'll be much more aware next time" I said to the fading unit and the red bird just nodded his head in my direction recognizing my promise.
A battle cry is what I heard from Govannon, destroying the robot that hurt our beloved comrade in battle. "Summoner… he is going to be alright, you retired him just in the nick of time. I think that will be enough for his clanmates to heal him back to full recovery" he said approaching me while tapping my shoulders in sympathy.
'It might be confusing to see, but this is one of the major prices I have to endure when I am summoning units into battle. This is one of the differences between the game and the actual battle, when I summoned the units, they gain a somewhat real form and when they die… then they will die forever. They cannot be resurrected or prayed back to life, this is the cost of summoning them in this place… and I have to live with the guilt of being responsible for their lives' I thought grimly… I don't want others to die for me much less get hurt because of me, but I need their help to save my mother… and there is nothing I can do for them except ask for their forgiveness.
'Remember when I asked Lozenge regarding the 4th general rule… this is what they meant that they are alive too…' They are much like anyone on this planet; they get hurt and are killed just like any other human being and creatures.
Explosion and Breakage of buildings are what disrupted my line of thoughts regarding my companions. 'Oh no… I thought everything was good, what is UA up to now?' I thought worriedly.
"If they have more robots to deliver, then you guys better be ready for another round of fighting," I said to my units and they just nodded their heads in approval.
I looked around and notice that every examinee had gathered in one place, and looking up, waiting for the huge robot that messed the town like it was nothing. "What the hell is that?!" someone said pointing towards the huge robot that is heading in our direction.
"That's the zero pointer… Everybody RUN!" another voice had suggested and it seemed like everyone followed his lead but I stood my ground. I am still angry and guilty at what happened to Victory Maker, and I need to let off some steam, and this is the perfect candidate.
"What do you plan to do summoner?" Omelete asked and I look towards her direction with a serious face on display.
"I am just going to play with it, but I am sorry I need to summon a much higher unit than you guys… I retire Allen, Omelete, and Govonnan" I chanted and they just bowed their heads understanding the situation I am trying to create.
"It is an honor to battle with you summoner," Allen said saluting towards me like a captain of a platoon.
"Yeah… and you better train with a sword once in a while," Govannon said smiling brightly my way, and I know what he meant. He wants to be summoned again for a private lesson regarding sword handling, but there are a lot of swordsmen in the Royal Paladin Clan who can teach me.
I witnessed that the units started to fade into thin air and that the sword I was also using started to disintegrate together with them. I grabbed my Kagero deck to search for a grade 2 dragon unit to help me in this battle. 'This is bad… I am starting to feel tired after retiring them, but I think I still have the strength to summon a grade 2 unit… so who should I choose' I thought wondering who should help me.
I smirked darkly because I had finally found the perfect unit for the job, and I know he is going to be happy about this. "Call… Whose valor is akin to the king of the beasts, Dragon Knight Nehalem!" I screamed while tossing the card up into the sky with my hair covering my eyes.
A sudden rush of drowsiness welcomed me after summoning Nehalem from Cray. 'I didn't think it will take a lot out of me….' I felt my legs wobble like noodles in a boiling pot. I crouched low to get myself together. 'I just need a breather… and I'll be fine'
"Summoner, I'll take care of this you focus on getting your energy back," he said in a serious tone, and I shivered at his tone of voice. It seemed dark and cold for some reason… and I was sweating bullets, nodding my head to recognize that I was listening to him with every fiber of my being.
'Did he not like that I summoned him to just fight a giant robot, that could potentially kill anyone it steps?' I thought, forcing myself to stand and looking for a safer place to watch the battle unfold itself.
I leaned my back at the side of an unknown building, or you could say that it is abandoned or some sort. "Nehalem, minimize the damage if you can!" I warned the Dragon Knight unit, and he glared at me with daggers in his eyes. "or… you could just do whatever you want…" I said taking back what I had said to him.
"As you wish summoner." That was the only response I got from him before he took flight above and facing the gigantic robot head-on.
"The Kagero clan is too hard to handle, but what I am most afraid of is the Oracle Clan…" I mumbled grimly, slowly imagining myself dying because of them. Have you ever thought of a prophet being angry, because I am not willing to imagine it, but if I were then there will be a lot of plucking and torturing involved and I am not going through it.
The Dragon Knight had come face to face with the huge robot, "I'll end it with one strike…" Nehalem said in with his voice growing indefinitely low. 'He is really angry, I thought it will be hard, but guessing that it is just a robot then, it will be a hitch for him. These kinds of things are just like thick logs for them'
I look up to notice that the huge robot stopped its track upon seeing Nehalem, with its supposed eyes turning red, it spotted its next opponent. However, when I turned my eyes to the Kagero unit, he seems to be unfazed by it. 'I guess… he is pretty upset about fighting a mere robot when he is a knight of pride. Did I offend him in some way?' I thought grimly... not to mention this is also the first time I ever summoned him into battle, and he may not even like me too.
"You will face my wrath… this is the end of you Nova Grappler Unit!" he yelled in anger and with a battle cry started to engage in a fight with the huge robot.
