Preface: The Patient
Warning!
This is a Danganronpa Fic, so expect dark and serious themes! But also fun and whimsical themes! Enjoy!
"Okay everybody! Here she is! The star of the hour!"
Clapping ensued. Deafening clapping. I couldn't hear my thoughts at all. I walked out onto the stage.
More clapping.
I looked through the curtain. They still clapped. It didn't stop.
The clapping turned into an utter roar as I walked onto stage. Cameras were everywhere.
I reached the microphone, and mentally prepared myself.
…
…
…
"Hello everyone! I am happy to announce that-"
I was cut off by the sound of breaking glass.
…
…
…
"Huh?"
The light was blinding. My weary eyes slowly opened, only to be greeted by a multitude of blinding lights, as well as various people dressed in lab coats surrounding me. Where was I? I couldn't move my arms or legs. I quickly realized I was strapped down to what seemed like a lab table. Why was I here? Why can't I remember what happened to me? I was thinking all of this internally, so I decided to express my confusion to these people.
"Excuse me, where am I?"
…
…
…
No response. They all looked shocked at me even saying something, then just scribbled down something on their clipboards. I could hear one of them mumble something under their breath.
"Patient is still able to speak. Politely as well." He scribbled down more notes.
The older man stood in the middle of the lab coat people, and was presumably the boss. Perhaps it was due to me laying down, but he was very tall. Didn't seem too muscular though. He had dull green serious eyes that pierced my soul, and his short deep black hair didn't help. He looked down on me like I was less than human. Just a lowly test subject.
But wait, did he call me a patient? Now I was even more confused. If I was hospitalized, I was certainly in a strange one. I was in the middle of this decently sized room. The walls were all a dark green, and it just seemed very… sterile. Like I was the first interesting thing to even happen in here. These lab coat people seemed rather professional, but they didn't even look at me like I was a hospital patient. More like I was a lab rat.
Wait, what am I thinking? Why would I be hospitalized in the first place?! I'm not sick!
"Can someone please explain what is going on here? What is happening to me?"
…
…
…
Once again no response. They just start writing down even more notes. You know, perhaps it was because I was fatigued from waking up before, and that's why I was calm in this strange situation. But now I'm getting agitated.
"Hello? Can someone please say a single word?! What is this?! What is this place?!"
…
…
…
Seriously. Again?! No response?! Just stupid notes?!
"Answer me! What the fuck is this?! Where am I?! Can someone say a single fucking thing?!"
The leader of the lab coat people finally had a reaction to my anger.
"Patient evidently has not changed. Asher, retract that previous report. Also, put her back under." He stated with a deadpan look.
Asher? I could barely turn my head, but a noticed a young man standing to the right of me. He was adorned with a lab coat like the rest of his peers. His light brown hair combined with his delicate blue eyes topped with circle-framed glasses gave a very youthful appearance. But Asher responded to his boss, seemingly uncaring of my inner monologue.
"Right away Mr. Nakata!"
What a second. Back under? What the hell?
"Hey what do you mean back un-"
I didn't get a chance to finish my sentence before I felt the sharp pain of a needle sink into the side of my neck. Almost instantaneously, I felt my consciousness get stolen away from me. As I felt my eyes waver and close on their own, it felt like the lights just got brighter and brighter…
…
…
…
"Is she out?" Mr. Nakata asked.
"Yes sir! She won't be waking up for a while yet." Asher responded.
Mr. Nakata pondered something, deep in thought. He jotted down more and more notes.
"Asher, have her transferred back. Keep her there for a while yet. Then contact Dr. Agata and have him bring in the next batch ASAP. We've been moving too slowly with this." Mr. Nakata ordered his subordinate.
"Yes sir! I'm on it!" Asher just responded to his boss with a smile on his face as Mr. Nakata and the rest of the lab coat people shuffled out of the room.
Asher proceeded to tidy up the room, threw away used medical supplies, and turned all the cameras back on in the room. He never understood why Mr. Nakata wanted him to disable the cameras in the room before they bring in the patient and reenable them after she leaves, but he's just a grunt. He's not meant to question orders.
He finished cleaning up and started moving the patient out of the room. The wheels on her bed made it easier for Asher to move her out. As Asher started wheeling her down the hallway to her room, he started thinking. Thinking more about how he started working here. It was always his dream to work here, but he wasn't sure about all of this.
He looked down at her hair, her eyes, her body, and she just seemed like a normal girl. But every time he thinks that, it doesn't take long for him to remember why. To remember why she's *here*. To remember what she *did*.
