Chapter 21: Moments Like This

Summary: Audrey joins the cross-country team as she and her friends help Amelia move boxes out of storage and find some old pictures while rifling through some boxes in Addison's storage unit.

Once Monday came around, Audrey stayed after school, and just like she had told Derek that weekend, she joined the cross-country team. Jenna, Jace, and Sabina, however, declined her invitation to join her. When Audrey asked why not, they said something about how they ran enough in their other extracurriculars. Aside from volleyball, Jenna was on the cheerleading squad and Jace and Sabina were on the soccer team. So, this time, Audrey was on her own. But cross-country running had always been more of an independent sport for Audrey. A way to clear her mind.

"Hey, you new here?" a girl running alongside her asked.

"Um, yeah," Audrey replied.

"I'm Gia," Gia said, introducing herself.

"Audrey," Audrey replied, smiling.

"You mind if we run together?" Gia asked, looking back at her two friends right behind them.

"Sure," Audrey said.

"This is Hazel and Nick, by the way," Gia said as they continued to run, with Hazel giving her a brief wave.

"Hi," Audrey smiled.

"Nice to meet you," Nick said.

"You, too," Audrey said.

They all continued running down the trail as dust surrounded their feet. Audrey's new teammates started discussing the book they were reading in English class: The Great Gatsby. She was in Honors English, but she quickly discovered these new teammates of hers were in AP English. Since her old school didn't even have honors or AP classes, the school's dean, , thought it'd be best to put her in their standard honors English class and see how she progressed from there.

Audrey was also in the middle of reading The Great Gatsby a few weeks ago, thanks to her mom's old copy of the book. So her new friends were surprised when she jumped into the conversation, trying her hardest not to spoil anything since they were only on the second chapter of the book so far.

By the end of the run, Audrey had given them something to look forward to in the book. When Nick mentioned he had read ahead in the book as well, the two of them got into a debate about whether they thought Jay and Daisy would actually end up together or not by the end of the story.

After changing back into her street clothes, Audrey got out to the front of the school, saying goodbye to her new friends on the cross-country team, and found her mom's car waiting for her.

"Hey," Addison said after opening the window to greet her daughter.

"Hey, Mom," Audrey smiled before getting into the car.

"Hi, Audi!" Henry said as she slid in.

"Hey, Henry," Audrey said, buckling her seatbelt.

"Jake's gonna meet us at home," Addison started before pulling out of the parking lot.

"How was practice?" Addison asked from the front seat.

"Good," Audrey replied.

"You didn't push yourself too hard, did you? I know you've stayed pretty active with volleyball, but running long distance after not running for a while can be harder on your body than you think," Addison asked.

"Yeah. I think I kept a good pace, but I don't think it was that bad," Audrey replied.

Addison smiled before exiting out onto the freeway, where they were met with traffic. Rush hour traffic; something Addison had become all too familiar with over the years, but still something she, along with everyone else in L.A., hated.

"It's going be a little while before we get home," Addison said from the driver's seat. Audrey shrugged it off and leaned back, closing her eyes for a minute.

A few minutes later, while stopped in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Addison looked in the rearview mirror for a second, seeing Henry drifting off and his sister sleeping in the seat beside him. She chuckled to herself before bringing her focus back onto the road. It may have been years since she'd done any long-distance running for more than a handful of miles, but she remembered how brutal it could be when she came back to school after a summer of relaxing in the Hamptons.

While Addison had never fallen asleep in the back of the car after practice (she'd never hear the end of it from Archer if she had), she remembered passing out earlier than usual on those nights. And, even when she didn't think she'd pushed herself that hard in her first practices back, she'd always be surprised at how physically exhausted she'd felt at the end of the day. The drive home ended up taking almost a full hour compared to the normal 20-minute drive it usually took when there wasn't traffic, and after parking the car, she got Henry from the backseat and took him up to his bed before gently waking up Audrey.

"Hmm?" Audrey asked, her eyes fluttering open.

"Hey, we're home," Addison smiled, moving some hair out of Audrey's face before picking up her daughter's backpack, which was sitting beside her feet.

