Chapter 17: Training for the Sports Festival
Kold's POV
Two weeks… that is all the time we have to train and I need to come up with different tactics not just for the challenges that the Sports Festival offers but also during the final stage. According to the history of the UA Sports Festival, the final rounds are composed of one-on-one fights and it didn't matter what kind but as long as it's one-on-one it's good to go, and I need to be able to get creative when it comes to my use.
My quirk allows me to summon units, and the limit of numbered summons is unknown but now I'm gonna exploit that. Then, there are also their individual skills, swordsmanship, elemental control, magic, healing, defense, and much more… which means I have a whole variety of options to use. The problem is the timing on when to use it, and there is also on how to use such moves, but I think I have something in mind already.
In regards to Issault, I already have something in mind for her to train in and we talked about it ahead of time all we need to do is to test it if it works, but I doubt that it will be good on the first try. Then, I have Barcgal train with his calling ability to summon his brethren of dogs like Pongal, Flogal, Wingal to name a few, and maybe also train with Snogal with his duplication ability.
I have a lot of things to do, and a lot of ideas to create into reality but so little time. However, this is one of the advantages of being in the Hero course… we can use our quirk as much as we like. It's not like I am not enjoying the thrill of discovering new combination moves and doing special moves… it's just that every time I finish training it feels like it's not right to do these kinds of things. I am not driven to win the sports festival for any personal reason, but because mom's life is depending on it.
It makes my stomach puke just thinking about it, making me full of guilt that I was enjoying my training here, and if I don't also put in the effort Mr. Aizawa might expel me without question. Basically, I also need to fake to be training and wanting to be here, which I could do but not every time. Sooner than later, this secret will be out and everyone will vote for me to transfer and better yet be expelled right on the spot without remorse.
"Call, Barcgal" I tossed the needed card and the mechanical dog appeared in a yelp. Happy that the guy was summoned, and I guess I need to owe up to Victory Maker during the entrance exam. "Call Victory Maker" the red bird appeared with a shriek and it slightly heard the ear of one of my classmates.
"Kold, make that bird shut its beak… it's making my ears hurt" Jiro said in pain, and looks like I discovered one of my classmate's weakness. As much as Jiro is powerful when hearing, it is also a weakness when a very high-pitched sound comes her way.
"Got it, I'll be careful next time," I said to the girl and she grumbled away, far from Victory Maker as she could.
I turned my attention to the red bird and he was looking apologetic. The guy is sensitive when he makes others hurt, that's why most of the time he is distracting and a scouting unit because he believes that violence doesn't solve anything. In other words, he is a pacifist.
"Okay Vic, what do I have the pleasure to do for you? As I said during the Entrance Exam, that I owe you one for saving me, and this is the time for me to pay" I asked the red bird with a small smile. Believe me or not, but I actually enjoy spending and training with my units. They kind of like the imaginary friends that others would want, and I was grateful for that… even if they did kind of used me for their own gain, but tomato… tomato. All is forgiven now, as long as we stay truthful.
The bird squeal but clearly I know what he wants already, and that is, he wants to fly around the campus all day. Technically it wasn't allowed but UA has special privileges that every student has the right to use their quirk as long as they are on the school ground.
"All right, you could fly as much as you want, but don't pass the borders of the school. We are technically using my quirk illegally if you get that far. However, you could always go as high as you can, but be careful if they are planes passing through, and please… don't get hurt" I warned the bird before he flew high up with a speed that could match air jets.
"Arff!" the dog unit had gained my attention and it looks like both of our training is going to be tough. I was thinking of using his call ability to extend to other units too, especially the other clans, if I can get him to summon grade zero without me using my card and doing it manually that would make my summoning time shorter, which would give me an advantage when I can't summon anything anymore.
