Chapter 29
Christmas Day Part 1
"Fitz, wake up! Your alarm is going off. We have to get ready for the gift exchange. We don't dare be late and we have to shower."
"We have plenty of time Olivia. We won't be late I promise. How are you feeling this morning? You had a long day yesterday. And you had a lot of wine last night. Are you okay?"
"I feel great. I did get a little buzzed last night. Two glasses of wine are usually my limit. I've been known to become silly if I over indulge in ETOH intake. I didn't get silly last night, did I? I hope I didn't embarrass you in front of your friends."
Her boyfriend was smiling. "You were perfect last night Olivia. Everyone enjoyed your company. ETOH intake? Really?"
"ETOH isn't an acronym. It's a…"
"Olivia, I know what ETOH is. I practiced law in the DA's office here in Santa Barbara for two years before I joined the company. Quite a few of those I prosecuted were charged with ETOH intake. You weren't hardly drunk but you were buzzed and feeling mellow. We all were. I think that last glass of wine you had while the rest of us were enjoying dessert got you extremely mellow. I like you mellow. You propositioned me outright when we got home. I loved it."
"I've been told by Darcy that I loosen up quite bit when I have more than a couple of glasses of wine. What did I do? I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary last night."
"You didn't do anything out of the ordinary Olivia. You were simply being yourself. Your guard was down a little. The minor change in you, it was subtle. I think I can safely say no one noticed it because your inhibitions weren't completely dropped until we got home. It's no biggie. You are always safe with me. I will always take care of you."
"I know. That's another thing I love about you. I had four or was it five glasses of wine. You poured them for me yourself. Were you trying to get me drunk so you could take advantage of me Mr. Grant? Because if you were, it was totally unnecessary. I'm easy when it comes to you. I love making out with you anytime, anywhere. Ply me with spirits at your own peril."
"Damn girl, you say the hottest things without really trying. And just like that, I'm hard! Let's jump into the shower and see what happens."
"Nothing is going to happen, Fitz. I'm not going up to the residence looking like we've been up to something. It shows when we've been together. Your lovemaking leaves me with a glow, a lot of tell, tell signs. Darcy came right out and told me the first time she saw me after we became lovers. She knew! She looked at me and said, 'Caro, that look on your face, I know that look! You've been fucking for hours, haven't you? And it was great, wasn't it?' She was right! I don't have much of a poker face when it comes to you and what you do to me."
Fitz was laughing out loud. That Darcy, she was a hot mess and thank God Olivia had her as a friend and confidante. She was a source of joy in Olivia's life and his! He was more than grateful for their close friendship.
"Okay, just a shower then. Tonight, all bets are off. When we get back here in the sanctity of our own place. I'm calling all the shots."
"No fair, you were solely in charge last time we were together. I want to decide what and how we do it tonight. I have a few surprises up my sleeve."
"I bet you do, Olivia Pope. You're full of surprises."
Fitz pulled her to him and kissed her soundly. Okay, there would be no morning sex, but he was still hard. He nestled his erection on her pubis and grinded into her. Would he ever stop wanting her so much? He doubted it! A quickie wouldn't do justice for what he wanted from her anyway. She was right. Tonight, they would both bring the heat. He ended the kiss and led her to the shower.
Fitz and Olivia got to the main residence before nine. However, they were the last to arrive. Jerry looked at his son, smiled, and looked at his watch. His son was cutting it close. Fitz and Olivia had followed the Christmas theme that Gabriella insisted on. Your outfit for the festivities had to include something noticeably red. Clothing, jewel, shoes, hair; it didn't matter as long as you wore something red.
Fitz had on jeans, white shirt, and a red vest. Olivia had on a white dress with white lace sleeves. She had on red sandals and a double-beaded red necklace hanging around her neck. She looked like a fashion model and so did her boyfriend. Olivia glanced around. All of Gabriella's guests including the children were on board. The red theme added to the gaiety and Christmas spirit of the occasion. Everyone seemed invested.
Olivia was introduced to the only couple she didn't know, the neighbors from down the street. Amalie introduced her stepchildren and that was that. Gabriella rung a small crystal bell and Christmas at the Grant's began. Obviously, Gabriella was in her element. She addressed the group of Christmas revelers with a gleam in her eye. She spoke of how long she had been doing this Christmas day celebration and how much it meant to her. She singled out her husband, his father, and her son. She was so happy to have them all under one roof again. She embraced Olivia and told her how happy she was to have her in Santa Barbara.
"My dear family and friends, the reason for the season is to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As an extension of that celebration, we are gathered here to exchange gifts, eat, drink and be merry. Thank-you, so much for coming. Merry Christmas!"
The gift exchange was about to happen. The younger kids were very excited. This wasn't their first Christmas at the Grants. They were enthused about what was to come. Olivia had excitement coursing through her as well. Christmas with Fitz' family, it made her smile. To be honest, she wasn't missing the Caymans that much. Her happiness at being here with Fitz was obvious. She had a glow.
"I'm so glad you're here with me Olivia. I'm thankful your schedule allowed it. Are you okay foodwise? The gift exchange could be sort of long. Your gifts are easily found under the tree listed under your first name. I know you see those huge alphabets around the tree. The problem lies in going around to thank everyone and peek at their bounty. It's actually a fun couple of hours. There will be some hors d'oeuvres floating about if you can't wait for Christmas dinner."
"Your mother apparently doesn't leave anything to chance. I fully expect this event to go off without a hitch. Gabriella is an excellent event planner. In fact, she seems excellent at everything."
"Yes, she is but she has help. She has someone on her staff to help her full time with these things. My mother is an incredible woman however I don't want you disillusioned Olivia. My mother leads a life of luxury. She's part of a very wealthy family, we all are. Our lives are lived to the fullest but there has always been people to assist us. We couldn't be who or what we are without those strong people that assist us.
