One week later Izuku and I were eating dinner at the kitchen table when Mrs. Midoriya came in with two letters saying that our results came in. I can feel Izuku's heart beat faster as he took his letter from Ms. Midoriya and left for his room.
I took my letter then Ms. Midoriya went and paced around the area outside of Izuku's room. I simply opened my envelope and I found a disk shaped thing and placed it on the table and it projected a projection of All Might.
"Hello there Akumi Midoriya you are looking at the newest faculty member of UA." This surprised me since it was the All Might addressing me of all people. But then I realize that he must have done this with the other new students.
"That's right I'm All Might. Now to get to whither you passed or not, you must be dying to know. If you kept count of the robots you destroyed you may already know what the outcome will be," there was a slight pause in his sentence. I assume that was so I could think about what he said. "You only accumulated seventeen points not nearly enough to pass," another pause and this time I felt despair for that brief moment. "That was only if we graded you on how many robots you destroyed."
And yet another pause this time I'm getting my hopes up as I clasped my hands together, "Remember when you were fighting the zero point robot." A smaller pause before continuing, "There were two things UA was grading. How many villains you took down and how heroic you acted. Some of the staff members saw the way you were trying to divert the zero point robot's attention elsewhere that, enough, would have earned you hero points. But not only did you sacrifice your time and possible chance of getting into UA, you also managed to defeat it."
Again another pause in his sentences putting me on suspense, "You may be wondering what I'm trying to get at. Well I'm going to tell you now. You Got A Whopping! Sixty hero points, tieing you for first place with a total of seventy seven points." The suspense I felt disappeared and I breathe a sigh relief as there was another pause in his sentence, "I would like to congratulate you for being accepted to UA High. I imagine about now someone you know should be receiving a similar letter. I will be expecting you and your brother soon."
The projection stopped and I sat there in awe. Next I hear a scream of joy from Izuku's room as I realized I was going to UA High. I have enough self control not to yell out in joy with Izuku but I was very happy. All that I had to do now was wait.
I hear Izuku bust open his door and come running into the kitchen screaming, "Akumi, I… No, We Did It! We Made It To UA!" I got up from my chair and put Izuku in a bear hug.
"Yeah I Know! I'm So Excited!" I now yell back since I can't contain my excitement any longer.
"I know we are both excited but can you let me go first," Izuku coughed as I can hear him gasp for air.
I let go of him "Sorry about that. I don't know what came over me," I laughed it off.
"I can't believe it. Me and you, together, at UA," said a smiling Izuku.
"Well believe it," I put my hand on his shoulder.
I noticed Mrs. Midoriya walked in on us with tears in her eyes and gave us both a hug, "Oh, Izuku, Akumi I'm so happy for you two." Izuku and I looked at each other and smiled as we hugged her back.
Today is our first day of UA High. Izuku and I are in uniform and about to leave as Mrs. Midoriya is in tears bidding us farewell. We walked together towards UA. "So what class are you in," Izuku asked.
"I'm in class 1A. What class are you in?" I replied.
"Really, I'm also in class 1A. Looks like we're going to be in the same class this time," Izuku said.
After getting off the subway station we eventually entered the UA school building and before we entered our classroom I could hear Izuku mutter to himself about who he wants and doesn't want to be in his class. I chop him in the head lightly, "Now is not the time to be worrying about that." He covered his mouth and I smiled at him, "Just go in with a smile. I'm sure everything will be fine," I turn and open the door.
"Remove Your Foot From That Desk! Such An Action Is Insulting To Those Who Came To UA Before Us As Well As The Craftsmen Who Made The Desk!" The boy with glasses that called us out at the UA entrance exam yelled to Katsuki.
"Like I care. What middle school are you from, you EXTRA," Katsuki asked the boy with glasses not putting his foot down.
"I'm from Somei Private Academy. My name is Tenya Ida."
Looking around more, not focusing on Katsuki's argument, something stung in my brain and made me recognize everyone in the room. My vision went blurry for a moment with this new revelation. When I focused back I didn't even notice that I was already inside the classroom and Ida was now standing in front of Izuku and I.
