|TEAM ROCKET|

Harry had only taken a single step when he suddenly stopped.

"Shit, the Pokédex," he muttered, fishing it out of his pocket. He was so happy to see Hedwig that he'd almost forgot to check what she could do.

The orange brick felt strange in his hand, so different from his wand. He flipped it open and pointed the camera at Hedwig. There was a 'scan' button in the corner. Harry tapped it.

Hoothoot, the Owl Pokémon. Hoothoot has an internal clock that keeps precise time without variation. It has a special organ that can sense the Earth's rotation. This Pokémon begins hooting at precisely the same time every day.

Gender: Female, Height: 2'05

This Hoothoot knows the moves: Peck, Confusion, and Tackle.

Harry whistled impressed as he tucked the pokedex away. "Those are some powerful moves."

Hedwig preened at the praise and bumped her head against his, hooting happily at the attention.

Harry scratched her beak. "Ready to—" he was cut off when the ground suddenly lurched underneath his feet. He flailed, the tall grass providing nothing for his hands to grab onto as the violent quake knocked his legs out from under him.

"What was that?" He muttered, pushing himself back to his feet. Had a Steelix or Onix just passed under ground?

A prickle ran down his spine. The forest had gone oddly quiet, only the rustling grass and the rushing river breaking the heavy silence.

Suddenly, a flash of green caught his attention. A small figure burst from a nearby thicket, its movements frantic and erratic. Harry's eyes went wide. That's a Celebi!

The mythical time-traveling Pokémon, zoomed past him, its fairy-like wings beating furiously. But something was wrong. Instead of its usual graceful flight, Celebi's movements were strained and jerky.

"Bi! Bi!" Celebi's high-pitched cries echoed through the woods, filled with unmistakable distress.

Branches snapped behind it as two figures in midnight-black uniforms crashed through the foliage. The crimson 'R' on their chests was just as easily recognizable to Harry as Celebi.

Team Rocket.

A Houndoom bounded past the grunts, quickly overtaking them. The Pokémon's red eyes focused on Celebi as it closed the gap between them. Beside the male grunt lumbered a heavily armored Aggron, its metal hide clanking with each thunderous step.

"There it is!" the female grunt shouted, her orange-blonde ponytails whipping in the wind as she pointed at Celebi. "Don't let it escape, Butch!"

"I see it, Cassidy," said the green-haired man.

"Houndoom, Flamethrower!" Cassidy ordered.

The dark canine Pokémon's ribs expanded as it inhaled deeply. Harry's fingers tightened around the Elder wand, muscle memory from years of magical battles kicking in.

"Incendio!" he shouted, aiming his wand at the oncoming flames.

A jet of flames burst from Harry's wand just as Houndoom unleashed its Flamethrower. The two streams of fire collided midair in a in a dazzling explosion of orange and red.

Celebi trilled in alarm, its injured wings beating desperately as it tried to gain altitude.

"What the—" Butch sputtered, finally noticing Harry's presence. "Who are you? How did you do that?"

Harry ignored the question. "Leave Celebi alone," he warned, keeping his wand trained on the Team Rocket duo.

Cassidy's eyes narrowed. "This doesn't concern you, kid. Walk away now, and we'll forget we saw you."

"Not a chance," Harry shot back, shifting his stance to place himself between Team Rocket and the weakened Celebi.

Butch sneered. "Have it your way. Aggron, Stone Edge! Take them both out!"

The steel behemoth reared up on its hind legs before smashing down with earth-shaking force. Harry stumbled, nearly losing his footing as the ground shuddered again beneath his feet. Gravel and stones exploded upwards from the point of impact glowing with an eerie white light before shooting forward like bullets.

"Protego!" Harry slashed his wand through the air.

A shimmering magical barrier materialized between Celebi and the glowing stones. Sparks of energy flared at each point of impact, the rocks ricocheting off the magical shield in various directions with a resounding CRACK!

For a moment, it seemed Harry's spell would hold. More stones crashed against the Protego, causing the barrier to ripple and flex like a soap bubble under pressure. Each hit sent vibrations through the shield, the magical energy visibly straining to maintain its form.

But there were too many. Harry couldn't stop them all. As the barrage continued, hairline fractures began to appear in the translucent surface. With a sound like breaking glass, the shield finally shattered. The remaining stones burst through the failing barrier, forcing Harry to dive for cover.

