AN:My goal here is to create an incredibly, intimate relationship with them, without them crossing any physical lines. At least for the time being.
I feel like they would be so tied up in all of it. So drawn to one another, that they can't fight it and they don't want too.
I actually stopped their conversation where I did (at Dixie) because I have another moment planned where it will work better.
I hope I did this justice.
Part II
Apparently you could order food and clothes for delivery at 9pm in New York City? This was a completely different world than the small town vibes of Pine Valley.
The Concierge had been all to happy to help, after all anything to do with Erica Kane made them move mountains.
"The press will be wild when the find out about this," David mused, motioning around them.
They were sat on her bed on top of the covers both wearing their pyjamas. She wore a long black satin slip night dress and he was in black sweats and matching black tee-shirt.
A tray of snacks sat between them. The TV was on, but neither seemed interested in whatever movie was playing.
Erica shrugged as she reached for a piece of chocolate. "Who cares what they think or what they have to say."
"Jack won't be very happy."
"Jack isn't happy about any of this. I stopped caring what he thought when he refused to come here with me."
David nodded. "I can't imagine he's thrilled about you wanting to carry my child."
"No one is," She told him through a laugh. "Doesn't matter. We are the only ones that matter and we're happy."
"You haven't been this alienated from the good folks of Pine Valley since we were..."
"Together," She finished. They'd joked about it earlier, being here in this hotel, a floor above the one he'd put under quarantine in a attempt to confess his feelings for her.
They'd been successfully avoiding any further talk of the past, until this moment.
Part of her knew it was best to change the subject. They were already playing with fire. And yet, another part of her knew this had to happen. Knew that for them to move forward, be good, honest, open, co-parents there were so many topics they needed to explore.
She took a deep breath and turned her eyes on him. "David," She started softly, hesitantly.
If she started this, there was no going back. If she did end up pregnant with their child this was only one of many conversations they had to have.
"Why didn't you fight for me? For us?"
David coughed on the chocolate bar they'd been sharing and his breath caught in his throat. He turned wide eyes on her. "Why didn't I fight for you? You ended our relationship. You decided that we had no future. While I walked around with your engagement ring in my pocket for weeks."
She blinked back at him, her face twisted with emotion.
"It was in my lab coat, hanging over the back of my chair the day we made love in my office. It was in the drawer near my bed the day you came to me after your fight with Bianca. It was upstairs waiting for you that morning we had breakfast in the Valley Inn." The words spilled out in an almost painful rush of air, and his chest heaved.
He'd spent years forcing away these memories, the feelings that came with them. And now they were being torn from his soul with reckless abandon.
She swiped at an errant tear and tried to sucked in ragged breaths.
"I tried to convince you to give us another try at every chance i got. I would have put that ring on your finger and drove us to the first Justice of the Peace I could find, if you gave me the opportunity."
There were tears in his eyes now and he shifted his body so he was facing her. "But you pushed me away. Every time."
She looked away, tears staining her cheeks. Why had she started this? Why did she believe she was strong enough to bear it?
"But you didn't come after me," She gulped in strangled breaths, and let her tears fall. Her eyes met his again. "You didn't call me. You didn't come to my house or come to Enchantment. You didn't try, David."
He was quiet for a few moments, as he processed his reply. She was right, he hadn't done any of those things. "I couldn't compete with Dimitri Marrick when he was dead, alive I knew I didn't stand a chance."
Her eyes slammed shut and pushed out a strangled breath, before she nodded. "That wasn't fair to you," She acknowledged, softly. "I did use him against you, to try and make you jealous. In the end, the joke was on me. He didn't want me, he made it very clear that he loved Alex."
David laughed lightly at the hatred he still heard in her voice. "Yes. His wife. Imagine that, he loved his wife. Meanwhile I was still holding onto hope months later, sitting on your couch talking all night that you might let me in. Give me an opening that would get us back together."
She nodded and sniffled, before finally turning to look at him again.
There were tears staining both of their cheeks as David reached over for some tissues from the night table.
"Thank you. That was the night you implied Bianca might be gay."
"You got angry and threw me out."
She sighed, and dabbed at her tears. "You were right though."
"That was the night I took your ring back to the jewellers," He admitted through a hard breath. "Why keep hoping? Between Marrick, your problems with Bianca and your being so angry at me, I forced myself to move on."
She nodded and raised an accusatory eyebrow at him. "Yes to Dixie Martin."
He laughed lightly and shook his head. "Not my finest hour."
She opened her mouth to counter when a yawn stretched across her lips.
David sighed. "You should have been sleeping hours ago."
"It has been a long day," She acknowledged watching him move to get up. "Where are you going?"
"To call the Concierge and ask for some more pillows and blankets for the floor. We can continue this in the morning. You need your rest."
She leaned forward and picked up the tray of food, handing it to a confused David. "You can sleep here, David."
He shook his and stood up, setting the tray down on a chair near the bed. "We can't share a bed."
"We can," She told him, pulling back the blanket for him, as she slid into her side.
"We shouldn't."
"I want too," She admitted offered him a soft smile. "We've been through a lot in such a short period of time, and we are the only two people who understand what this feels like. I can't explain it but I like having you close."
He couldn't explain it either, but he understood how she felt. "This is crazy."
"Probably," She laughed watching him climb in next to her.
He flipped off the lights and leaned back against his pillow.
He felt her next to him, body turned just slightly so her head was near his shoulder.
How many nights had they fallen asleep just like this?
"Goodnight David." She said through a yawn.
He could tell by her breathing pattern that she was nearly asleep already.
He squeezed his eyes closed and took a few deep breaths.
Only in his wildest dreams had he ever woken up next to her. And now she slept next to him, their child, hopefully, growing inside of her.
This was all surreal and yet so real.
Something about this felt right. Even if that meant crying, arguing and fighting their way through the past nine years.
Maybe Greg Madden had tied them together all those years ago for a reason.
