Chapter 15
Fitz and Olivia were about to arrive at his parent's home. It had been a calming ride for them both. Their confrontations with Thomas Pope had been draining. For the most part Fitz had left the contentious undertaking back at the Pope house. He could sense that even though Olivia professed to be fine that she wasn't. She had made it through the debacle but she wasn't fine!
He had to be there for Olivia. Her choosing him, loving him had brought her this heartache and it bothered him. By no means would he change anything that had happened over the last week but seeing Olivia torn and pulled in multiple directions was painful for him. Her father hadn't been able to hurt him but he had hurt Olivia.
She had snuggled into his arms and looked up at him. She loved him so much and she knew she had made the right choice but the loss of her family still cut at her. Why did life have to be so hard. She had tried to hold back the tears that filled her eyes but she couldn't. They started to flow as she silently looked at the man she loved. She wasn't sobbing and weeping but as she sat there looking into those sky-blue eyes the tears had started to flow. Fitz had told her she could cry if she wanted to. If she wanted to talk about it, they could do that too.
"It's okay to cry Sweet Baby. You can cry about it. We can talk about. Whatever will make it easier for you. If it can be made easier. I imagine it's hard the emotions going through your brain and heart right now. No matter how dysfunction your family was, it was your family. It was all you have ever known and now its forever changed. We will get through this Olivia, you and I together. I will be right there with you. You aren't alone. I ask you to remember that."
She didn't want to talk about her parents right now. They both at this point were pretty much lost to her. Thomas Pope had kicked her out of his house and disowned her. Tessa Pope was living in an alternative universe. Olivia was afraid that her mother was doomed to live in that warped world. Today she had walked away from it. She could have encouraged her mother to leave with her but she did not. Olivia had wanted her mother to save herself! It wasn't her job anymore to save her mother. She had been doing it since she was ten years old.
She was now concentrating on herself and her life. It was all so sad, her family splintered into pieces because her father was such a fool. Over and over in her head she kept asking herself; what more could she have done? She had tried so hard. She had done everything possible to hold the family together. Yet it had still crumbled. She couldn't hold back her tears. She cried in Fitz' arms. He held her and told her to let it all out. He was there for her. She had heard him tell McKinley to ride them around town for a while. No place in particular but they weren't quite ready to go to his parent's home yet.
Olivia was glad that Fitz allowed her the time to grieve, if only for a little bit. And she was grieving. It was similar to a death in the family. Her broken family had finally shattered into pieces. How would she react to a loving family so different from her own? After all, Fitz was taking her to a family dinner that was in fact an affair where his family would be together celebrating their thankfulness at being together.
Taking her to an event where a loving and devoted family unit would be on display would surely have an effect on her. She had just left a complete shitshow! The only family Olivia had ever known had dissolved into nothing. It held a certain irony. She had gained what she was sure was the love of her life this week and yet she had lost her family.
None of this was Fitz' fault. None of this was Olivia's fault. The fault lay with the type of family Olivia had. It was dysfunctional and broken. Whether she had met Fitzgerald Grant and fallen in love with him was immaterial. The Pope Family in its current state wouldn't have been sustainable. This was what Olivia had to face and confront.
Crying was an Olivia Pope no-no. She hadn't cried since she was a green girl. She had decided that crying never solved a problem, so why do it? To date the two most painful things she had faced in her life had left her tearless. Her best friend, her brother was banished from his home. Their sibling bond was lost to her. And her precious grandmother, dear Nana had died. Both of these things had shaken her to the core. She was deeply hurt but she hadn't shed one tear. She had picked up the blank pieces of the puzzle her departed love ones represented, replaced them back into the dysfunction family puzzle and started anew!
Olivia had now become a blank puzzle piece. Now, even she no longer mattered. She had been shown the door! Her own banishment from the kingdom had shaken her. Yes, she had stood up to Thomas Pope and gave back the disrespect he so richly deserved but it all was so very disheartening. A father and a daughter toe to toe calling each other names.
Her father had discarded her like yesterday's trash. Had he ever loved anyone? His parents, his wife, his son, her; had they ever meant anything to him? Olivia was beginning to see that they had not. The only person that Thomas Pope truly cared about was himself! That realization that her father was a malignant narcissist that cared for no one left her shattered. She had needed to shed these tears in order to cleanse her soul. Fitz had held her close during it all and had offered soothing and healing words to her.
"I can't even imagine how you feel right now Olivia but as I have said, I'm here for you. You have seen the demise of your family as you knew it. I know it hurts. I've said it before and I sincerely hope that you know it's true. I love you, Olivia. And my family loves you too. We will love and cherish you; I promise. Cry it out Sweet Baby and know that you will always have me."
McKinley drove on. He would keep driving around the Caymans until Mr. Grant said otherwise. Meanwhile things were aligning at Grantiosity. Gabriella was attending to the final details of her Thanksgiving dinner. Her family was all here. Papa Joe and her wonderful husband, and devoted son Fitzgerald would be by her side.
Her son had found of all things to find on this island, love. The love of his life had been hiding here in plain sight. Olivia had been born and raised here. And she had been waiting for Fitzgerald to find her. There wasn't a doubt in Gabriella's mind that she had been directed to this island by a divine source. The Grants were sent here to find Olivia Pope. The woman was destined to be her son's soulmate!
The Grants had been coming to the Caymans for years. They would spend the two weeks in the Caribbean with a round of festive events that culminated in the celebration of the American holiday of Thanksgiving. After hosting several events during their two-week vacation with friends, people from the entertainment industry, and members of Grant Global; the finale was the Grant Thanksgiving dinner. It was reserved strictly for family. The only one that had been attending the dinner over the years that didn't either have Grant or Garnier blood cursing through their veins or had married into the family was Amalie Baptiste, his mother's best friend. The French connection was always there in full force. Joseph Grant, his son, and grandson were the last of the Grant line.
The traditional Thanksgiving family dinner had been started back in Beverly Hills by Gabriella. For more than a decade it had been here on the island. The family started coming to the Caymans the week before Thanksgiving many, many years ago. It was Gabriella's idea to start a Thanksgiving tradition here. Now it was a two-week extravaganza. So much so, that everyone that thought they were someone clamored to get that elusive invite to even one of her hosted events. Gabriella's soirees made national and global headlines!
