AN: If you're new to my fics or if you've read them all, you'll know that there is no part of their history that I won't write. I'm not bothered by the dark moments, the ugly stuff, and I'm not going to shy away from it.
So you'll see me run them through it. ALL of it. I'm even going back to before they knww each other and touching on Erica's miscarriage with Dimitri, Sonia/Maddie, etc.
I'm not necessarily going for a romantic reunion, but I am going to strip it all away, make them face it, and deal with A LOT.

Chapter 7
"What are you doing here?" David gritted out. Of all the people he would want to find waiting in his office, Jackson Montgomery was not one of them.
"Call Erica, tell her you changed your mind. Stop this."
David scoffed and headed for his desk, back to Jack. "You're too late. I've just spoken to her, and she's already on her way back."
Jack shook his head. "Talk her out of it."
"Why would I do that?" David wondered, finally turning to face Jackson. "Erica has made up her mind. She's made her decision. This is what she wants, and I won't stand in her way."
"Do you hear yourself? Have either of you stopped to think this through? It's a child, David. It's a life. Erica can't see clearly through her grief. But we all know what a mistake she's making."
"Have you stopped for half a second to listen to her? Hear her out? She knows exactly what she's doing. I have never heard her speak about something with so much conviction. Determination. She wants this child, and she's going to make it happen."
"Your child," Jack hissed.
David wondered if anyone who loved Erica actually knew her. Understood who she was.
Would her determination to bare the child be as strong if a stranger was the father? Maybe not. But he had little doubt she would still do exactly the same thing.
She deserved this child. To take her body back. Carry one of the children Greg had stolen from her. Regardless of who the biological father was.
"What's your point?" David wondered, eyes locked with Jackson's. "I would have encouraged her to transfer even if you were the father. This isn't about me. It's about Erica and taking back what Madden stole from her. Yes, if the transfer takes and she has a live birth, we will share the child. But don't stand there and act like the only reason I support her choice is because it's my child."
"You're both living in the clouds," Jack scoffed. "I won't let her do this."
David laughed, arms folded across his chest. "I'll pay to see you try and stop Erica Kane."
Jack shook his head and left quickly, done with the conversation.
David shook his head and sat down at his desk. This would be their reality, he realized. Them against all of Pine Valley, if the transfer took.
They were all so convinced that this was bound to be a train wreck. That no thought had been given to the idea that this would also be his child. That he and Erica couldn't and wouldn't find a way to co-parent. That it would all just be a mess, not worth making.
None of them had ever been in his and Erica's position. They had no idea what it felt like to know a potential child could be given life.
Greg had taken their DNA and genetic material to make and give away children. Josh was dead. Alex and Olivia were likely to always be strangers. Why should they destroy the final embryo?
They had both lost so much.
Josh, Babe, Leora.
Why shouldn't Erica give the child life? She was an incredible mother, and their DNA made extraordinary children.
Their history would prove contentious if they allowed it. If he knew anything to be true, there was nothing he or Erica would do to ensure the health and safety of their children.
Their history together, apart and since they relationship ended, could prove to be the reason they made great co-parents.
