A/N: I hope you can tell time jumps in this fic. Like one chapter Sango was 3 months and the next she was giving birth. I'm not an idiot. LOL. So yeah, have another time jump (It's been 4 months now) because we don't need mundane details of their lives. I realize also that I took some liberty in people's ages. Just roll with it. Enjoy. THANK YOU readers and reviewers! Xoxo

A New Addition
10: When the Time Comes….
"Mother," Sesshomaru addressed as he led her inside to see Rin. The young girl limped with her leg brace on, but got up to greet them and bowed.
"You sure have done a lot for her." His mother stated as she entered the girl's room. Kimonos and other fine clothing lined her closet. "That's because I haven't seen you in some time." Her son commented. Her red lips twisted in a knowing smile, with a slight arrogance that he'd inherited, but she remained silent. He'd told her about the accident after he was certain Rin would pull through." "I knew you'd seek me out when the time called for it." She simply replied as she led them back out the door.

Inuyasha sat with Shippo silently at the doctor's office. The older male sat with his arms crossed and nervously glanced at the boy. Images of babies and books on parenting were all over the waiting room. He wished he'd talked to Miroku about handling a kid Shippo's age, but his kids were still too young, too. With Kagome expecting, he felt it was time. "Shippo, do you know where babies come from?" He finally asked. "Kagome's pregnant and you still don't know? What did you guys do anyway then?" Came the fox demon's snarky response. He didn't look up from the book he was holding. Inuyasha stared wide-eyed and his face turned red, mouth gaping, too. "Not what I meant." He ground out. "You're trying to explain it to me? I've known for a long time. I was orphaned, but I had parents once. You learn things from other kids anyway." He answered nonchalantly and went on searching in his Where's Waldo book, unaware of how frazzled his adopted father was. "You also realize that with Kagome's high risk pregnancy, this is our like fourth visit and you're just now trying to tell me this stuff?" The kitsune added. Inuyasha covered his face with both hands and cursed into his palms.
They got the OK that now that Kagome was 6 months along, she was off bed rest, but still had to take it easy.
"It's more like having an older brother." Shippo said to Rin in the car. "By the way, Rin, you know where babies come from, right?" "Shippo! Now is not the time!" Inuyasha snapped as he flipped around in the front seat to make eye contact. "Seroiusly? I'm eleven years old, Uncle Inuyasha. Besides, Sesshomaru-sama doesn't baby me. He makes sure I know the truth." She answered matter-of-factly. Kagome giggled beside her husband and put a hand gently on his shoulder. He gaped at the two kids, mumbled something about "growing up too fast" and put the radio on.
Rin was riding back with them from the hospital now that Sesshomaru was visiting with his mother. Her brace had been removed and she was walking fairly normally now. She held the ultrasound photo Kagome'd just had taken as she tried to make out what she was looking at. "I'm sorry, this picture just looks like an ink splotch to me." Shippo remarked. His adoptive cousin nodded in agreement.
"See you tonight." Kagome said as she finished a call with Sango, who'd just started back at work. Kohaku was not up for babysitting, but they had plenty of help with Kaede and even Mrs. Higurashi every now and then. Miroku was around a lot since he could work from home. He'd sell a house and they could rest comfortably for a short while at least.
Kagome got a call from her mother. Souta was in his first year of college and wanted to stop by. "Why didn't he just call himself?" The expecting mother asked. Her mother chuckled from the other end, "Oh, you know him. He's busy and I have more time to chat. I get to talk to you anyway." "We're going to Sango's tonight if he wants to meet us there." She offered. "Oh, I think he's taking the train, dear. Can you pick him up?" She saw Inuyasha's ears twitch at the suggestion and he nodded, his eyes focused on the road. "Of course!" She chirped.
Sesshomaru called next to check on Rin (Kagome answered Inuyasha's phone cuz he was driving and also he wouldn't pick up seeing it was Sesshomaru even though they were watching his daughter for him) and hearing they would have a full house invited everyone to his home.
"It's out of the way for everyone," Inuyasha complained as he and his wife walked up to their house. Rin was already inside with Shippo and out of earshot. "He's always just doing whatever's convenient for him!" "It's the weekend. He offered for all of us to sleep over. It'll be nice to see everyone and be together." Kagome encouraged as she looped her arm around his. "Yeah, I guess." He conceded as he pulled his arm out of her hold to put around her waist, placing a hand on the side of her round belly.
Sota finished loading up the car. "Bet you didn't sign up for staying at Sesshomaru's when you decided to visit." Inuyasha teased him. His brother-in-law laughed lightly, "Midterms are over. I don't care what I do now." "Yeah, I don't miss those." Kagome chimed in. "Kohaku just texted me, of course Sango and them are running late." Sota announced. "Let's stop over there, so they can follow us up." Inuyasha suggested. Rin and Shippo were playing with a Nintendo DS. Souta sat beside them, "Let me show you how it's done!"
They finally arrived at 7 in the evening. "I know how you feel about your brother, but this is nice." Miroku said as he placed a hand on his best friend's shoulder as they looked upon Sesshomaru's mansion. "Feh. Shut up and let's unload the car." He replied roughly as he opened the back of the SUV.
Rin sat next to Kohaku at dinner. He was four years older than her she recalled. Her cheeks flushed and she poked around the meatball on her plate. "Rin, don't play with your food." Sesshomaru reminded. "Yes." She muttered as she quickly ate it, her blush deepening. She slouched in her chair. "Don't slouch." Her adoptive father added. "M-may I be excused?" She asked. He curtly nodded. Kagome excused herself, too, for the third time since they'd sat down.
Rin was startled to see Kagome standing outside the bathroom door. "This baby sure is playing on my bladder." Her voice shook with laughter and her soft brown eyes filled with mirth. "We have like 5 other bathrooms here. I'm sorry you had to wait, stupid Jaken." The pre-teen muttered. "Actually, I thought maybe you'd want to have a girl's chat when I come out." She offered with a bright smile. "Sure!" The young girl accepted as she waited by the door humming to herself.
"Let's go for a walk." Kagome suggested as they went out onto the back porch. They sat comfortably by the koi pond. Rin looked down at Kagome's pregnant stomach and asked, "can I?" The wavy haired woman nodded and sat back with her legs crossed out in front of her to let Rin run a hand over her abdomen. "Does it hurt?" She asked. "Not at all." She assured. She rested her head on her hesitantly. "Careful, he or she kicks." She warned with a chuckle.
"Don't you want to know the gender?"
"In a world with so few surprises, I want this one to be one."
"What about Inuyasha? I bet he's dying to know."
Kagome's belly bounced as laughter convulsed her, "I know he is! But, we'll be prepared just the same." "I know what everyone says, but do you have a preference, really?" Rin inquired as she sat up to meet her brown eyes. "Really, I'd be happy either way, but I kind of wish for a girl. With Shippo, then I'd have one of each." She sincerely replied as she patted herself.
"It's too difficult being a girl." Rin added as she folded her arms around her propped up knees and rested her chin on them. Kagome shifted to a seated position and placed an arm around Rin, "It is, so what's troubling you?" The little girl glanced at her aunt over her shoulder, her eyes shifting nervously. "Tell me, how did you know you liked Uncle Yash?" She inquired. "Hmm. Well, I got butterflies in my stomach and couldn't control my blushing. I wanted to be around him all the time and thought about him constantly." Kagome explained.
"How did he propose?" She asked. "Oh, it was very simple," Kagome's eyes seemed to brighten and shine in the moonlight as she gaze looked over at the pond, but you could see she was looking at a fond memory with her mouth turned into a soft smile. "He took me up to an overlook of the forest out of the city. You could see the stars so clearly. We climbed up into a tree. Well, he took me up. We cuddled. He asked me if I would always stay with him because if I wanted to, then he would gladly share his life with me." "That's so like him." Rin giggled and sighed.
"My schedule is so full, but I find myself daydreaming about a boy." Rin confessed. She hid her face in her knees. Kagome caressed her hair and leaned her against her. "That's totally Okay." She assured. "It's not! He's older than me! And Sesshomaru-sama still treats me like a kid in front of him! I-I mean I know I'm still young…." Rin's voice trailed off and her face turned bright red, her hands shooting up to her cheeks to hide them.
"I think, maybe you could talk to Sesshomaru. He's probably more understanding than you'd think. Besides, that's what he's there for. He chose to adopt you, Rin. He knew this would come up." Kagome assured. "You're right. I just….It doesn't even matter 'cause I don't even see this boy very often." She admitted. "Rin, you're starting to grow up. It's not going to be easy, but it's good to start early. I always had my mom and even if I couldn't talk, just having her support was enough." She tilted her head and smiled at her. "Thank you. Could you get Sesshomaru-sama for me?" Rin asked. "Sure!" She stood up slowly and headed inside.

