"Don't say a word."
Jade turned around, placing a finger on my lips. My breath hitched in my throat as I struggled not to gulp too loudly.
Luther, the school janitor, whistled as he strolled past us, mop and bucket in hand. Without any warning, Jade grabbed my wrist and dragged me to another wall that inched closer towards Dickers' office. This sudden movement caused me to step on the shoelace of my boot that had come loose, and the beginning of a scream bubbled out of my throat as my nose got closer to the floor.
"Goddamn it Vega!" Jade hissed as she wrapped an arm around my waist, the palm of her other hand on my lips, as she prevented me from flattening my face. Now with both feet planted firmly back on the ground, I turned around to look at her, my face burning. "Sorry that I'm such a klutz."
"Won't want you to smash your pretty face, you know," Jade smirked, bringing her lips closer to mine. As I closed my eyes and melted into the moment, a flick on my nose forced me out of it. "Ow! What the chizz, Jade?"
"Dickers just left his office," she pointed to the figure walking out of the swinging double doors. "Come on, this is our chance to get back my 'The Scissoring' scissors."
Grumbling, I handed her the keys I "borrowed" from Luther.
"You owe me triple the amount of kisses tonight, Jade."