"Wait… a Nova Grappler!" I screamed in confusion. 'If I remember correctly… the Nova Grappler is a clan part of the Vanguard game, they specialize in high stamina and energy meaning they are known for their relentless attack and attacking all of they have into the fight until they lose energy' I thought, but how does that explain his fury, is it towards me or the Nova Grappler clan?
"ARGHHH!" Nehalem yelled a battle cry crashing the Dragon towards the Robot, making it unmovable. With only a slash of a sword covered in flames slicing it into two, and a breath attack from the dragon, the robot is down for the count like a toasted log.
"…" I blinked at what I witnessed. 'How anti-climactic… I thought a huge fight was about to happen' I thought sweat dropping from the thought of it.
"Huh? I thought he was much stronger than this… I guess Nova Grapplers had lost their touch. They do have the ability to make machines more powerful than this…" Nehalem said cockily I must say. I guess that is what you get from someone whose pride is equal to ten lions.
I moved from my spot towards where Nehalem can land safely and where we can also talk. The dragon knight had landed just in front of me, and he got off from his dragon. "Thank you for defeating the robot for me," I said thanking the great 2 unit, as my life depended on it.
"There is no need for thanks, I was only doing what I supposed to do, besides I thought it was much harder than this especially looking at the size of the unit I just fought" he replied while bowing down in front of me.
"O-oh yeah… no need for bowing down, you can just thank me, standing straight up!" I said flustered by his actions. I look towards the other, students and they were staring at me with shock in their eyes. I can practically hear them saying 'is this guy for real! He took on the huge thing likes its nothing!' or something around the lines.
"…If you say, but I am grateful for summoning me into battle, even if it was easy," he said, and I was taken aback by his attitude towards me. I thought he was angry, but I guess he was just pretty serious about fighting.
"Oh!" after that I had nothing to say to him anymore. 'Okay… this is getting awkward as heck' I thought embarrassed that I couldn't just engage in a casual conversation with anyone new.
"Very good! Very good you are all heroes in my eyes!" someone said, and it was a granny voice. I look over to the source of the voice and it was the pro hero Recovery Girl, the lifeline of UA because her quirk is essential when it comes to these kinds of exams. She is able to lessen the recovery time of anyone she kisses, so that makes recovery much easier and less time needed. But, I need to be wary of her quirk; if she uses her quirk on me when I am tired like this… it will be the end of me.
"Does anyone need some healing?" she asked and other students rushed towards her aid, but I deviated from it completely. I don't really need her healing, because she forces the body to use its own energy to heal the injuries quickly and that kind of healing is not applicable to someone whose quirk relies heavily on their stamina and energy.
"Do you need me to check your injuries, honey?" Recovery girl said, and I shook my head indicating I didn't need it, besides I only got scratches and small bruises and avoided a major injury because of Victory Maker. "If you say so…" she agreed, heading towards the other students to tend to their injuries.
"Summoner, I think I already extended my stay here will you please send me back now?" Nehalem said gaining my attention towards him. I forgot that he is still here because worry is bombarding my mind.
"Yeah! No problem, I really appreciate the help you gave me… and I'll be counting on you in future battles to come" I said offering a handshake and he reluctantly agreed to it. This made me happy somehow; it feels like I gained a connection. "I retire Dragon Knight, Nehalem from the field" I chanted and the Dragon Knight slowly faded while offering me a bow before disappearing completely.
After that retiring chant, I suddenly felt exhaustion like none other. It made my eyes-sight blurry and my legs lost their strength to support me, and luckily my arms caught myself from falling into the pavement. 'I guess I summoned too many units at once…'
3rd Person's POV
"I think these kids look promising, especially those kids who handled the 0 pointer like it was nothing" a woman's voice towards the other unknown people in a room full of video projections.
"I agree, I really took a liking towards that kid who somehow called a dragon knight" this time a male voice interrupted the voice of other people. "I am curious though… I really want to know how he manages to tame something so powerful, especially a Dragon Rider to booth"
"Well it seems that what he summoned came from a card game called Vanguard, and it seems to me that his quirk is summoning them to have a physical body in this place… a construction type quirk, maybe? with a very promising scale" a squeaky voice had resonated from the place and everyone is listening to his every word.
"But I wonder though if he can heal injuries… or maybe yet use those heal units to construct new tissues or organs for healing, if so then he will be a great candidate for being one of the medical heroes in the making," Recovery Girl said, attempting to recruit a hero who has the ability to heal injuries like her, for the reason that most healing quirks are pretty scarce, especially construction quirks to this extent.
"I know what you are thinking Recovery Girl… you want to discover if this Kold kid can use his powers to summon units that can heal and construct tissues or other things to help those previous heroes who retired because of their injury," someone said exposing the Recovery Girl's plan to the other.
"Naturally, those kinds of quirks are pretty rare… I need to find someone who will succeed me in this old age" she replied angrily, and the others got her point, because of the scarce of healing quirks they heavily relied on Recovery Girl's quirk to proceed with this kind of exams. If she were to retire, then UA will never again hold these kinds of practical exams ever again.
"He sure has a unique quirk with a lot of potential… how come he didn't apply for any recommendations?" a new voice etched into the conversation.
"Well… that is a question that can never be answered by mere speculation" the squeaky voice interrupted the interrogation of quirk; rather they focused on other students who also displayed promising abilities and potential to become a Hero.
