I hope everyone enjoys reading this!
Alistair Theirin, former Grey Warden tried his best to calm down his nerves as he entered the local pub in Kirkwall. He had developed feelings towards a man who he had been having drinks with quite regularly.
His drinking companion was quite attractive with short, messy, black hair, pretty green eyes, a slender yet fit build and had a scar on his forehead in the shape of a lightning bolt. The man's name was Harry, Harry was in his mid twenties , he was nice, he was polite, interesting and he would listen to Alistair whenever he would talk about what he had experienced during the Blight.
During his now many drinking sessions with Harry Alistair had found out that Harry was a mage who had originally lived in another world , Alistair had been told this when Harry had been drunk and when they had been alone. Alistair wasn't sure if he believed this about Harry but he wasn't about to tell anyone , especially not any of the Kirkwall Templars.
He liked everything about Harry. He had been meeting Harry for drinks for a year now and despite that the only things they did together was talk and drink he was certain that he had definitely fallen in love with his friend.
Harry was constantly on his mind, he was attracted to the other man, he enjoyed the time that they spent together and a lot of the time found himself wanting to be more than just friends with him.
He wanted to tell Harry of his romantic feelings for him, he wanted to ask the man out on a date but so far, he hadn't done it.
Alistair couldn't help but smile when he saw Harry sitting at their usual table, he was drinking a glass of beer and Alistair saw that Harry was looking as though he was waiting impatiently for someone.
Alistair felt happy knowing that it was him who Harry was probably waiting around for.
A happy and relieved expression smile appeared on Harry's face when he caught sight of Alistair.
"Hey Alistair", said Harry.
"Hey" said Alistair in return as he soon joined Harry at the table. "Have…Have you been here for very long?" he asked.
Harry shook his head, "Not long, just started on my first beer"
They both were soon quiet and it wasn't long before Alistair got up out of his seat for a few minutes to order a beer and afterwards returned to their table.
Alistair was quiet as he stared across the table into Harry's vivid and beautiful green eyes, his hands holding onto his first glass of beer as he started to drink it.
While Alistair and Harry drank together Alistair was unusually quiet. In his head he was thinking that he wanted to at last confess to Harry but would that really be such a great idea?
He was a Grey Warden afterall, he had tainted blood, cursed blood, what kind of relationship could he have with someone when he would only live for another twenty or thirty more years? It wouldn't be fair and would only end in tragedy and heartbreak for the both of them. Then there was also the risk of Harry's magic one day being found out by the Templars , if that were to ever happen Harry would be taken away from him and be forced to live in a tower.
However, despite thinking that this might not be such a good idea he decided to do it anyway, he decided to just say it and hope it didn't lead to something he would regret later.
"Hey…um…Harry…um…can I…can I say something? Something…um…sort of…very important?" Alistair said.
Harry nodded. "Yes, of course you can Alistair"
Harry then put aside his drink of beer down for the moment and looked directly at Alistair.
Alistair felt himself nervous as he then struggled to put his feelings into words.
"Um…you know how we've been meeting up for drinks for a while now? Well…Well…I…I…I think I'm…I think I'm falling in love with you"
A shocked and surprised expression appeared on Harry's face, and soon he frowned.
Harry was silent for a couple of moments before he spoke, "Um..I..I like you too Alistair , I care for you very much but right now I just see you as a friend. I'm sorry"
"Oh…Oh, okay…" said Alistair, feeling heartbroken.
Harry looked sad, "I'm sorry Alistair..Will you be okay?"
Alistair nodded, and though he was fighting back tears he nodded. "Yes, yes I think I will be."
Harry gave a sigh, "I'll understand…I'll understand if you want to stop these drinking sessions of ours…I will understand if you don't want….don't want to be friends anymore"
Panic and sadness filled Alistair's insides at the very thought of not seeing Harry anymore, of never having their drinking sessions again. He didn't want to lose his friend that he had made during all his visits to Kirkwall.
"What? No! I still want to drink with you Harry even…even if you don't love me the same way as I love you and even if it's just as friends"
"But…But Alistair…Are you…Are you sure that's what you want?" asked Harry, now looking concerned and uncertain.
Alistair nodded again, "Yes. Yes, it is…don't worry. Don't worry about me…I'll be fine."
"Okay…"
Alistair and Harry shared several moments of awkward silence between them, drinking again and when they talked for the rest of the night they talked only of trivial topics of conversation.
Alistair and Harry continued to meet up for drinks despite Alistair's romantic feelings for his friend and eventually one day it didn't hurt Alistair anymore.