Seven days ago, Gabriella's only son had left his parents' home to evade a human pest and had ended up meeting the love of his life. They had shared a blissful week and now had returned to the real world. Although it seemed like a world of make-believe they were in, it had been real. The love that Fitzgerald Grant and Olivia Pope had shared was real.
No matter the state of affairs right now, Olivia knew she had made the right choice. She looked up at the man that had offered her solace and comfort. He had just said the sweetest thing to her. She still had a family; his family was now hers. Fitz and his family would love her no matter what!
She reached out and touched his handsome face. Looking directly into his eyes calmed her even more than this his words. She would be alright. They would be alright.
"I'm so lucky to have found you. I love you with all my heart too. I'm thrilled to be attending your family's Thanksgiving dinner. I can't wait to share it with you. I've rarely cried in my life but this felt good. Hopefully it was a cleansing exercise for my soul. I'm not one-hundred percent. I may never be again but I'm close because I know that I have you! And that makes all the difference. I have to let go of what I can't change. I have to stop being the fixer.
I understand that more of the French connection will be in attendance. I can't wait to meet everyone. This family dinner will just what I need to push me forward out of this drama. Let's go to Grantiosity!"
"Are you sure Olivia. We could drive around town indefinitely."
"No Fitz. I have to put it behind me. Do I look alright? Are my eyes puffy? I normally don't cry. I haven't any idea what I look like after a good cry."
Fitz had taken a tissue and wiped the dampness from her eyes. He had also placed sweet kisses all about her face including her eyes. She hadn't cried for very long and the truth be told she looked marvelous. She'd had a good cry and she still was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.
"You look wonderful Olivia. No one would ever know that you had been crying. We'll be early and I'll get to show you more of the house and specifically the grounds. Grantiosity is a very special place. It will be available to us in the future when we return here. You do know that you can come back here to the Caymans, your home, whenever you wish? There isn't anything that says you can't come back here. Take all the words from your father and trash them. He has no control over you or me. Do you understand that, Olivia?"
"I do. I'd love to see more of your home. What I saw last Friday was most impressive! I can't wait to see more."
"Good, we have a plan. McKinley, we can head to Grantiosity now."
They arrived and rode the elevator up to the elaborate foyer. No one was there to greet them this time. People were busy moving about the mansion. It was obvious something was amidst. Themes of Thanksgiving could be seen everywhere. And the most beautiful live flowers and blossoms were all over the place. It was storybook beautiful this house, this home. Olivia was so thankful to be here.
"If I know Maman and I do. She will be in the kitchen right now making sure her Thanksgiving dinner is perfect. My mother has embraced the holiday with a passion. It's not celebrated in France, so it's an adopted practice for her but she loves it. Plus, she gets to see her immediate family once a year no matter what. Until you've had one of my mother's Thanksgiving dinners you haven't truly lived. And in another month, you will get to experience a Hollywood Christmas that will be off the chain. I'm hoping that by then you will be truly merged into the family."
"Fitz, I can tell you right now that I'm happy to be included in anything at all. Your family only met me a week ago and they have been nothing but gracious. I'm so grateful for their acceptance of me. Today will especially mean a lot to me. I thank God every night for sending you to me. I'm blessed Fitz and I hope to spend many holidays with you and your family. I've never even thought to go California let alone meet one of its reigning queens. Wherever my journey with you takes me; I will be the happiest of women because being with you is what my life is about. I love you with all my heart."
"Ditto. Let's go and tell the family we are here."
They found his mother in the kitchen and his father was with her. There were big hugs all around. Fitz had alerted his family about the Pope family dilemma and demise. Unless Olivia brought up the topic, he didn't want it discussed. Olivia was coping but she was fragile. He wanted Olivia to enjoy this dinner. He was on a mission to banish the last hours from her mind as much as possible. Later tonight he would see to them being gone completely. He intended that the five hours they were in the skies tonight, Olivia would think only of them!
"Olivia my Cherie, how good to see you again. You were the life of my little dinner party last week. I'm so thrilled that Fitzgerald has met you and is bringing you into the fold. I've always wanted a daughter and finally I have one!"
"Maman, Olivia hasn't exactly said yes yet, but I'm hopeful. In the meantime, I see nothing wrong with Olivia being treated exactly like family because she is! Dad I see you are on kitchen duty. Did you contribute to any dishes on the menu this year?"
"Just the usual son. We haven't strayed from the usual fixings and of course the delicious island dishes prepared by Chef Jameer. He knows every spice known to man and exactly where to put it. How are you, Olivia? Did you enjoy your holiday with my son?"
"I'm extraordinary Mr. Grant. Your son has been so good to me this past week. I couldn't have asked for a better holiday. The best thing about it all was getting to know Fitz. He's such a special man. I'm so lucky that we met. I'm sure Fitz has told you that we intend to continue our relationship. We will be friends and lovers in the states. To say I'm thrilled is such an understatement. I love your son and I intend to keep him! Thank you and Mrs. Grant for inviting me yet again to another family affair."
"Olivia, our son has made it very clear to us that he has found the love of his life in you. His love for you shines brightly in his eyes. You've made him so happy and for that we are grateful. As for as we are concerned you are a member of this family. You two may add the formalities of your relationship at your leisure. You are most welcome here Olivia.
I only hate that you only have part of the afternoon and evening to spend with us. Next month I hope your schedule allows you to join us in California for more than a couple of days. Jerry and I are planning a wonderful Christmas celebration. We would love to have you there."
"Fitz has mentioned it to me and I certainly hope my schedule will allow it. I will start actual hands on patient care next semester. It will be grueling I've been led to believe. I certainly hope that I can spend some of Christmas with Fitz and your family. I would love to see California, Fitz' birthplace, and your Hollywood home. This is my home stretch. I actually start my Post Graduate Year 1 in July. The months leading up to that will be difficult."
"Exactly what is Post Graduate Year 1 Olivia? I understand that you will graduate in the Spring, right?
"I will Mrs. Grant. Post Graduate Year 1 is nothing more than the new term for internship. It follows graduation. There are three phases of post graduate residency. Then comes passing the boards and deciding and going into specialization. All of this seems very daunting as Fitz and I are building the foundation for our relationship. I remain hopeful that we will make it all happen!"
