Chapter Thirty Eight

A/N: I do not own anything other than my OCs when they come out to play. Everything else belongs to either Disney or the Greek myths!

*ducks projectiles* I know, I know! It's been a couple of months since I updated! Between getting writer's block and then re-writing the chapter, in addition to dealing with real life, there just hasn't been time. Plus the muse seemed to avoid this fic like the plague and when it did come to want to write, every turn was a left lol!

Lauriverfanboy1: As a Bal fan, I love being able to hint toward the future! But yeah, Beast definitely got off early.

AmethystDragon14: Yay! Well in this Beast's defense, he didn't have as much power as the other Beasts. Yes he set up the Isle but he wasn't High King. :D And how can you not love Eric? :D

danifan3000: And now I'm picturing that welcome scene and Ben's slight pause when he shakes Carlos' hand very differently…must resist urge to write lol

charmed princess imzadi: Thank you for having the idea!

top hat: Thank you!

OceanBlueSeaEyes: Lol when it comes to this scenario, I think a certain pink Bat is always a good guess for people to keep an eye on!

SaikoGoyangi: To quote Evie, True Love. Works every time! :D

Guest: I'm just hopeful the muse will allow it!

RedBlack: I did have to Google Translate so I might get some of this wrong but I'm glad you liked the chapter and I can always try to do something where Mal and Ben have separate partners but it all depends on the muse :D

IWantColouredRain: I think Maleficent choking on a pear and dying is an oddly specific way to kill someone but now I'm just curious if that could work lol

twilightgirl587: Hey, to quote Anna from Frozen: It's true love! :D

Guest: Anything's possible!

AliceCullen3: Oh yay! Also, yay you're back!

Guest: Anything's possible!

Hope you guys enjoy the chapter! Let me know what you think! :D

Hades' footsteps echoed off the walls of the living room as he paced around the Underworld; his normally stoic expression twisted into one of unbridled fury. Hook, Milah, Smee, and Mollie all sat on the couch; looking almost small compared to the seething God in their midst. Persephone, however, stood as close to her husband as his pacing would allow, her hand gently resting on his arm as she tried to calm him with her presence.

The air crackled with tension and all the mortals in the room made a note to not anger Hades anytime soon.

"Maleficent can't get away with this," Hades growled as he broke the silence, his voice a low rumble that reverberated through the living room. It was one of the rare times where one could see how he was related to the King of the Gods. "We made a grave mistake by not taking action when Malionë was first kidnapped but we couldn't risk her safety and Maleficent knew that. But now? Now is the time to act."

The determination in his voice was audible to everyone as he continued to pace back and forth. Fear and fury filled the room, making it feel as if a storm was brewing in the Underworld.

"Aye," Hook nodded, his eyes glinting in the excitement of a possible fight. "No one threatens the kids and gets away with it. Not even the self proclaimed 'Mistress of Hell'. But what can we do with the blasted barrier around the Isle?"

Hades sighed and opened his mouth to speak. But before he could say anything, Milah's voice cut through the air like a sharp blade; her tone full of determination. "We can't just do nothing," she said firmly.

"I don't think anyone said we would be doing nothing," Hades shook his head.

"Aye, Hades is right love," Hook nodded as he looked at his wife. "Why would you think we'd just sit by and do nothing?"

Milah sighed. "I know, I'm sorry. It's just…what if Maleficent tries again? What if she goes after Harry? Or Sammy, Harriet, or Jessica next?"

It was Hades' turn to sigh. "As much as I care about the girls and Harry, I have a feeling they'd be safe from Maleficent's gaze. They would hold no value to her. Not in the way Malionë does."

"What makes you so sure?" Hook asked as he leaned forward, raising an eyebrow slightly.

