Jay

Jay woke up suddenly, as he heard one of his foxes calling out to him. "Jay?" Diamond again? He sighed. "Yes?" He asked standing up and stretching. "Well um I" She stuttered. "What?" He asked. "Well, um, a hunting group went out. Across the Lake Line," she added when she saw Jay narrow his eyes. "And they haven't returned. We're thinking of sending out a search party. If you're ok with that of course!" Jay nodded his head and turned around to think. Diamond scampered out of his den and started forming a search party. Are there really monsters beyond the Lake Line? Surely not. Years ago foxes hunted in that land. They lived in that land. But still. Jay had a weird feeling that something had happened to them. Suddenly, he found himself wondering, who was in that group? He hoped it wasn't someone he knew. Well. Stepping out of his den he looked at the food pile. It was still dangerously low. Snowfall is so close! We could die from lack of good food. A few rabbits and a few mice were left. Cyclone has better prey and more prey. They could at least share some with us. Maybe… he paused and looked for the nearest fox. "Splash?" He called out to a thin fox who was walking across the shore of the lake. "Yes?" Splash hurried over and dipped his head. "I need you to go to Cranberry and tell him to meet me at the Rock Lake tomorrow at sunset, okay?" Splash looked nervous but nodded his head and scampered away, in the direction of the Rock Lake. Would they get mad at him for crossing on their territory? Surely not. They send messengers a lot! Something flashed in the corner of his eye. He whipped around, but there was nothing there. Now my eyes are playing tricks on me! As he turned back around, he saw something lying on the group. It was a piece of smooth rock. On it, someone had scraped out a word. Just as Jay was about to peer at it, he heard a voice behind him. "Help! Please help me!" Jay turned around and nearly smacked his face in the wall of his den. "Anyone there?" He called out. No one answered. Looking back at the stone he read it 'Help!' It read. Jay froze. What is this message… and… what was it for…?