"Of course, you two will make it happen. Where there is love there is a way. And the loves vibes are jumping off of you two. In advance allow me to wish you the best of luck in your medical career. I know you will be an excellent addition to the medical profession."
"Excellent assessment Maman. She is going to be a great doctor. Olivia and I are building our relationship on solid ground as we intend to blend her career and our relationship into something very special. I want to show Olivia more of the mansion and the grounds if you don't mind. I will give her the short tour as we want to mingle with the family before dinner. As you know, shortly after dinner we must head to the airport. I promise to get Olivia back to you mother so you can add some special insights to her tour. And Dad don't forget I need at least twenty to thirty minutes of your time this afternoon. I need your expertise on a matter."
"Sure thing, son. I'll catch up with you after you show Olivia around the place."
Grantiosity was a grand place. Jerry Grant had it built to specification for his wife. After coming here for years renting out almost the entirety of various resorts, they decided to build their own family home. Gabriella wanted a place where their friends and family could come and have a great time. Grantiosity is one of the most expensive mansions on the island.
Built twelve years ago it had been the talk of the island. The place boasted eight ensuite bedrooms outside of the master suite. There were three California-style bungalows on the grounds outside of the main house. Gabriella wanted room for her immediate family when she had a family gathering. And she wanted them close. The mansion itself had three floors. The main house was almost 42,000 square feet of living space. The grounds boasted a grotto that connected with a pool and a jacuzzi which was just a short walk from the Caribbean. There was a tennis court and basketball court on the grounds. There was also a practice green for the many golfers in the family.
The second floor housed the spacious kitchen, dining room, elegant ballroom and family room. The first floor was where all the suites were located including the master suite. Papa Joe claimed one of secondary suites as his own. Fitz had always spent his nights in Bungalow Three since the property was built. The third floor or bottom floor had a gaming room, theater room, and gym with a steam room. An office was also located down there. There were also three more regular bedrooms on the third floor or basement as Gabriella called it. The main house paired with the surrounding buildings was huge and it was currently valued around sixty-five million dollars. The entire property lay behind gates with twenty-four-hour security when the family was in residence.
This was a cursory tour for Olivia. Fitz talked very succinctly about everything as they did a basic walk-through of the house. They were now walking through the grotto. Fitz was actually taking Olivia to Bungalow Three which was his home away from home until Jacqueline Rutherford had precipitated his early departure. Olivia appeared to be alright but he wanted to be sure. She had experienced major trauma whether she would admit it or not. She had seemed fine enough with his parents but Olivia was hardly over what had happened on Overton Place and he knew it. He was hoping a little time here might help to mitigate some of what she was feeling.
"This is my place, Olivia. I was staying here until Miss Jackie R left me no choice but to hit the road. Come inside and talk to me a bit. I know you put on your Dr. Pope persona for my parents which is okay, but you really don't have to hide anything from them. I had told Mom and Dad that you would talk to your dad today after spending the week with me. They imagined that it would be explosive for you. You can share nothing or as much as you would like with them. They know I intend to marry you when you are ready. In their minds you are already their daughter. They know how much I love you. They understand that you are mine and I am yours."
"What did I ever do to deserve a man like you? You are so attuned to me and my feelings. I'm putting up a brave front because I wouldn't want to come here and put a damper on your family's Thanksgiving celebration. That would be rude. I'm not exactly a basket of laughs right now. There's a lot of sorrow surrounding me but I haven't any right to expect your family to be down in the dumps because I am. This should be a happy day for you and here you are with your girlfriend that is a Daisy Downer with family issues.
I really don't like to put on fake personas. I believe in truth. This thing is so hard Fitz. My entire family has disintegrated before my eyes. I knew there were problems but I was unprepared for the collapse I witnessed today. Not to say it wasn't inevitable. Broken spirits, incompatibility, indifference and constant lies, can hardly sustain a marriage. I think my parents' marriage ended today. I don't know that for sure. I do know that my father will try to punish my mother for her actions today. I suspect he will throw her out into the streets. Normally I'm the buffer between them. Without me there, what in the world will my father do to my mother? I know I said I'd washed my hands of her hoping she will stand up for her but I'm so worried."
"What do you want me to do Olivia? I can go and get your mother and bring her here. This place is basically a fortress. No one gets in here uninvited. I can go and get her if you want."
"No, I only want to know that she is okay. I can't think not knowing her fate. I know I can't save her; she has to save herself. When I left that house today, I left everything behind including her. I've accepted that conditionally, I think. My father was so angry and volatile. I feel he may take the anger he couldn't express for me and target my mother even more. In fact, I'm sure that he would and I'm bothered by that. What can I do Fitz? I don't ever want to set foot back in that house!"
"No, you don't and you won't. I will go there myself."
"No Fitz, I won't have you going back there. I imagine that he's very angry at you as well. He blames you for all of this you know? You came to town deflowered and corrupted me. You've altered the kingdom. You would only inspire more rage in him. I'm going to call the house and ask to speak to her! I want to know that she's alright!"
"Do that Olivia and maybe it will put your mind at ease. Your father isn't a complete fool, Olivia. I suspect he knows how far to take his madness."
Olivia dialed the home of her parents. She was very anxious as to what she would hear on the other end of the line. It was ringing but there wasn't an answer. That was worrisome. Someone always answered the phone. She held on. The phone was still ringing. Finally, after what seemed like several minutes, someone picked up the phone. Whoever had answered would know it was her. Finally, there was a hello. It was her father.
"I'd like to speak to my mother, please."
"Why are you calling here Olivia? Tessa isn't here. She left here shortly after you left here with your lover. She packed a bag and left. She's probably at your Aunt Joline's. No doubt she is taking a break from all the turmoil you have caused in this house. I hope you are happy with yourself. All of this so that you can play…"
"If you are certain my mother isn't at home our conversation is over."
"I say again with certainty, she isn't here."
Olivia hung up the phone. She believed him. Tessa Pope had walked out on her wretched husband. That was good news. Where was she? Maybe she was at Aunt Joline's house. She needed to call her mother. Her mother had a cell phone that she rarely used. Olivia hoped she even had the damn thing turned on. Her mother was a homebody and rarely went anywhere other than to visit her sisters. The housekeeper/cook purchased the groceries and ran errands for her mother.
