Summary: Jake, Amelia, and Henry arrive in town to surprise Addison earlier than expected.
"Hi," Audrey said, not knowing what else to say.
"Henry, this is your sister," Jake started.
"Sissy?" Henry asked, scrunching his nose and referring to Angela as that's what he usually called her. Except he knew this wasn't Angela, so he was confused.
"Yeah. This is your other sister, Audrey," Jake explained.
"Can you say hi?" Jake asked, encouraging the little boy.
"Hi, Audi," Henry said, waving.
"Audrey," Jake corrected him.
"Audi," Henry repeated himself. They all laughed.
"He's still figuring out his R's. And L's sometimes. He calls Angela, Angewa. Or Sissy," Jake revealed, chuckling.
"Don't worry about it. It's cute," Audrey commented, smiling at her little brother.
"What about Lexie? Can you say my name?" Lexie asked playfully.
"Lexie," Henry said easily. Lexie got excited and smiled widely, which only made Henry even happier.
"How old are you, Henry?" Audrey asked.
"Two!" Henry showed Audrey his two fingers, making the girls coo over him even more.
"Henry, you wanna let them play with you?" Jake suggested, handing him his small backpack.
He nodded back enthusiastically, grabbed a toy plane and a toy boat, and handed them to the girls. After playing with the toys for a few minutes, Amelia slid onto the chair and grabbed a French fry from Lexie's tray.
"Auntie!" Henry cheered.
"Hey, kid. Miss me already?" Amelia picked up the little boy, placed him on her lap, and put her chin on his head.
"Nice to see you, too, Amelia," Lexie said, pulling her tray of fries closer. She didn't mind sharing, but she would've liked her to ask first. Amelia smiled, expressing a little guilt, before turning her attention to Audrey.
"Wow, Ange wasn't kidding," Amelia commented.
"What?" Audrey asked, confused.
"You really do look like Addie," Amelia chuckled.
"Oh…yeah," Audrey smiled shyly. She'd just have to get used to everyone reminding her how much she looked like her mother, she thought.
"I'm Amelia, also known as your favorite aunt," Amelia said, smiling.
"How do you know you're gonna be the favorite? Who says I can't be the favorite?" Lexie asked playfully.
"Because I'm always the favorite," Amelia said. Lexie rolled her eyes playfully before they got back to playing with Henry.
Another few minutes passed before two more people joined them.
"You know, I heard you got stuck on babysitting duty, but I didn't think it meant you were watching an actual baby," Cristina remarked as she walked by, clearly directing her comment toward Lexie. She rolled her eyes as Cristina and Meredith scooted next to her.
"So, who's this?" Meredith asked.
"This is Henry," Amelia said, picking up one of Henry's hands to wave. He giggled at the gesture.
"And he's…?" Meredith asked, waiting for someone to fill her in.
"Henry; my son," Jake chimed in.
"And Addison's," Lexie added.
Meredith and Cristina nodded with pleasantly surprised looks on their faces.
"So, that must make you Addison's husband," Meredith gathered.
"Yes. Dr. Jake Reilly," Jake said, introducing himself.
"Doctor. I guess we all really just stick to our breed, don't we?" Cristina joked, smirking. Everyone laughed as Audrey smiled along.
"It's not like we really have time to socialize with anyone else," Amelia added sarcastically.
"Where is Addie, anyway?" Amelia asked. She figured she'd be here with Audrey.
"Dr. Webber roped her into a surgery," Lexie explained.
"Of course he did," Meredith commented.
It was pretty obvious that Richard always wanted Addison to come back to work here, but Addison never budged. She came back every year or so when he called for her help, but she would be on a flight back home once it was over. And it made sense; Addison was one of the best surgeons in the country, in the world, really, and having her in Seattle would just help with the hospital's overall reputation. It didn't change the fact that Addison made it clear she was perfectly happy in Los Angeles, despite always coming back. Regardless, Richard tried to change her mind every time she came back.
"I've gotta go. You guys got her?" Lexie asked after pulling out her pager.
"Yeah. Don't worry about it," Jake replied before Lexie pushed the tray of leftover fries to Amelia and left.
As Lexie went back to pick up her lab results, she passed by Callie and Mark, talking in the hallway.
"Hey, where's Audrey?" Mark asked when he didn't see her with her.
"Is that her name? Addie's kid?" Callie asked. By now, word had spread all around the hospital about Derek and Addison's daughter showing up.
