Bell leaned back against a rock with Welf sitting across from him as their campfire crackled. The three girls of their party. Emma, Karen, and Lili slept near the pond as it was a natural barrier against attackers.
Night had long since fallen, leaving the campfire their only source of light. Both had their weapons drawn in their hands, ready to fight if needed.
Even if they themselves were growing exhausted.
"You did good leading us today, Bell," Welf said.
Bell quirked an eyebrow. "How so?"
"Well, you didn't panic, for starters. Refused to give up even as all of us were nearly at our limits and refused to leave anyone behind. That's a good leader right there."
Bell chuckled. "Coming from the one who wanted to be left behind."
"Eh, let's just say my spirits were shattered. Besides, no one would miss me if I was gone. Only what I can create."
Bell didn't miss a beat. "I'd miss you, we're friends after all."
Welf chuckled. "Yeah, I guess you're right. You know you're probably the first friend I've made since I've come here. Everyone tries to act friendly with me so I can make them magic swords. But not you, though."
"That's because I'm perfectly fine with the sword I have. Don't need any fancy magic sword to use."
"Still, you haven't asked for one despite knowing me for nearly a month now. It means a lot to know I'm not being used."
"Please, I'm using you for good armor." Bell joked.
Welf laughed before grabbing his chest. "Oh, don't make me laugh. It hurts."
"You want my last potion? It should help with the pain until we get you to Airmid." Bell asked.
Welf shook his head. "No, save it for Karen. We don't know if her leg fully healed or not. Trust me, I'll be fine, just a little chest pain."
"You're lucky to know. Being hit by a Minotaur is no joke. Especially at level one."
"Yeah, you'd know all about that, wouldn't you?"
"Well, I did go flying through a building when it happened to me."
"Ouch."
The two sat in silence as Bell glanced over to the girls again. They were sleeping soundly next to each other. Peaceful looks on their faces as if they hadn't gone through hell earlier.
"Made it by the skin of our teeth, didn't we." Bell joked.
"Yeah, little too close for comfort. Though I bet I leveled from that." Welf said.
"Yeah, that'd be pretty cool. That means next time, we'll have more heavy hitters."
"It would also mean I could pull my weight if something like this happened again. I felt useless on our way down here."
"Hey, don't look at it that way. You saved Lili's life, that alone deserves praise."
"Yeah, and I took one hell of a right hook because of it."
"That you did, but hey, it's all over with. Now we just need to wait for rescue."
"When do you think that's coming?" Welf asked.
"Well, it depends on how much Astraea freaked the hell out or if there was a massive dinner rush."
"Dinner rush?"
"You'll see when they get here."
Welf shrugged and yawned. He blinked his eyes a few times in order to stay awake.
"You can get some sleep if you want. Best I keep watch. Mostly because I'm the only one who can really handle anything down here with relative ease."
Welf yawned again. "That wouldn't be fair. Everyone else is getting sleep while you don't."
"Yeah, well, life isn't fair. So you better be a level two after this, so if this happens again, I'll be able to sleep next time. Man, I'm already looking forward to my bed."
Welf didn't offer much protest as his eyes closed, and his exhaustion finally caught up to him. As Welf fell asleep, however, he vowed to never let his spirits break like that again. Not if he wanted to prove himself to the woman that he loved.
With Welf falling asleep, this left Bell the only one awake.
He looked leaned his head back and sighed. He knew he was in for a long night and was thankful his Grandpa trained him for moments like this.
"Oh, I'm taking a long nap when we get back." He thought.
Bell then turned and looked out into the forest, seeing only darkness but sensing nothing in it. Whatever monsters were after them had long since stopped, and Bell wondered if the exhaustion he felt was why he saw that rotting face when he grabbed Karen.
Just a simple trick of the eyes.
Bell sighed again as he thought about how worried Astraea was right now. How much she was panicking knowing he and the others were trapped down here.
He knew that she would rush to the Hostess to ask Ryu for help, and there was a possibility of Anya tagging along. Now that Bell thought of her, it seemed like a huge possibility.
His thoughts then wandered more towards her. Her smile, her eyes that he liked looking into. Her cat ears and her personality. The way she smelled like cinnamon.