"She's not there Fitz. She packed a bag and she left. I need to call her."
Olivia punched in her mother's cell phone number. Surprisingly she answered on the first ring. Relief surged through Olivia's body. Her mother was safe and some place away from Thomas Pope.
"Hello Olivia."
"Mother where are you? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine Olivia. I've left your father and I'm not going back. I'm sorry for the awful things you had to witness at that house and especially today. I was a fool to have stayed there for this long. I'm staying at the Longworth. I still have to get my bearings but I'll be fine. You go right ahead with your life as you had planned. There's no need for you to worry about me. Once I leave here, I will probably go to either Molly's or Joline's. I will be seeking a divorce from your father. Once that is in the works I can move on with my life."
"I believe you are taking the right steps in this matter. Do you need anything Mother? Do you need money? If I know Thomas Pope, he will cut you off very soon if you don't dance to his tune. I have some money saved if you need it. I can have it transferred to an account for you."
"I have money Olivia that I saved for this day. I'll be fine. Go back to Massachusetts and finish your training. Become the doctor you have always wanted to be. I will call Tommy myself with the news about me and your father. You don't need to be in this Olivia. Believe it or not I can and will handle your father. Go about your business and be happy. I hope someday in the future you will have forgiven me for the bad parent I've been all of these years. I had a lapse in judgment that I have reclaimed. I have no intentions of leaving this island, my home because of Thomas Pope. It is he, that must re-adjust his life to new circumstances. I have put much thought into this move I've made. You aren't to worry."
"Mother I'm relieved to know that you have made this move. As I said, it's the right one. Father doesn't deserve you. Standing up to him and walking out the door was a very good move. I suspect he will change his tune once he realizes your worth momma. He's never been without you to manipulate and control. You've been a drug for his madness. He'll use every trick in the book to get you back into that house.
I've studied men like Father as a school assignment. I purposely chose the topic because of men like him, hoping to better understand him and his actions. Please be warned and stay on course. As you have told me, nothing good is inside that house for you! If you need me for anything let me know.
I mentioned you sending my things that remain in my apartment. That may be a problem now that you're out of the house. Since it's best that you not return there, I must seek others ways to retrieve my property. Miss Deborah should be able to pack up my things if father will let her. I could call her and see. As for my vehicles don't worry about them. I would love to have them both, they are valued possessions. In any case you must allow me to handle those situations. Please do not return to Overton Place."
"Believe me Olivia, Overton Place is the last destination I shall go to. I left there for a very good reason. We have spoken only of me. Are you alright? Your father was very harsh and vile to you today. My heart broke for you having to hear that filth from one that is supposed to love and nurture you. I'm so sorry for my failure as a mother. I allowed myself to get into a thankless rut. I was punishing myself for past transgressions and allowed myself to become a punching bag and a punchline. All of my troubles every bit of them lie at my own feet Olivia.
There is a story to be told and perhaps one day you will know it. In the meantime, promise me that you will lead your life as you choose. Your young man seems to honor and love you, Olivia. If you didn't know he came to Overton Place and read your father the riot act. He will never allow your father's conduct to extend to you. He made that very clear to Thomas. I hope Thomas was listening.
Be happy Olivia. This is what I want for you and what you deserve. Thomas Pope knows nothing of a loving relationship because in his entire miserable life he has never known one. You and Mr. Grant stay clear of him. He's a monster! I love you, Olivia. I promise to stay in touch. Goodbye."
"That is all I ask of you then. Please stay in touch. Goodbye, Momma."
"She's alright Fitz and she's safe. She says she doesn't need anything, including money. She's staying at one of the resorts on the outskirts of town. I'm so relieved to know she's okay. I feel like I can breathe now. How did you know that I was so on edge Fitz? Was I that obvious?"
"Olivia, your feelings were very obvious to me. I've only known you for a week but it feels like I've known you for a lifetime. I know that I can't read your mind Olivia but a lot of what you feel comes directly at me. I can feel it. We have an extremely deep connection. We both realized it the day we met. I've seen visions concerning our future and so have you. We are very connected to the each other. Whether that is necessarily always a good thing I don't know? I just know I love you and when you feel unease so do I.
The news about your mother is a good thing. I'm relieved to know she left the man. He's without a doubt a deranged individual. Do you truly believe she doesn't need anything? I can almost assure you that the very first thing your father will do is strip your mother of financial security. He will use trick after dirty trick to make her believe that she needs him. I hate to have to say this Olivia but your mother has proven herself to be a weak woman. Thomas Pope knows this and he will try to use that against her in his quest to bring her back under his domination. He has been a dictator for a long time. He won't let go of power easily. Your mother should be very careful."
"I agree Fitz but mother has to stand up to Father herself. I want to stay out of it if I can. She has promised to talk to Tommy herself about this awful mess and I suspect she will find a champion in him. He has wanted to come to her rescue for years and she held him back. Of course, what she needs is a champion and knight such as I have. Too bad she doesn't have a Fitzgerald Grant to love and defend her. Momma told me you read my father the riot act today. Thanks for standing up for me and our love."
"I will always stand up for you Olivia. Loving you as I do, it's my sworn duty to protect you from all things, even irate fathers. I know you will be in touch with your mother which is a good thing. Of course, you know if there is anything at all that I can do to help your mother, you have but to ask. Do you feel more inclined to face an over-the-top family gathering now? Thanksgiving dinner with the Grants is something to behold."
"I feel so much better. Thanks for bringing me here. Come here and let me thank you properly with a kiss and whatever else you may desire. God, I love you so much. How in the world did I live in this world without you?
Olivia marched up to him and placed her arms around his neck. Immediately he pulled her into his arms, molding her to him. He lowered his mouth for the kiss she had just promised. Olivia and Fitz didn't just kiss, they devoured each other. Within minutes they had unleashed the fire they had held back this morning. The Caribbean Heat they could make had filled the room. Fitz was the one to break the kiss. He wanted her with a passion but he had only brought Olivia here to calm her nerves and make her feel better about her parental dilemma. As much as he desired it, he wouldn't place Olivia on that bed behind her and make love to her!