"Celebi, look out!"

Celebi tried to doge the rocks, but it was growing more sluggish with each passing second. One chunk clipped Celebi's shoulder with a sickening thud. The mythical Pokémon listed sideways, wobbling badly. Then two more stones found their mark, slashing across Celebi's thigh and side.

With a thin, despairing whistle, Celebi's wings folded completely. Harry watched in horror as Celebi began to plummet towards the ground.

"Arresto Momentum!" he thrust his wand forward.

Celebi's descent slowed as though the Pokemon was sinking through water instead of falling out of the sky. Gently, carefully, Harry guided the injured creature to the ground, setting it down on a soft patch of grass. Celebi's eyes were squeezed shut in pain, its small form trembling. It struggled weakly to rise then slumped in defeat, unable to take flight with shredded wings and bleeding wounds.

Harry's eyes darted between Team Rocket and Celebi's helpless form. His fingers tightened around the Elder Wand. He had to do something!

"Stupefy!" he said, aiming at Butch. A jet of red light burst from his wand, streaking towards the green-haired grunt.

But Aggron was faster than it looked. The steel titan lumbered in front of its trainer, the Stunning Spell bouncing harmlessly off its thick armor-plated hide.

"Enough games," Cassidy snarled. "Houndoom, Dark Pulse!"

Houndoom's jaw opened, dark energy swirling between its fangs. Harry's mind raced, searching for a solution.

"Hedwig—Confusion, now!"

Hedwig's eyes began to glow with psychic energy unleashing waves of psychic power directly at Houndoom.

The Confusion attack struck Houndoom just as it was about to release its Dark Pulse. The dark canine Pokémon yelped in surprise, its aim thrown off completely. The swirling vortex of dark energy shot wide, missing Harry and Celebi entirely.

Instead, the Dark Pulse slammed into a nearby tree with tremendous force. For a split second, nothing happened. Then, with a deafening boom, the tree exploded as if a bomb had gone off inside it sending splinters and branches flying in all directions.

"What the—" Butch sputtered, shielding his face from the debris.

Harry seized the moment of chaos. "Hedwig, return!" he said, holding her Pokéball up.

Instantly, a bright beam of light enveloped the small owl-like Pokémon. Once she was safely back inside her ball, Harry pointed his wand at the ground between him and Team Rocket, and yelled, "Confingo!"

The spell flew through the air, exploding the dirt and riocheting back at him, bouncing from ground to trees; Harry felt the heat of it sear the back of his hand. Bark cut his cheek as he turned his back on the two Rocket Grunts and ran for Celebi, scooping the injured Pokémon up like a quaffle. He tucked it to his chest, careful of its injuries, and started running.

He had never run so fast in his life.

"Oh no you don't!" Cassidy shouted, recovering quickly. "After them!"

Harry's lungs burned as he sprinted down the dirt road of Route 1, his legs threatening to give out from under him at any moment. He jumped over a large tree that only moments ago had been standing. The air around him was sizzling with heat, torching the air on his arms. The exploding rock shards weren't exactly helping either, with tree bark and dirt flying in every imaginable direction.

This is not how today was supposed to go! Harry thought as he risked a quick glance behind him. Butch and Cassidy were already chasing after him, the dust and debris from his Confringo spell not slowing them down a second.

"You can't run forever, kid!" Butch yelled from behind him. "Hand over that Celebi now, and we'll let you leave with your Pokémon!"

Harry faced forward again, scoffing as he pushed his aching legs to keep pumping. He didn't believe that promise for a second. Maybe if it was Jessie and James from the Pokémon Anime chasing him, he would have believed it, but even then, he wouldn't have handed Celebi over. There was only one reason why Team Rocket would want Celebi—the Mythical Pokémon's time-traveling ability.

"That Pokémon belongs to Team Rocket now," Cassidy screamed. "Flamethrower!"

The Houndoom nipping at Harry's heels let out an ear-piercing howl as it unleashed a Flamethrower attack. Harry reacted instinctively, curling his body around Celebi to take the brunt of the blistering stream of fire across his back in order to shield the already injured Pokemon.