"Barcgal how about we try summoning your cousins one by one, start with Flogal, and then Brugal, and so on until you finally summon Llew. While you do that, I'm gonna be attempting to summon my own sets of units"
This was the one thing I had in mind, I have been limiting myself to summon at least 3 a day and didn't go beyond that because in fear of doing it right of the bat might be killing me. Also, why I did want Barcgal to train his summoning skill is because he is the one calling the other units, not me, so what I'm basically saying is that I don't have to spend the necessary energy to summon them because I am not the one calling for them.
So, I have Barcgal cover that part and in turn, I have a not-so-determined number of units to help me to battle at full strength. 'I need to focus on myself now… I need to be able to at least summon five without blacking out. Yeah, that's my goal, if not then, let's add more core training'
"Call… Little Witch, Lulu" a girl with auburn hair that was tied buns in each side who was also holding an amber-colored staff in her hands appear.
"Wow! You've never called me since forever… I'm starting to think you forgot about me…" Lulu said pouting her lip while looking at me with her puppy eyes.
'Lucky for me that her eyes don't bother me at all… I mean she does look cute looking like that but, it doesn't really strike me as anything' I dismissed my thoughts and had chopped her head like a plank.
"Ahhh! That really hurts. I could sue you for child abuse you know" she rebutted while rubbing her swollen head.
"If you can that is" I challenged her with a smirking face, she gets easily annoyed by it too and I don't know why.
"Not fair!"
"Okay, that's enough… I just need you to train on your magic spells, work on calling other units like what Barcgal is doing" I suggested to the little girl, and she pouted away to a clearing that was not too far from my metal dog unit.
As you know, I have a theory regarding the drawing ability of other cards, much like Lulu. Her skill is that when she enters the battlefield I sacrifice a soul…? Whatever that implies here, anyway, by sacrificing 2 cards from the soul the player could draw a card from the deck. In a card game that usually is self-explanatory, but when it comes to this battlefield it's quite different. My guess is that drawing means calling another unit into this planet, but unlike Barcgal's skill, it chooses randomly.
However, I never really gotten to the part that it actually does work, I asked her about it and she was just as confused as I was. So, this time I am going to train her in that department.
I stretched quite a bit to get myself loosen up for the next unit to be summoned. "Call Flame Seed Salamander" a baby salamander that was covered in flames appeared just a little too close to me, making me shut my eyes and cover my face from the heat.
"Okay, back it up… I know you're pretty upset from the last time we trained, but I have to give chances to others too" I said to the baby unit, and I noticed he only hissed. Don't know if it was agreement or disagreement, but he didn't burn me so, I guess it's an agreement.
This unit was a handy one; he oftentimes makes his call and doesn't particularly listen to me. So, one word for the little guy is that he is a brat. That's it; I called my unit a brat, but when you say it to him straight the lizard just smirks in joy. He feels like it was the biggest compliment in his entire life, when in fact it was the very opposite of a compliment.
"Come now, Salamander… it couldn't hurt for you to train your multiply ability," I said to the little unit which made him stop in his tracks immediately.
Remember the last time I said that some of my units have the ability to multiply; this unit is one of them. He has a pretty unique ability, a beast when it comes to his flames, and has a very terrifying temper to boot. You could say that he is the spitting image of Bakuguo turned into a small-sized lizard.
'Okay that took quite a lot actually, summoning 4 units simultaneously is not a good idea when it comes to battle. Better keep that in mind' I said hoping and shaking my body to strip the drowsiness away. Although it doesn't really help me in the long run, but it does relieve quite a bit of tension.
"Okay back to business. Call, Battle Sister Ginger" I chanted and a girl in a nun robe with a flask in different colors in her hand appeared, with disheveled hair and dirty face.
"… Sorry about this summoner, I was in the middle of an experiment when you called, so I'm not presentable enough," she said blinking her eyes looking unexpectedly that I called her out of nowhere.
"No, you don't have to be sorry. I called you here without knowing you were in the middle of something. If you want I could send you back?" I suggested to the battle sister, but she shook her head no before I could send her back.