Audrey smiled sleepily before shifting her weight onto the car door, using it for leverage as she stood up outside in the garage. She blinked the sleep out of her eyes before feeling her mother wrap an arm around her and kiss the side of her head as she led her into the house. After getting inside, Audrey plopped down at the dining table as Addison placed her backpack beside the staircase before walking over toward Jake in the kitchen.

"Hey, how was practice?" Jake asked while standing behind the stove. Audrey looked up and shook off whatever drowsiness she still felt from her little nap. She hadn't even noticed Jake was standing there when she had walked in with her mother.

"Good," Audrey smiled before yawning sleepily.

"Here. Dinner will be ready in a minute," Addison said as she placed a full glass of water on the table. Audrey looked up and smiled at her mom before taking a good sip. After finishing her glass of water, she walked over to the couch to lie down for another few minutes before dinner was ready.

"Hey. Somebody's up," Amelia said as she came down the stairs.

"Yeah, I guess I dozed off in the car," Audrey said, sitting up and turning to see Amelia holding an awake and alert Henry.

"Oh," Audrey chuckled, thinking that her aunt was originally referring to her. Amelia smiled before letting her brother down, only for Henry to walk over to climb up on her lap.

"I guess we both took a nap today," Audrey commented, making Henry smile.

"Alright, who's hungry?" Jake asked as Amelia helped bring the plates to the table.

"Me!" Henry exclaimed, giggling before Addison picked him up off of Audrey's lap and into his high chair as Audrey followed them to the dining table.

"Eat up. It'll help keep your energy up after your run," Jake said.

"Thanks," Audrey smiled before digging in alongside everyone else.

She knew from her research that it was important to keep a healthy diet as a runner, one with lean proteins and complex carbohydrates. Clearly, Jake knew a thing or two about it, or he at least did his research, too, because dinner consisted of a healthy mix of chicken, rice, beans, and a side salad that Addison placed in the middle of the table.

"So, I can finally move into my new place this week," Amelia started.

"That's great," Addison smiled.

"Yeah. I just need to get the rest of my stuff out of storage and move it all into the new place," Amelia added before taking a bite out of her dinner.

"So, if anyone wants to help me move boxes this week…," Amelia half-joked, chuckling.

Jake, Addison, and Audrey laughed along.

"Look, I wouldn't ask if Mom hadn't sent me more stuff when she came to visit Derek in Seattle. But, apparently, she's finally getting some fixes done on the house, which is great, but it also means she's cleaning out and shipping everything she can to us," Amelia added.

"What kind of stuff did she send?" Audrey asked curiously.

"Just some old clothes, probably some old books and school projects…probably some photo albums; I don't really know, but maybe there are some old toys I can give Henry," Amelia said, getting Henry's attention.

"Thanks," Addison said sarcastically as Henry giggled excitedly. Amelia shrugged and smiled as Jake and Audrey chuckled along.

"So, any takers?" Amelia asked.

"When are you planning on heading out there?" Jake asked, referring to the storage unit facility.

"I can start moving my things in on Thursday, so I was going to take a half day on Friday to tackle all the storage stuff," Amelia said.

"I can probably come out after…two," Jake offered after thinking about his appointments on Friday.

"We can probably come out after I get Audrey after volleyball practice," Addison said.

"That is if you're okay with that," Addison added quickly, realizing she'd just offered up her daughter as manual labor for her sister-in-law's move.

"Yeah. I don't have any plans yet, so sure," Audrey replied.

"That's the spirit," Amelia joked.

By Thursday, Amelia grabbed her things from the house to her new apartment, along with a blow-up mattress. The moving truck would come tomorrow for her to pack everything else, including furniture like her bedframe and mattress, her couch, tables, chairs, and anything else she took with her from her old apartment or her and James' place. On Friday, Jake left a little earlier to help Amelia move some furniture into the moving pod before Addison went with Henry to pick Audrey up from school.

"It's Audi, Mommy!" Henry exclaimed when he saw his older sister from afar.

"Yeah, that is Audrey," Addison chuckled.

When Addison saw Audrey walking out alongside her friends, she felt guilty about taking her daughter away from them to help Amelia move.