People like Mandy, Mrs. Stoddard, mother's personal assistant, Hubert, head of security, my father's personal assistant, Lincoln, and Drey; the list is long. Money isn't everything but it's a lot. It's a tool that gives you an advantage. An advantage that most don't have. You should use it well. My parents taught me that. It's a tool that you use not to just enrich your pockets; you should also enrich your body, your mind, and the soul of your family. You should use your wealth to improve the world of those around you."
"Fitz, please don't think you need to explain your family to me. I know there will be a great deal of wealth on display today. I know that. I'm been shopping with you a couple of times, remember? I won't be overwhelmed. I won't be turned off by it. I love you and I've chosen to love your family. I embrace everything that entails. You and your family are very rich people. I also know that the Grants are great humanitarians and philanthropists. You're wonderful people. Stop worrying that there is some aspect of your life because you are privileged that will change what I feel for you. There isn't a chance in hell rich boy. You are it for me."
"Every. Single. Day. I fall more in love with you!"
He pulled her into his arms and kissed her with all the love he felt and she kissed him back. As usual they had blocked the world out and quickly arrived in one of their own. His father tapped Fitz on the shoulder to pull he and his girlfriend back into the present world.
"You already have a room son, so lighten up. It's Christmas! Let's make your momma happy and exchange some gifts."
"Yes, it's Christmas. I can't help being in a loving mood Dad. I love this woman!"
"I know that son. Everyone can see that very clearly. You two have fun."
"Come on Livvy, let's get our presents. We'll get mine first since F comes before O. Simple right? There's no drawn-out reveal. You get our gifts, go someplace and open then. Then you spend the next hour or so mingling and thanking each other for your presents. It's really a lot of fun. You'll see!"
"I see! It sounds like fun. Let's go."
"Let me grab a couple of gift bags we may need them."
Fitz' gifts just about overfilled the bag. Would he need two? Olivia was smiling and quite intrigued with the gift exchange process. She could see it was going to be fun. She could hear the younger kids screaming in delight. As it turned out Olivia filled up her own gift bag. The presents were all wrapped so beautifully. She was going to be hard pressed to even unwrap the pretty parcels in her bag. In fact, she felt like one of the screaming kids that had just run past her.
"Come on. I know a perfect place where we can unwind and unwrap our presents."
They didn't go far. They went through the huge kitchen hauling bags like two Santa's. "Hi Mandy, Olivia and I were wondering if we could use your office and sitting room for minute. Do your mind?"
"Of course not. Good morning and Merry Christmas. Olivia, so nice to see you again. I trust Fitz has been treating you well. You two look happy as larks."
"Merry Christmas! This has been a wonderful holiday so far. I can't complain about a thing. Fitz has been wonderful. The entire experience has been wonderful. And the food, my hat's off to you Miss Mandy. You're an excellent chef. Also, you've helped the Grant's raise a magnificent son. I feel extremely welcome here.
"I'm delighted things are going well. You two go on and open your gifts and enjoy your Christmas."
"Thanks Mandy."
"Okay how should we do this? Singularly or together. I'm so excited Fitz. I've never received a full bag of gifts for anything. I feel like I'm a little girl again instead of a grown woman. Also, it seems so wrong to open these beautifully wrapped gifts."
"Ladies first, you know that, Olivia. Unload your bag and open your gifts."
She poured her bounty out on the sofa and she sat down. She did look like a little girl sitting there with her bright smile. "Fitz, please help me now. I want to open your gifts first. I'm excited about all of them but your gifts will mean the most to me. Pull them aside. I want to know what you got for me."
"You're still being bossy Lady Olivia. You have been since you opened your eyes this morning. I like you bossy and feisty. Promise me you will reserve bossy and feisty for me tonight. Okay, let me see what in your bounty that has Fitzgerald Grant written all over it."
Of course, he knew what he had gotten Olivia for Christmas, every single gift. The most important one was in his vest pocket. It lay in a tiny velvet satchel surrounded by red silk. He picked out the gifts he had bought for Olivia and handed them to her.
He hadn't relied on Drey to purchase anything this time. Olivia hadn't voiced a negative thought recently but Fitz knew that she hadn't completely opened up to the part Drey played in his life. There wasn't a competition. He hoped that Olivia would become even more open to his assistant as she got to know her better. She had played no part in the gifts he had chosen for Olivia. They were all chosen by him especially for her.
Olivia was smiling like she had stolen something. She had all these gifts and they were all wrapped so beautifully. She'd had Fitz take a picture before she opened anything. Eventually, she started with his gifts. They were the most important ones.
She opened the largest box first. Inside was a beautiful black full-length gown. What made it exceptional was the crisscross straps in the back. The white straps were filled with hand sewn Swarovski crystals that came across her shoulders to become solid white in the front and form a veritable vee for her bosom. It was a beautiful Vera Wang creation. It was for the Black and White Ball they were attending where Jerry would receive an award. Fitz could easily imagine Olivia in that dress. She was going to be an absolute knock-out!
"I love it Fitz. For the Black and White ball, right? It's beautiful, thank-you."
The next largest box was light. Inside was a well-tailored white lab coat with her name emblazoned on it in red. It read Olivia Pope, MD. There was also a Littman stethoscope in the box, the very best money could buy. Her initials were engraved on it.
"Oh Fitz, this is so sweet. I will cherish these always!
Next, she opened a box that contained a very expensive looking jewelry set. It consisted of a beautiful pearl and diamond necklace, matching earrings, and bracelet in a gold setting. The necklace was exquisite and unique. There wasn't a doubt in Olivia's mind, her boyfriend had paid thousands of dollars for the set. Uncle Jim had given her lots of expensive pieces of jewelry over the years. Her parents had given her a very nice pearl necklace and earring set on her twenty-first birthday but nothing could compare to what she was seeing.
