Chapter Eleven
A/N: I do not own anything other than my OCs when they come out to play. Everything else belongs to either Disney or the Greek Myths.
*blows horn in celebration* We did it you guys! We made it past 100 reviews! :D Thank you all so much for your support! :D
If anyone is wondering about Jade's father, that's just my own personal head canon rather than anything concrete. Then again, with Descendants, there's not really a lot of concrete parentage for the VKs than what's confirmed.
61394: Yep, but I don't think she cares to be honest!
AmethystDragon14: Yay! Lol very true! Oh thank you, I have to say I'm feeling rather proud myself! Hitting the double digits is always an amazing feeling! Oh no, the day Hades goes to Maleficent is the day pigs fly! And I love writing Shenzi too—deadly but reasonable is a great way to be! :D
OceanBlueSeaEyes: Aww! A baby Cerberus would be adorable! :D
Bluebird: Probably not just because the wedding made something canon that I don't think should be canon regarding Carlos (trying not to spoil in case no one's seen it) so I'll be sticking to my own universe.
danifan3000: Yeah the idea of puppies going to college is still something I can't wrap my head around. But then again, Auradon Prep has a campus mutt so maybe it's not that surprising.
twilightgirl587: Yep, we know it's Harry but they don't know it's Harry! :D hey, just because the kids make their alliance later doesn't mean the adults can't have an alliance of their own :D And yeah Tick Tock's on the Isle—he has kids apparently because in the books Harry tries to get them to bite off his hand so he'll need a hook like his dad. Shenzi's sister is an OC of mine, I figured there would be more than just Shenzi, Banzi and Ed.
LOST MUSES: You'd be right about that! And oh thank you! :D
Hope you guys enjoy this chapter! Let me know what you think! :D
Hades made his way down the streets of the Isle, hoping that no one would bother him. Granted no one usually bothered him to begin with but then again he usually didn't stroll down the Isle streets either.
However, there was a reason for his walkabout—or rather three reasons. As much as he'd grown to enjoy having the girls' company (along with that of their parents), the Underworld had gotten so loud that he could barely hear himself think at times. Persephone had recommended he start going on walks anyway, something about them being good for lowering his blood pressure, so it was a win-win in his book.
Why that even needs to be a thing Steph worries about is beyond me, Hades thought as he looked around the Isle. After all, we're Gods. If Zeus' blood pressure hasn't erupted by now, we're all in the clear. Then again, maybe being like my little brother isn't the best thing in the world. After all…he's not the most faithful spouse. How Hera was able to keep him in one spot long enough to get Hercules I'll never know….and that's enough thinking about my brother's activities in bed thank you! I might not be speaking to him, I might consider him dead to me, but even I don't want to think about…yeah, nope! Hey why don't we look at the Isle some more? Huh?
He wasn't going to lie, it was interesting how the Isle had seemingly changed over the years. Not that they finally had a medical system or anything, or got to see any glimpse of the sun, but his work load had evened out ever since he had established his alliance with the pirates which was honestly something Hades never thought possible.
One or two pirates stationed a the barge each month worked wonders at keeping the death toll lower. Oh sure there were still a fair few souls that showed up (after all people were still going to fight for whatever food they could get, that was just human nature). But anything that could reduce that load was something Hades was grateful for.
If only we could make it so that Maleficent didn't just swoop in and take everything she could, he thought as he shook his head. Honestly that alone would probably prevent the mass trampling than anything the pirates did since Maleficent takes about ninety to ninety five percent of the food on the monthly barge. But that likely would never happen or if it did, Maleficent would just torture whatever pirate got tasked to make sure she didn't take more than her fair share…and speaking of Maleficent, what's Jafar doing out here?
Sure enough, the former Viser was out at one of the taverns that the pirates usually frequented and he was with Gaston of all people. And it was also clear by the look on Jafar's face that he'd welcome anyone who could make Gaston go away.
Now Hades was quite fond at making Gaston go away whenever he could but that would involve him getting involved in whatever was going on which Hades was in no mind to do. The walk was to lower his flame point thank you and if he wound up in a conversation with Gaston, the likelihood of Hades erupting would increase.
Hades made to turn around as he was in no mood to have his brain cells melted by Gaston's prattle but it was too late.
"Ah Hades!" Jafar said as he caught sight of the God. "Come! Join us!"
"Yes! Hades! Join us in a round of beers!" Gaston cheered, causing more than a few eyes to fall on them. "My boys just brought down their first hunt after all! I'm celebrating with Jafar!"
