Erin walked into WWE headquarters feeling apprehensive. About to walk into an emergency board meeting, she had no idea what was going to be discussed. Whatever it was, good news was extremely unlikely. There would have been no point calling her dad and asking him what was going on. He wasn't the one who had called the meeting, so he probably didn't know.

After walking across the lobby, Erin caught an elevator just before it left. A member of the building's janitorial team was in there, along with a cart of cleaning supplies.

"Excuse me, Ms Voight. I'll get the next one," the woman said. In her early fifties maybe, her hair was grey and her face well worn, alluding to a life that had been tough. Erin was always on her own case to make sure she stayed down to earth. She considered it very important. The way this woman automatically assumed she was way beneath her, to the extent that sharing an elevator was assumed to be basically forbidden, troubled Erin.

"No, you're good," she said. "Just hit the button for the top floor for me, would you?"

"Sure," the woman said uneasily.

"I've never spoken to you before. What's your name?" Erin asked.

"Darlene," the woman said, obviously surprised to be asked. The elevator reached the floor that Darlene needed.

"Have a good day, Darlene," Erin said.

"Thank you, ma'am. You too."

Darlene pushed her cart out of the elevator and the doors closed again. Erin hoped she might have put a smile on her face, thinking that at least something positive might come from what seemed likely to not be a positive day.

The elevator proceeded up to the top floor, and Erin made her way straight to the boardroom. When she walked in, she found that most of the board members were already seated. Fresh coffee, water, and some light snacks were available, as was always the case. Sometimes board meetings could be quite long. Erin doubted this one would be.

She took her usual seat, on the right side of the table, second seat down from the head of the table, where Hank sat. Although his was the only official seating arrangement, everyone always ended up in the same places, simply because that was human behaviour.

There were muttered greetings and some small talk. Erin didn't participate much. She wanted to get on with the business at hand, whatever that was. The rest of the board members were soon seated, apart from Hank. He walked in last and took his place at the head of the table.

"Morning, everyone," Hank said professionally. "Thank you for attending this emergency board meeting at short notice. Eric, I believe it was you who called the meeting, so why don't you let us know what you wish to discuss?"

Erin looked at across the table Eric Bischoff, seated directly opposite her. He was in his mid fifties, a longstanding member of WWE's board and owner of an NFL team. He lifted a briefcase onto the table and extracted a manila folder. Then he extracted some papers from the folder and put them on the table.

In your own time, Erin thought, wanting to roll her eyes.

"Regretfully, Hank, it's you we need to talk about," Bischoff said.

There was a moment of heavy silence in the room. Erin found herself swallowing hard. Something bad was about to happen. She could feel it.

"In what way?" Hank asked, fixing Bischoff with a cold stare.

"The accounts department have made a very troubling discovery, Hank. Specifically, a payment of two million dollars in exchange for a non-disclosure agreement to a woman named Torrie Wilson, who I believe is a former PA of yours eight years ago?" Bischoff slid the papers across the table towards Hank, who didn't bother picking them up or looking at them.

Oh Christ, Erin thought, wanting to put her head in her hands. Her dad had been sleeping with an employee, and had paid her off to keep quiet about it after she quit her job.

"Yes, Ms Wilson was my PA. And yes, we have a non-disclosure agreement," Hank said, barely seeming phased by it.

"You used company funds to pay for it, Hank," Bischoff said. "And you did that without informing the board or stock holders. I'm calling a vote on launching a formal investigation. If the investigation finds against you, you know you'll have to step down."

Erin closed her eyes, feeling slightly nauseous. Right here, right now, they were talking about her dad potentially being kicked out of his own company. She also felt highly embarrassed by the revelations, by association to her father, although she of course had done nothing wrong.

Meanwhile, Hank reacted angrily. "Step down? I own eighty five per-cent of this damn company. You can have your vote on an investigation, but I won't be going anywhere."

"If it finds against you, you'll have no choice," said a male voice. Erin wasn't even sure who it was. She couldn't focus. Shock, she guessed.

"Call your damn vote," Hank snapped.

"Okay, by show of hands," Bischoff said, looking around the table. "Motion to launch an official investigation into Hank Voight's use of company funds for inappropriate reasons. Those in favour raise your hand."