"Oh...I like this girl." Bell realized.
As his thoughts filled more about her, a small, happy grin spread on his face.
"Alright, I'll ask her on a date when all this is over. Now, what should I do for the date? Take her to dinner? Or should I make her dinner? But what does she like? Hmmmmmm."
He thought more and more about what he should do. Thanks to his Grandpa, he at least knew how to identify these feelings. But Bell felt like it was harder to act on them.
"Ugh, I don't know what to do. No, I'll ask her out for dinner. But where would I take her? I can't take her to the Hostess, and if I cook for her, everyone else would be there, so it wouldn't really be a date. I could go somewhere different, but I don't know anywhere else. Oh damn it, these feelings are annoying."
Bell let out an annoyed sigh as his mind drew up blanks. "Maybe I should ask Astraea about this?"
"Oh, who am I kidding? She's a virgin goddess. Might not be a celestial one, but she has no experience dating."
Bell pinched the bridge of his nose. "Man, this sucks, maybe I should just ask Astraea. Some advice is better than no advice."
"Wait, will Anya even say yes?"
.
.

Astraea quickly hurried down the streets of Orario, heading for the Hostess. The sun was setting, and the streets and bars around her were becoming busy.
After a few minutes, she arrived at the Hostess and quickly made her way to the bar where Mia was working. The dwarfess saw the goddess approaching and quirked an eyebrow.
"Everything alright, Lady Astraea? You look like you sprinted here."
"B-Bell didn't...make it back for dinner." Astraea panted as Mia placed a glass of water on the bar.
"And that's a problem why?" Mia asked.
Astraea quickly drank the water. "Because he made me a promise he would always have dinner with me unless he was incapacitated or supposed to be in the dungeon for more than a day. He was supposed to be back by now."
"And because of this, you think something bad happened to him?"
"Has Bell ever gone back on his word before?"
Mia thought for a minute and couldn't remember a time when he did. She sighed and looked out at the dining room.
"Alright, when the dinner service is over, I'll send Ryu down to get him. You know if he's still alive?"
Astraea nodded. "He is, I can feel his falna burning brightly along with the others."
"Then he'll be fine. He probably knows someone is coming for him and is waiting. Don't worry, he'll be back by tomorrow."
Astraea let out a sigh of relief as her body sagged. "Thank you, Mia."
"Yeah, well, I like the kid too. Don't tell him I said that, though."

Morning, or what could be akin to morning, rose on the 18th floor as the crystals mimicked the daylight once more.
Bell had kept the fire going all night, and it had been at least a day since he last slept. Bags were under his eyes, yet he still stayed awake.
He had to, to keep everyone safe.
"Hopefully, they'll be able to see the smoke. Hopefully, they made it down here safely." Bell thought.
He tossed in a stick, and the fire crackled again. He heard groaning coming from in front of him and noticed Welf was waking up.
"You didn't sleep long," Bell said.
"Eh, my chest is still bugging the hell out of me. Any danger?"
"Other than the fact I could possibly start a forest fire. No."
"So, anyone rescue us yet?" Welf asked.
"I would've woken you if they arrived. I'm hoping they see the smoke from our fire and make their way to us."
"Well, maybe they'll find us soon. If not, we'll have to scavenge for more food. Ugh, I really don't feel like eating those berries again. Too sweet." Welf groaned.
"You're telling me." Bell yawned.
"Hey, now that it's light, why don't you catch some shut-eye? We'll be able to see things coming from a mile away at this point."
Bell shook his head. "No, the dive isn't over until every one of you leaves this dungeon alive. Whoever threw those lures at us could be watching us right now. It's better I stay awake to keep us safe."
Welf chuckled and grabbed his chest. "You're a stubborn one, you know that, right?"
"My Grandpa has said the same thing."
The two then heard the three girls stirring, and Emma was the first to wake up. When she saw Bell, her eyes widened.
"Ah! You look terrible, what happened to you?!" Emma yelled.
"Good morning to you, too, Emma," Bell responded.
"Did Master Bell stay up all night?" Lili yawned.
"Yeah, enjoy your beauty sleep?" Bell teased.