"Dad…" Asher muttered out loud to no one it particular.
Asher considered himself a nice man. But he'd never forget what she did. It didn't matter what they do to her or what they inject her with, she deserved it all. But Asher stopped with his inner brooding when he reached her room. He unchained her from the bed and started to lift her off.
"I still feel weird handling a girl like this…" Asher thought out loud.
But Asher placed the unconscious patient down on the bed in her room. Asher gave her a blank yet melancholic look, then locked her door and left. He needed to contact Agata soon as well. Well, he had time. Mr. Nakata told him to do it ASAP, but it wasn't like the patient was going to escape or anything. He had time.
As the day winded down to a calming night, Asher settled down in his room. Today was another mentally exhausting day for him. He didn't know how much longer he could deal with this. Every time he sees her face, his father's face pops into his mind.
Ah! That reminded him of something!
Asher scrounged for his phone in his bag and called a number he was meaning to call. It rung twice before the person on the other side picked up.
"Hm? Is that you Asher? What do you need from me this late night?" The voice on the other side dripped with fatigue and age. They were clearly not happy being called this late at night.
"Ah, I'm sorry Mr. Yuto! I just needed to make some arrangements for my father's film studio!" Asher replied apologetically yet cheerfully.
The older man named Mr. Yuto tried to wake up enough to understand what Asher wanted from him. But Mr. Yuto had bad news to give Asher.
"Ah, I'm sorry Asher my boy. I sold it. I got a buyer who gave me double the asking price. I couldn't just reject that you know?" Mr. Yuto replied, now being on the apologetic side.
Asher froze for a moment, then slumped his shoulders. "O-oh okay! That's fine Mr. Yuto! Do you know who the buyer was?"
Mr. Yuto shook his head from over the phone. "Sorry my boy. They chose to stay anonymous. But the money is the real deal let me tell you! Ha ha!" Mr. Yuto gave a cheerful laugh, but Asher didn't reciprocate.
"Ah, okay, I was just curious is all. Well good night Mr. Yuto!" Asher rushed to hang up the phone and escape the conversation. Did someone really buy his dad's film studio? He knew it was a big and impressive building, but it just stings knowing it was out of Asher's life now. He wanted to keep the studio in the family, but it looks like that isn't happening now.
Asher sighed to himself and flopped down onto his bed.
"Well, I hope they take good care of it. I can't imagine they'd use it for malicious purposes at least. Heh."
Asher gave out a quiet and dry chuckle as he slowly drifted off to sleep.
Hey everybody! I'm ExtraMeme and I'm here with my first Danganronpa SYOC! I've had the idea for a while now, and I'm excited to make it a reality. But first things first, let's go over some things.
First, the themes of Obscurity's Disgrace.
A massive theme for my story will be Fame vs. Obscurity. For OCs, I'd like characters with some sort of relation to fame or obscurity. I won't be super strict about it, but it's just something for you to keep in mind.
Another theme will be Trauma. I know that's pretty broad and a dark theme. But just a little taste of what to expect.
But besides for that, I encourage creativity and originality!
Then I'd also like to give a quick shoutout to SilverMark16, Otterplay, and Nekoja. All 3 of them are basically the reason I even got motivation to put something like this in motion. They also have their own awesome SYOCs, so go check those out!
Now for guidelines:
1. As of right now, there is no deadline. Don't rush your forms, you have plenty of time. I'll update the story sometime in the future with an official deadline, so watch out for that.
2. There is no limit for submissions, but I will only accept one character per person. Unless literally nobody submits to my story but let's not jinx that!
3. For your OCs, they'll need to be already graduated from Hope's Peak. That's an important part, so please remember that.
4. I'm not going to be strict about how you title your forms, but please just included the story name and your OCs name and talent in it. More on that, I'd like all forms to be submitted on FF. But if you know me on discord and wish to send it to me there, that'd ok as well.
5. If you have questions about the story, the form, or anything, don't be afraid to PM me! But I can't promise I'll reply immediately. Or if you know me on discord, feel free to DM there as well.
That should be everything! It'll likely be a while until the next update, but I just wanted to get this out now. The only guarantee I'll give is that I'll at least update it sometime in 2024.
But I'm excited to get this off to a slow and steady start, and I hope you are too!
Don't get crushed under the weight of fame darlings! And have a good day/afternoon/night!
Now here is the form! I also have it on my profile as well.
