Waking up was anything but peaceful. I jolted upright from the soft hospital bed, my telekinesis crackling with unease as a gust of wind swirled around the room.
As I looked around the room in a slight panic, a nurse rushed in, trying to calm me down.
"Where is my mom!" I asked frantically, to which I received a calm, practised reassurance.
Not resisting as the nurse grabbed hold of my hand, she led me through the white corridors of the hospital, soon stopping in front of a door.
As the nurse opened the door, allowing me to step through, I saw my mother lying on a hospital bed. She had bandages wrapped around most of her body, covering her legs and lower body, with glimpses of her charred skin peeking through the gaps. Her left leg was bandaged after being damaged by the massive weight of the tree. An array of monitors surrounded her and as I registered the rhythmic beeping noise from the monitors, I found that I was standing at the foot of the bed. I hadn't even noticed. Staring at her face, where tubes channelled oxygen into her system, a numb sensation flooded me.
As I burned the sight of my unconscious mother into my mind, photographic recollection reflexively activating, and as my unresponsive form was led out of the room by the same nurse, I gained a new resolve. I had almost lost my mother, the only reason that I managed to save her was because of my ultimate power. But what if adaptation wasn't enough the next time? What if then next time, I wasn't strong enough, what if I couldn't save my mother, or Kokomi.
I wouldn't let something like this happen again. But even then, I was smart enough to know that I couldn't protect them from the world's evils, but what I could do was to make sure I was strong enough to shield them when that evil came for them. This didn't mean that I wouldn't do everything in my power to make sure that nothing happened in the first place.
Looking up towards the nurse who was leading me, I asked about what happened since I fell asleep.
1 week later
I had apparently been unconscious for 17 hours, after pushing my body to a degree that caused my body shut down. I had remained in the hospital for a couple of days before being shipped off to be with my maternal grandparents for the time being.
My mother woke up on the 2nd day, and I found out that she was going to be okay. Her leg was damaged to such a degree that it would take months if not years to repair it to a functional degree.
Kokomi had also been staying at our grandparent's house along with Makoto and I, and we had been allowed to visit mom 2 times over this week, and we had discussed what to do now.
Mom had been informed that she would be released in a couple of weeks, but she was worried that she wouldn't be able to continue her modelling career until she had been completely healed. She reassured us that she had a decent amount of money saved up, so we didn't have to worry about money.
Even though I was extremely reluctant to do so, my twin and I decided that we would help in any way we could, and so my mother called her agency, and soon they had a deal. Kokomi and I had several modelling gigs starting this following week. And I've decided that I may as well go all out, my reasoning?
'I'll be the best model they will ever have and then when mom is back on her feet I will quit, and then no matter how much they beg for me to come back, I'll just laugh at them! Silently….'
Not to mention, It would be great to see my sister's face when she realises that I'm better than my "angel" of a twin at her dream job.
I wasn't delusional enough to think that I could achieve this without abusing my powers. So I decided that for next week. I would go back on my promise of not using my quirk to get myself some cosmetic powers.
But first I needed to claim a perk with my current energy build-up. So as I sit in the room which my sister and I are sharing at our grandparent's house, I activate my quirk.
Pick one out of two perks (8 days. Energy enough for low (grade 2), perk)
Visualisation (level 1) You have a talent for visualisation.
Animal affinity (level 1) You have a natural affinity to animals, which makes them easier to handle.
Well, I knew what I would be picking. Although having an affinity for animals sounded great, I knew visualisation would be a great skill to have.
'But first'
Perks:
(Passive):
Captivating eyes (level max) Your eyes are beautiful with a supernatural depth to them. They capture attention, making others want to stare into your eyes.
Enhanced Reflexes ((level 5) +10 reflex) Your reaction time is increased.
Flawless skin (level max) Your skin has no flaws.
Greater Constitution ((level 2) +4 constitution) Peak health, contributes to correct bodily function with less need for sustenance. Encourages growth in height, muscle mass, and otherwise optimal growth to everything else. Stamina is increased.
Shatterpoint (level 7) You have the ability to instinctively perceive structural weak points.
Unbreakable Will ((level max)) The user has an unbreakable willpower, he will never falter and will never stray from outside pressure.
(Active):
Adaptation (Level 1) Your desperation drives you to become stronger in order to survive. The more intense the desperation, the faster you grow and adapt.
Advanced perception (level 4) Time slows down in your perception, allowing you to have a longer time to think.