Erin sighed and raised her hand. It was all she could do. The fact that Hank was her father had no relevance in this situation. She was in the room as a board member, and the kind of behaviour that was being talked about simply had to be investigated. Everyone else raised their hand too, she saw, including Hank who put his up last. With the majority already carrying the issue, he perhaps saw making it unanimous as somehow saving face.

"Unanimous," Bischoff declared.

There was discussion over how the investigation would proceed, and who would be assigned to it. Then there was debate about how to word the official statement that was going to have to be released online. Erin didn't contribute anything to either conversation. She sat there feeling increasingly angry at her dad for his stupidity, and increasingly worried about what now lay ahead. Based on what Bischoff had said, it seemed highly likely that the investigation would find against him. If it did, he would have to step down from the board. But then what? She had no idea what that would do to the company or who would end up in charge of it.

When the meeting was concluded, Erin got straight up and was the first one to leave the room. She was glad to get out of there. The atmosphere had seemed very oppressive, almost smothering her. Out in the hallway, she felt like she was breathing fresh air again. She stood with her back against the wall, hoping that giving her mind a few moments to sort itself out would help with the empty feeling in her stomach.

The other board members began to file past her, heading for the elevator to leave the building now that the morning's business was concluded. None of them said a word to her until the last person to leave stopped and put a hand on her shoulder. It was Lucy Thorne, an English businesswoman who owned an English soccer team, football team as they called it over there, as well as a chain of hotels. She was only a couple of years older than Erin, having inherited her businesses from her father when he had died of a heart attack. Erin had always found Lucy pleasant to deal with, although they had not interacted outside of WWE business.

"Are you okay, Erin?" Lucy asked compassionately in her posh-sounding English accent that Erin was quite jealous of. "That must have been bloody tough for you."

"I can't process it," Erin said, shaking her head. "Can't imagine what he was thinking."

"You look pale. Do you want me to arrange a driver to take you home?"

Erin appreciated the kindness, but she didn't want to appear weak in front of one of her peers. "Thank you. I really do appreciate that. I'll be fine though. Just need a minute to compose myself."

"Okay. Well, you have my number. Feel free to call me if you need someone to talk to."

"Thank you," Erin said. What she actually wanted to do, she was now quickly realising as the shock began to subside, was confront Hank. How could he have been dumb enough not only to sleep with a PA, but to then use company money to buy her silence?

As Lucy Thorne headed off towards the elevator, Erin set off in the opposite direction, towards Hank's office. She knew he must have gone there because he hadn't walked past her and the boardroom was now empty.

The door to Hank's office was closed when she got there. She barged in without knocking and slammed the door behind her. "Are there more?" she demanded, meaning more payments of company money to former employees he had slept with.

Hank was sitting behind his desk, looking like he didn't know what had hit him either. "Erin, now is not the time."

"The hell it isn't," Erin snapped. She had the Voight temper in her, although she kept a lid on it most of the time. "Are there more? There are, right?"

"You're on the board, Erin. I'm not talking to you about this."

"I'm not here because I'm on the board, God damn it! I'm your daughter!"

"Yeah, you're my daughter," Hank said, getting up. He walked over to her. "You're my daughter, and I love you. If you want to talk about this as my daughter, now is still not the time. Go home. Take the rest of today off. Why don't you come over to the house tomorrow and we'll talk then?"

Despite his flaws, Erin's love for her dad knew no bounds. They had gone through a lot together in life, and their bond had unfailingly been strong. She was not going to let that change now, even if she was angry with him for his foolishness, and probably his arrogance. He had probably figured he could do whatever he wanted with 'his' company. But when the company was publically traded, it just didn't work like that.

Erin hugged Hank, and he squeezed her back, showing that he needed the love in the moment. "Okay, we'll come over tomorrow," she decided. Such was the shock, hurt and anger that she was having to deal with all at once, she also decided to take him up on his offer of taking the rest of the day off, which was out of character for her. She was a workaholic. But now, all she wanted to do was go home, to Jay. Jay would be there for her, like he unfailingly was. He was the rock she could always rely on. She had a feeling she might be needing him a lot in the near future.

A/N: Hank is potentially in big trouble. Do you think the investigation will find against him?