Drat! Why wasn't I faster? Hades thought but went over as he could see the slight desperation behind Jafar's eyes, looking almost as if he would kill Gaston if Hades left him alone with the Frenchman. It was only fair wasn't it? After all, they had once been allies once upon a time so why shouldn't he rescue his former ally this one time?
However, not even Hades' arrival could stop Gaston's prattling about his twin sons—both named Gaston of course—and Hades wondered how long he had to stay before it would be socially acceptable for him to leave.
Not that the villains cared about what was socially acceptable or not but his 'Olympus' side was coming out to play so to speak. Some lessons one just didn't forget.
"Don't you leave me here to suffer the idiot," Jafar hissed, seeing the look in Hades' eyes.
"You dragged me in here, I see no reason why I should suffer," Hades shook his head. Thankfully, Gaston had consumed more than a fair number of alcoholic beverages so it didn't take long before he'd drank himself to unconsciousness.
I never thought I'd say this but at least he doesn't acknowledge his daughters, Hades thought as he watched the raven haired Frenchman make his way to the ground. That way the girls don't have to see their father in this state. I'd feel bad for the twin idiots too but they seem to be the spitting images of their father. It wouldn't surprise me to find them in the taverns at some point.
Milah and Mollie had kept their ear on the dial of the Isle's gossip chain to learn about Georgia, Gillian, and Glenn; Gaston's three most recent daughters on top of his eldest Piper. Not that Gaston would acknowledge them in anyway. Nope, all that mattered to him was getting a boy.
Maybe that was why he kept going at it. Just trying to get those six or seven 'strapping young lads' that he would say he'd told Belle about before she crushed his dream by ending up with Beast.
"If anyone asks, I knocked him out," Hades told Jafar, pulling his head out of his thoughts as he realized the former Vizier was still there.
"I doubt anyone would be asking but why in the world would you want to save the moron's reputation?" Jafar asked.
Hades rolled his eyes. "Because saving his reputation means we won't have to deal with him any more than we have to. Plus the idiot has kids who might be relying on his reputation to at least make sure they have an easier time at getting food?"
"Ah. Right." Jafar said and shook his head. Gaston's exploits weren't exactly secret to the Isle after all. "Dear Gods he can go on though! I mean I've recently known fatherhood myself, even if my son isn't quite the thief I would like him to be at a year old, but dear Gods Gaston would have you believe his son's were born from a Goddess."
"Trust me, not even Aphrodite would touch Gaston. Not even with Zeus' longest lightning bolt. Also…you have a kid? Huh…I didn't know that," Hades said. The idea of Jafar with a child was a bit…strange to Hades considering Jafar had wanted to marry a fifteen year old girl in his quest for power. Give Frollo some credit, at least he felt off about his want of a sixteen year old…and those were thoughts Hades never thought he'd have. "Congrats Jafar."
Jafar nodded as if to acknowledge the congratulation. "Yes, I was surprised myself. I wasn't expecting much if anything to come out of my dalliance with Jacqueline. But I can't say I was angry when she told me she was expecting. It gives me someone to train to stock my shelves so I won't need to do it myself. Especially since Nasira has forbidden me from using her child. In her words, she has higher ambitions for Jade."
"Well mothers can be a bit protective of their kids," Hades said, thinking about Milah and Mollie in particular. Those two were like mother bears protecting their cubs, though considering what the Isle was like that wasn't a bad attitude to have. "Especially here on the Isle. Though I don't exactly know what Nasira's plan is for her ambitions with Jade. It's not as if any of us are leaving the Isle any time soon."
Well other than Persephone but that goes without saying, Hades thought. The only good thing about her leaving is that she gets to come back and I think she's due back any day now! Memo to me, memo to me, make sure the date is on the calendar this time. Even if Harriet won't let me maim Pain for forgetting for the past two years.
"Don't ask me, but she considers thieving to be too 'lowly', like I don't know that! I used to whisper in sultans' ears!" Jafar said, pulling Hades out of his thoughts. "But anyway, she's insisting that Jade will have allies such as the Ladies Tremaine and 'Prince' Hans or even the pirates. After all, they have noteworthy connections," he added, giving Hades a small look at the end.
Hades shrugged. "Hook's girls would be good allies for Jade, I won't lie. Or even Sammy for that matter though she and Harriet are rather a packaged deal at this point despite their young age. Hook still thinks they'll form a crew together."