Photographic recollection (level 2) You can take "pictures" of things in your vision to view at a later date.
Minor healing (level 17) You can heal injuries: small cuts, bruises, scrapes, burns, muscle tears, dislocated bones etc.
(Active/passive):
Intermediate Inventory (level 7) You have your own pocket dimension where you can store inanimate objects. Current capacity is a total of 4.5 cubic metres.
Intermediate Telekinesis field (level 52) an area around you which allows you to move things with your mind. The field is passive, and the psychic grip is active. Current capacity: 570 kg.
Even though the circumstances of the growth of telekinesis and my healing skill were less than desirable, I still couldn't help but feel satisfied at their progress.
'Option 1'
Making my choice, the world unfroze once more, and without waiting a moment i tested out my new talent.
Conjuring up an image in my mind was no issue, and even as I added more complex details to said image, It still remained stable, although it did put a strain on my mind. After the strain became a little too much, the image started falling apart. I knew that I could force myself to continue because of my immense willpower, but I decided that this was enough for now. I would improve my visualisation when I'm bored.
Alright, 6 days of cosmetics.
-6 days later-
And I'd done just that. During this last week, I had claimed 6 different perks, including today.
2 of them were ones that would take effect later. The first was that I was going to be about 6'1 if I got the right nutrition, the second said that I would have straight white teeth, which was good, actually.
3 other ones made my face symmetrical, made my smile brighter, and my nose and ears proportioned to my face. None of these really made that big of a difference, but it would still have some effect, I believed.
The last one was a little odd. It was called "Vocal Range" which unlike the others wasn't a cosmetic feature, but it seemed useful nonetheless as it allowed me to have a high vocal range.
Anyway, I was supposed to go to the modelling studio now.
As I followed my sister out the door, I saw Ms Yamamoto sitting in a car in our driveway.
'Ugh' I groaned quietly before taking a bracing breath, and walking towards our ride.
Kokomi snickered beside me as she saw my undoubtedly resigned expression.
Glaring at her for a few seconds, I soon gained a vicious smirk as I had a thought.
'I became a lot more agile on that day, due to adaption, and since we haven't been to the dojo since, my precious twin has no idea what is coming for her the next time we spar.'
A concerned and slightly fearful look appeared in her eyes, as mine gained a dangerous glint. "What is that look about?!"
-2 weeks later-
My mother was being released from the hospital today, and even as we waited, we were becoming antsy.
Which was why I was unsurprised when Kokomi took hold of me and dragged me off towards the backyard, plucking both of our white gi on the way.
She didn't say anything, just beckoning me to change into mine, while she did the same.
Soon we stood in front of one another, our blue hair blowing in the wind as we got into the practised stances of our martial arts school. We hadn't sparred since our birthday and even in the lessons which we had attended, we hadn't been paired up together.
Which was why I was noticeably more excited for this than I usually was. I hadn't had the chance to show off my new physical ability for over a month. Now that I thought about it, I would need to explain it to her, and my mother at least. 'Come to think of it, how would I do that?'
*Sigh* 'Do I need to tell them about my quirk? It feels weird to even think about it since I've kept it a secret for so long'
In hindsight, getting lost in thought wasn't a smart thing to do when you were about to fight. Which I learned when the heel of a foot appeared in my vision.
'Oh'
I wouldn't have been fast enough to dodge this a couple of weeks ago, but thanks to adaptation, I was just fast enough to move my face backwards, far enough that I only felt the displacement of air.
Taking a step back to regain my bearings. I look back at the fractionally widened eyes of my sister. I shouldn't have been able to avoid that.
She quickly shook off her surprise, coming at me again, though more carefully this time as she threw a probing left jab towards me.
Blocking her, to me, slow punch with startling ease, I go on the offensive by grabbing hold of the wrist of that same fist, pulling her towards me, and sending a knee towards her approaching form.
She managed to block it by bringing her other hand down on it. But I could tell that she was startled by the force of that blow, and was as such unprepared for the hook that came from the same hand which had pulled her towards me.
She staggered backwards, her arms came up to protect her face, which I capitalised on immediately. I followed up with a kick to the side of her stomach, and as she bent over my leg and tried to recover, I pushed off the ground with my other leg. A knee planting itself painfully into her ribs.
Crying out in pain, Kokomi lashed out wildly with her clenched fists.