"There's no need for that because I too want to study the plants and herbs around these parts. If you wouldn't mind me tinkering a bit in the forest that would be enough" she said and I agreed to her proposal, I mean I did this to conduct the number of units I could summon simultaneously.
"Actually that would be great, I'm also really in the middle of an experiment myself. How many units could I summon before I hit my limit" and when I looked at the unit that I was talking to she was gone.
I look towards the forest side of UA and she was admiring trees and grass left and right like it was the last time she would look at it. 'Does Cray doesn't have plants anymore? She looks to be too engrossed for a bunch of weeds and trees' I decided to just ignore the lady and continue on with my experiment, but I do hope I get to summon up to 6 or more.
I grabbed another batch of cards from my 3 decks and I made sure to grab only grade 0. Although, I had some doubts if they were safe to summon because some of the Grade 0 in the Kagero clan are quite aggressive and maybe attack one of my classmates, with a lot of tenacity and a vulgar attitude to boot.
"Maybe I should summon them when I'm alone… better safe than sorry. Nah… Call Embodiment of Spear Tar" I said placing the card on the pavement and out came a man wearing only Arabian clothes like Aladdin the only difference is that he is holding a spear.
"Glad that you have called me once again summoner, and I am ready to fight!" Tar said with a battle cry aiming his spear at my chest which I immediately dropped to the ground to avoid.
"Okay, chill Tar. You almost killed me with your spear, and we are not here to fight, just to train" I said to the unit while standing up and dusting myself from the dirty pavement that I just dropped.
"That's too bad summoner, but might as well polish my moves while I am here," he said in a military tone of voice. I didn't really get what kind of life they live, but my guess is that they are in a time wherein soldiers are needed most of the time, but how come soldiers are needed when clearly no other clans are found… yet.
"Great… how about you ask Flame Salamander to train with you, he is practicing his multiply skill and maybe it's also a great way for you to train with battling multiple opponents at once" I suggested to the spearman and he was delighted to hear that from me.
"That is a wonderfully great idea summoner, I would gladly like to train with the flaming reptile" he replied while jogging towards an open space where Salamander was convulsing his 4th clone.
'Glad that Salamander is finally getting his multiplying ability to work to this degree' as I finished dusting myself I was drained leaving me with blurry eyes and a little headache. It kind of feels like that I haven't slept for an entire day.
However, I feel like I could summon another unit. "Let's go for one more and then I'll finish up for today…" I heaved a huge breath and shaking my head left and right to remove the drowsiness that was starting to get to me. "Here I go… Call! God Hawk Ichibiyoshi!" I slammed the card into another section of the pavement, and I closed my eyes bracing for light to welcome my eyes and another wave of drowsiness that will come.
However, nothing happened. I peeked and didn't see any different, there was no God Hawk in place and no sign of anything that has been summoned. 'Okay, that definitely is weird…' I tried again using the same card, but nothing appeared.
There is definitely something wrong with my quirk… or I just hit my limit that is. 'Let's try another card to see if my guess is right'. I grabbed Monica's card and tried to summon her, and just like with Ichibiyoshi nothing happened. 'I guess 6 is my limit… that sucks, but there is always Barcgal, Lulu, and other's skill that could help summon units' I should be satisfied that I could summon up to 6 cards.
I made my butt comfortable on the pavement and sit to take some need break. Later I'll just check up on the others if they were able to train for themselves. I tried to meditate but it wasn't working the way I thought it would. I would both slightly lean back and feeling my consciousness fades or got a lot to think about that distract me from meditating.
I decided to just skip the meditation and check on my other unit's progress. During this time it made me somehow feel that I was teaching these units to control their own powers, like a teacher at UA. It made me laugh at myself for thinking of such a thing.
First up was Barcgal's progress and the mechanical dog was doing fine. He had summoned Flogal, Brugal, Llew, and finally Wingal. Though, he did admit that he was having trouble calling for the Grade 1 unit, especially Snogal. Then the 3 dogs and a human that was summoned were somehow just chilling, talking, and sometimes laughing at their own weird way of talking. I was kind of amazed at Llew for comprehending what language the dog units have been talking about, and it slightly made me happy to see my units get along with each other.