"Hey, Dr. Montgomery," Jace said, waving at Addison from inside the car.

"Hey, guys," Addison said.

"Hi, Audi!" Henry said from the backseat. Audrey and her friends waved back at the little boy.

"How was practice?" Addison asked.

"Good," Audrey said as she and her friends awkwardly stood around, still outside the car.

"Do you want me to call Amelia and tell her we're not coming, then?" Addison asked, figuring the kids would've much rather go home and play in the backyard.

"No, we can help," Jenna insisted.

"Would it be okay if they came with us?" Audrey finally asked.

"You guys want to help Amelia move?" Addison asked, surprised. The kids shrugged.

"Audrey said there might be some old photo albums in storage. We thought maybe we could find some old pictures of her," Sabina replied. So that's why the kids were offering to help Amelia move.

"Yeah. I mean, if Amelia doesn't have them, I definitely do. I have a storage unit around there, too, if you guys want to take a look," Addison replied.

"Yeah, that'd be great," Audrey said, relieved before she and her friends piled into the car.

Since Henry was with them, the girls squeezed in the back while Audrey sat in the passenger seat beside Addison. Normally, Addison would've tried to figure something else out; the number of traffic accidents she'd seen come through the ER where there were too many people in the car, or worse when people didn't wear seatbelts, usually would've deterred her from this entire situation. But, luckily, the storage unit facility was a quick drive, and she knew some or even all of them could ride in Jake's car later when it was time to go home.

Audrey didn't know why she had been so nervous to ask her mom about ruffling through the boxes in the storage. Part of her had this small hope of remembering something by seeing the pictures, even if she hadn't remembered anything thus far when she'd looked through Addison's old photo album back home. But it didn't stop her from wanting to try.

In the car ride, Jenna brought up something about how she and Sabina had just gotten their homecoming dress over the weekend. Addison glanced over, wondering if Audrey was going to go with them, and she just shrugged back. Audrey hadn't really thought about it, and she didn't have dates like how Jenna had Jace and Sabina had her chemistry class lab partner. Addison hadn't really been all that into dancing either at her age, but Bizzy had always pushed her to go and find a suitable date. She didn't want to push Audrey the way her mother had, but even Addison knew she eventually had fun at those dances when she was younger. Even though she almost always resisted them at first.

After parking the car at the storage unit facility, the kids piled out of the car as Sabina helped unstrap Henry from his car seat and helped him down. With most of the furniture already loaded into the moving pod, the boxes were all that were left. Addison sighed, relieved. There wasn't too much left to load, so they could probably finish up in an hour, grab takeout for dinner, and go home to let the kids have some downtime before the sun set.

"I see you brought the calvary," Amelia joked as everyone waved back.

"We heard you might have some old photo albums," Jace said.

"Any chance you have any with Audrey?" Sabina asked.

"Yeah. She was probably such a cute baby," Jenna commented.

"Well, you're right about that," Amelia commented.

"She was a very cute baby," Addison concurred, making Audrey blush.

"I found a few in the back, but I don't know what's in them yet if you guys want to take a look," Amelia offered before carrying a box to the moving pod.

Audrey and her friends looked at each other before walking into the storage unit and looking through boxes to see where the photo albums were.

"Found them!" Jace said, holding one up in the air after pulling it out of the box.

Jake and Addison chuckled, keeping an eye on Henry before they each took a box out to the moving pod. Henry stayed close to his sister and Jenna, who encouraged him to help look in the boxes with her. With a younger sister at home, including the toddler in their activities came easy to her, and Jake, Addison, and Amelia definitely took notice.

"Oh, there's one!" Sabina pointed out as they flipped through photos of a baby Amelia.

"Wait, is that your dad?" Jace asked once they got to one that wasn't just Amelia with her parents.

"Yeah. I think so," Audrey replied as Addison and Amelia walked over.

"Oh yeah. That's Derek," Amelia chuckled.