"Yeah," Mark replied quickly, keeping his focus on Lexie.
"She's in the cafeteria with everyone," Lexie said.
"Who's everyone?" Mark asked.
"Meredith, Cristina, Amelia, Jake, and Henry," Lexie recounted, trying to get the names right.
"Amy's here?" Mark asked.
"And Jake and Henry?" Callie asked.
"Who?" Mark asked.
"Addison's family. Keep up, will you?" Callie joked.
"Yes. They're all in the cafeteria. I've gotta go," Lexie said, getting another page before leaving.
Mark and Callie looked at each other with the same idea and rushed to the cafeteria. They found exactly what Lexie had told them: Meredith, Cristina, Audrey, and Henry. Jake had gotten up for a phone call before they got there and walked away after making sure Amelia was good to watch Henry for a bit.
"Hey, kid," Mark greeted as he sat down beside Audrey, with Callie sitting across from her.
"Um…hi," Audrey said awkwardly, eyeing the woman alongside Mark.
"Callie Torres. I'm friends with your mom. And your dad," Callie said, introducing herself to the teenager. Audrey smiled politely back. 'I guess I'm meeting everyone today', she thought.
Mark saw the little boy dragging a toy car on the table while sitting on Amelia's lap and waved playfully at him. He smiled back before turning his attention back to his car.
Then Meredith and Cristina's pagers went off.
"We gotta go. I'll see you later, Audrey," Meredith said nicely before she and Cristina got up from the table and left.
"That's a cool car you've got there," Callie commented. Henry smiled big before handing her the toy boat sitting on the table. Callie giggled before joining him.
"Amelia, I know you're all grown-up now, but you should've told me I had a nephew," Mark joked. He knew it wasn't Amelia's kid. Callie rolled her eyes playfully.
"Very funny," Amelia said sarcastically.
"Where's Jake?" Callie asked.
"He's around somewhere; he left to take a phone call," Amelia filled her in.
"Who?" Mark asked.
"Addison's husband," Callie replied, shaking her head.
"Which means you must be Henry," Callie cooed.
"That's my name, Auntie!" Henry exclaimed, looking up at Amelia.
"That's right, squirt," Amelia smiled and pulled him in tighter on her lap for a second before letting him go back to playing.
While Mark and Callie stayed with Amelia, Audrey, and Henry, Jake took a phone call from his sister, Ximena, who called for an update. He'd told her after work yesterday about everything going on with Addison and Audrey, and he texted before his flight to tell her they were going to Seattle.
"So, how long are you guys gonna be there?" Ximena asked.
"I don't know. Maybe a week?" Jake replied.
"Did you see her yet?" Ximena asked.
"Yeah," Jake confirmed.
"Does she look like her?" Ximena asked.
"Yeah, she does. Other than the hair color and maybe her nose," Jake said, knowing she'd want the details.
"Was Addie surprised?" Penelope asked, chiming in. Jake chuckled; of course, she was with his other sisters, too.
"I haven't seen her yet, Pen," Jake said.
"Why not? Go find her!" Camila added.
"Alright, I'll find her," Jake chuckled.
"Tell them we say hi!" Penelope said.
"I will. I'll talk to you guys later," Jake said before hanging up the phone.
After putting his phone back in his pocket, he realized he'd walked farther than he intended to. He'd walked across the bridge and ended up at the elevator. If he'd gone past that, he would've ended up in the ER and the patient rooms. He was about to turn back but decided against it and instead texted Amelia.
Hey, you okay with keeping Henry for a while?
Yeah, why?
I'm gonna go find Addison. See if I can surprise her.
Go ahead. Tell her I say hi!
Jake chuckled and headed over toward the emergency room and moved past to get to the neonatal floor. While he looked around, a blonde doctor took notice.
"Hi there, did you need something?" Arizona asked.
"Oh, uh, yeah. I'm looking for Dr. Montgomery," Jake replied.
"Let me see here," Arizona said, looking something up on her tablet.
"1528. Just down the hall over there," Arizona said, pointing him in the right direction.
"Thanks, Dr…Robbins," Jake said, looking at the nametag on her lab coat for her name.
"Anytime," Arizona smiled before walking away.
Before Jake got to the room Arizona pointed at, he saw Addison walk out of the room, looking down at her tablet as another doctor followed her. He watched them talk for a minute as he walked up, ready to surprise his wife.