Next was checking to see the progress of Lulu, and I can say that she is doing amazing. It seems to me that I was right all along, the drawing ability sums up to random summons and in this case, Lulu is able to summon Dark Cat, who also had a similar ability to Lulu, and the cat unit was able to summon Dream Eater who is happily jumping around the two who seemed pretty much exhausted after using their skills. With that in mind, I turn to see Barcgal and the dog unit was slumped into the ground fast asleep, summoning those 4 might have been too much for the dog.
Then, I decided to see what Ginger was up to, and I was finding her collecting grasses and tree leaves while placing them in an empty flask separately. "Ginger… those are plain leaf and weeds that have been growing around these parts naturally," I said to the alchemist unit.
"I know that summoner; it's just that we don't often see trees and weeds in our planet for quite a while now. The Great Nature clan who vanished govern all the plants that have been living in Cray and with their disappearance, they all died. So, this is my way of remembering them by, besides they also provide me with medicinal herbs that help prevent acne and skin disorders" she replied jumping from each plant to the other and I was having a bit of trouble keeping up with her.
"Good then… sad to hear that you won't be getting those now," I said to the unit while letting her do what she does, and I head back to where Tar and Flame Salamander are practicing.
It would also have been beneficial to me too. Not because of acne or anything, but for the reason that I could have sold the items at a very large price. Girls at my old school and now would have been dying to get that from me. However, too bad that they are all forgotten now, but maybe they could be revived again if I find their cards. 'Okay, enough thoughts about other clans… I barely get by with these 3 clans and adding another clan into the mix might be asking for trouble'
As I am approaching where Tar and Salamander are training, I hear stone and rock clanging together. 'Looks like one of the units finally found one of my classmates!' I thought hurriedly running towards where the Kagero units are.
"Arghh! That was a very manly attack! But I'm not done yet!" I see Kirishima charging at Tar who has his spear ready for a stab at the rock student's chest.
I tossed two cards at Kirishima and Tar's way distracting them from their brawl and asked. "What are you two doing?"
"Kold! Man, you really have a great unit. This guy here is as powerful as me! He maneuvered his spear like a pro and had me at the skin of my teeth. You should have seen us duke it out!" the redhead said in joy. I guess it got past his brain that these cards are made to battle, and Tar is one of the best spear guys around Cray.
"There is no need to boast rock guy, summoner here is just worried that I may have taken it overboard and accidentally kill you," Tar said, and I wasn't really implying that… but take it down a notch and that is what I am worried about.
"Really?! Deep down you're a softie, huh Kold?" Kirishima said smirking his way at me. "But I've got to hand it to you. You have a weird way of saying you care about us, but I accept it because that is what I really man should do. Protect each other no matter what!" He continued while wrapping his arm around my neck and giving me a noogie.
"Okay, that's enough… stop it" I whined and forced myself to get away from his hold. "Geez… I didn't know that you were this affectionate…" I ruffled my hair back to its original messy look because Kirishima had messed it up for me. I mean it's messy already there was no need to put much more messiness into it.
"You've got to be my training partner Kold because after this fight with Tar I can't help but fight more with your other units," he said punching an invisible enemy and looking all serious about it too.
"Trust me… you don't want to fight my other units. Just be glad that Tar is the one you fought and not the others, because you might have been burnt alive even with your quirk activated" I said looking scary at Kirishima to make an emphasis.
"That's creepy man… but how about you let me and Tar finish our fight then I'll forget about challenging any other units of yours"
"… Deal…" I agreed and walked away from the two who immediately restarted their fight. I grabbed the other 2 cards I threw and preceded to search for Salamander, who was clearly out because Tar has been fighting Kirishima.
'I just hope that he didn't get into another fight with any of my classmates… who am I kidding? Flame Seed Salamander has a temper like Bakuguo he is bound to find someone by now' I thought running to search for my other Kagero unit.