"Always with the jokes," Lili responded.
Bell then turned his attention to Karen, who still laid down with her leg propped up. "How's your leg, Karen?"
"It still hurts pretty badly. Are they going to amputate it if we get rescued?" She worriedly asked.
"No, they won't. I set the break and had the potion heal you a tiny bit. All you really need now is a thorough check-up and some bed rest." Bell comforted.
Karen sighed in relief as she was worried she'd lose her leg. Pain and exhaustion could make one delirious.
"So how long until we're recused, Master Bell?" Lili asked.
"I'm not sure. As long as we keep the fire going, it'll send a smoke signal to them."
"Bell!" Ryu yelled out.
Bell looked and saw Ryu and Anya running to them. Bell gave them a tired smile.
"Oh, thank the gods you found us." Bell yawned.
Ryu and Anya slowed down once they reached the camp. Ryu immediately noticed Welf's breathing was labored, and Karen's leg was messed up.
Anya, on the other hand, was more worried about how tired Bell looked. She had never seen him like that before.
Bell meanwhile took in Ryu's appearance. She wore brown gloves and boots with a white short-sleeved shirt with a cape that resembled a flower on her head. But that wasn't the part Bell focused on.
No, he was taken aback by the fact that she wore a green speedo and nothing else as pants for an elf that seemed pretty shameless. Mostly because her thighs were on full display.
"Interesting outfit you have on Ryu." Bell chuckled.
Ryu blushed slightly under her mask. She had used her lack of pants to normally distract enemies.
Anya was wearing a white short-sleeved shirt and a red skirt with black shorts underneath. In her back was a black backpack shaped like a cat.
Bell yawned again as Ryu began chanting her healing spell. Once she was finished, Welf felt his chest loosen considerably.
"Karen broke her leg. I fixed it as best as I could, but I don't have healing magic." Bell explained.
Ryu nodded and chanted her healing spell on Karen's leg. Meanwhile, Anya spoke.
"You're not looking so good, nya."
"That's because I haven't slept for a day." Bell yawned.
Anya crouched down and patted the top of his head. Bell closed his eyes and let out a content sigh.
"You can sleep now, nya."
"Not yet, I need to make sure they make it out."
"So stubborn, nya."
Once Ryu finished chanting her spell, Karen felt a majority of the pain in her leg disappear. She moved it a little, and it didn't send daggers of pain through her.
"Thank you. I think I can walk now." Karen said.
"No problem, Bell. I think we should start our ascent back. Astraea is worried sick." Ryu said.
She began walking forward, passing Bell and standing in front of the group. Anya offered to help Bell, but he said he was fine.
"Don't have to tell me twice," Bell said.
He stood up, or at least tried to. His legs were a lot weaker than he thought, and he tripped, causing him to fall forward. He stuck his hands out, trying to stop himself, but a loud smack rang throughout the 18th floor.
Bell's party eyes widened in shock and small bits of fear. Anya's eyes nearly bulged out of her head, and Ryu's face was bright red, with her blush going all the way up to her ears.
Bell's face hit the ground after he tripped. He pushed himself back up, not realizing what he had just done.
"I must be more tired than I thought. Sorry, Ryu, I didn't mean to hit you. Are you alright?" He asked, standing up.
"Y-y-yes." She stuttered.
Bell was a little confused. Why was everyone looking at him like he did something wrong? It was then out of the corner of his eye. He could see a handprint on Ryu's ass.
"Oh, Ryu, I am so sorry. I did not intend to do that." He quickly apologized.
"It's fine, let's go!" Ryu said before speed-walking away.
Bell's party, and Anya looked at him with wide eyes and teasing smirks.
"Kind of skipped a few steps there, buddy." Welf laughed.
"Honestly, Master Bell, time and place."
"You're a bold one," Karen added.
"I am very uncomfortable right now," Emma said.
"Nya, so Bell's a pervert, huh?"
"Oh, for- it was an accident, damnit! Now come on, let's go home!" Bell yelled, marching away.
"Ryu careful nya! Bell's right behind you!" Anya yelled.
"Shut up!"
Bell wouldn't hear the end of this for a while.