It was an old photo of Derek and Amelia on the playground. Amelia was a toddler, smiling big and hard for the camera as Derek, standing steps above her on the playground stairs smiling, excited to get to the top of the slide. His hair curled inward at the ends, giving it more volume, as he almost had a bowl-cut look to it while his ears stuck out. It was before his hair got much curlier as a teenager and before his natural curls started to tame down as he got older.

"Here, why don't you sit on my lap so you can see better?" Jenna offered, pulling over a stool before helping Henry up on her lap. Jake and Addison smiled before helping Amelia move a heavier couch that Jake and Amelia couldn't move on their own earlier.

"Look, Henry, that's me!" Amelia pointed out when they walked back and looked at the photo again.

"That's Auntie?" Henry asked.

"Yeah! That's me when I was a little bigger than you," Amelia said, making Henry smile.

The kids flipped through the book, seeing more of the Shepherd family, and they eventually saw Mark appearing in more and more photos. After finishing that album, they moved on to another as they saw the Shepherd children and Mark grow as they continued. It wasn't until two albums later that they finally saw Addison in a family Christmas photo alongside Derek as they stood in front of the Christmas tree.

"Hey, there's your mom!" Jenna exclaimed.

"Mommy!" Henry exclaimed.

"Wow, you guys look so…," Audrey started.

"Young?" Addison chuckled as she, Jake, and Amelia got a closer look. Audrey giggled; she was going to say happy, but yes, her parents definitely looked much younger.

"I would've said pretty," Jake teased before Addison blushed, letting Jake kiss her cheek.

"Yeah, you guys look great, Dr. Montgomery," Jace said.

"Thanks," Addison chuckled as Jake kept an arm around her waist.

"Your parents are adorable," Jenna whispered, referring to Jake and Addison. Audrey blushed and nodded.

"I think this was your first Christmas with us," Amelia commented before turning the page to see a photo of Amelia and Addison crouched down near the tree with a wrapped present in Amelia's hand.

"No, that was the second time. I was wearing the black sweater the first time I spent Christmas with you guys," Addison said upon checking the photo.

"Oh. Right," Amelia replied.

"Fun fact: I still have that," Amelia said after Audrey had turned the page to pictures that periodically showed Amelia opening the present and getting excited over a unicorn plush toy inside the box.

"Really?" Addison asked, touched.

"Of course! Dory's around here somewhere in one of the boxes," Amelia said.

"Dory? Like from Finding Nemo?" Jenna asked. It was her sister Gracie's favorite movie. It was a little before her time, but it was one of Jenna's kid-friendly movies, so she played it for her a few years ago. But it was way too new for it to be something Amelia watched as a kid.

"I like Nemo!" Henry interjected. They all chuckled. Much like how Jenna showed Gracie the movie, Angela had done the same with Henry.

"No, Dory as in dorsal. We were studying for our neuroanatomy exam, and it was all Derek could think about when she asked what she should name her unicorn," Addison replied, chuckling.

"And that is why your mother named you, and why Meredith named William," Amelia joked, making everyone laugh.

"I think that was also the night your dad and I talked about having kids someday for the first time," Addison revealed.

"Really?" Audrey asked.

"Yeah. We'd been together for a little over a year by then, and I was running around looking for what I should get everyone for Christmas while he was cramming for his neuroanatomy exam. And then Derek said something about how good I was with kids after seeing me with Amelia that day and we just…kept talking about kids from there," Addison replied.

Audrey smiled at the thought of her parents in their early 20s talking about their future together before everyone went back to flipping through the rest of the book and continuing until reaching the end of the album. Eventually, they found a photo of Amelia, a few years older this time, holding a newborn Audrey on her lap while sitting in an armchair in the hospital room. There wasn't much of Audrey in the rest of the photos, but there were a few where Audrey's friends could coo over how cute she was as a baby.

"I have a bunch in my old storage unit if you guys want to keep looking," Addison offered.

"Can we?" Audrey asked.

"Yeah. Come on," Addison gestured for them to follow her.

Henry walked alongside Audrey and her friends, holding her sister's hand as they walked two rows over to a storage unit before seeing Addison unlock the door with a key from her purse. After opening the door, they saw stacks of boxes all around. Addison let them enter and look around while she kept Henry entertained.