I thought I was taking a break but who guessed that having to summon 5 units simultaneously is too much work for me to handle, and now I am paying the price for it.
*BOOM*
An explosion is what I heard from a clearing that I know Bakuguo is training. I originally wanted to train there but when I noticed he already claimed it as his, I stepped down and find a larger space at the back of the school.
I quickly directed my way to the explosion and it turns out I was right, after all, Flame Seed was creating clones one after the other trying to evade Bakuguo's explosion to the best of his abilities. I might have been proud of the little guy, because of this feat of his in dodging Bakuguo's relentless attacks but the memory of Jarren dying came into my mind.
"Flame Seed stop it!" I screamed to the baby lizard unit, and that momentary distraction is what Bakuguo needed to fire off a giant explosion towards the unit's way.
It felt like time slowed down when I witness Flame Seed Salamander took the hit directly. It made my eyes widen, and run towards the smoke that the attack produced. "No… No… NO!" I searched for the unit left and right but there was nothing I could see because of this smoke. It needed to disappear right this instant, but there is no way for me to do that.
I dropped down and hoped that I could find the little guy lying around the ground unconscious, but it was proven to be ineffective because I still couldn't see a thing. "Where the hell are you?! Please, don't die on me. I can't lose another one… Please!"
I desperately waved the smoke in my way and finally, some time had passed the smoke began to clear a little. Flame Seed is a fire unit; he has to have some kind of resistance to explosions… right?
I turned 180 as I hear a small hiss from something. I turned around and finally noticed that Flame Seed was lying in the ground not moving… and it sends me horrors once again. The time where I found out Jarren was dead came back to mind, and the fire during that time was ignited once more.
I quickly made my way to the small unit and crouched next to him, and tried to feel his heart in his scaly chest. I heard a small beat and it immediately made me quickly reacted. "I retire Tar and call Yggdrasil Maiden Elaine!" Tar's card quickly came to my hand, and switched it with Elaine's and summoning the healer.
"Elaine take care of Flame Seed, he needs healing immediately, and be sure to move away from here… because it's about to get ugly," I said with a dark tone, glaring dangerously at Bakuguo.
"Looks like the weakling is finally dead! He was incredibly annoying dodging my blasts like that, I guess your unit really takes after you!" Bakuguo laughed maniacally, smirking at his success of defeating my 'cowardly unit'.
"You want to see how a coward fights that badly Bakuguo? Then game on…" I tilted my head upwards looking down at this piece of crap that made one of my units suffer like this. 'I don't really care if I get expelled for this… but enough is enough. It's time for me to fight back against this bastard!'
I whistled loudly, alerting all the units I have summoned that I need them right this instance. "You think you can look down on me you loser. Let's finally see who's the strongest between us two!" Bakuguo screamed jumping to aim an explosion using his right hand.
I leaped away and just in time for Barcgal to smash into Bakuguo side creating some distance from us two. "Great work Barcgal…" I patted the mechanical dog unit in his natural fur and I could hear a yelp from him because of what I did.
"So, another coward summon to help? Big deal! It's just a mechanical dog, I can easily blow that thing into pieces" Bakuguo took to the sky again and made one of his biggest moves, I believe he yelled 'Howitzer Impact'. This might be the thing he is practicing.
As he was making bombs left and right to create both power and speed, "Retire Vicory Maker, and Call Issault!" another flash of the card had directed itself to my hand and I threw another towards the designated direction would Bakuguo would launch his attack, which was at Barcgal's way. "Issault, activate Perfect Defense!"
A gigantic shield in blue created a perfect barrier at my side. Perfect Defense is a special ability that all sentinel cards have, they are capable of stopping any attacks when they use it thus it is limited to one use per day only.