Batting away a fist, I quickly avoided her pained flailing as I took a step backwards as my foot touched the ground.
Retreating slightly from her. I meet the furious and bewildered gaze of my twin. This must be very confusing to her, since I was almost a third faster than I was before. And I'd been faster than her before that, too.
Much more wary than before. Kokomi takes a more focused and cautious stance facing me, and I notice the wince she tries to hide as her ribs flare up when she shifts.
Usually my style relies on counters and evasion, whereas Kokomi usually fights more aggressively. But as she winces from the pain, I decide to go on the offensive for a change.
Stepping towards her with swift movements, I go in for a feint with my left, which she attempts to block. Spinning with the momentum of my feint, I kick her left chin with enough force to get her to gasp and attempt to flee.
Following after her retreat, I send practised strikes her way, most of which she blocks as she attempts to backpedal.
Being too caught up at the moment, I don't see the jab which lands on my face. As I stagger slightly, my flow interrupted, she has enough time to make some distance.
Scolding myself slightly, I go back into the fray with more seriousness than before, not limiting my agility.
"Thud"
Unable to keep up with my superior speed, she is too late to avoid the sweeping kick, which sends her to the ground with a muted thud.
As she breathes heavily from the grassy ground, I smile down at her mockingly. Responding with a glare, she stares up at me before huffing and conceding.
"I yield."
Smiling brightly, I offer her a hand, which she takes. As I pull her up to her feet, I can see from her expression that she has questions. And as she opens her mouth to speak, I breathe out a sigh, nodding silently in understanding.
Tugging her along into the house, we settle on the couch. 'How do I begin?'
As I think about how to phrase the explanation, I finally settle on the direct approach.
"My quirk isn't telekinesis."
"…?"
As Kokomi looks at me weirdly, opening her mouth to speak, I hold up a palm, signalling for her to let me continue.
"I unlocked my quirk sometime after you did, maybe a couple of days after. And It finally manifested noticeably a couple of weeks after our 4th birthday. The world around me… froze, and then text started appearing in my vision, telling me to 'pick a perk', enhanced intelligence or beauty".
Stopping there, I figured that she could put the pieces together on her own. My sister was no genius, but she wasn't stupid. So I wasn't surprised when the dots quickly connected behind her eyes, and they widened in shock.
Looking at me incredulously, I nodded in confirmation to her silent question.
Deciding to offer a demonstration, I hold up an empty palm in front of her. And as she gazed down at my empty palm… which wasn't so empty any more as a packet of gum appeared in an instant, without any warning.
I opened the pack before popping one of them into my mouth, smirking smugly at her while chewing. After basking in her stunned expression for a while, I engaged in an explanation of my current knowledge of my quirk to her shocked mind.
We sat silently for a couple of minutes as she processed the information. As she opened her mouth to ask more questions, she was interrupted by the sound of a car pulling up into the driveway, followed by the opening of our garage doors.
Rushing through the house, we burst through the door leading to the garage, followed shortly by Makoto, who came rushing down the stairs and through the door after us.
Both doors opened, a wheelchair floated out from the right side, positioning itself in front of the other door. My mother pushed herself from the car into the seat and took a few breaths.
As she rotated the chair, she spotted us in the doorway. And as a smile lit up her face, she began wheeling towards us. The doors closed behind her with an absent use of her quirk.
Rushing past the other two, I hugged my mother, followed by my siblings.
After hugging for a while, Makoto took hold of the handles and led her through the open doorway, my twin and I followed after. I looked back to see the garage door closing as mom used her phone.
Following my family into the dining room, we talked about our situation for a while before I was asked if I could cook, which I had no qualms about, setting off to make a meal.
As I was almost finished, I asked Kokomi if she could lay the table, she did as asked but averted her eyes when they met mine, I could tell that she was still confused and conflicted about what to feel. I knew my twin well enough to tell most of her emotions, and prominent among the ones I could see was jealousy, something not often seen in her.
After bringing out the hearty meal, we settled into a comfortable silence, which was only disrupted several minutes later as Kokomi, who was sitting next to me, finally lost her patience.
"This is so unfair!"
A deafening silence ensued. Kokomi never outwardly complained, in fact, she hadn't really done so for a few years, except for the occasional session of ranting to me in an effort to let out steam. She was seen as this "perfect girl" to those around us, this was especially true for Makoto, who basically worshipped the ground that she walked on, that annoying siscon.