"Do you have any money left?"
"I do. Continue Lady Olivia."
Olivia shook the next box. There wasn't any movement inside. "What is it Fitz?"
"Open it and see."
It was an 11X14 color print in an intricate wooden frame. It was a selfie they had taken at The Point. They had been so happy after making love on the beach. Fitz had said she was as beautiful that day as he had ever seen her. Her smile had intrigued him. He was obviously very happy too. They had taken the selfie, loved it, and exchanged the photo. They both suggested they should frame it. Olivia was laughing out loud as she looked at the picture of them so happy and in love.
"What's so funny, Sweet Baby. I love that picture."
"I love it too. You will see! This is my last one from you and it's small. Is this more jewelry? What is it Fitz?"
"Open it and find out."
She unwrapped the small box and what she found inside made her do a double take. "Fitz, you didn't! The love and trust you have in me. It warms my heart. Thank-you for all of these wonderful presents. Especially this one. I'm not sure I know what to do with a such a treasure."
"Sign it Olivia and then simply pull out your Black American Express card and buy what you want."
"You are so good to me. I love you so much. Again, thank-you so much. I'm overwhelmed with joy and I've just opened your gifts." She got up from the sofa and hugged and kissed him. "I can't really put into words what spending this Christmas with you has meant."
"No more than I can. Merry Christmas Olivia! Come on, open the rest of your presents. I'll hand them to you. This one is from Papa Joe. Careful now, it's rather heavy." She opened the box to find a gold personalized desk plate with Olivia Pope, MD etched on it installed into an elegant piece of two by eight lead crystal. It was beautiful. So was the huge diamond brooch his parents had given her! It was shaped like a blooming rose. Aunt Amalie gave her the earrings that matched the brooch. The Bells had given Olivia a beautiful leather satchel. Gabriella's sister had given her a pair of fur-lined lambskin gloves and a matching hat.
"These are unbelievable gifts. Your family and their friends are so nice and they give such amazing gifts. Fitz, I'm humbled by these gifts. Honestly, I don't know what to say."
"Just say thank-you when you see your benefactors today. That's all they're expecting Olivia. Gift-giving is from the heart in this family. We simply want to see each other smile."
"I can't stop smiling. Every gift is so thoughtful. It's like every one of these gifts were bought with me in mind. Enough about me. We must move on to you. You are next. I hope you are as blessed as I've been. You're to open mine first as well. Open this one and you will see why I was laughing." He opened the box and there it was the same picture he had given her! The only difference was that she had placed her 11X14 photograph in a Swarovski crystal frame.
"You see we both loved the same picture and framed it as a gift for each other. It's amazing that we are so often on the same wavelength. That picture is a symbol of our happiness. It's so obvious that we were madly in love with each another that day! I wanted you to be able to see that love every day when we are apart."
"That's exactly what I felt too."
"What an amazing coincident. Continue Sir Fitz, open the rest of your gifts from me." He next opened a box that contained a three-pack of elegant ties and matching pocket squares. It was a special Tom Ford edition gift box.
"These are lovely Olivia. A man that wears a suit to work every day can never have enough ties. Thank-you. I love them."
Next, he opened a small box that held a pair of gorgeous cuff links. Fitz always wore links in his shirts. She had never seen him wear rose gold so she had bought him a pair. The rose gold surrounded an onyx square. They were very unique made by Bulgari. The cuff links alone had accounted for half of her spending. In her opinion nothing was too good for him!
"These are very sharp Olivia. I know just the suit, shirt, and tie to pair them with first time out. Thanks, Sweetheart.
"We agreed on five gifts each to one another. This is my fourth one. My final gift for you is back in the west wing. It's a surprise. I plan to give it to you later tonight. In the meantime, open this present for you. I hope you like it."
Inside of a beautifully decorated box lay a first edition hard cover of the original Kama Sutra. The book put a huge smile on his face. "It's a book that's mostly known for its pages of sexual positions. However, it's much more than that. The book has excellent language on how to maintain a loving relationship with a partner. It's not only about pleasure which is an integral part of book, it covers so much more. I thought of you and your ability to give me so much pleasure, so much of yourself. You should have this."
"You are right the book itself is about many things but the pleasure aspect will be good for us. You know that now we must try every position in the book."
"Of course, we must. That's one of the reasons I bought it for you, for us. I imagine you have had your own copy at some point?" Would there ever come a point when she wouldn't be jealous of every other woman that had known his touch?
"Actually no. I've seen and mulled through some chapters of futuristic versions some time ago but I've never had my own copy, let alone a first edition copy. Thank-you Olivia. Your gifts and thoughtfulness mean so much to me."
"I love you Fitz and shopping for you bought me such joy. Let's see what else you have."
"As you saw, I have some gifts labeled Fitz and Olivia. We are more or less considered a couple now. I hope you don't mind."
"Of course not. I'm very proud to be your girlfriend. I think your family and circle of friends know that."
"Without a doubt. I'll let you open those presents with both of our names on them."
She started with a small package from his parents. It was a one-week vacation in Paris staying at the Ritz. Olivia knew that the family had a home in the South of France nonetheless, it put a smile on her face but it was guarded.
"Fitz, this is a wonderful gift but when will I ever have time to go? It could be years before I get another week off."
"We're going to Paris Sweet Baby, whenever you can arrange it. There's no time limit on when we go. It can be actually be years from now. Remember, we have the tools and ability to make things happen. We will go to Paris, I promise."