"Midoriyas. You both perceived the true nature of that practical exam. While I did not. I misjudged you two. I hate to admit it, but you two were the superior candidate," Ida said.
"Ah! That curly hair," I hear Ochako Uraraka from behind us, "The plain-looking boy. You got in. Just like Present Mic said. Make sense though. That punch was awesome." She makes air punches.
"No! I mean…! I have to thank you for speaking on my behalf… I.. Well.." Izuku is covering his eyes as he turns red.
"So we've got our entrance ceremony and guidance sessions today, yeah? Wonder what our teacher will be like? Boy I'm nervous," Uraraka sighs, stopping her punches as the bell rang.
"If you're here to socialize, then get out," I recognize this voice as an Eraser Head and he was in a sleeping bag on the ground, "This is," he takes out some sort of drink thing and sucks it empty, "The hero course." He gets up and out of his sleeping bag, "It took nine seconds for you to quiet down. Time is a precious resource you lot aren't very rational are you?" Aizawa looks at me for a moment then looks away, "I'm your homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa. Pleased to meet you," he rummages in his sleeping bag and takes out our gym clothes, "Quickly now. Change into your gym uniforms and head out to the grounds."
It doesn't look like anyone objects to it as Izuku and I part ways to go change into the gym uniform. We met back up again at the place Aizawa told us to go to. Uraraka asked Aizawa what we were doing here. Aizawa said we were there to test our quirks. "What about the entrance ceremony?! Or guidance sessions?!" Uraraka exclaimed.
"No time to waste on that stuff if you want to become heroes," said Aizawa. He goes on to explain what we were doing and that the department of education prohibiting quirks to our records is not rational and just pure procrastination. Then he asked Katsuki how far he could throw a ball.
"Sixty seven meters," Katsuki said.
"Great. Now try it with your quirk. Do whatever you need to. Just don't leave the circle. Give it all you've got."
Katsuki was now in the circle with a ball that Aizawa threw at him. "Awesome," after stretching a little he threw the ball with a boom of his explosion quirk yelling die as he threw it.
"It's important for us to know our limits. That's the first rational step to figuring out what kind of heroes you'll be." Everyone was excited about using their quirks in this test but I was still trying to wrap my head around the information that I was getting. My head was not completely in the game this time around and it seems like Izuku noticed as he asked me if I was ok and I replied that I was. "... Awesome… You say? You're hoping to become heroes after three years here… And you think it'll be all fun and games? Right. The one with the lowest score across all eight events will be judged hopeless… and will be expelled." Aizawa brushed his hair in front of his face, revealing his maniacal smile with red glowing eyes.
Putting his hands back down, Uraraka objects saying that that was unreasonable but Aizawa responded with "Natural disasters, massive accidents, ego-mad villains. All kinds of calamities can happen when we least expect them. And it's our job as heroes to reverse it all, and restore reason. If you were counting on friendly chat at the local fast food after school, that's too bad. From now on, for the next three years all you can expect from your life at UA is one hardship after the next.
Some of us looked confident while some others were nervous. I feel fine since I knew that All I had to do was not get last place because everyone would get to stay if Izuku got last place. How did I know that, my mind is still trying to process this and this situation is not helping. Before I knew it, it was my turn for the fifty-meter sprint. I was up against Izuku and Katsuki and we lined up at the starting line. As the signal to start sounded I activated my quirk but it didn't activate making me trip and fall. I got back up as fast as I could and decided to just run the 50 meters without it coming in at ten point thirty four seconds.
"Akumi are you sure you're ok. Why didn't you use your quirk?" Izuku asked in concern.
"Yeah I'm… f-fine," I look at my hand trying to absorb air but it doesn't work. I look at Aizawa but he's not using his quirk to stop mine. So there must be something wrong with my quirk that I didn't notice since I was too worried about whether or not I would get into UA. Just great, not only do I get this uneasy feeling about what is going to happen next, I might fail and get expelled if I can't use my quirk.