While Makoto was looking at my twin in a stupor, my mother, meanwhile, unperturbed by the outburst, followed Kokomi's intense gaze to me, tilting her head in confusion.
Looking at my twin with minor annoyance, I decided that now was as good a time as any.
"My quirk is not telekinesis, it's a result of my actual quirk."
Everyone focused on me, even Makoto, who had snapped out of his state of shocked staring.
"When we were in the playground, and Makoto went to grab Kokomi, I got angry. Activating my quirk in the process. As it activated, I was presented with two choices of powers. The one I chose was called 'Weak Telekinesis field'. My quirk has regained it's power several times since then, and I have used it accordingly."
As I end my explanation, I once again demonstrate one of these powers by putting my glass in my inventory, before summoning it into my hand once more.
Taking in my recent revelations, I could see my mother and brother trying to comprehend all of it.
Abruptly, I could see something click into place behind my mother's eyes, and her beautiful face, which had been contemplative just moments ago, gained a terror-stricken expression as the most heartbreakingly desperate gasp I could ever imagine escaped her lips. Her eyes locked onto mine, her delicate features morphing into an incredibly grave expression as her entire body tensed up.
"Kaito. Does anybody else know about your quirk?" She asks, her tone carrying a deadly seriousness which frightened my siblings and I on an instinctive level.
"N-no"
At my response, I could see a large amount of tension leave her shoulders as she slumped into her seat. Yet some still remained, same with her expression, which hadn't lost the seriousness from before.
Looking me deep into my eyes, I swore that she was peering into my soul. "You will never, I repeat NEVER. Tell anybody about it. Do you understand what I am saying?" Turning to my sibling, she met their eyes, her eyes demanding obedience. "The same goes for you two, NEVER mention this to anybody."
Nodding timidly in response, all three of us agreed to her demands, yet confusion filled us. Why?
Seeing the fearful yet confused expressions on our faces, she offered an explanation.
"A power like this. It's something that a lot of people would go to great lengths to acquire. Some people would do just about anything to get a hold of you, and if they can't have you…" Trailing off, she took a deep breath.
"You can never reveal your power to anyone. Because if you do, and the wrong people find out… Your life, along with everyone around you, will be in great danger. Do you understand me?"
As a silence settled over the room, the three of us nodded wordlessly once again. My mind raced furiously, I hadn't really considered this before, but now that I had this understanding, dozens of scenarios appeared in just a few seconds, and as the seconds turned to minutes, my face grew increasingly pale.
Although my first perk granted me a greater intellect, that didn't mean that I had gained more experience, now though, my intelligent mind was on full throttle, throwing many nightmarish scenarios my way.
Looking at the solemn expression on my siblings' faces, I excused myself. I needed to let out some steam.
Picking up the dishes, I put them into the dishwasher before walking outside into our backyard.
Summoning more than half of my water reserve from my inventory, I reached out and attempted to hold all of it above the ground. Some of it slipped out of my grasp, yet I managed to hold most of it aloft as I channelled all of my concentration, my telekinesis reaching its utmost carrying capacity.
As I steadied myself, the liquid started flowing in different directions, conforming into the shape of an almost perfect sphere. 'Visualisation is much easier, I can do this much.'
Pulling a stream of water from the levitating liquid, I split it up into several sections, concentrating with effort, as different shapes tried to take form. Most of them just wobbled uncontrollably as the difficulty increased along with the amount of things to focus on. 'I really need to practise multitasking.'
Soon, beads of sweat began appearing on my forehead and I felt a headache start to set in. It was unpleasant, yet the pain was preferable to suffering from the scenarios that appeared in my mind.
Hearing the muffled rustling sound of grass being disturbed behind me, I merge all the different masses of water into a larger one.
Looking backwards, while trying to keep my concentration, I meet the sky blue eyes of my mother as she comes to a stop with the help of the brakes.
"We need to discuss something, son." In a stark contrast to her frantic and later stern tone, her voice was now calm and soothing.
Although it didn't really ease my worries, It was relieving to not hear as much of the tenseness from earlier.
Nodding silently at her, I summoned the hovering water towards me in a stream. Absorbing the water back into my inventory, I looked back at my mother who eyed the empty air, evidently not accustomed to my powers.
Beckoning me to follow her, she wheeled towards the corner of our yard where a beautiful Siebold maple tree stood.
Walking after, I looked silently at the ground as she once again turned around to face me.