.
.
.
.
Bell and his group were walking through floor 13. They were getting closer to the entrance to floor 12 and would soon be home.
Ryu walked in front of everyone, with Welf behind her and the girls behind him. Anya and Bell walked behind everyone else to bring up the rear.
"So Bell, just an accident, huh, nya?"
Bell groaned. "You saw me. I tripped."
"I don't know what I saw, nya. That could've been poor Anya instead of Ryu nya. What would've happened then?"
"What are you inferring?"
"Hmm, maybe I'm wondering if it were me, you wouldn't have tripped."
Bell rolled his eyes. "Still would've tripped. Look, can we stop talking about it? I feel bad for doing it."
Anya shrugged. "Alright, nya, I'm just glad you're alright, nya."
Bell gave her a tired smile. "Glad you're here, Anya. Means a lot you and Ryu can to rescue us."
"That's right, praise the great Anya more."
"Oh, you did such a great job saving me, Anya whatever would I have done if it weren't for you." Bell sarcastically said.
Anya had a beaming smile on her face as Bell rolled his eyes. But then he remembered what he wanted to do, but he needed more information first.
"Hey, Anya, what type of things do you like?"
"Huh, why are you asking nya?"
"Just want to know you better."
Anya placed her finger on her chin. "Hmm, my favorite food is cooked Salmon. I like cookies and-
Anya's voice seemed to catch in her throat as a cat-man with black hair approached. Bell seemed to notice Anya freezing and grew worried.
"Anya, you alright?" Bell asked.
Ryu heard this and turned around, stopping as the cat-man walked past her. He paid the group no mind, walking past each and every one of them.
He bumped Anya's shoulder as he passed her, scoffing in annoyance as Anya refused to move. This filled Bell with anger, added with his exhaustion caused him not to think straight.
Or that's what the group thought.
"Hey asshole, apologize to my friend here!" Bell yelled.
Anya's eyes widened as Bell approached the man. The man had stopped in his tracks and clicked his tongue before turning around.
"What did you just say to me?" He growled.
"You heard me, or are your ears just useless."
The man growled as his grip on his spear tightened. Bell noticed this but didn't care. He seemed to scare Anya, and Bell would protect her. Just like he wanted to do at the bar.
"Watch who you're talking to, weakling."
"Or what, you going to attack me? Huh, is that it? Is the big bad Mr cool guy over here going to attack someone because of the words they don't like?" Bell goaded.
Anya was filled with fear as she saw her brother Allen getting angry. Yet Bell kept poking the metaphorical bear.
"I'm very much considering it."
"Oh, so the asshole has a weak mind? You going to go crying back to whoever holds your leash that your feelings were hurt?"
Allen growled again, wanting nothing more than to hit Bell. But his goddess would get angry at him, and that was the last thing he wanted.
"Go on, do it. Prove me right, prove you're a weak-minded man, and attack me. Use violence to prove your point that you're so much better."
Allen growled before scoffing and turning away. "I don't have time for this."
"Pssh yeah, walk away. Next time I see you, you're apologizing to Anya."
Allen said nothing and flicked Bell off before disappearing further into the dungeon.
"What a prick." Bell scoffed.
He turned back around and walked to Anya. Ignoring the shocked stares of those around him, he shook the cat-girl.
She was knocked out of her stupor once Allen was gone. She worriedly looked at Bell, and her eyes seemed to be shaking.
"You shouldn't have done that," Anya said, her voice cracking.
"Why not? He was an asshole. Just forget him, and let's keep going. We'll be on the surface soon."
Bell started to walk away, but Anya grabbed his arm. Bell went to protect but could feel Anya shaking. He sighed before wrapping his arm around her and walking while she held onto him.
No one said anything about the situation. It was clear the man they encountered had done something to traumatize Anya.
So, if she wanted to hook onto Bell for comfort, they wouldn't judge. After all, they had practically done the same thing during their death march.
.
.
.
.
After another hour or so, the group had finally made it back to the surface. Bell felt like a weight was lifted off his shoulders, knowing he got his party out safely.
He still had one more thing he needed to do, however.
"Karen, Welf, go to the hospital and make sure you're alright." He ordered.