"Hey, what's this?" Sabina asked, pulling something out of a box. Addison laughed.

"That is my old leaf choker; for when I dressed up as Poison Ivy for Halloween," Addison replied.

"You were Poison Ivy?" Audrey asked, excitement clear in her voice. As a comic book fan, she loved the idea of her mother dressing up as Poison Ivy of all characters for Halloween.

"I was. It was Mark's idea, unsurprisingly, and your dad wanted to be Batman because he had to be Robin last time. Last time being when he and Mark were teenagers," Addison replied.

"Do you have a picture?" Jenna asked.

"Yeah. Somewhere…," Addison said, starting to look around.

Thankfully, while there were stacks of boxes, they were all labeled. After moving the first few boxes out of the way, she found one labeled Photo Albums and pulled it out farther for the kids to rifle through. They all grabbed an album and started flipping through them, with Addison doing the same with Henry's help. He found it amusing seeing his mom as a teenager, and Audrey joined the two of them instead of grabbing a separate album to look through, like the rest of her friends.

"Hey, were you guys the three musketeers?" Sabina asked after a few minutes.

"Yeah. That was Mark's idea," Addison laughed as they walked over for a closer look.

"Of course it was," Amelia muttered, chuckling.

"What else did you guys dress as?" Sabina asked, curious.

"Um…Ariel and Prince Eric, Danny and Sandy from Grease. Oh! There was one year when I got your dad to dress up as Ken so I could be Barbie," Addison replied, laughing.

"Oh, we have to find that one," Sabina said as everyone laughed along.

"You know, I've never seen Grease," Jenna commented.

"Me neither," Audrey replied.

"Oh, it was already pretty old at the time, but we made it a whole thing; our friends, Weiss and Savvy went as Doody and Frenchy, and Mark and…Valerie, his girlfriend at the time, went as Kenickie and Rizzo," Addison said.

~ 20 years earlier ~

"Wow," Derek commented when Addison opened the door in her Sandy costume: leather pants, a black off-the-shoulder shirt, and a pair of red heels. She'd decided against finding a cheap blonde wig and went with her natural red hair but curled it before tying half of it up to help add some volume to her hair.

"Tell me about it, stud," Addison smirked, leaning against the doorframe.

Derek smiled wider, chuckling. He felt like the stereotypical nerd getting to go to the dance with the most popular girl in school, but he and Addison had been together for almost a year now, and they had just made plans to see her parents for Thanksgiving and his family for Christmas. Never had it felt more obvious that his girlfriend was out of his league than it did right now.

"You look amazing," Derek commented.

"Thanks. You don't look so bad yourself, stud," Addison said, opening her door wider to let him in while she grabbed her leather jacket from the closet.

Derek was in a simple white t-shirt, black pants, black belt, leather jacket, and a classic pair of Converse. His hair wasn't quite as high as John Travolta's and it was curlier than he would've liked, but there was no doubt that he was Danny Zuko for Halloween. Derek just couldn't believe that his girlfriend was Addison Forbes Montgomery.

"I think I like this look on you," Addison smiled after gently pulling her hair out from under the leather jacket.

"Yeah?" Derek asked teasingly as Addison wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Yeah," Addison confirmed before kissing him.

"Hey, is she ready?" Mark asked from outside in the hallway before getting to the doorframe as Derek and Addison pulled away from each other.

"Yeah, I'm ready," Addison chuckled, unwrapping herself from her boyfriend.

"Damn, Red," Mark whistled lowly, admiring her costume. Addison smiled, flattered.

"Where's Val?" Derek asked, snickering.

"Waiting for us with Weiss and Savvy," Mark replied, brushing it off.

"Okay, let's go then," Addison said, rolling her eyes as Mark stared at her walking toward him, passing him out the door.

"Oh, I love it when you talk dirty!" Mark joked, referencing a line from the movie before he and Derek followed her and closed the door on the way out.

~ present day ~

"Maybe we can watch the movie sometime," Jenna suggested.

"Yeah," Audrey said, looking at her mom smiling back at her.

"I like the three musketeers thing. If only there were only three of us," Sabina commented.