Yes, they would. She had seen the two of them holding hands near the Eiffel Tower for a reason. Her life was going to be what it was supposed be. She was to have a life with Fitz and it was going to be a happy one.
She next opened a gift for them from Papa Joe. It was a private spar day for two at the Ritz-Carlton right here in Santa Barbara. Olivia could only imagine what a spar day entailed for the Grants. "How thoughtful of Papa Joe. I hope we get to go before I leave to go back East."
"I'll try to work it in Olivia. If we can't work it in, we'll simply fly back for the day and do it. A spa day with you would be heavenly. That's it for our dual gifts. This one is for me from Aunt Amalie." It was a relatively big box. Inside was a custom-made Armani suit. There was also a shirt and tie. "Aunt Amalie has a tremendous fashion sense. She's been dressing me since I was a small child. The woman has impeccable taste and style." The blue suit was remarkable. It would look gorgeous on Fitz. The tie matched his eyes.
The Bells had given Fitz a five-hundred-dollar gift certificate to the hometown bakery he had talked so much about. Their strawberry short cake was to die for Fitz had said. She wondered how much one cake would cost at the place.
"They know that I often have things from that bakery sent to the East coast. It's another very thoughtful gift. Wait until you try the Strawberry short cake. It's better than my mother's, but I don't dare tell her that."
Gabriella's sister had gifted Fitz with a beautiful pair of lambskin gloves and scarf. Apparently, they were well aware of the brutal winters that occurred in the Northeast.
"We did good Sir Fitz. We have some excellent bounty in those bags. What a wonderful Christmas this is. What do we do next? What time is Christmas Dinner? Did you hear my stomach just now?"
"It's been my best Christmas ever. Having you here means the world to me. I'm so glad you could come. I'm glad that you wanted to come. I know this is your first Christmas ever away from your family. The fact that your family is torn apart has to bother you. Yet you are here with me and you seem happy.
"I am happy Fitz, in spite of what is going on in the Caymans. I have to lead my own life now and that life is with you. Wherever you are is where I want be. We're a work in progress and we're going to make our relationship work. These eleven days are a fantasy. I know it won't always be like this. I want you to know Fitz that I've never been happier than I've been here with you and your family. Thanks for inviting me and sharing your Christmas with me."
"You are more than welcome. Now that I've plied you with gifts. I need to feed you. I did hear your growl. Did you want to go out there and have some of the fancy hors d'oeuvres floating around out there? Or would you rather just go into the kitchen and tell Mandy what you want to eat? The choice is yours Lady Olivia. It's Christmas!"
Her face lit up like a light. God, he loved those smiles of hers!
"Those late-night BLTs of Miss Mandy's are so good. I never really knew how much I loved bacon until you Fitz. Your affinity for it has been passed on to your girlfriend. I hope you don't mind."
"Of course not. Let's see if Miss Mandy can accommodate us. It's not even eleven o'clock and dinner isn't until four-thirty. A little light snack won't spoil it for us. Let's go to the kitchen."
Fitz and Olivia rejoined the Christmas gathering just before noon. Olivia was still licking her lips. That BLT and that special sauce Miss Mandy put it, simply delicious! The joy in the room was infectious. Everyone was having a great time. Kids were adorning helmets to go dirt bike riding on the property. The entire room was very busy.
"There you two are. Where did you sneak off to? I had told your father that you had kidnapped Olivia and taken her back to your rooms. We missed you. Have you opened your gifts yet?"
"We were in Mandy's office, Maman. This is Olivia's first Christmas with me, to be honest it's hard to share her but I will. We opened our gifts back there and we had a light bite to eat. We missed breakfast. We are here now and ready to mingle."
"Olivia, as you can see my son can barely bring himself to share you with us. He's always been possessive. So, how has your Christmas been so far? Are you enjoying yourself?"
"Tremendously Mrs. Grant. Everything has been perfect. I love your thoughtful gifts. Thank you so much for that lovely brooch; it's beautiful. And the trip to Paris, I've always wanted to go there."
"And now you shall. The minute I saw that brooch, I knew it was made for you. As for your thoughtful gifts, thanks so much. That leather purse feels exquisite. Thank-you son, I love the diamond bracelet. A girl can never have too much leather and too many diamonds in my book. Jerry is around here some place. The monogramed socks are something new for him. He loved them. Go find your father Fitz while Olivia and I mingle with our guests."
"You're in good hands Olivia. See your later."
"Olivia it's good to finally have some time for the two of us. How are you doing? I hope you don't mind that Fitz has told me about your problems at home. We do a lot of sharing around here. I imagine you are missing your family, especially your mother. How is she doing? I hope you've made contact with her at this special time of the year. Christmas shouldn't be spent alone if possible."
"My mother is well. We have a line of communication and I'm grateful for that. She is alone right now as my brother lives here in the US. She has left my father and is seeking a divorce from him. He's very resistant to change. He's accustomed to dominating my mother and his family. Things aren't moving along as my mother would like. She has declared her independence from my father and it has apparently shocked him. In fact, it's shocked most of us. It's a good and vital move for her, I think. I hope it moves forward.
I love my mother and my father still in some ways. I wish they could both be happy people. They can't be, not together. For as long as I can remember I've been a buffer for their marriage keeping them together and not really offering any solutions to their marital woes. Their union had long become a failure and was irreparable. I've stepped aside now. They're two grown adults that must work this out between them. I've given my mother what help she would accept. As for my father, he's lost in his own demented world. It sounds cold and callous but I refuse to buffer them anymore. I have a life to lead of my own.
As for me, I'm doing well Mrs. Grant. Your son has been my rock through this thing. He knows my entire family history and he still loves me. That's a good thing. He invited me here to share a loving Christmas with his family. So far it has been therapeutic and delightful. I've never seen a more gracious and kind family. I'm grateful to have been invited here.