I guess Katsuki also noticed that I didn't use my quirk as he says "Are you not taking me seriously. Why did you pretend to trip at the start of the race and why didn't you use your quirk?"
"I don't know myself. And I didn't pretend to trip. I actually tripped and it hurts, just so you know."
"Yeah right. Go ahead and keep on not using your quirk. That leaves me one less inferior student to deal with," Katsuki said as he walks away.
"Enough chit chatting on to the next event," Aizawa said.
The next event grip strength. I had an idea on how to do this with air but of course it would not work correctly as the air does get absorbed from my hand but air shoots out from my arm getting a grip strength score of 50. Third event standing long jump the event I should have no problem in since I can basically fly and I thought my quirk was working as I began to float normally but as soon as I tried to move forward my moment stopped and I crash landed to the ground falling face first.
Izuku came and lent me a hand getting up. I could see this sad frown on his face as he whispers to me "Hey Akumi. If you're doing this so that I don't get expelled please stop. I don't want you being expelled because of me."
"It's not like I wanted to be expelled. I'm trying my best here. Take it up with my quirk not wanting to work with me," I say back to him as we go one to the next event. Sideways jumps nothing too bad happens in this one since I decided not to use my quirk on this one since I don't want to overly fail this. Not the best score but not dead last in this one.
The final event, throwing a ball. I don't even know if getting a good score on this matter since even if I get a good score with my past two earlier scores would it even matter. I doubt myself even more but shake this feeling out of me as I was the first to throw the ball. I calmed myself and tried again using my quirk with all my might, doing what Izuku would have done and focused all my attention on my throwing arm. When I thought I threw the ball I still felt it in my hand and when I looked at my hand the ball was still there. I wasn't holding on to it, but like it was glued to my hand.
I tried shaking it off but it doesn't work so I look towards Aizawa and he looks back at me and activates his quirk, erasing my quirk for a moment making the ball fall off my hand right outside of the circle. A beep came from a screen he held out and on it, it showed zero meters. I felt dreadful but I assume that this was just the way the story was going to write me out of the main plot.
Izuku interrupts saying "Wait no, that can't."
"Izuku Stop!" I yell at Izuku before he goes any further, "It's fine. Like Aizawa said anything can happen. If this happens when I'm doing hero work who knows what will happen," I said a bit dejected.
"But Akumi you."
I'm walking over to Izuku, "Just stop. I did my best with what I c..." I coughed before I could finish my sentence. Then I coughed again this time with blood coming out surprising me along with everyone else I could see within my sight. I fell on to the ground gasping for air as my body was heating up. I couldn't hear anything, my vision going blurry, I felt the same pain I felt from the time with the zero point robot. Then a small shock in my head made me go unconscious.
(Third Person)
Everyone is in shock to see Akumi who was perfectly fine from their perspective fall to the ground after coughing up blood. The group panics as Izuku and Aizawa were the first two to rush to Akumi's aid. When Izuku came into contact with the unconscious Akumi he noticed she was heating up fast. These symptoms are similar to what Akari said when Akumi first felt like her quirk was acting up Izuku thought.
Akari mentioned before that when Akumi was like this, one day she eventually fixed herself, thought Izuku. If that was the case then Recovery Girl's quirk to boost the natural healing factor of someone would help. "Mr. Aizawa. We need to get her to Recovery Girl quickly," Izuku exclaimed.
Aizawa felt Akumi's forehead and it was hot, "Do you know what happened to her?"
"I don't know everything but when she is like this she is currently using her quirk subconscious healing herself from the inside I think. That's why she wasn't able to use her quirk to the fullest." Izuku looks down at Akumi with tears in his eyes "Damn it I should have known since she said her quirk is acting weird."
"This is not the time to cry to yourself. Katsuki, come here and take Akumi here to the nurses office," said Aizawa signaling at Katsuki.
"Huh. Why should I," Katsuki uneasily said.
"Because you already did the ball throw. Now hurry up," Aizawa said as he takes out a pass to the nurse's office. Katsuki hesitantly agrees as he rushes over to Akumi putting her on his back taking the pass and leaving to the nurse's office.
