AN: Greetings all, my sincerest apologies on the delay of updates. I found myself traveling out of state and country a couple different times this year. Nonetheless, I am back for regularly scheduled updates.
And the plot thickens.
Sesshomaru closed the door of his bedroom, after changing, leaving behind a barely clothed Rin in his bed. He had not answered her question, but simply instructed her to lie down and that he would return. He saw, exiting, her eyes drenched in utter contentment. This girl. He had not expected to find his heart, and even his body drawn toward every bit of her. Never did he deem it worthy to entertain the idea of submitting himself to another. Especially a human girl. But that was his nature. To imagine that he, of all people, would ever entertain the thought. Yet, she had become, undoubtedly and irrevocably, his weakness.
As he reached the long end of the bottom of the spiraled staircase, off to the left, he overheard the chattering of both his parents. There was a time when he righteously disdained his father for leaving his mother.
The time away he spent at the castle. The pungent stench of a human woman all over him. He was no fool. At once he learned some centuries ago that the Great Inutaisho had fallen for a human, he was discomposed.
It was… unspeakable.
Nevertheless, both his mother and father admitted that the marriage was strictly political. Inukimi herself was, in turn, completely indifferent towards it all; seemingly bored of the conversation entirely. Therefore, he surmised, that it was useless to squander precious time towards it any longer.
"Sesshomaru. Come, sit." He heard Toga command.
As he walked over to sit, albeit reluctantly, he found himself seated directly in front of Toga with InuKimi over to his left. He turned slightly, finding his mother eying him curiously. "I see you are still here, mother."
"So many centuries and now out of all times, you decide to mark a human. That half-demon I was sure of but, you son? Following in the steps of your fath..."
"Kimi," Toga interjected. "Explain to him please, of your interpretations."
She had her eyes fixed on Toga for a moment, then finally turned to her son, now speaking entirely in Japanese, "There is a great force waging war against us. A force of the likes at which we have ever in all our time have known."
Sesshomaru said nothing; to which she took as his sign for her to continue. "You see, this gift she has. From what I can ascertain, it does not defy any known logic."
"Explain." He demanded.
"She is indeed human but the ability she has been granted is not of this world. Prophecy is one skill the humans claim to have since the beginning of time. This is the first time that I can confirm it to be a true possibility."
"But does not prophecy predict the future? It seems that she has also predicted the past." He probed.
"As it would appear, not all of the visions originate from the same source."
Sesshomaru stared at his mother questionably.
"Within the mediō stone, I saw a woman carrying quite generously who happen to have the eyes of that of your human. Her time with child then, was especially grueling. This pregnancy was different. She became well acquainted with the inside of a hospital," InuKimi recalled. "At some point the mother was faced with a choice to terminate the pregnancy as it was becoming much to dangerous to bare. Yet, somehow, she was able to safely complete the pregnancy. Humans, they are quite resilient fertile beings," she continued, turning over toward her son. "Are they not?"
"InuKimi!" Toga roared.
"Upon the birth of the human child, there rested a glimmering light at the center of its forehead," she continued. "Soon after, the light faded into the skin."
"What or who is the source of this light?" Sesshomaru probed further.
"Perhaps it is in relation to her visions. That is my assumption," she answered nonchalantly. "However, I have known of no such knowledge in all my years. Odd girl."
Sesshomaru said nothing, staring blankly ahead.
"However, there is more to what is to be known." Toga added, gesturing for InuKimi to conclude.
"There is a darkness edging it's way towards her. It's plots are calculated. As if it is more aware of what she has much more than we are. There is a master behind the puppet."
"And is there any legitimacy to it all?" Toga inquired.
"Perhaps. Rin has seen a possible future. One where the end of all that we know, will likely cease to exist. Depends on if you can protect your little human. Did it ever cross your mind that she would in fact hate what we are?"
Sesshomaru huffed, "It's inconsequential."
"This darkness may have an association with everything that has transpired with the snake demons." Toga surmised.
"With all suggestions on the table, I would wager it has accessed her dreams as well, considering the other source," Sesshomaru added. "Attempting to paint me as a monster that she should fear."
"If that be true, then of what I have witnessed, your destinies are joined together in some part of this." Inukimi too surmised.
"And if they are successful in their quest..."
"She would leave him, thereby stopping the visions." Toga assessed.
"Which in turn would leave us blind, heading straight toward that possible future." Sesshomaru concluded.
"And that other human girl. She will keep Inuyasha's heart, reminding him of the shared purpose to sustain humanity," InuKimi added. "After all this time, it seems that a world with human and yokai is the only means to sustain us. Otherwise everything else will fall apart. You must inform them of everything. Who we are and what is after not only us or them, but the rest of anything decent."
"But if there is a master behind the veil, how then will we find and put a stop to it?"
Toga smiled and concluded proudly, "Through our unity with the humans. It seems that, that is what they are after. Love truly conquers all."