Fitz' told me that you wanted to spend time with me. I'm glad that you do. I love your son very much. I can only imagine what you're feeling knowing Fitz and I have fallen in love so quickly. Our relationship is barreling forward at warp speed. I can hardly believe it myself but it has happened and it's real, the love between us. He's told me that because he chooses to love me, I could expect his family to love me too. To make a statement like that he has to know his family well and know that you love him unconditionally."
"Fitz is right. He knows his family. I haven't seen my son this happy since he was a young boy. You've returned joy to his life. How could we not love you? You and Fitz are a very good thing. Not to sound presumptuous but welcome to the family. I'm praying for your concerns down in the Caribbean. Your mother seems to be on the right track. No woman should settle for less than a man that cherishes the ground she walks upon. She'll find her way, Olivia. Perhaps she's stronger than you imagine. If you seek my counsel about anything, simply let me know.
Now in the meantime let us start anew. Let me show you our home and we'll talk and get ready for a wonderful Christmas dinner. Mandy has outdone herself. Come, walk with me."
Olivia and Gabriella had clicked back in November. Their easy camaraderie seemed genuine. They spent several companionable hours together. They toured the mansion, visited the kitchen. They viewed Fitz' boyhood room. They toured a small portion of the grounds. Olivia saw some pictures and short videos of Fitz' life. His high school, college, and law school graduation were all memorialized. Olivia was learning so much about the man she loved. She thoroughly enjoyed her time with Gabriella. They returned to the festivities understanding each other much better.
They found most of the Christmas guests in the library and billiard room. There were two pool tables and there were two games in full swing. Fitz and his father were the adversaries at one table. There was a serious game of bridge going in one corner of the room. The two tweens were at the video console. Olivia heard a beautiful rendition of White Christmas coming from the music room. Papa Joe was at the piano and singing along with Amalie. They were making beautiful music. It was a lively mishmash of things going on.
"My goodness! Those two, they sound fabulous. The talent within this family simply amazes me."
"Papa Joe is quite the pianist and Amalie has the voice of an angel. Usually, we have a fuller house at Christmas and they provide a full us with a small Christmas concert. Eventually you will get to hear one. I love the festivities of Christmas Olivia. Having my family together and happy, it's a great feeling for me.
I decided to keep Christmas small this year. Once Fitz told me you would definitely be here, I could hardly overwhelm you with another gala-like atmosphere. That experience will come later. I've really enjoyed myself this afternoon Olivia. It's been a pleasure getting to know you better. This is just the beginning of our relationship. I hope you will come to count me as one of your friends. Also, it's your call but I would be perfectly fine with you calling me Gabriella."
"it's truly been a remarkable afternoon. You made it most enjoyable. It was so delightful to learn so much about Fitz, the family as a whole really. This is going to be a great vacation."
"Do you play bridge Olivia. It's one of my passions. Jerry and I play whenever we can with friends. We haven't played recently because of the upcoming holidays."
"No, I don't play Gabriella. My best friend and I are adventurous every now and then. Our game of choice is gin rummy. I would love to learn though. Does Fitz play?"
"Does he? He's an excellent player. I'll teach you the basics and we'll challenge the menfolk. Are you interested in learning?"
"Definitely, especially now that I know that Fitz is a player."
"Hi ladies. How has your afternoon been? Did you get the Gabriella Garnier tour, Olivia?"
"I did. Your mother is a most gracious hostess. I've had a wonderful afternoon. Who's winning?"
"Me of course. I can beat this guy with a hand tied behind my back."
"He cheats Olivia. Totally bad form. Good afternoon, my heart. Are you enjoying yourself now that you've gotten to spend some time with Olivia? What about you Olivia? I had to remind your boyfriend that you were totally safe with his own mother. He's got it bad, I'm afraid. How much time before dinner. I'm hungry woman!"
"Jerry Grant, don't you start that caveman talk with me! You know very well that dinner will start promptly at four-thirty. I know Mandy has been serving little snacks throughout the afternoon. If you are hungry whose fault is that? We have more than an hour to turkey time. I'm going to check on things. I enjoyed your company, Olivia. See you at dinner."
"I'm enjoying myself immensely, Mr. Grant. I'm having a great Christmas. Thanks for your nice gifts.
"You're welcome. Continue to enjoy and don't let this be your last one with us."
"You win Dad. I forfeit. My other half is here. See you at dinner. Hi, Sweet Baby. How did it go, bonding with my mother. She's special, isn't she? What do you think of her and the place?"
"It was a remarkable afternoon. Your mom's very sweet. We had a great time together, I think. We discussed a lot of things. I got to see most of the immediate grounds. I saw the room you had before you moved to the west wing. It's beautifully decorated. I love the way the room still pays homage to you and your life here. Your parents love you very much Fitz. This house, this home, it's the epitome of warm and fuzzy. I love being here."
"I love that you're here, with me. We have some time before dinner. Walk with me. Let's step out on the terrace for a few minutes. I haven't seen you for several hours. I'd like to just hold you for a while."
They stayed out on the terrace for about twenty minutes just chilling, glad to be in one another's company again. Fitz suggested they walk around and thank their guests together for their gifts. They could mingle until dinner. The twins were in the same position they were in hours ago, in front of a Play Station. They managed to look up long enough to say thanks for the V-Bucks for Fortnite and new videos. Fitz and Olivia walked around sharing pleasantries and thanking people individually for their gifts. Not once did Olivia feel out of place as they walked about the mansion. She felt at home here.
At four-thirty on the dot Gabriella's voice came on the intercom system. Dinner was served! The guests all came into the dining room and sat down in front of beautifully hand-written name cards. This was the second time she had seen it done so well. Gabrielle Grant sat a beautiful table. And she knew exactly where to place her guests. Everyone, including the kids, were seated at the table ready to have an enjoyable Christmas feast.