The force of the blast sent Harry hurtling violently forward, white-hot agony searing through his body. He slammed into the dirt road face first, losing his hold on Celebi as the breath exploded from his lungs on impact. Houndoom sprang forward to press its advantage, its massive form crashing onto Harry and pinning him to the ground. Its crimson eyes glowed with a feral light, and its sharp fangs glinted in the sunlight as it snarled and drooled, saliva dripping onto Harry's face. The heat of its breath was suffocating, and the smell of sulfur made his eyes water.

Pain exploded from Harry's arm as Houndoom's jaws clamped down, sharp teeth piercing through skin and muscle. The Pokémon's razor-sharp claws scraped down Harry's back, tearing through fabric and flesh. Harry cried out in pain and fought to push the Pokémon off of him, rolling over and kicking his legs out trying to protect himself. But the Houndoom was relentless, its teeth and claws digging into his chest.

Desperately, Harry kicked out with one leg, his boot getting caught in Houndoom's jaw. With his arms free, he pointed his wand at Houndoom, "Confringo!" he screamed again; Houndoom was blasted off him and flew out of sight howling in surprise and pain.

The momentary distraction gave Harry a chance to push himself away and scramble to safety. He picked Celebi back up, ready to start running again despite the blood flowing from the numerous injuries on his chest and back.

a massive shadow fell over him. It was Rhyhorn, charging towards him like a bull. Harry felt the weight of its powerful body smash into his side like a battering ram. All the air was knocked out of him, and he found himself airborne, the world spinning as he was flung like a ragdoll.

Harry closed his eyes and twisted in the air so he would hit the ground first, bracing for impact. When he hit the ground, he gasped at the sudden shock of freezing water against his skin.

His eyes shot open, and Harry found himself underwater. He hadn't landed on the ground at all but in a river!

Why am I in the water? Harry wondered, watching as a school of Magikarp swam by him. He felt himself being pulled downriver after the piscine Pokémon. Holding his breath as long as he could, Harry let himself be pulled along...farther and further away from Team Rocket and their vicious Pokémon.

He still couldn't believe he'd met two jackasses like that on his first day as a Pokémon Trainer.

No, Harry couldn't believe people or Pokémon like that even existed in the world!

He felt his lungs start to burn from the lack of air and forced his tired legs to move. When Harry finally broke the surface, gasping for air, the sunny afternoon had become a monsoon. The sky was now a menacing shade of grey with dark storm clouds looming overhead, spewing out torrents of rain that pelted his face like tiny needles and pounded against the surface of the water.

What the—

Harry was confused for a split moment before he remembered which Pokémon he was holding in his arms. Celebi must have sent them through time when he had closed his eyes.

The river surged around Harry like a living thing, icy tendrils trying to drag him under. He tightened his grip on Celebi, holding the small Pokémon close to his chest as the rapids carried them relentlessly downstream.

Harry knew they were being swept toward a waterfall—he could hear the rumble growing louder by the second. He tried to swim against the force of the river. Harry could feel his muscles straining and his lungs burning for air. He had to get them out of the water before they reached the waterfall's edge. But as hard as he tried, the current was too strong, and it was pulling him closer and closer.

He looked around desperately, hoping for something to grab onto, but there was nothing—no branches or rocks, nothing! Celebi had dropped them right in the middle of the river, and there wasn't a thing he could grab to stop the current from pulling them towards the waterfall.

All he could do was curl himself around Celebi and brace for the drop.

They went over the edge.

Harry clamped his eyes shut, bracing for impact. The plunge into the basin knocked the wind out of him, the impact blasting the air from his lungs as icy black water closed over his head. Spinning uncontrollably, it took all of his strength not to lose his grip on Celebi as the current pummeled them from every side. The lack of air made his chest burn, and sparkles of light danced across his vision.

Just when Harry thought his lungs were going to fail and the last bubbles of air would slip from his lips, the current suddenly weakened and spat them out into a large lake.

For a long moment, Harry simply focused on dragging air into his burning lungs as he floated in place. Celebi too gulped at the air, its sides heaving.

Until something huge moved in the depths below. Harry's eyes widened in sudden terror as a leviathan shape circled upward toward them with lazy confidence.

There was only one Pokémon in the rivers around Pallet Town this enormous.

Gyarados.

Pokemon will kind of be like Magical creatures. Harry's spells will work on some(depending on how powerful the Pokemon is) but it won't be nearly as effective as it is against humans!