"Maleficent's magic is formidable," Hades explained, leaning against the stone wall. "We're lucky in that the barrier almost neutralizes her abilities, hence why Cassandra, Lance, and Hercules were able to get Malionë back so easily. Unfortunately, Maleficent's also not an idiot like the rest of the Isle. While your daughters bring magic to our lives, they don't physically have magic. And Maleficent knows the Isle is full of idiots so she'd want to steal a child with magic because otherwise, it might look like she produced a child without magical powers."

"And that would be a hit to her ego," Mollie nodded.

"Exactly," Hades said, as if thankful someone was able to follow where he was going.

Milah shook her head. "But what about Harry? Couldn't she steal him?"

Persephone shook her head. "The Fae have almost always had female descendants," she explained. "There have been some male Fae but they're few and far between, and for the people of the Isle, Maleficent has likely told them that the Fae only have daughters if she's revealed Malionë to the Isle. And since Malionë is of divine background, she wold be powerful enough for Maleficent to pass her off as her own child. No one would question it, especially since no one has seen Maleficent's hair so Malionë's purple wouldn't be a red flag."

"But couldn't Maleficent be luring us under a false sense of security?" Milah asked.

"And why on Gaia's green Earth would she do that?" Hades asked. "It's Maleficent, you know, woman who cursed a baby for not being invited to a party? Does she seem like the false sense of security type?"

"Hades, be nice," Persephone warned. "Milah's worried about her children, it's understandable."

Hades shook his head. "But what are we going to do about Maleficent? She can't go unpunished from stealing from a God."

"Didn't you say Lord Poseidon offered to flood her castle?" Smee asked, looking at Persephone.

"He did," Persephone nodded. "Hercules apparently informed all of Olympus what his father failed to do for us and there has been a temporary change in power. Poseidon now rules Olympus."

"He what?"

"I've told you this months ago dear," Persephone shook her head as Hades looked at her in shock. "In fact, I have plans to meet up with him when Malionë and I return to Auradon in a few weeks to go over the changes to Olympus."

"Meaning we have limited time to enact our revenge before you have to go," Hades said with a small sigh before pausing. "Why can't we have Poseidon flood her castle again?"

"Because according to Cassandra, Bargain Castle doesn't have running water and considering it's in the middle of the Isle, that would involve flooding most of the Isle," Persephone said. "Which would likely lead to more souls in the Underworld and more paperwork for you, dear."

Hades made a face at that. "No thank you! I'd rather not have Maleficent be the cause of me missing out on even more time with my daughter!"

"What if we truly do nothing?" Mollie asked. "Didn't someone once say that living happily is the best revenge?"

"Whoever said that is an idiot and has never met Maleficent," Hades said. "Trust me, living happily would not be enough revenge against her."

Hook cleared his throat. "I have an idea, if we're completely against the whole 'killing her' plan."

"That was a plan?"

"What's your idea, James?" Milah asked, ignoring Hades' question.

"Well you know the one thing Maleficent loves is power right?"

"Pretty sure everyone knows that."

"What if we got everyone to vote for someone else in the next Isle election?" Hook suggested. "An Isle wide mutiny?"

"How would that work?" Mollie asked. "The only one with enough power to counter the fear people have of Maleficent would be Hades."

"And there's no way I'm ruling those idiots," Hades shook his head. "Bad enough I have to rule the idiots who die, I'm not ruling the live ones too."

"What about Evil Queen?" Hook suggested. "She's always trying to take power from Maleficent every few years anyway."

Hades shook his head. "You honestly expect your pirates to not switch their vote the minute Maleficent glares at them? It's an Isle wide caucus anyway, everyone knows who people vote for."

"I think they're more afraid of my husband than they are Maleficent at this point, he did toss someone overboard for Ticktock to eat after he heard the crew member wanted to join Frollo," Milah said.

"So you're saying that they wouldn't rebel against him?" Hades asked.

"They're idiots but they're not fools," Hook nodded.

Mollie nodded as well. "The crew of The Rose would stand with you, Hades. We have an alliance with The Jolly Rodger that has lasted years and if they sided with you, we would as well."

"Okay…I guess that could work," Hades said. "When's the next election?"