The Explosive build-up of Bakuguo had finally landed but I and my team are perfectly fine because of it. "What the fuck! You're finally showing your true power! HAHAHA, this is great… finally I can beat you and prove to everyone that I am stronger than you" what he said made me really laugh. I had been glaring since the moment I had arrived, but what he said intensified it. "Why the fuck are you laughing about, you think you're still better than me!"
"You piece of shit actually think that I am here to fight to see which one of us is the strongest…? AHAHHAHA! Don't make me laugh… I'm here to obliterate your very existence" I said releasing a bit of killing intent that I didn't know I was capable of doing.
"HAH! Do you actually think you can obliterate me with your puny units? Don't make me laugh…" Bakuguo challenged and it made something within me click.
"You think this is the only thing I'm capable of…? Don't kid yourself… Ka-chan" I replied teasing the poor explosive boy that I know will get him pissed off.
"No summoner, please reconsider… you cannot actually be thinking of summoning one of the Grade 3s?" Lulu asked arriving at my side with her arms ready to cast spells to help me deal with my classmate.
"…" I had nothing to reply to her and that was indicating she is right.
"We can still take this guy on, there is no need to call upon the greater ones to help us" Lulu tried to convince me, but I had made up my mind. Bakuguo isn't going to let me punch him for free, or hurt him till I get satisfied.
"I am not going to kill him, Lulu… I just need to give him a taste of what actual pain feels like. The much-needed pain for him to feel what Flame Seed Salamander felt…" that made her shut her mouth, she knows I can't stop now after provoking Bakuguo to this extent.
"What's the hold-up?! KOLD!" Bakuguo made another huge explosion my way but luckily Issault was ready in the defense and tanked the attack like a pro.
"I retire Lulu, Elaine, Issault, Barcgal and Flame Seed Salamander" 5 simultaneous cards glowed and I retrieved all of the cards with a backward leap avoiding a punch from Bakuguo upon using the smoke he made as a cover.
"Call… The Holy Dragon that will invoke fear to the hearts of the Brave!" A sudden build-up of energy started to envelop me, and it even made my surroundings shake a bit. My eyesight started to get disoriented, and my body was slowly becoming numb but I shook all of it to get this summoning right.
"The fuck are you doing!?" Bakuguo started to dash forward with explosions in his hand ready to fire at a moment's notice.
"SOUL SA-" all of it was cut off and with no stamina, for me to stand. I fell to the ground with a thud. 'I was pretty sure I could summon her…' and that was the end of it, black had welcomed me.
3rd Person's POV
A ghostly figure of a White Dragon standing in two and is also highlighted by blue armor had gained the attention of every student at UA. "Wow, what is that?! Is that someone's quirk in action!" the students from all levels had thought the same things more or less.
However, the ghostly figure's appearance also managed to gain the teacher's too. "Looks like one of the Hero course kids is taking up a mile," Snipe said looking out of the window which he had the advantage of seeing the ghostly figure, while he was teaching the class.
A surge of energy boomed the whole school, the alarms were blaring on high alert making the heroes and other students wary that there might be a villain attack but the heroes teaching each of the class handled their students well enough to not cause a panic like last time it happened.
However, when the sudden surge of energy appeared Class 1-A's homeroom teacher was running as fast as he can towards the direction of the ghost dragon. He made it his top priority to be first on the scene and when he finally made it, he didn't hesitate using his quirk to cancel Kold's summoning and Bakuguo's explosion.
"What the hell happened?!" Bakuguo screamed having his quirk relinquished made him mad yet again.
"I've erased both of your quirks. You two will have a lot of explaining to do…" Mr. Aizawa said with his red eyes and standing hair still glaring daggers at both his students.
Mr. Aizawa had used his capture tape on the fallen body of Kold dragging the boy with him while deactivating his quirk and making Bakuguo follow him without much of a fuss. He understood that what they both did was definitely fucked up and it made him kind of furious that he let it get to this. Although, he didn't regret attacking that stupid lizard by flaunting how much of a powerhouse the little thing is.