"Alright, sounds smart," Welf said.
"Yes, I would like to make sure my leg has no lasting damage," Karen added.
"Lili will go with them to make sure they're alright."
"I'll go to," Emma added. She could sense Bell wanted to say something without them around.
Bell gave them a tired smile. He hadn't slept for 32 hours now. "Alright, someone stick close to Emma so she doesn't get lost. Don't need a wild goose chase after what we just went through."
Emma pouted while the others laughed and headed to the hospital.
"I'll go and inform Lady Astraea that you're safe," Ryu said before taking off.
This left Anya and Bell alone. The cat-girl had let go of him before they arrived on the surface.
"Walk you back to the Hostess?" He asked.
Anya nodded. "Sure."
The two began to walk in silence as Bell enjoyed the sunlight on his skin. He was also looking forward to his bed.
"I won't ask who that was or how you two are connected. It's not my business unless you want to tell me." Bell said.
"Thanks, Bell, but can you not try and provoke him? I was scared for you." Anya said softly.
"That depends if he does something to you. But if not, I'll play nice."
Anya blushed and smiled as the two arrived at the Hostess. The lunch rush had just ended, leaving it empty.
"Well, this is me. Like I said before, Bell, I'm glad you're alright."
"Thanks for saving me, Anya. You and Ryu both, I'll see you later?" He asked.
Anya nodded before heading inside. Bell stood there for all of two seconds before he made up his mind. He quickly walked up the stairs and peeked inside.
Syr was sweeping, and Lunoire and Chloe were in the back, with Mia standing behind the bar. Her arms were crossed, but she smiled, seeing Bell.
"Hey, Anya," Bell called out.
Anya stopped and turned around. "Yes, nya?"
"Would you like to have dinner with me on Saturday? I'll cook."
Anya smiled as her cheeks tinted red. "Yes, I'd like that."
Bell was a little surprised but smiled brightly. "Good, I'll see you at six."
He then walked home with a smile on his face. Meanwhile, in the Hostess, Anya was blushing up a storm.
"Did he just ask you out?" Syr asked.
Anya nodded, burying her head in her hands.
"Huh, and here I thought the kid was slow on the uptake," Mia added.

Bell arrived back at the Stardust Garden. He was barely keeping his eyes open at this point. The only thing on his mind was sleep and his date.
He opened the door and walked inside. Quickly taking off his boots before going to the living room, where he heard Ryu and Astraea talking.
The second the Goddess saw him, she immediately stood up and ran to him. Bell already had his arms open as she slammed into him, causing him to stumble back slightly.
"I'm so glad you ok." She whispered.
"Yeah, I'm alright, but I'm really tired. Can I go and get some sleep?"
Astraea hastily pulled back. "Of course, don't let me keep you. Ryu was explaining everything that happened."
"Ok, oh, and can you also clear the house Saturday around dinner time?"
Astraea quirked an eyebrow. "I can, but may I ask why?"
"I'm cooking dinner for Anya. Alright, good night."
Bell then went to his room, leaving a stunned Astraea and Ryu.
"Did he just say he had a date?" Astraea asked.
"I think he did, Lady Astraea," Ryu answered, equally as shocked.
"Huh, I didn't think he had it in him. I know I made jokes about it, but I didn't think he'd actually do it." Astraea added.
"So where are you going to go on Saturday for dinner then?" Ryu asked.
"Hostess," Astraea answered,

Allen arrived at the wall of Lamination and clicked his tongue. The Goliath was already dead, and he was too late to kill it.
"She and that brat were coming from that way. Looks like she already got rid of it." Allen thought.
He shook his head and clicked his tongue again before descending deeper into the dungeon. His mind wandered back to the conversation he had with his goddess's beloved.
Allen wanted nothing more than to punch him in the face. But that would make Freya angry, and he didn't want that.
"One day, brat. One day."

Welf knocked on the door to Hephaestus's office and was given permission to enter. He opened the door and saw his goddess sitting at her desk.
Hephaestus had a crimson eye and red hair reaching to the neck, with a rather sharp face and slender body with an eyepatch over her right eye.