Papa Joe stood up at the head of the table and thanked everyone for coming. A man of few words, he wished everyone a Merry Christmas and then deferred to his son. Jerry Grant sat at the other end of the table with his wife to his right and his son and Olivia to his left. He stood and basically said what his father had said. He was thankful for his family and friends. He gave a quick prayer of thanks and blessed the table.
"Papa Joe, Fitz, Gabriella, and I are so happy to have you here. Enjoy this wonderful meal. My beautiful wife she never fails to amaze me this time of the year. You are in for a treat!"
The meal was scrumptious. Even the kids were licking their chops. The meal was traditional with twists. Turkey with oyster stuffing, honey baked ham, Lemon-pepper crusted salmon, yams with pineapple, macaroni and cheese, roasted Brussel sprouts, roasted red potatoes, corn on the cob, house salad, and green beans with toasted pecans. Naturally there was the rich giblet gravy and homemade cranberry sauce.
Olivia found herself trying to taste it all and was stuffed very quickly! She pushed back from the table. The Grants and everyone else were still eating. She knew Americans were veracious eaters. She had seen that in her boyfriend. They were still talking though and it was lively conversation. They included Olivia in their banter and she was thoroughly entertained. When at last everyone sat back, full of turkey and all the fixings did guests start leaving the table. Far from finished they were simply moving to a dessert bar.
A variety of cakes, pies, cobblers, jelled concoctions, ice cream, and sorbets were being served. Her boyfriend asked her if she would like anything. She couldn't eat another bite. Fitz returned to the table with a dish of peach cobbler topped with vanilla ice cream. He polished it off with gusto. When he was finished, he and Olivia excused themselves. Would she like to tour more of the grounds? After a meal like that, he needed to walk at minimum. Of course, she would join him. She took his arm and they left the house.
His mother had shown her a lot but not all. It was a huge estate. They walked around with Fitz showing her things his mother had not. They ran into Amalie's step kids on their new dirt bikes being supervised by security. Fitz suggested that they return to the mansion and don some appropriate clothing and join them. It would be a cool way to burn some calories. He was serious! She rode a Harley after all. She was adventurous but no way could she get on a bike after that meal. She suggested maybe another day.
They walked around for more than an hour simply enjoying each other's company. Walking was good exercise. It was something Fitz did a lot when he was at home. How did Olivia feel about the pool gathering his parents were having later? Was she up to attending? If she wanted just to kick back, it would be fine. His parents would understand.
His mother had said she wanted everyone to join she and Jerry for get-together at the pool this evening. It wouldn't be as intimate as dinner. There would be close to twenty or more of their friends joining them tonight. They really didn't have to go! There would be food, live music, and knowing his mother, dancing. It was all up to her. Their attendance was optional.
Olivia looked at her boyfriend. Did he really think she was going to miss a pool party given by Gabriella Grant. No way! Plus, she hadn't been in the pool or the ocean since she arrived. She missed getting into the water. According to Fitz he hadn't asked his mother who would be attending but he was sure some of the rich and famous would be there.
The party was starting around eight. Olivia suggested that they hang out at the pool party for a couple of hours and then call it a night. This was to be a special night for them. Her boyfriend didn't know how special. Tonight, she would give Fitz his last Christmas present. She was on birth control and protected from pregnancy. Condoms weren't needed! Weeks ago, she had gifted him with her virginity and tonight she had yet another gift to bestow upon him. He would be the first man to know her intimately that way. And he would be the last! Having Fitz inside of her that way would be a seismic event! She had been imagining it for weeks.
She would get to wear one of her sexy new bikinis for a couple of hours before Fitz got to take it off of her. Their purposeful abstinence would end tonight. After Gabriella's pool party would be the perfect time to end their drought! Olivia had a big smile on her face. His mother's pool party was going to be a prelude to some good loving! Could she just magically go to a clock and place the hands on ten-thirty or eleven o'clock?'
Fitz had some pent-up frustrations too. He missed being with Olivia. He needed her touch. He had gone without for good reasons. He had been over zealous. He was trying to do the things he had planned while Olivia was here. It was too much! He couldn't incorporate all he had planned into eleven days. He couldn't show her parts of California during the day and then keep her up all night making love. He was accustomed to changing time zones and feeling no consequence. Olivia wasn't. He hoped that a plus twenty-four hour recovery period was enough for Olivia's time zone change syndrome. He wanted to make love to her for hours.
They had returned to the west wing. He had caught up on some business and Olivia had taken a beauty nap. He was now in the kitchen giving homage to a scotch on the rocks. It was his favorite drink and he had some of the best Scotch on the planet in his liquor cabinet. He often would unwind at the end of a day with the libation. He never drank to excess. To not be in control of one's faculties was folly. The Grant men all followed the principle when it came to alcohol. Olivia was dressing for the pool party.
He was wearing a Ron Dorff polo and swimwear with brown Birkenstocks. He'd gotten dressed and left the bedroom. Watching Olivia get into a swim suit was tempting fate. He was very needy right now! He had purposely left the room because he wanted them to even get to the party. If they were given an opportunity to start something, they wouldn't be leaving the west wing and he knew that. Besides, Olivia was excited about going to the party!
Olivia walked into the room and as usual she just about took his breath away. She was stunning in one of the bikinis they had purchased on Rodeo Drive. She had chosen to wear the black one. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail. She had on some stylish sandals and held a black beach wrap in her hand. She looked gorgeous.