Izuku wants to go with Katsuki but Aizawa stops him, "Where do you think you're going? You still have to do the test or do you want to get expelled." Izuku reluctantly agreed and decided not to follow and groups back with the others.
"Excuse me Midoriya, but it seems like you knew what happened to Akari. May I ask as to inquire about what happened to her," said a worried Ida.
"I don't know much myself, but what I do know is that she couldn't use her quirk properly in the tests because it was being used subconsciously to heal an internal injury," Izuku said clenching his fist.
"I'm sure she would be fine," said Uraraka trying to reassure Izuku and herself.
Izuku slaps himself in the face "Yeah, of course she will. She always says she will be fine and there was never a time she was completely wrong."
"Now don't get distracted with just one student going down. That is just how this hero business is. Asui, you're up next," said Aizawa looking at the group.
Scene Change
"Damn you and your stupid quirk. Why couldn't you just admit that you were hurt," Katsuki grunted as he rushed towards the nurse's office. He arrives at the nurses office opening the door and approaching Recovery Girl.
"Oh my, what happened to her," asked Recovery Girl, seeing Akumi unconscious.
"Who knows, but where do I put her," said Katsuki, annoyed but Recovery Girl can tell he was worried.
"Put her on the bed and I'll see what I can do," says Recovery Girl. Katsuki lays Akumi on the bed as her condition seems to get worse with her heavy breathing. Recovery Girl checked Akumi's pulse, temperature, and looked for any external injury.
Pulse rate increasing, temperature increasing, and no external injury. A bit pale and erratic breathing. Recovery Girl sees that Katsuki was still there, "Hmm. Don't you have class to attend to." Katuki looks at her, grunts and leaves the room, "Ok he's gone, Shimizu-Chan you can come out now."
"Thank you Recovery Girl," Akari moves the curtains away revealing her in a UA uniform, "Wait this is. Akumi."
"Oh. So you know this girl," Recovery Girl asked. Akari doesn't answer as she activates her quirk and can see Akumi's color shifted out of her actual body slowly trying to go back to her body.
"Why is her color out of her body," Akari thought out loud. "What made it be like that," Akari touched the color but there was nothing there.
From Recovery Girl's perspective it looks like Akari just touched the air. Akari remembered, it was Akumi that would do this to herself but her quirk would try to fix Akumi without her knowing. "Recovery Girl. I think if you use your quirk on her it will speed up her quirk in recovering herself."
"Are you sure it would work," Recovery Girl said with concern. Akari tells Recovery Girl that it was ok to do it. With the confirmation, Recovery Girl uses her quirk, kissing Akumi on the forehead.
(Back To First Person)
I awake and look around and see Recovery Girl sitting with Izuku talking and I sit up. Izuku saw me awake and got up and hugged me saying "Akumi you're awake." I wince in pain and he lets go of me, "Oh. I'm so sorry. You must still be recovering."
"What happened to me. It felt like I was hit by a truck," I rubbed my head.
"What a coincidence. You both injured yourself during your first day at UA. Now isn't that funny," Recovery Girl jokes. I look to Recovery Girl and give a smile the best I can. "You asked what happened to you right. Well you see, it seems like you did something with your quirk that messed up your body. But luckily your quirk seems to put you back together."
"I see. Will I be ok," I asked.
"I think by tomorrow you should be completely healed because of your quirk. If not, come here as soon as possible," Recovery Girl said with urgency.
"Yes mam," I tried getting off the bed but fell but Izuku caught me as it felt like my legs were being skewered through with something sharp.
"I think this time you hurt yourself more than the last time that this happened," he puts me back on the bed.
"Great. Don't you still have class to go to," I sighed. "Wait. What was the result of the event? Did I. Um. Get expelled?"
"No. Not at all. Aizawa said that this time you were exempt from being expelled. In fact the whole expelling bit was just to make sure we pushed ourselves to the fullest, is what he said."
"I don't think he said that just to make us push ourselves. I believe he had every intention to expel anyone who had gotten last place. We both got last place didn't we."