Luckily, she had reached her mother and she was somewhat relieved and less tense about the situation. As much as he wanted her right now, this was neither the time nor the place. In a couple of hours, they would be above the entire world flying over the planet. They would have plenty of time to quell their hunger for each other. He placed sweet little kisses upon Olivia's forehead. He brought an entwined hand to his lips and kissed that too. Then he looked into her eyes. They were dilated with passion as he was sure his was. They needed to head back to the family. Passion would wait.
"Nothing would please me more Olivia than to take you into that room right behind you and make love to you but I didn't bring you here for that. I simply wanted to put some of the joy that was sucked from you earlier today back into your heart. I can now see that marvelous Olivia Pope smile and it makes my heart swell. My heart's desire right now was to see you smile and you are. We have all evening to make love Olivia."
They walked back to the main house on the opposite side of the property. Fitz showed her some more of the magnificent and majestic place. Olivia was quite in awe when they arrived back at the main house. Fitz put Olivia into his mother's capable hands and he went to find his father.
"Olivia, it's so good to have you back here. A huge party like the one that was going on the last time you were here isn't the ideal place to meet the woman your son has fallen in love with. We should've had much more time to get to know each other. I so admire you for taking a leap of faith with my son. I can only imagine the thoughts running through your head as my son pursued you. Fitz has never been shy about going after something he really wants.
We are extremely close. He called me the day he first met you at the resort pool. His heart was already on his sleeve. He was sure you were the one. Short of kidnapping you, he was determined not to lose you. He was afraid that somehow you would slip through his hands. I'm glad that you saw whatever it was that Fitz saw too. My son is never tongue-tied or uncertain about anything but he was determined that you knew that he had come for you and you alone."
"At first I had thought Fitz wasn't any different than the dozens of men that hit on me every day. Then he spoke to me. You see, I'd heard his voice before in my dreams. I'd seen visions of us together intimately. And for the record I'd never been intimate with a man before your son. So, I did know he had come for me. Fitz is my knight in shining armor and I always knew he was coming.
Fitz and I were saying today that we had met before we actually did. Your son is my destiny. I know this and I won't fight that at all. We're so lucky that our time has come. Fitz is taking me back to Cambridge tonight and we will continue on our journey of love and discovery. Thank-you and Mr. Grant so much for inviting me yet again to a family affair.
We don't actually celebrate the traditional Thanksgiving here. We have a celebration the first weekend in December where we celebrate the unity of our three islands. We also express thankfulness for our families, address local traditions, and we are grateful that the hurricane season has ended. There isn't necessarily a big family meal. Most families leave the house to go to the marketplace and partake of the local culture and foods. It's a happy time as well, without the concentration on family so much.
This will be my first family Thanksgiving dinner and I'm excited about it. I'm not a big eater but Fitz has described to me some dishes I look forward to tasting today. He loves to sit at your dinner table Mrs. Grant. He describes you not only as the world's best mother but he says you are an exquisite cook of not only French cuisine but American fare as well."
"I don't cook so much anymore Olivia. I direct and insist that my meals taste as they should! I have wonderful chefs that come with me and my family all over the world. Money can afford many luxuries and I embrace them all. However, I never forget from where I came. I remain humble. My entire family does. My son was reared amongst fame and fortune but you'll never find a more humble human. He's the spitting image of my Jerry and he also has his loving heart. Have a care for his heart Olivia. He has never given it before."
"I love your son Mrs. Grant. I too, have never put my heart in the care of another. We will be most gentle with one another."
"Enough of this talk today. Let me show you more of the house. Before you know it, it will be time for dinner. Let's go to the basement. Now there is a fun place.
Gisella Garnier put her arms around the woman that loved her son and described what she was about to see.
In the meantime, Fitz was in discussion with his father on how best to handle Thomas Pope. He had shared the conversation he had with Olivia's father. Fitz intended to crush the man and get him out of Olivia's life. The man was a negative force and he wasn't going to have that around Olivia and the family they would build.
His father would know the exact way to take care of a man like Thomas Pope and his madness. Knowing that Olivia's mother was away from the madman had changed the dynamics of the problem. This should be a relatively short exercise. The man wasn't a fool. If he still wanted to continue to be a big dog on this island, he would adjust to the new conditions under which he would lead his life. He had banished Olivia from his life. Fitz liked the idea of that being a permanent condition.
Jerry Grant had conferred with his son about the Thomas Pope problem and they were in agreement the man had to be stopped. His treatment of Olivia and her mother would end. The man and his reign of terror was over. They were walking shoulder to shoulder around the grounds discussing the situation. Fitz was thinking that maybe this particular thing was something that Olivia need not know but his father disagreed. It was necessary to tell her the truth up front. The man was still her father. Even though she had expressed disgust and supposedly had cut the man off. Did he doubt that she still loved a man she had called father her entire life?
His father was right of course. He was so angry that the man had dared to touch Olivia. Fitz wanted him to pay for that big time. His father had calmly told him there was be a time and place for the retribution he wanted to exact from Thomas Pope. "Wait for it, Fitz. Retribution doesn't have to be swift; it simply has to occur."
It was dinner time. They needed to get back to the house. Their ladies were waiting. Dinner was an elaborate affair. There were close to forty men, women, and children at the dinner table. Papa Joe was at one end of the massive table and Jerry Grant at the other end. Fitz was to the left of his father and Gabriella to his right. Amalie Baptiste and her husband was beside Gabriella. Her sisters and brother along with their families next lined the tables. Some of the first cousins were present as well. Papa Joe gave his customary Thanksgiving prayer and dinner was served.
Dinner consisted of three turkeys. They had all been prepared differently. One had been roasted, one had been fried after being infused with Cajun spices, the third one had been split and essentially smoked, and "jerked" atop of a grill courtesy of Chef Jameer. There were two spiral honey-glazed hams, two racks of lamb, oyster stuffing, apple-walnut stuffing, orange and ginger sweet potatoes, string beans with almonds, bacon-wrapped roasted asparagus, cornbread casserole, baby red mashed potatoes, turkey giblet gravy, mint jelly and whole cranberry chutney. Desserts were orange and lime sherbets, peach cobbler, sour cream pound cake, fresh strawberry fusion, apple pie, and vanilla ice cream.
