AN: Part of me agrees with Erica - David would never try to take away their child. If he knew about the kid and Erica was allowing him full access, he would be content. And this is EK, she's different, and she knew it.
Another part of me, though, thinks that David would be paranoid of losing his child, regardless of the mother or the access to the child, and that he would make a play for the kid.
You'll see this theme throughout the fic, and it'll come up between D&E at some point.
Ah. I love this for them, and I can't wait to write.
Chapter 6
The lights in her living room were on when she opened the door.
She'd expected as much. Jack was unwilling to let the issue rest. Determined to convince her what a mistake she was making.
He could talk forever if he wanted to.
They were empty words and arguments that wouldn't work.
She shook her head and pushed the door open, not in the mood to do this again.
"Jackson really..." She was already saying as she walked through the door.
"Oh Bianca, sweetheart. Hi. Are you alright ? Miranda? Gabby?"
"We're fine, Mom." She smiled in Erica's direction and said a silent prayer that she would forgive what she was about to do. "Uncle Jack had to go down to the station..."
"And he asked you to come over here and try to talk me out of the transfer?" She scoffed out the words, shaking her head as she set her purse and keys down on a table near the door.
Bianca sighed and shook her head. "I just want...to make sure you know what you're doing, Mom. Did David sign the forms?"
"He did. I meet with Dr. Anderson in the morning."
"Mom, if this takes, if this transfer works, you'll have a baby. A child. Is this really what you want?"
Erica motioned for the couch and took a seat next to Bianca. She was already tired of having to explain herself.
"More than anything."
"If you want a baby, you and Uncle Jack could try..."
"I don't want just any child, Bianca. I want the one waiting for me in New York."
The conviction in her voice made Bianca's eyes go wide.
"Greg Madden violated me and my body in one of the worst ways you can be violated. He took my DNA, my potential children. He deceived David into using his own DNA. He implanted our babies into other women," Her voice shook, and her eyes welled. Would she ever be able to get through this without feeling like her heart was going to shatter?
'Your brother is dead. Alex and Olivia may never know I exist. This is my chance, Bianca, to take back control of my body, my baby's. That embryo may have been made from lies and deceit, but that child will be born from so much love."
Bianca was quiet. She could honestly say she understood her Mother's desire to take back her body. It was part of the reason she'd chosen to have Miranda. She even understood turning a child's traumatic and terrible beginnings into something beautiful.
That didn't mean it made any sense. "David's child, Mom. You'd share a child with David."
Erica nodded and sighed. Was this the real issue? Was David the reason they were so against this?
"Why does everyone think I don't realize that I would share the child with David?"
"Why would you willingly choose to share a child with David? After everything he's done to us, to people we love, why have a child with him? If you want a child, I'm sure Uncle Jack..."
"I don't want a child. I want the one waiting for me in New York." She said again, shaking her head.
Her voice tone was confident. Clear and firm. She was tired of repeating herself. Tired of having to defend her choices.
"I know who David is. I know him better than anyone else. I know that he can be and has been possessive with his children."
Bianca raised a curious eyebrow her, confused.
"I also know how kind, loving, and devoted he can be. I know he's hurt us beyond repair. I know that I can never truly forgive him, and I certainly can't forget. But I can put it all aside for this child."
"Why?" Bianca asked softly. "Why risk spending your life fighting David for your child?"
"No. No. David would never do that, not to me. I know it's hard to understand, but David wouldn't do that."
"He lied about Miranda. He kept Babe's secret. He broke both of our hearts, Mom."
"This is different." This was different. David was a lot of things. David had done so many horrible things. And she knew about every single one of them. But he would never keep her from their child.
"Why take that risk? You and Uncle Jack, you could try, couldn't you? Leave the embryo at the clinic and see what happens? If you and Uncle Jack have a baby, destroying the embryo would make sense."
"This isn't about a child," She sighed on her feet, back to Bianca. "I won't continue to explain myself. I'm transferring the embryo, and if life permits, having a baby."
She was facing Bianca now, and their eyes met. "I know you don't approve, sweetheart, and that's alright. But I am going to do this."
Bianca sighed and nodded. This was going to be a train wreck, but she knew that look. That tone in her mother's voice.
No one was going to stop her.
"We all just love you, mom, and we don't want you to get hurt."
"I can handle it, sweetheart." She could handle the transfer not taking. She could handle not getting pregnant.
What she couldn't handle was not trying. Was willing destroying a chance.
Bianca nodded, still convinced . "Promise you'll think about this tonight."
She promised, and Bianca left after a quick hug.
Erica closed the door behind Bianca. She leaned against it, eyes closed.
Her hands instinctively went to her stomach, and thoughts of a dark-haired little boy danced behind her eyes.
No matter what anyone else thought, she knew what she was about to do. She knew if it worked that she would share her child with David.
She understood what could happen, and still she wanted the child with everything she had.