"Well of course but that's only because I just recently awakened my quirk and you weren't at your best," Izuku said waving his arms around.
"Well If we didn't get expelled and you didn't get expelled. We still have class to go to and since I can't stand on my own you will have to carry me."
"But shouldn't you rest up a bit more," Izuku said with concern in his eyes.
"I agree, you shouldn't have to push yourself so much if you're hurt enough that you can't walk. It's only your first day," Recovery Girl added.
"I should be fine as long as I don't move too much. And besides I can't be missing out on anything if I want to graduate from this hero school. Wouldn't you agree, Izuku."
"Yeah but..."
"Then it's decided. hurry up we need to go," Izuku reluctantly got me on his back. We bid farewell to Recovery Girl and she sighs as we leave for our class.
We made it back to our class and everyone looked at us. I wave hello to everyone then Aizawa says, "Ok, now that everyone is here I can go over what your schedule will be like." Izuku sat me down at my desk and went to sit at his as Aizawa was explaining our schedule.
After class was over Izuku carried me on his back. Walking out of the front gate we hear Ida "Excuse me Midoriya but how's your finger?"
Izuku jerked back a little pressing a little too hard on my leg making me wince in pain "Ah. Akumi. I'm so sorry."
"Be more careful next time. I'm injured here," I take a breath trying to ease the pain.
"No. I should be apologizing. I didn't realize how injured you really were," said Ida.
"It's alright this time but again, be more careful next time," I point at Ida.
"You three. Heading towards the station? Wait up I'm coming to," I hear Uraraka shout and Izuku turns to look her way.
"Ah, infinity girl," Ida says.
"I'm Ochako Uraraka. Um, you're Tenya Ida and you two must be the Midoriyas. Akumi and… Deku right."
I laugh, "You hear that Deku. She called you Deku. Oh man that's funny."
Izuku looks at me and I could tell he is embarrassed. "Hmm. Oh was that not your name. Sorry, it's just during the test, that Bakugo guy said Deku."
I calm my laughter as Izuku fixes the misunderstanding "Um… my name is Izuku… Deku is just Kacchan's way to demoralize me."
"A derogatory pet name then?" Ida added.
"Oh. Gotcha. Sorry. But you know, Deku kinda screams, do your best. I kinda like the way it sounds."
"Deku Is Fine!" Izuku states and I chuckle while Ida yells his name saying that Izuku shouldn't be taking the insult so nicely.
"Oh, but I want to ask if you don't mind. What is your relationship with each other," Uraraka asked.
"With who. Me and Izuku? Izuku and Ida? Me and Katsuki?" I questioned.
"Well. I guess you, Izuku and Bakugo," she answers.
"Ok. Izuku you explain," I say.
"Huh!? What!? Um, ok I guess." As we walked to the station Izuku explained that Izuku and Katsuki were childhood friends and that I was his sister and more of a rival to Katsuki than a friend.
"Hmm. I see. I did not know you had those kinds of relations with each other," said Ida.
"Wait, if you two are brother and sister does that make you two twins? And if so why don't you two look at all similar," Uraraka commented.
"To put it simply. I was adopted," I simply replied. I see this puts Ida and Uraraka in an uncomfortable situation.
"Oh. I'm sorry to ask that," Uraraka says, trying to clear the tension.
"No, don't apologize for that. Izuku here saved me from the streets when we were younger. I don't even really remember who my real parents were. And so the only family I know is with Izuku and our mom."
"Now that's a great way to look at it." Ida is in tears with his arm covering his eyes, "To think you were saving people at such a young age. You are going to become a great hero one day Izuku."
"What. That's not something that I should be praised for. I just did what anyone should have done, even for our age," Izuku said now blushing.
"Wow. Well I wouldn't expect less for someone who saved me from that zero point robot," Uraraka chimed in.
Izuku eventually calms down and we continue onto the station. After we get on the train Izuku finds me a seat and puts me down. Closing my eyes with the tiredness finally catching up now having time to finally process these new memories I have acquired.