Every morsel was a delicious treat. The family ate with gusto. Once again Olivia could see why Fitz was such an eater. It was a family trait. He and his father piled their platters high with everything the first time around. They totally devoured everything on their plates. Gabriella wasn't a dainty eater either. She had a full plate, just not of every single item. Olivia chose a slice of turkey with oyster stuffing and gravy, a small serving of lamb, asparagus, and some cranberry chutney. Olivia was stuffed after eating a little more than half of the food on her plate. She hated to but she had to forgo dessert.
Dessert was a big deal at a Grant dinner table. The menfolk lived for it. It was why they religiously followed the regiments of a personal trainer and more. If you ate big and had a sweet tooth there were consequences. Jerry Grant still had the body of a thirty-six-year-old. He was a couple of inches taller than his son, he had graying hairs in his temple, and crows' feet around his eyes. Except for those minor differences Jerry Grant could be his son's twin. In other words, the only difference between he and his son were detailed on a birth certificate.
The peach cobbler had been made with his wife's own hand. She had perfected the concoction especially for her husband and son. They both loved it! He had a huge serving in a dessert bowl topped with two scoops of vanilla ice cream. Fitz had a slice of pound cake with two scoops of vanilla ice cream covered with the fresh strawberry fusion mix. Cups of delicious freshly brewed coffee were served with dessert. Fitz was trying to find out from his mother how to get some peach cobbler ready for take-out. Not to worry Gabriella had an entire peach cobbler boxed and ready for her son to take home.
Unfortunately, after dessert Fitz and Olivia had to say their goodbyes. They needed to leave for the thirty-minute ride to the airport. Even though there wasn't protocol for private flights Fitz wanted to arrive early to discuss things with the pilot. He was a licensed pilot himself but his early arrival today had little to do piloting. He had already talked to Captain Foxworth. There wouldn't be attendants on the flight tonight. Only the pilot and co-pilot would be onboard. This was going to be a very special trip and he wanted Olivia to be free and uninhibited during their flight. They would attend to their own needs if they had any other than the need of each other.
They arrived at the airport and went directly to the plane. Flying private was so easy and in most cases a very pleasant thing. It had always been pleasant for Fitzgerald Grant. He had been in and out of private jets since he was a young child. The "Studio" often flew Gabriella to her commitments in the industry all over the United States and the globe. Many times, in the earlier years her baby was with her. He had led a charmed life. He knew it and he was grateful. Grant Global had bought its first private jet, a used one back in the early nineties. Papa Joe and son were often at opposite ends of the globe maintaining and expanding their empire. They needed a second jet in order to best use the talents of both men.
Fitz had always been part of the family business but joined wholeheartedly after he completed law school. He acquired his own office and official title. There was any family discord or anything that happened. After a few years, Fitz knew that he simply wanted to be a lawyer practicing a particular brand of law. He stayed on as a member of the board and legal consultant. He branched out on his own and hung up a shingle that said Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III, Esquire and Entertainment Lawyer Extraordinaire in the heart of Manhattan. His first client was his mom and the rest is history. He now represented some of the industry's most famous names. He was the one that suggested that his mother needed her jet. He presented the idea to his dad who agreed right away. The family had gifted it to her on her forty-fifth birthday.
The Bombardier seriously out-shined the Embraer, and Cessna by leaps and bounds. The plane had been custom build for Gabriella. After the cockpit and cabin attendant area the plane exemplified Gabriella Garnier. Her taste and her preferences could be seen throughout the plane. As an actress and director travelling from place to place all over the world Gabriella wanted to have parts of home with her. The times that her family travelled with her she wanted them comfortable. She wasn't the only contract player at her studio and sometimes a studio plane wasn't available. Her own private jet solved that problem. From the moment it was gifted to her it was love at first sight. She refers to the plane as her other baby.
The plane features four first-class seats and a three-seater couch that was seat belt optional. That same couch can be turned into queen-sized bedding by releasing two pins. The four first-class seats can become a dining area when a circular table rises from the floor. There is a top-of-the-line stereo hook-up and a seventy-five-inch TV lines the wall as well as two of his mother's favorite paintings. Leaving this area, you pass through two French doors that will put you into the master bedroom. There is a king-sized bed, a dressing table, over-sized closet, a forty-two-inch television and a fifth first class cabin seat. At the end of the bedroom is a full-size bath and shower. Lots of times when his mother arrived at her destination for work, she was already to go on arrival.
The plane had been a godsend for Gabriella. She adored it. It is one of her most prized possessions. This was the first time that her son had specifically asked to use the plane solely for himself. He used the other smaller jets as he needed them which was mostly for business. The family had flown down on the mid-sized jet from New York. His parents and grandfather had been in New York for several days before they all had flown down to the Caymans.
Fitz had not beaten around the bush. He wanted to fly Olivia home himself. He was still cementing the relationship and he didn't want Olivia to see anything other than positivity as they moved forward. He could use one of the smaller planes but as he told his parents, he wanted Olivia "comfortable."
His father had laughed out loud when Fitz had used that line and his mother had hidden her smile behind her hand. They both knew what he wanted for Olivia. They had been there and done that. Their son intended to fuck Olivia Pope senseless during the almost five hours they would be in the skies. There wasn't anything wrong with that as far as they were concerned. They wanted their son happy and content. His relationship with Miss Pope had hardly begun and it had put a much-deserved smile on his face. Olivia herself had faced a lot in her decision to enter into a relationship with Fitz. They needed this time alone. It was all very understandable.
When Gabriella made the request for the jet, she was very exact just as her son had been. No cabin attendants would be needed. The plane and pilots were all he requested. And that was what he got!
"Good evening, Mr. Grant. How nice to see you again and hello to our lovely guest. Everything is ready and we can get in the air as soon as the tower clears us. The bar and the frig are both liberally stocked. I understand you wanted no cabin service. So, it will be me and Otto in the cockpit. If you should need us for anything en route let us know."