Welf had found out she had a defect on her right eye that made others run away in terror. Yet he didn't see why, as Hephaestus still looked beautiful to him.
"So I take it your trip to the middle floors was a success?" She asked with a smile.
"In a manner of speaking. We nearly died but didn't, and it was all thanks to Bell."
Hephaestus's face dropped slightly. "I see, and what happened that nearly had you die?"
"Someone threw monster lures at us, and they hit our clothes. So we were covered in the stuff and had to run like hell to floor 18."
"I see, and do you have an idea as to who wanted you dead?"
"No, Lady Hephaestus," Welf answered.
The goddess sighed and set her pen down. "I see, come here and let me update your falna then. You probably got a lot of good excila killing those middle-floor monsters."
Welf sat on the chair that was across from her desk after taking his shirt off. Hephaestus grabbed a dagger and pricked the tip of her finger, letting her blood drop on his back. A few seconds later, his falna opened up.

Hephaestus's eye widened in shock at seeing such a high jump. Just what exactly did he go through to warrant this high of a jump?
Such a thought made her heart squeeze. But she hid her feelings.
"Welf, you can level if you want," Hephaestus said.
She felt Welf perk up hearing these words. She could also feel a grin spreading across his lips as well.
"Yes, I'm ready to level. Bell said he'd like another level two if we get into trouble like that again."
Hephaestus smiled, hearing how passionately Welf talked about his friend. It was like a fire was lit under him to do better.
To be better.
"Maybe this boy will help you see what I see in you." She thought.
She leveled Welf up, and she already knew he wanted the blacksmith Development Ability. But what she didn't expect to see was another skill on his back.

"Welf, you have a new skill, and it unlocks so many possibilities," Hephaestus said.
She copied his status down on a piece of paper and showed it to him. He carefully read it as his brow furrowed in confusion.
"Runes? But I have no idea how to use them." Welf said.
"Then I'll have to teach you. Starting now, when you get back from the dungeon, we shall have one-on-one lessons." Hephaestus said.
Welf felt a small grin on his face as he kept looking at his stats. He had finally reached level two and had gotten the skills to help with his smithing. It had also scored him some one of one time with Hephaestus.
Hephaestus looked at Welf and enjoyed seeing that boyish wonder in his eyes. His face at the possibilities of what lies ahead. It gave her butterflies in her stomach.

"The assassination failed."
"Oh, Jura, it should've been easy we corralled all those monsters there for you."
"Yes, and you also drenched them in monster lures. It should've been easy for you."
"Well, the little bastard is more tenacious than you give him credit for. He was able to lead his party down there and wait for rescue. He also has her magic."
"He has Gospel? My, my, this is becoming more and more interesting."
"Perhaps we should reevaluate how we deal with the boy."
"That'll just give him more time to be a thorn in our side."
"Not exactly, he's unknowingly stopped our operations. Maybe those will be happy accidents?"
"You really want to leave him running around like that?"
"What, so we kill Orario's new rising star? That would bring way too much attention on us."
"So what do you propose?"
"We get close to him and see what he knows."
"So, a honey pot?"
"Not exactly, but close. This should work more for the long run than just simply killing him."
"Alright, then, you're the one in charge of it. Make sure the results are noteworthy."
"Oh, they will be. They will be."

Anya paced back and forth in her room, her mind running with thoughts. Her tail nervously wagging from side to side.
"Oh, Bell asked me out. Oh, I'm so excited, but what do I wear? Should I have makeup as well? Will there be more than just dinner? Will we be one-on-one, or will his familia be there?"
So many questions and no answers for Anya as she kept worrying. That was until her door opened, and Syr walked in.
"Syr, what are you doing here, nya?"
"Well, to help you get ready for your date, of course." Syr smiled.
Anya blushed again, hearing that word, and Syr shut the door behind her.
"Oh, don't worry, Anya. Leave everything to me."
Well, it looks like Bell finally scored, and Welf has the potential to score. Anyway, don't worry; Anya ain't the only one who will have Bell's heart. Just the first.
Now, with that out of the way, not much happened really other than Bell squaring up to Allen.
Other than that I hope you enjoyed and I'll see you later.