"We could be the four musketeers," Jenna suggested. The kids looked back at her and thought about it for a minute before making it clear they weren't interested in the idea. It didn't take long before they all went back to looking through the other photo albums.

"Hey! I think I found it!" Jace said a few minutes later.

"Wow," Audrey commented as they all walked over.

Not only were Derek and Addison dressed as Batman and Poison Ivy, but even Mark wore a Joker costume that year. Derek's costume was clearly inspired by the Michael Keaton version of Batman with the padded muscles, yellow belt, black and yellow logo on the chest, and all-black attire, including the cape. Addison's hair wasn't quite as vibrantly red as Poison Ivy was in the comics, but she still looked stunning in a short green bodice dress, fake ivy intertwined with lace hanging from her waist, fishnet stockings, and the leaf choker around her neck.

And then there was Mark, wearing a very colorful costume as The Joker beside a mystery woman dressed up as Harley Quinn. He wore a purple top hat, a purple blazer, an orange dress shirt, and a green bow tie. Mark had even gotten his hair colored green for the costume (which was easily washable at the end of the night, thankfully). And thank god he'd taken Addison's advice not to get his face painted white.

"Hey, maybe we could be The Joker and Harley Quinn," Jace suggested.

"Ooh, I like it," Jenna said enthusiastically.

"What about us?" Sabina asked.

"I could be Poison Ivy," Audrey said.

Sabina looked at her friends, comically putting her arms out as if saying, what about me?

"Mmm…what about Catwoman?" Audrey suggested.

"I am not just gonna slap some cat ears and draw some whiskers on my face and wear a little black dress; if I'm gonna be Catwoman, I want the mask and the whole leather…thing," Sabina replied.

"You would look great in a leather bodysuit," Jenna commented.

"I would, wouldn't I?" Sabina smirked playfully.

"Hey, there you guys are," Jake said as he and Amelia walked in.

"Daddy!" Henry exclaimed before Addison smiled and let him down so he could run over to Jake.

"So, you guys find anything?" Amelia asked.

"Yeah, some of Dr. Montgomery's old costumes," Jace replied.

"Really?" Jake asked playfully, looking over at Addison and making her giggle.

"Well, there's some space in the car if you want to take some home. What do you say we grab something for dinner?" Jake suggested.

"Sounds good to me," Sabina replied before they each grabbed a box labeled Photo Albums and walked back to the car, which was right outside the storage unit.

Jake had driven his car over, assuming they might take some stuff home. Aside from just the boxes, Addison grabbed her old leaf choker and the ivy-intertwined lace piece for Audrey; she could get the rest of her Poison Ivy costume elsewhere, but this would make it easier to put together the rest of the ensemble.

After packing the boxes, they decided the kids would ride in Jake's car while Addison took Henry and they'd all meet for pizza nearby. Amelia would then meet everyone there after the moving guy showed up to move the pod to her new apartment. At the pizza place, the kids talked animatedly about what they'd need for their costumes before everyone went back to the house to get a game of volleyball in. Later in the evening, Brooke and Lesley-Ann came to pick up the kids and Audrey started looking at costumes online.

"You know, you don't have to be Poison Ivy just because I was," Addison said while standing behind Audrey, sitting at the family computer.

"I know; I want to. Do you know anything about wigs? My hair's not exactly red like yours," Audrey asked, her blue eyes looking up at her mother's. Addison smiled.

"No, I don't, but I'm sure I can ask my hairdresser if you think that'll help," Addison replied. Audrey smiled and nodded before turning back around to the screen.

That weekend, not only did Audrey keep searching online for parts for her Halloween costume, but Jake and Addison took her and Henry out to see if they could find something at the costume stores. Plus, it let them look for Audrey's Belle costume and Henry's lion costume, too. While looking around, Jake found a DVD copy of The Addams Family and bought it for everyone to watch, especially after Audrey said she'd never seen it before. Knowing that it had been one of Lily's favorite Halloween movies, Jake invited Angela to watch it after dinner that night. And Addison invited Amelia over when she had called about an awkward encounter with James at St. Ambrose earlier that day.