"Not for a couple of years," Milah sighed. "Are we all okay with waiting that long?"

"…Can we kidnap a goblin to feed to Cerberus?" Hades asked.

"Who has Cerberus?" Persephone asked. "I mean, he's not here so…"

"Hercules has him, he told me when Ariel was contacting Demeter to get you to come early," Hades told her. "I mean, he'll probably object to feeding a goblin to Cerberus and it's not like Maleficent would notice one of her minions missing but it would make me feel like I got something over her while we wait for the election."

"…What if I gave him to Zeus for target practice?"

"We're not rewarding Zeus!"

"What about giving the goblin to Poseidon to feed to a shark?"

"That's better. I'm pretty sure Hercules wouldn't be okay with feeding the goblin to Cerberus anyway, he's got kids and you don't want Cerberus thinking it's okay to eat small things," Hades said with a nod.

"Right then, I will make sure to kidnap a goblin before Malionë and I leave for Auradon," Persephone nodded before pausing. "And that is a sentence I didn't think I would ever say."

"Maleficent or anything related to Maleficent causes one to say and do things that they never thought they would say," Hades nodded. "But now that we have our plan, I'm going to go spend time with Malionë before she has to go back to Auradon."

"Isn't she asleep? What are you going to do? Sit in her room?" Hook asked.

"You say that like it's a bad thing," Hades said.

"…Now that you say that, I should take over Harriet and Jess' 'guard' shift. Always good to trade shifts after all, no sense in having the girls get tired."

Milah and Persephone shook their heads in amusement as their husbands walked off.

"Not going to join them in their guard shifts, William?" Milah asked.

"Oh no Captainess, you know the Captain would be very cross if I wasn't out here to make sure you were safe and protected," Smee said, nodding his head slightly.

"Even though he knows I'm skilled with a sword?" Milah asked, raising an eyebrow before shaking her head in slight amusement at her husband's behavior.

"Even the most skilled swords person in the crew needs protection," Smee told her. "Not to mention, the Captain and the little ones would be devastated if anything were to happen to you, Captainess."

Milah nodded softly, she knew how much her husband cared for her. And she also knew how devastated she'd be if anything happened to him which was why she was so thankful for the alliance with Lord Hades.

"Is Lord Posideon really ruling Olympus now?" Mollie asked, looking at Persephone.

"As far as I know," Persephone nodded. "Hercules likened it to Zeus being put in a time out so who knows if it will go back to the status quo but for right now, Poseidon's in charge."

"Good," Mollie said. "I mean no disrespect to Lord Zeus, he's Lord Hades' brother after all—."

"I think Hades would say that he'd be more offended if you didn't mean disrespect to Zeus," Persephone said, shaking her head. "And in all honesty, after what happened with getting Malionë back, I'm not feeling all that charitable to him as well."

Milah sighed. "Offending any of the Gods could mean trouble but if we were on a ship and lightning were to strike…most of our ships are wooden after all," she said softly. "Who knows what damage a fire would cause to the Isle?"

It was Persephone's turn to sigh. She hadn't thought about that. "Well then…I guess there is a good reason to not offend Zeus. But let's move on to a happier topic. Shall we join James and Hades in their guarding of the children?"

"I think that would be a wonderful idea," Milah nodded. "William, Mollie, will you be joining us?"

"I should probably go and do my job as captain of my own ship," Mollie said with a wry chuckle. "Though watching Lord Hades and Captain Hook guard Harry and Malionë would be much more entertaining."

"I'm sure they'll still be at it by the time you get back," Smee told her and gently kissed her cheek causing all the women in the room to smile.

"Will you be okay here by yourself?"

Smee nodded. "I'd rather be in ear shot in case the Captain needs me," he said and Mollie gave her husband a small smile before getting up. Milah and Persephone followed suit and the three women walked out of the room before splitting off in two separate directions; one to end to her pirate ship and the other two to see what madness their husbands had gotten into.