"Thank you, Captain Foxworth. He's better known as Fox, Olivia. Fox has been my mother's pilot since she acquired the plane. Our guest this evening is my girlfriend Olivia Pope. Captain Alex Foxworth and his first officer is Captain Ottoman James who I'm sure you will meet at some point are our pilots for the evening. Are we still set for takeoff at seven?"
"Very pleased to meet you Miss Pope. I hope you will enjoy your time aboard with us. We are still set for a seven o'clock take-off.
"I'm pleased to make your acquaintance Captain Foxworth. Fitz has spoken highly of you and your co-pilot. I do appreciate you coming all this way to take me home. I love the idea of Fitz and I having this time together."
"Not a problem, it's my pleasure. Welcome aboard!"
Walking into that plane was like walking into a fairytale. Olivia could hardly believe her eyes. It was truly a small house in the sky. They had walked through an area that resembled what you saw on a commercial flight but there was an aura of extravagance and obviously money everywhere else. There were two flight chairs folded in the corner obviously for cabin attendants. You opened up the refrigerated and frozen foods areas and everything was labelled. From Black Fin tuna, caviar, fried chicken, filet mignon; it was all there. The bar area was full of top shelf labels of liquors and mixed-drinks mixtures. You could hear a small appliance making ice. There was small lavatory off to the right. Two ornate wooden doors opened to the passenger space.
It was after Olivia walked through those doors that she was floored. What she saw resembled a small home. In fact, she was looking at a small den or family room. You could see elements of Gabriella throughout the room reminding you of the home back in the Caymans. A couch, chairs, a table, a wide screen TV, real art on the walls. The French doors were open wide and the opulent bedroom was visible. The bed was made up and stacked high with decorative pillows.
"Welcome aboard Olivia. I'm hoping you will enjoy your flight home."
"Thank-you, Fitz. I'm sure I will."
"Well Mr. Grant if there is nothing that you need, I will get back into the cockpit. Otto is taking care of take-off plans as we speak. Are you sure you don't need anything? I know you have ridden with us many times before. What about you Miss Pope, any questions."
"No, Captain but thanks for your concern. I put myself in your capable and experienced hands."
"Fox, if you would be so kind as to let us know once we had reached our flying altitude, I would be grateful. The only other thing we will need barring some emergency in the air, is a notification when we are thirty-minutes out. Other than that, we are fine, Thank-you.
"As you wish Sir. You and the young lady have a splendid flight!"
When Captain Foxworth walked through the doors and closed them. Fitz walked up and locked them. Unless there was truly some in air emergency he didn't wish to be disturbed. He saw no need to say it out loud again. Fitz had been very plain when he had spoken to Fox on the phone.
He turned to Olivia and smiled. They were alone at last. When Olivia smiled back and Fitz could tell her smile was genuine his heart was happy. He spoke first.
"Hi."
"Hi."
Memories of a week ago flooded Olivia's mind. She had her first taste of passion with the man speaking to her. It was the most wonderful thing that had happened thus far in her life being loved by Fitzgerald Grant. What they had shared that first night. She suspected that she would never feel the things she had felt that night again but she was sure she and Fitz would try and replicate it.
"Hi" had started on their first morning as lovers when she had awakened in his arms. He was staring at her. Olivia felt a little self-conscious after all she was naked as a jaybird. She had her first sexual encounter with a man and then, they had done it again and again. She felt vulnerable with him staring at her so intently. He had seemed pleased with her but she didn't really know. He called out to her each time he exploded inside of her and he had said he loved her. Still, they had literally just met. She knew that she loved him or she wouldn't be where she was right now. He was still staring. Olivia lowered her eyes at his scrutiny.
"Olivia don't be embarrassed or shy away from me. I was only staring because you are so beautiful. And last night, it was all I ever dreamed. I can't believe you are truly here with me is all. I love you, Olivia. You can't possible know how happy you have made me."
"Fitz, what we did last night? Did I please you?"
"What do you mean Olivia? Of course, you pleased me. Sex with you last night was the best I've ever had I swear!"
"The best?"
"The best."
Olivia had let out a deep breath and she smiled. Fitz called it his smile because it seemed directed solely at and for him. She reached out to touch his face and trace his lips with her finger.
"Loving you is so new for me. At times it seems so impossible, what is happening between us. I woke up and there you are watching me and I wasn't quite sure what to say that would encapsulate everything I was feeling. My love for you, how happy I am to be here with you, how you make me feel so wonderful, so loved. I was at a loss for words."
"I was pretty much feeling the exact same thing lying there watching you sleep. So much love for you was pumping in my heart. I couldn't express my joy and contentment. So, I was just staring at you praying it wasn't a dream. You made me feel so loved last night and this morning. I have a suggestion."
"What?"
"When you came awake this morning, I wanted to say all those things to you and more so you would know what I was feeling. It's a long-drawn-out process to say how much I love you Olivia every time I lay eyes on you. What about if we simply say "Hi" and let it speak for us. When either one of us wishes to say I love you more than anything, all is well, and we are fine no matter what is swirling around us; we simply say Hi. All might not be right with the world but with us it is.
"Hi."
"I love it Fitz. Hi."
Now they were embarking on another journey. They were heading for the United States of America. They intended to build a life there as they learned more about the other through word and deed. They were going to be up in the clouds together for five hours. Olivia knew that Fitz intended to make love to her in this very plane they were standing in for most of those hours. He had promised her heavenly delights and she was ready for every one of them. She had been thinking of nothing else since they left his parent's house.
He was standing there after greeting her with their special word looking so fine. He was the most handsome man she had ever seen, no one else could compare. She walked up to him and entwined their hands. She brought the back of his hand to her lips and she looked boldly into his eyes.
"I love you so much!"
"I love you too Sweet Baby. In just a few minutes I suspect the captain will say, 'Please take your seats and buckle up for takeoff.' Flying private is the bomb but some things are very much the same. Come sit next to me. You have the window seat so you say goodbye to your island until we return here. Settle back and relax. We will be in the air and the captain will let us know we are at our flying altitude. In my heart I know this is going to be the best flying experience of my life!"
They sat side by side holding hands, waiting. They had last made love about eight hours ago. This was their longest stretch without the other. They both were hyped up. Olivia had dampened her panties and Fitz had been semi-hard for a while now. At some point they both knew that things were going to get hot on this plane. Finally, they heard a voice over the intercom.