"Mr. Aizawa, what happened? And I thought you were injured, how can you still use your capture tape?!" Midoriya approached the teacher as he was entering class to announce that they were all dismissed because of one incident involving two of their classmates. It was obvious who was involved but they were kind of worried for their classmates, especially Midoriya because those two were his friends from childhood, except the other one is prideful and the other distanced himself from them. Their relationships with each other were kind of whack and it made Midoriya slightly embarrassed because of it.
"I've got it covered, how about you tell everyone to continue their training and after time is done then you all can head home," the homeroom teacher said while dragging both his somewhat friends in his capture tape. "Also, I'm not that injured. The old lady tends to get overboard with her treatments"
"Yes sir… but what will happen to Kold and Kacchan?" the student asked worried that both of his friends from childhood will be in trouble for this act towards each other.
"Depending on what happened here, there will be punishment and there will be a serious violation against aggressive behavior towards students if proven, but you don't have to worry about that. I'll handle it from here" The teacher dismissed Midoriya to run off and spread the news to his classmates.
'Supposedly using quirk on campus does not intend to sound the alarms, but what Kold did trigger it… We really need to get to the bottom of how this kid's quirk activates. If this keeps happening over and over again the media won't shut up about UA, not up-to-standard security'
The pro hero had covered Bakuguo's mouth to prevent his student from spouting noises and while he was at it, he captured the other problem child who was lying unconscious on the ground. Looks like the kid exhausted himself and he also caused a commotion within school grounds. Can't say his punishment will be light, but he will definitely receive one.
Midoriya had found Iida passing through and in an effort to stop the speedy student he raised his hand to gain the attention of the said student. "Iida! Wait up, Mr. Aizawa has an announcement he'd like to announce to the class"
The running class rep halted in his training, "What did Mr. Aizawa say Midoriya?" he asked pushing his glasses up and standing completely still. "Does he ask me to do anything for the class regarding the earlier incident?"
"Well, he said that we could head home after class is done, and I think we don't have to worry about what happened earlier. Mr. Aizawa said he got it covered" The greenette replied clearly trying to convince himself that his teacher has everything covered, and that could mean a lot of things for both his friend's career in this institution.
The class rep had understood what must he do, and that was the cue for him to run with dust following him behind as he sprints. "Talk about eating dirt… right Iida?" Midoriya said humoring himself because of Iida's self-awareness.
Although Mr. Aizawa made him temporarily forget about what will happen to his friends, it does not stop the fact that it can haunt him again. Like this moment, the thought of both his friends be expelled is haunting him. The thing that they both did might have caused the teachers to view it as a terrorist attack, or much worse a villain attack.
It hasn't been long when UA had been raided with villains who were terribly unsuccessful, this could potentially spell doom to both of them, and thus their career of being heroes will be ruined.
Kold's POV
I never really knew how I got into this mess in the first place. All I could remember was that I was really angry at Bakuguo for hurting Flame Seed Salamander, then I attempted to summon a grade 3, and finally, I passed out. That was it.
However, now I am in front of the principal after just waking up at the infirmary with Recovery Girl's help in waking me up with her cane, telling me that I had enough rest to last the day. Now, I am in front of the principal with Mr. Aizawa and with an angry-faced Bakuguo that was staring at me like it was my fault that we were both in here.
If he didn't attack my unit, then we wouldn't be in this mess. "As you both know, fighting amongst yourselves is strictly prohibited under any circumstances. UA is a top school wherein future heroes are trained, and when word gets out that two of our students, from the hero course, no doubt will stir quite a commotion. So, as punishment, you both will be entitled to have detention for a month and not to mention cleaning duties on the weekends" Principal Nezu said stirring the tea he made and sipping it gradually while talking to us.