"How do I look? I want to look my best tonight. I'm sure there will be people there checking me out to see what there is about me that holds your interest. I will be witty and smart but I want to look good as well. Your parent's friends are important too. I'd like to make a good impression. Should I opt for the one piece instead of the bikini? I'm starting to second guess what I should wear."
"You're kidding me, right? You wear what you want. I love you in that bikini. I chose that one, remember? I can't wait to take it off of you later. As to what other's think about as to why I pursued you, I could care less. And you shouldn't either. I love you, Olivia. You have nothing to prove to anyone."
"I know I'm being silly. It all of a sudden dawned on me that your mother is celebrated movie star and director. You were once married to a movie star. I'm thinking that I may be out of my element tonight. I'm thinking that someone may find me lacking. I'm thinking there could be a Margot Lily fan here tonight or even that horrible Jacqueline Rutherford person and her family."
"My sweet, Sweet Baby, stop it! That world has nothing at all to do with us. We exist in it, but my family, their friends, and my friends aren't about that. Everyone in the world knows that Margot Lily and I parted on bad terms. A friend of hers is very unlikely to show up here. The Rutherfords were off of any future Grant party list after their behavior at Grantiosity. I assure you that anyone my mother has invited here tonight is above the pettiness of Hollywood. If they weren't they wouldn't have received an invite. If by chance someone slipped through the cracks. I dare them to make you feel uncomfortable. They will be shown the door. You're with me tonight, Olivia. You are within the bosom of my family. Believe me when I tell you, that is a safe place to be.
I remember how you handled the Rutherfords at Thanksgiving. You are a very strong woman and even though you have your own personal knight, you and I both know that you really don't need one! There will be no problems tonight, Olivia. We are going to have fun and return here to love one another. Are we clear on that?"
"Of course. I was being silly. I think I'm excited about possibly seeing celebrities up close and personal. What you don't know is that your mother showed me her guest list. Fitz there will be A-listers at the pool party."
"Of course, there will be Olivia. My mother is an A-lister, I represent A-list clients, and many facets of Grant Global deal with celebrity clientele. Don't sweat it, Olivia. You will find for the most part, they are just ordinary people with fame. Mostly those that believe their own press and are probably strung out on something flaunt their status. Come on, you're with me. Let's go have a couple of hours of fun. Do you play pool volleyball? It's a mainstay of the Grant pool parties."
"No. I have played beach volleyball but I don't think they equate. Let me take a deep breath and let these jitters go. When I'm with you usually everything is right with my life. Tonight, won't be any different."
"No, it won't be."
The pool party was in full swing when they arrived. There was the usual California chill in the air. That fact had never stopped a pool party at the Grants. The pool was heated. There were strategically placed natural gas patio heaters all over the lace. The heaters blended well with the décor and only added to the ambience of the beautiful California night. Olivia right away knew she would be fine without her wrap. They arrived just before the volleyball game was about to start. It was obvious that they had been waiting for Fitz. He found Olivia a front row seat. Ever the gentleman he secured her a glass of wine, grabbed her something to nibble on, and he headed for the pool.
He was on his father's team. So was Gabriella and Amalie. It was co-ed. The opposing team was unknown to Olivia. The rules were stated and the game began. First team to reach 15 points was the winner. Boy was it competitive! It was like watching a professional match. Everyone out there was serious about their play.
In between watching the match Olivia was glazing around the patio looking for A-listers. She didn't want to be found staring so she mostly concentrated on the volleyball match. She thought she had seen a famous film director sitting a few seats down. Also, she thought she had seen Ellen and her wife in the pool before the match started. She was content to start gaze and watch her boyfriend pop up out of the water and hit a ball periodically.
Olivia wasn't surprised at all that the Grant's won. They were very serious about the game. There weren't any takers for a second match so Fitz came back up to Olivia dripping wet and asked her to join him for a swim. She wanted to. She went to the deep end and immediately dived into the water. Fitz was right behind her. They swam a several laps together. Then they huddled in the back of the Olympic size pool where there weren't many takers.
"The Grants looked good out there tonight. Obviously, the family is very competitive in the sport. Not to mention how good your mother and Amalie look in those bikinis. I find it hard to believe that both women are well into their fifties. They look gorgeous."
"Yes, we have a tendency to dominate the game. Notice we couldn't get a second match going. As for Maman and Aunt Amalie they are natural beauties, always have been. They take really good care of themselves. They stay out of the sun unless they are covered and when going to the beach they are slathered in sunscreen. Neither one of them have had cosmetic surgery. Which is commendable considering their professions."
"Natural beauty is real beauty. And yes, it is commendable. This pool feels wonderful. It's amazing that with the patio heaters and pool itself heated you can have a tropical-like paradise all year long."
"Heated pools and patios are a necessity here. Our nights are sometimes way beyond cool and chilly. They are cold. Are you alright? It still takes some getting used to the chill in the air."
"I'm fine. I love this atmosphere. It's like being in a cocoon. It's warm and fuzzy on the inside and chilly on the outside. What's next Sir Fitz? Are we still mingling? I think I've seen a few celebrities. This is some pool party."
"These things are always big hit. Did you want something else to eat. I put together just something for snack on for you. There's plenty of real food up there if you are hungry."
"After that Christmas dinner, I probably shouldn't eat again. I'm fine. What about you? That match was some workout. Are you hungry?"
Fitz was nibbling at Olivia's ear. She had locked her legs around him her hands sensually rubbing his back. He pulled her to him for another kiss. It wasn't just a kiss. It was a passionate kiss; a kiss filled with promise.
"I'm only hungry for one thing right now and that's you. Let's say our goodbyes and head back to the west wing. I need you, Olivia."
"I need you too."
"A couple of laps to get me presentable to leave the pool and we're out. Does that sound like a plan?"
"It does indeed."