"Like riding a bike, huh?" Richard asked teasingly. Addison chuckled and shook her head, her eyes still on the tablet as she added her notes. Richard tried to get her to come back to work here every time she came to visit.
"I am still a surgeon, Richard," Addison reminded him.
"Not at a trauma one hospital," Richard pointed out teasingly.
"Okay, I'm gonna say this once and one time only because I'm probably gonna be in town for a while. I am perfectly happy in L.A. with my family, my friends, and my practice. I appreciate the offer, Richard, but I am not looking to uproot my life again. Not when I finally feel at home there," Addison said. Richard sighed; he knew to expect as much, but he still had to try.
"Well, that's good to know," Jake commented once he was within ten feet of his wife.
Addison immediately recognized his voice and widened her eyes before looking up from the tablet. Her entire face lit up as the corners of her lips turned upwards before she put the tablet down at the nurse's station and walked over quickly to squeeze him tight. When they pulled away, Jake leaned down to kiss her, and she wrapped her arms around him, deepening the kiss.
"You're here," Addison said, her voice getting emotional. Jake smiled and Addison could feel herself blushing.
"How are you here already?" Addison asked, still in disbelief.
"Laura Collins' water broke like an hour after I got off the phone with you last night," Jake chuckled. It was almost midnight, but he called Amelia to watch Henry for the night, knowing she was likely still awake.
Addison giggled as she planted one more kiss on his lips and turned to see Richard again, who had been standing back and watching.
"Richard, my husband, Dr. Jake Reilly," Addison said, introducing the two as they walked back over.
"I figured as much," Richard commented, chuckling. Addison really did look happier with him, he thought.
"It's nice to meet you," Jake said, shaking his hand.
"So, what kind of doctor are you?" Richard asked, curious.
"I'm a fertility specialist," Jake replied. Richard smiled politely. It wasn't what he expected for Addison.
"He's also double-board certified and gives me a hand in the OR whenever I need it," Addison added. Jake was always so modest about his credentials.
"You're a surgeon, too? What specialty?" Richard asked, much more interested in the man now.
"General," Jake replied. Richard nodded.
"Impressed now?" Addison asked sarcastically. They all chuckled.
"You are…not where I thought you'd end up, Addie, but you look happier than I've ever seen you," Richard commented.
Jake and Addison smiled back, glancing at each other quickly before looking back at Richard.
"Wait, where's Henry?" Addison asked, suddenly remembering their son.
"In the cafeteria with Amelia and Audrey," Jake replied.
"You…you met Audrey?" Addison asked.
"We did," Jake confirmed.
"Well, we're done here if you wanna head back," Richard said. Jake and Addison smiled.
"Thanks for your help, Addie," Richard said.
"For you? Always," Addison said, smiling. Richard nodded before walking away to get back to work.
Jake held onto Addison's waist as they watched Richard walk away and the rest of the hospital continue to work around them.
"You ever miss this?" Jake asked, looking over at his wife.
"Sometimes. But I wouldn't trade what we have for the world," Addison smiled, turning to get a better look at him and wrapping her arms around his neck.
"By the way, my sisters say hi," Jake chuckled. Addison's face lit up. She loved Jake's sisters.
"That reminds me, It's been too long since they've been over," Addison said, mentally figuring out when they could realistically get together for dinner. Jake chuckled.
They knew the minute they went over to the cafeteria, they'd go back to reality. Wanting it to last a little longer, she leaned back in for another kiss. As they stood with their arms around each other near the nurse's station, Derek came out from around the corner with Meredith and Cristina, talking about a patient where they noticed the two.
"Are you okay?" Meredith asked.
"Yeah," Derek said, trying to brush it off, but his eyes remained on the couple.
"Not so easy when it's the other way around, is it?" Cristina said. Derek and Meredith turned to face her.
"What? She was around when you and McDreamy were making googly eyes at each other, and you were still married. It's only fair you get to see her and…what are we gonna call him?" Cristina asked, making a good point.
Derek never really thought about that. He was so entranced by Meredith in the early days, and he thought he did a good job of hiding it, but the truth was, he didn't. Everyone knew it, Addison included. And Derek knew it, too. He didn't want to admit that he had any fault in their divorce or Addison leaving Seattle, but he did. The truth was, he liked having her around now. She no longer reminded him of the daughter they lost and the complete heartache that came with it. Now she was just Addie.
"I thought we were done with the Mc nicknames," Derek commented.
"You wish, McDreamy," Cristina replied, snickering.