"You both are in a lot of trouble, be thankful that the principal is giving you a slap in the back for the stunt that you both have pulled. If it were me… you both will serve a much deadlier punishment" Mr. Aizawa said with his eyes turning red and hair floating up. "That's all… Bakuguo can head home now, and you Kold will stay. We still have a lot of things to talk about"
It made me confuse really, it doesn't make sense as to why I have to stay while explosive gets to walk out of here. I still need to feed myself after this, damn it. "I know you must be eager to head home, but I still have yet to talk about an important matter," Principal Nezu said with all seriousness in his voice, and you can somehow feel a sinister aura radiating from the unknown creature.
"What do you mean sir? I thought all this mess is sorted out, we get to clean the school on weekends and detention after school days. Am I still in trouble for something?" I asked hastily, but I still minded my manners. Mom taught me that no matter how stressed or upset I am, we still need to be respectful to others, especially those who already have aged.
"Yes, that is already settled, but we have a matter at hand that is entirely different from that event." Mr. Aizawa replied, grabbing a handful of papers from the principal's desk and handing it to me.
"What is this sir?" I asked curious at the paper handed to me, I read the first paragraph and it looks to me that it was the statements we have given during the USJ attack.
"You're looking at your classmate's testimony from the USJ attack, and one of them mentioned a summoned unit of yours getting badly hurt. However, in your testimony, you failed to speak such a thing ever occurring." Looks like I know where this is headed, they are going to talk about why I failed to inform them of Jarren. "I am here to ask why? Clearly, that attack may traumatize you, but that is also the exact reason as to why you cannot forget something as important as that detail" Principal Nezu really hit the spot right in the middle of it. I guess you really can't underestimate a creature with high specs for a quirk.
"Because… that unit is dead… I never mentioned it to the detective because he is dead. I couldn't bear the thought that it was my fault that he died that day." I said looking down in shame for what happened to him. They will definitely feel disappointed in me because I caused someone to die in my watch, and it was my unit nonetheless.
"…" a complete silence enveloped the room and no one dared to speak after that.
"I'm sorry… we shouldn't have pried" Principal Nezu said cutting the awkward silence with his sympathetic voice. "If we were fast enough to reach you student's in time none of these would have happened to you, I deeply apologize for your loss."
"No… it wasn't your fault. I should have been strong enough to know that we were dealing with the big guys, and I shouldn't have attacked with Jarren. I … should…-"
"That's enough, what you did was good enough. We pros are the ones who were to blame, you're still young and growing, you shouldn't be exposed to that kind of environment for such a young age, and that includes your classmates as well. If there was definitely at fault… it's us. So, stop blaming yourself. Your unit's death is on our hands… not yours" Mr. Aizawa said, cutting my rambling as to how it wasn't my fault.
"Besides, have you read what your classmate had said, especially Tsuyu Asui… she said if it weren't for you, the villain would have definitely gotten her killed. You may have lost someone, but don't forget that you also saved a person's life" he continued, and I felt him pat my head for comfort.
I didn't know what to say, I didn't even realize that I saved someone… no, not me… Jarren saved someone. It was all his doing not mine… I was just the one who gave the command and Jarren suffered because of it.
"How about we continue this discussion at a later date? You head home for now and we'll talk after the festival" Principal Nezu suggested and it was agreed by Mr. Aizawa. "And if you must know… using your quirks is okay as long as it doesn't distract your fellow classmates and teachers"
Everything was moving too fast for my liking… At first, they made me talk about the death of Jarren which opened wounds that I was starting to move on from. Then, I have cleaning duty during the weekends, late cleaning during the weekdays, also detention, and to top it all off Bakuguo will also be part of that schedule. Which I am not particularly thrilled…
It was also my fault per se because I couldn't control my anger and hastily tried to summon an overpowered unit that could wipe out mountains when provoked. However, it was unfair that they had not directly reprimanded Bakugo for assaulting one of my units. I guess I should have been grateful enough that he also gets to be punished for this.
I opened the door to my room and just what Recovery Girl said I immediately plopped down onto bed without the need for dinner. I was too tired to prepare one, and it was past dinner time. I could just skip it and have a very heavy breakfast, tomorrow will be another day of hero training.