"You know, you could pull off a good Morticia, Addie," Angela commented while watching the movie. Addison chuckled.

"Yeah, I could see that. You've got the cheekbones for it," Amelia agreed.

"You guys should dress up for Halloween! You could be Morticia and Jake could be Gomez," Audrey said.

"No, I haven't dressed up for Halloween in years," Addison replied.

"It could be fun," Jake said playfully.

"Oh, you, too, now?" Addison laughed.

"I think the last time I dressed up for Halloween, Lily and I were pirates and Angela was Tinkerbell," Jake said.

"Wait, your mom was a pirate, too?" Audrey asked. She would've thought a Peter Pan group costume would've included Wendy or Peter Pan, at least.

"Yeah. She didn't want to be Wendy," Angela replied, laughing.

"Hey, Henry, what do you think of Mommy being her?" Amelia asked, pointing at Morticia on the TV screen.

"Yeah!" Henry agreed easily, giggling. Addison gave her a look.

"Hey, it could be fun. I could grow my mustache out," Jake joked, making Addison giggle.

"Didn't you say he had a mustache when you met him?" Amelia asked, playfully.

"Really?" Audrey asked, chuckling.

"Yes, he did," Addison chuckled.

"So, what do you say?" Jake asked.

"Fine. But what about you two? If I have to dress up, I think you guys should, too," Addison asked, referring to Amelia and Angela.

"I didn't agree to anything," Amelia tried playfully.

"I'm gonna be Gretchen from Mean Girls with Emma and Daphne," Angela said.

"Solid choice," Amelia commented.

"Oh, no; you're not off the hook. I'll dress up if you do," Addison said.

"Fine. What if I stick a thing of devil horns on my head and call it a day?" Amelia asked.

"At least put on something red," Angela replied.

"Fine. I'll put some red outfit together to go with it," Amelia gave in.

"I'll take it," Addison chuckled.

"Our pictures this year will be…interesting," Addison commented jokingly. Just thinking about Gomez, Morticia, Poison Ivy, the devil, and Simba all together in a photo was comical, but if it would make her daughter happy, she'd do it.

When Audrey returned to school on Monday, she had most of her Poison Ivy costume ready, minus the wig and shoes. She wasn't sure if she wanted to go with a pair of longer boots or a pair of green heels. Thankfully, she'd gotten everything for her Belle costume for when she went to Seattle to visit her dad, but while lost in thought in the locker rooms before cross-country practice, she felt a tap on the shoulder.

"Hey," Nick greeted her.

"Hey," Audrey smiled.

"So, you going to Homecoming this weekend?" Nick asked.

"Uh…no. My friends invited me, but it just feels weird to go when they all have a date and I don't, you know?" Audrey laughed it off while changing her shoes from her sneakers to her running shoes.

"Well, what if you did have a date?" Nick asked.

"I mean, I guess I'd go then," Audrey replied easily.

"So, if I asked you to the dance, would you say yes?" Nick asked. Audrey practically froze before looking up at the cute boy smiling back at her.

"Are you actually asking or are you just trying to be funny?" Audrey asked, trying to sound more confident than she felt. She barely knew the guy, but he was cute and had been nice so far. This was only their third time talking; or fourth, if you counted when he came up to her in the hallway on the way to lunch to say hi.

"I'm asking. Audrey, will you go to Homecoming with me?" Nick asked, chuckling. Clearly, her attempts to act brave worked as he found her response charming.

"Sure. I'll go to the dance with you," Audrey smiled, pretending to be much more relaxed than she felt.

A/N: Chapter title inspired by the song, Moments Like This by The Afters. References include a few lines from the movie, Grease from that little flashback from Derek, Addison, and Mark in med school. It feels so weird to be writing about Halloween when it's springtime IRL, but it is always fun to think up costumes. And there will be more Halloween festivities coming up in future chapters so look out for that! Not to mention, Audrey's going to Homecoming! Audrey's gone through so much over the last few months, I wanted to give her a chance to have some time to live like a normal teenager, and that includes going to the school dance. Hope you guys liked this chapter! Until next time :D