"Well it's not much of my concern, Jade's got to stand on her own two feet after all," Jafar said with a small shrug, almost as if he was trying to show distain for his niece but Hades knew better. After all, he did used to work with the sorcerer, he knew the guy's quirks.
And at least he had finally quit the evil laugh or 'flourish' as he used to call it. That made conversing with him all the more tolerable.
Hades couldn't help but give a shrug of his own. "She can do that and still have an alliance. An alliance on the Isle is better than not having one, just look at the young LeGume girls. Even if Nasira wants her to aim high, she can still aim high in terms of an alliance. Out of curiosity, who's her father? Nasira never said, not that I talk to Nasira much."
"Hans if you'd believe it," Jafar shook his head.
"Huh…that actually might explain why she wants Jade to aim high in terms of an alliance but where does the 'J' come from? Neither Nasira or Hans starts with a J…"
Jafar looked away before he spoke again. "…She shares a letter with me. If anything happened to Nasira…"
Hades nodded, not needing Jafar to say anymore though that only cemented his belief that Jafar did care for his niece in some way. "Well anyway, the higher you can get in with allies, the better off you'll be."
"Yes well…you certainly did alright for yourself in terms of allies," Jafar said, seemingly happy about the subject change.
Hades shrugged. "We both had something the other wanted."
"Really? What could the pirates have that you'd want?"
"That's for me to know and for you to never find out," Hades told him. He wasn't going to admit that he'd started to want Hook and the others around simply for their company. Especially not to Jafar who had Maleficent's ear. After all, if that got around the Isle, people might think Hades was getting soft which might lead them to try to go after the kids.
And even with the added alliance of the hyenas, that was not stress Hades wanted to put on Milah's shoulders right now. Not with the possibility of losing her child.
Jafar nodded slowly, after all he knew that Hades was not one to trifle with. Their brief alliance before the Isle had made that crystal clear to him.
Hades started to walk off, he had better things to do than waste his time shooting the breeze with Jafar of all people. He had things to do, people to see. Minions to yell at.
Though I won't lie, getting to see Gaston basically knock himself out with alcohol and having a fairly pleasant conversation with Jafar was…well it was nice, not that I'd ever actually admit it out loud, he thought, smirking as some of the lower level villains scurried to the other side of the street to avoid crossing his path. There we go, that's the respect I'm looking for. I mean, I don't need people lavishing praise on me like Zeusey does but a bit of healthy fear never hurt anyone.
Besides, if they don't fear me…I can't keep Jess, Harriet, and Sammy safe. Not to mention the new sunspot who's name has yet to be determined though Hook is adamant that the sunspot'll be a boy this time. I almost want to put money down just to see…wait, what was that?
"You! Annoyance!" Hades barked at one of Professor Rattigan's minions and grabbed him by the collar. "What was that thing you said?"
"…Ursula's…"
"What about Ursula? Spit it out, I don't have all day. Some of us have more important things to do with our time than listen to you stammer out an answer!"
"…She's with child…from what rumors have spread around the Isle, the squidling will be here by late March…"
Hades let the minion go out of shock and slight disgust, if only because he really didn't want to think about the actions his niece would have done to get with child in the first place.
Ursula's with child, Hook's having another kid…Jafar has a kid, honestly it's hard to believe that the next generation of the Isle's on its way so to speak, Hades thought as he made his way back to the Underworld. Well Poseidon will be happy anyway, another grandchild for him. And who knows, maybe the squidling won't be anything like their mother. Or Morgana for that matter. Honestly thank Gods she escaped the round up because both Ursula and Morgana on the same Isle would make me practically homicidal.
"Unca Hades!"
Hades chuckled at Harriet's cheer as he entered the Underworld. "Well now little pirate, sounds like you missed me?"
"Uh huh! Papa's sparring with Jessie and Sammy's with her mama so no one will spar with me!" Harriet pouted.
"Why not ask your mom?"
"Papa told me not to since she's having another baby! Will you spar with me Unca Hades?"
Hades paused as he heard the question. Honestly, he had never really sparred before—he had no need to learn after all since people generally feared him. But the look on Harriet's face was so earnest and pleading…Gods when did he get so soft?
"You got a sword I can use?"
"Of course!"
Hades chuckled. "Then come on. We'll get you all warmed up for sparring with your dad alright?"
Harriet cheered and the two of them made their way off to spar.
Yeah…life on the Isle's changed alright, Hades thought. But I wouldn't trade it for anything.