"… We need to consider your future"
Looking up, I saw her staring at the roof of green leaves above us.
Ruffling my hair awkwardly I nod, before realising she's looking up, settling on an abashed quiet "ok".
Looking down at me once more, she elaborated. "I know that you have aspirations of becoming a hero. Maybe that is the best course of action if you need to learn to protect yourself, yet this path would draw more attention to you, especially if you are in a situation which forces you to reveal something that you would rather not."
Quieting down, as to let me think on It, I looked down at the soft grass beneath my feet as I considered my options.
On one hand, she was right, I would learn to protect myself, with the addition of having access to other heroes to protect me. Though I would draw a lot of attention with just my telekinesis, not to mention if my real quirk was revealed. I also enjoyed the thought of helping people.
On the other hand, if I remained outside the hero life, attempting to keep a low profile. I could possibly grow my set of abilities to the point where I could protect myself. The problem with this was that I wouldn't really learn how to fight other people with quirks, which would be especially catastrophic if I was discovered anyway. I could go into more academically inclined careers, or like construction maybe? This didn't sound very tempting to be honest, I'd dreamed of being a hero after all.
I could go vigilante, which would allow me to gain experience, but would put me in danger and draw a massive target on my back. This was a dangerous route to take, it would make me an enemy to both villains and heroes, but it was an option nonetheless.
Going Villain was out of the question, I don't think that I could bring myself to purposefully harm those who had done me no wrong.
'What other options do I have…. Supporter maybe?'
I could probably get into a support course if I studied enough, not to mention the possible perks I will get in the future. This would allow me to be close to the heroes, which would grant me protection, and I could also disguise some of my powers as gadgets. It would also allow me to help people. I'm sure that it would allow me some combat experience, at least if I went to U.A, since they have the sports festival. On the flip side, this also had the disadvantage of putting a smaller, yet still present target on my back.
'So… become a hero, hide as a civilian, become a vigilante or become a supporter.'
So that's Chapter 3. I've discovered that I'm not great at this writing thing, but I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless.
So I have a query. How old should Kaito be by the time Canon starts? His age, more than any other character, affects how powerful he is. I was thinking about having him be a couple of years older than class 1A, though that would make him pretty strong by the time canon rolls around
I'll not show the perk stats from now on if nobody requests it. It's just filling up the word count, which isn't what I want.
To address the concerns about me being willing to kill Kaito. It probably won't happen.
I should have probably expressed it differently. I don't know how this story will progress, let alone end.
Thanks for the reviews!
Uvuvwevwevwe Onyeteneyevwe Ugwe: Wow I had a difficult time spelling this. Those are some good suggestions which I will consider. I'll insert my power scale at the bottom so you get an Idea about the time for different powers.
Random Badass: He will indeed become OP, which he was always meant to be eventually.
ShadowStalker3424: Sounds good. I do not post anywhere else since I read solely on here because of the tts feature.
TheSystemFan: There is a strong possibility of that happening, and if not, his minor healing will be able to eventually if he uses it enough.
Tarnork: Dunno what Celestial Forge is, but I can guess what power manipulation is. You right, he won't get soul energy from that unless he gets an ultimate power much later on to steal it, I'd say about 12 years of energy, which he probably won't reach in this story. I've come to a conclusion that MHA was the wrong choice of story to put a character with this ability in, since the power ceiling is pretty low.
Withered13: With his power, it is inevitable for him to become OP eventually. Though there are some broken abilities in MHA.
Dennis Spiral-flame 55: Yes most of them are OC's except Kokomi and Makoto, who are from Saiki-K. Also, don't worry, I am not aiming to kill off my character. It likely won't happen actually.
Fluffiest: It didn't happen this time, everybody else had already run and there was no way somebody could have followed him in the chaos while he flew.
MustrumRidcully: He is more intelligent than a child, about at the level of an average 17-year-old, which doesn't mean that he is supernaturally intelligent. And to answer your question. I feel like I need to become better at describing the environment. In my mind, they were on an asphalt road, so digging wasn't my first thought.
VincentFS: I do, and I am sorry about that, don't really know what that means though. Tips would be welcome.

There is my scale of powers. If you knew that you could get ultimate 3 grade power, it would undoubtedly be the smartest thing to go for. But Kaito doesn't know the limits of his quirk. And he doesn't know that he can get godlike powers if he waits long enough.
Suggest changes to the scale if you have any in mind.