They exited the pool. They went to one of the cabana areas, got some fresh towels and dried off. They spoke to several people as they moved toward a gate that would take them where they wanted to go. Their immediate goal was to find his parents and grandfather to say goodnight. Fitz purposely stopped by the table where Ellen and Portia were sitting. Apparently, Fitz knew them well. He introduced them to Olivia and wished them a fun rest of the evening. He also ran into a literary client of his and exchanged pleasantries. When finally, he saw his parents taking to Jamie, it put a smile on his face.
"We're calling it a night a guys. Hi Jamie. Good to see you again. Allow me to introduce my girlfriend, Olivia Pope. She visiting from back East."
"Pleased to meet you, Olivia. I was told I might not get to meet you because Fitz was keeping you to himself. Good to see you again my man. It's been what six months ago since I saw you in New York. I hope Fitz is showing you the best we have to offer while you're here."
"I'm pleased to meet you as well. I've been a fan of yours forever. I truly admire your work. As for Fitz and his family, they are excellent hosts."
"It's been a full day for us. Unfortunately, Olivia is still suffering from a bit of West coast fatigue. We're about to call it a night. Jamie, call me next time you are in NYC. We'll do lunch. Maman, Dad, we'll see you guys tomorrow. Most likely not until lunchtime. Have you seen Papa Joe around? I haven't been able to spot him."
"Dad turned in early. He's planning to attend church services tomorrow. I'm glad you two decided to join us tonight. We see you tomorrow."
"Yes, we're glad you came. Olivia, you are quite the swimmer. I saw you neck and neck with Fitz when you two were doing laps. Excellent form. I have a water aerobics instructor here on Wednesdays. He puts me, Amalie, and some of the neighbors through a vigorous workout. If you haven't any plans, please join us at nine sharp. Enjoy the rest of your evening."
"Thanks for the invite, Gabriella. I'd love to join you. I love the water and I usually do some form of daily exercise. It was a delightful party. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. We'll see you guys tomorrow, goodnight."
They headed to the gate. "Thornton, would you please have a cart send around for us. We've done enough walking for today. Please make sure there's a blanket in the cart."
"Right away, Mr. Grant."
They were at the west wing in minutes. During the ride Fitz had gathered her in his arms and wrapped the blanket around them. He placed a kiss on their entwined hands. "I love you Olivia, more than anything."
"I know you do, and I love you back, more than anything."
They entered his place and he bolted the door. She stood there waiting. He turned and looked at her. "First we shower milady and then I will fulfill my promise to you."
"And you, Sir Fitz, never break your promises. Let's head for the shower." They entered the huge bathroom. They both dropped their swimwear to the tiled floor. Olivia removed the band that held her pony tail. Curly wet ringlets fell about her face and shoulders. She looked at him and smiled. Her boyfriend was so damned good-looking. He made her heart beat so fast. He stood there holding her gaze, uninhibited and proud. He was long, thick, and hard, all for her! He looked good enough to eat. Meanwhile his breath had caught in his throat. Her body was lush. Her perfect perky breasts and her bushy triangle enthralled him. Would he ever not be awed by her beauty? She was a fucking vision and he meant that figuratively and literally.
"Come with me."
"Go start the shower. I'll be right there."
"Hurry."
Olivia went to her brand-new jewelry case and found the piece that she wanted. She stood in the mirror and placed the diamond and ruby choker around her neck. Sometimes visions had to be helped to fruition. She walked through the huge bathroom to the shower. Water was pouring into the area from the two shower heads. He turned when he heard her.
"You wore it for me."
"I promised I would. I never break my promises either."
"Let's get this chlorine off of us." She joined him under the cascading water. "Hair first, bodies last. I'm thinking we dedicate no more than five minutes to a quick wash and rinse. I know you wash longer and usually do more with your hair. I prefer that you don't tonight. Tomorrow morning, I will wash and condition your hair myself. I can't wait tonight, Livvy. Is that alright with you?
"I'm good with that. You have the reins first. However, I can't promise I will let you keep them."
He held up her shampoo and got his from the shelf. "Thank-you for your understanding. As soon as we finish our shampoo, we cleanse each other. I wash you and you wash me. I can't wait to touch you, Olivia. I hope you want to touch me too."
"More than anything. I especially want to touch you here." One small hand reached out surrounded his phallus. She slowly pumped him. His intake of breath was sharp and harsh. He slowly pushed air back out of his lungs. Then he made that very familiar hissing sound as he looked down between them.
"You had best save that type of activity for last Olivia or I promise you neither one of us will get clean. You can't possibly know how much I want you."
"Yes, I do. You want me just as much as I want you. Let's wash."
The lovers washed their hair and then each other. It was extraordinary foreplay. They stood face to face, he stood behind her, she stood behind him. They soaped and lathered each other. He washed her breasts, her tush, her buttocks. He paid homage to her belly and back. He sensually went the length of her arms and legs, cleaning her. She followed his lead, cleaning him everywhere. Finally, he declared them clean. They both were red hot when they stepped under the shower heads to rinse. Afterwards they used towels to blot the water from their hair. Olivia was about to get another towel to dry off her body when Fitz stopped her.
"This is where we will start, I want you in here Livvy. Lie on the massage table. Let me rub some emollients onto your skin just the way you do yourself before you leave the shower. I told you. I want to touch you, a lot. I've missed you."
"Do I get to rub oils on you? I want to touch you too."
"Of course, you do. As much as you want. We are creating a prelude to something special tonight. It's Christmas Livvy. I want you to remember our first Christmas together. I don't plan for you to ever forget it."
Without hesitation she climbed the few steps up to the table. "Front or back first?"
"Back." She laid down on the table. Her brown eyes were dilated appearing almost black as she peered into his stormy gray ones and said, "Touch me."