"Mr. Grant and Miss Pope, please take your seats and buckle up for take-off. You will be notified as to when you may remove your seatbelt. Have a wonderful flight."
They experienced the rush of the takeoff and they were thrust into the skies. The skies had darkened down and different shades of a Cayman sunset were visible.
"I will never forget this place. I found you here Olivia. For that I will always be thankful."
"I will miss this place. It was my home. As of this week my home is where my heart is. That would be wherever you are Fitz. You hold my heart in your hands and I'm not the least bit afraid that you do. I'm content knowing I belong to you and vice versa. Do I sound like a woman madly in love? Because I am Fitz, with you."
"Your words make me love you more Olivia. You say the sweetest things to me. It's not even flattery. You simply speak your mind and the words come out so lovingly. Your heart is safe with me Olivia. I promise."
Fitz reached out and grabbed a remote from the stand next to him he pressed a button and suddenly the voice of Luther Vandross filled the cabin. Olivia looked at Fitz and smiled. Luther was her absolute favorite and Fitz had told her that his mother loved him also. The jam playing was "Always and Forever." It was a mellow and loving tune for the lovers as they sat staring into each other eyes. Next up was "So Amazing." The third song playing was the classic duet "There's Nothing Better Than Love" with Gregory Hines. It was one of Olivia's favorites.
"Fitz this is so magical and special. Thanks for sharing this with me, making it possible for us to travel together like this. And this music, Luther. I love it. Is it a Gabriella mix?"
"It is. Mother told me she had a surprise for us. I was told to turn on the stereo and press the number three. Maman is setting the mood for love."
"And she is doing a wonderful job. I love you. I hope you intend to make love to me up here. I really want to."
"Surely you know I intend to ravish you while we are up here. I intend to love you like you have never been loved before Olivia. I want you to know why we belong to each other."
"I can't wait. I want and need you so much. I can't wait for Captain Foxworth to say we are cleared. I want to get out of this seat and go to that bed over there for starters. I can't wait to feel you inside me."
"We are cleared Olivia. See that green light over there beside the big screen? It was red and now it's green for a reason. This is such a special night for us Olivia. We have close to five hours to play according to the captain. There's no need to rush. Will you dance with me Olivia? I want to hold you close and feel your body next to mine."
"Of course, I will. I love dancing with you."
Another duet started, it was Luther and Diana's "Endless Love." This mix had been specially prepared by Gabriella but not for the current lovers on the plane. Gabriella had made this mix for she and Jerry years ago. 'Turn the stereo on Fitz and listen to one of my favorite mixes of Luther love songs. I bet Olivia will love it if she loves Luther! Plus, it is pure mood music. It puts you in the mood. Your father even loves it.'
Fitz had been in the mood for hours. He didn't need music to put him there. He wanted Olivia drained of her sorrows from today and only thinking of them as they flew back to the states. He knew this wouldn't be the last time they would fly together but it was the first. He wanted their time together in this plane imprinted on Olivia Pope's soul!
Fitz unfastened his seatbelt and then Olivia's. She stood up and he pulled her into his arms. She felt so good and so right in his arms. They moved to the center of room and they started to sway to the music. Fitz didn't disappoint, he could dance. He held her tight and close. He wanted her to know how much she wanted her.
It had amazed Olivia when she realized that her boyfriend had rhythm. They moved as one with the music. Olivia could feel his hardness and she reveled in it. They were going to make love soon and she was so ready. They danced through two more tunes. Fitz was whispering in ear how much he loved her and all he planned to do her to show her how much. Olivia felt like she was in the Caribbean heat, she was on fire!
"I feel the same way Fitz. I want you so much. I need you so much. Don't make me wait long. I don't want to. I need to feel you inside me. Fitz I…"
"I know what you need Sweet Baby. Slow down Olivia. We both are going to get exactly what we want. One more dance. One more love song to celebrate us. You couldn't possibly want me as much as I want you. I've been wanting to fuck you all day. This is foreplay, plain and simple."
Olivia started pressing little kisses along his jawline and neck. Her wet tongue outlined the folds of his ears. Her hands were in his back pockets cupping his ass, pulling him to her. Her mons was slowly and seductively massaging his dick.
"Livvy, you aren't playing fair and you know it!"
"All's fair in love, Fitz. You taught me that. That bed I'm looking at is calling us. Don't make me wait any longer. I need you!"
The ambiance of flying at thirty-thousand feet, listening to Luther Vandross, and the love of his life in his arms was the things dreams were made of. This segment of their ritual was over. Olivia's initiation into the Miles High Club was about to begin.
"Get your fine ass out of those clothes Olivia and wait for me atop of that bed. We are about to start a marathon flight to Massachusetts. Are you ready? I have fours condoms inside my jacket pocket. Have I under or overestimated us?
Olivia wasted no time. Fitz watched as she stripped down to her birthday suit. Olivia knew just how much her naked body excited him. She pushed her breasts up closely together and massaged her own nipples. She next lowered her right hand to her perfectly formed triangle. Fitz watched her middle finger disappear inside her. It came out glistening and wet. Olivia plopped it into her mouth and sucked it clean.
"Wet, hot, and tasty, just for you. I'm so ready for my initiation in the Miles High Club, Sir Fuckalot. Your name alone suggests that you may have underestimated yourself. Four condoms for what I see straining to get out of those britches? I see you're a court jester as well!"
Fitz was laughing out loud at Olivia's last words but his eyes were trained on her as he dashed out of his clothing. Olivia Pope never ceased to amaze him. Her sexuality was off the chain. She held back little. Had he ever wanted a woman as much as he wanted this one? No. He hadn't.
Olivia was now lying atop of the massive bed on what had to have been the most luxurious sheets in the world. They were silk and they were about to turned every which way but loose. The sheets felt cool and hot against her skin. She smiled at her lover as her legs opened sensual and inviting!
Fitz joined her on the bed and dropped the four condoms he now held in his hands atop of Olivia's flat belly. He was looking at her as if he would devour her whole.
"Choose one for what will happen next. First, I intent to feast upon you and then I intent to fuck you until you cry Uncle. Does that sound like a plan?
She reached out to him and said, "It sounds like a very good plan."