As they stood there, Jake and Addison pulled away and they continued watching as the couple started talking and Alex, April, and Jackson joined them.
"What are we looking at?" Jackson asked.
"Addison's new husband," Cristina answered.
"He's not new," Derek and Meredith said in unison.
"Okay…why are we looking at them?" Alex asked.
"Yeah, isn't this like invading their privacy or something?" April asked.
"He needs a nickname," Cristina said.
"Why?" Jackson asked.
"Because," Cristina shrugged.
"Because why?" April asked.
"Because it's fun, Virgin Mary," Cristina snickered. April made a face; she hated being called that.
"Wait, what's my nickname then?" Jackson asked.
"Pretty boy," Alex, Meredith, and Cristina said in unison. Jackson sighed; he regretted asking.
"McSuntan," Alex snickered. It was the best he could think of at the moment. Cristina and Meredith giggled at the name.
"McGorgeous," April said.
"Okay, I'm leaving," Derek commented before walking towards Jake and Addison. Meredith scurried after him until she caught up as he walked over to Jake and Addison.
"Hey, Addie," Derek called out. Addison turned and saw Derek and Meredith making their way toward them.
"Hey. Derek, Meredith, this is my husband, Jake. Jake, this is Derek and Meredith," Addison said, introducing everyone.
"Nice to meet you," Jake said, holding out his hand to shake. Derek took it willingly and nodded while Meredith smiled back politely.
"You guys going to see Audrey?" Derek asked.
"Yeah, we were just leaving," Addison replied.
"Mind if we come? I just finished here," Derek said. He looked over at Meredith, checking to see if she was also free.
"Oh, yeah, me too," Meredith added.
"Yeah. Jake said they're all in the cafeteria," Addison agreed easily as they all walked away.
They got to the cafeteria and found Amelia, Audrey, Henry, and even Angela. After Addison got out of surgery, she told Angela she'd meet her later since there were some post-op things she had to do, so Angela went over to the cafeteria. When she did, she found everyone else. Now Jake, Addison, Derek, and Meredith were doing the same.
"Mommy!" Henry exclaimed, squirming in Amelia's arms.
"Okay, okay. Hold on, squirt," Amelia laughed, repositioning the boy in her arms and standing up to hand him over to Addison.
"Hi, baby! I missed you!" Addison squeezed him tight and kissed his cheek, making him giggle.
"I see you've met Audrey," Addison commented as Henry snuggled under her chin.
"Audi!" Henry said. Addison giggled.
"Yeah, that's your big sister, Henry," Addison said, kissing his temple as she held him tight.
"Henry, do you wanna say hi to everyone?" Addison asked. He just smiled back shyly as Derek and Meredith smiled back.
"Sorry you had to hang out in the hospital all day," Derek said apologetically, directing his comment toward Audrey.
"It's okay," Audrey said.
"Did you do anything today?" Meredith asked, chiming in as they all sat down at the table.
"Um…I met a lot of people. You have a lot of friends here," Audrey chuckled.
"That we do," Derek smiled.
"I see you've also met Amy," Derek said as Amelia waved at him once he acknowledged her.
"Hi to you, too, Derek," Amelia said sarcastically.
"Amy?" Audrey asked.
"Derek's the only one that calls me that anymore," Amelia replied.
"But I'll let you call me that if you want," Amelia added jokingly. Audrey smiled back.
"So, what now?" Angela asked after there was a lull in the conversation.
"I was thinking maybe we could take a trip over to Bainbridge. You know, take the ferry, see the sights a little; that kind of thing," Derek suggested. Meredith and Addison snickered; of course he'd suggest that.
"He really likes ferry boats," Meredith said after seeing Audrey give them a curious look.
"Okay. I've never been on a ferry boat before," Audrey said.
"A boat? I wanna go on the boat!" Henry said, getting excited. Jake and Addison chuckled.
"I guess we're going on a ferryboat," Angela said.
A/N: Chapter title inspired by the song, You'll Be In My Heart by Phil Collins. We were robbed of the Amelia/Lexie friendship, so hopefully, I can add more of that in the future, so this is just a taste of what's to come. And Derek deserves to feel a little jealous/hurt over seeing Jake and Addison, and Cristina said exactly why. The nickname thing was just fun and it'll come back up in a future chapter, so look forward to that! But, if you had to pick a nickname for Jake (Mc or not), what would you call him? Comment below. Again, thanks for reading and until next time!