Sesshomaru stepped outside where Rin was waiting, keeping her eyes on the koi pond. It was dimly lit and the moonlight danced on the moving water. She whipped around to face the tall, silver-haired man who was raising her. "Sesshomaru-sama, I like a boy." She blurted out and bowed. Her body shook a little. "It's to be expected," he replied. "So, my mother is here if you'd prefer to have a woman to talk to." "Oh, thank you! But, I-I want to be able to talk to you about it." She clasped her hands together and twiddled her fingers. "Certainly. Do you have questions?" He asked as he took a seat beside her. "What should I do?" She asked.
"What do you mean?"
"About my feelings?"
"What do you want to do about them?"
"Well, first. I know I'm young, but could you not treat me like a child."
"I am your guardian and will act as such." He replied as he flipped a strand of his hair behind him. "Right. I guess I shouldn't play with my food. I was just nervous." She muttered. "Why?" He asked gently. "Be-because the boy I like is Kohaku." She confessed and looked at Sesshomaru out of the corner of her eye. "I see," he began, his voice stern.
"Rin, it doesn't matter the boy. You just need to be yourself. He should like you for you. If he doesn't then, he's a fool and doesn't deserve you." "I understand. Thank you!" She beamed up at him, but any flash of anger in his eyes had already passed. "Is that all?" He asked, no hint of irritation in his voice. He sounded patient and concerned. "That's all for now." She chirped as she stood up and brushed off her skirt. "Very well. We have guests awaiting us." He placed a hand on her back and led her back inside to the full house.