Rin, lying in the bed of Sesshomaru's, managed to gather up enough of the wrinkled blankets to cover her barely clothed body. Her eyes, fixed on the flat white surface of his ceiling. Her thoughts, however, lingered over the feral intensity within his eyes that mercilessly possessed her entire being, sending her over the edge almost immediately.
Her fingers, unconsciously caressed the grooves of her lips; reminiscing over how tight he had crushed her to him. How badly her inner walls had craved to know just what that massive-tempting bit of himself could possibly feel like. God, would she lose her mind over it. Would she forever be his. The mere thought of him, releasing himself deep within her-…
She quickly cupped her hand over her lips, stifling a little giggle. Everything had transpired in haste. A moment that could not wait. How then, she pondered, could she seduce him; because at this moment, as she had realized, there was absolutely no turning back.
She had to know him. In every possible way there was to know of what he was entirely. He had possessed her. Consumed her whole, leaving behind no other reason to want. So it was true then. The possibility to possess in another person every possible desire her heart had ever needed.
Wanted.
Begged for.
She had not noticed the level of fatigue that had crept over her eyes as her lids grew heavy, or the amount of time that passed in Sesshomaru's absence. But at some point he had returned, silently easing his way into bed. The corners of her lips upturned at the arriving warm scent of the very one who invaded her thoughts.
"Rin." The timbre of his voice, low and deep, reminding her dampened center of who was solely responsible for it all. If only he knew of how deep-seated her obsessions were for him. She was more than sure now, of how in love she truly was.
Madly.
Rin turned over to see in his eyes-fraught with longing fused with solicitousness and regard for… her. His eyes silently stilled over hers. And again she was breathless at his golden gaze.
"Come here," he commanded, quickly breaking her from her reverie. She shifted over toward him and in an instant he had her on his lap, chest to chest, as his slender fingers grasped the back of her head. Holding her dearly like a small child. "I will make every conscious effort to protect you Rin. All I need from you is your uncompromising trust."
She slowly lifted her head to observe his expression as those words that had spilled out of him were palpably angst. What could possibly render him so apprehensive. As she had learned, it was rather difficult to read him. But his eyes never lied. "And you have it," she replied assuredly, her arms that were now draped over his shoulders repositioned backward so that her fingers cupped behind his ears. Her confidence now reaching unknown heights. "Undoubtedly."
She watched as his eyes drifted toward her lips and her breath hitched all but for a second as he slowly parted his lips over hers. Her fingers still behind his ears began guiding his head in which ever direction she chose, taking over the kiss; invading the inner warmth of his mouth. She felt his hands slowly travel down her waist covered in the remains of her half torn dress, down toward her hips that instantly jerked at the swelling of his hardened erection. His hands squeezed over her cheeks again, forcing her to feel his length with her risen bud.
"Sesshomaru…," her voice weak, breath heavy with want. His mouth now suctioned over the most sensitive spot of her neck. "I want you, please."
She heard him grunt lowly as a free set of fingers found their way up toward her breast, squeezing over the hardened flesh of her nipple. "Sess…," she uttered breathlessly. Her inner walls throbbing and aching now- drenched copiously with desire. His other hand found its way within the center of her thighs, spreading them, where all of her lay bare for his exploration. His thick fingers slowly glided over her clitoris and she reflexively swung her head back, crying out in ecstasy. Only to find her hand covering her lips as she felt him fill her with two of his fingers.
Instantly her hand was removed from her face- fingers interlocking with his free hand that now abandoned her swelled breast. "Let me hear your want for me Rin," he demanded in haste; his desire splitting through that impenetrable façade. "Let me in."
Her dripping walls tighten around him in response. Her voice betraying her through fragmented moans as he thrust his fingers as deep as they could possibly go. His body, growing hot to the touch, held her in place. His eyes, now scorching red, locked on the soft contours of her neck. Her jugular vein pulsating rapidly there. Her fully erected breast rebounded at the weight of them. The curvature of her waist so perfect in his eyes. The way her tightness eagerly suffocated his long fingers. He was near drooling like a mad dog, burning for her need of him.
His need for her.
"Tell me you are mines." He demanded roughly as his fingers tirelessly quickening in speed.
"Uhh, yes…" She cried.
"Tell me!" He roared, unlocking his other hand from hers-pressing her forward to meet him eye to eye by the nape of her neck.
"I… I'm yours."
"Look at me!" He commanded.
At once her eyes met his fiery ones, the bottom half of her mouth dropped wide open as a silent cry released from her lips. She dug her fingers deep at his shoulders as she intensely convulsed under his control. Her body shuddering in his arms, pulsating in total rapture. Soul lost in his possessive piercing gaze.
She collapsed onto his chest, breathing wildly through pants. He nuzzled his face in her long wavy hair, inhaling deeply- fighting with his inner yokai of the test of patience. He was sure the rest of the house had heard but he was far too drunk off of the scent of her pleasures to care.
"You are mines," he heard her gentle, weakened voice utter. "Forever."
If only she knew the meaning of those words and what they meant to someone like him. "And I will give you forever Rin."
She lifted her head up at him, warm liquid filling underneath her eyes. "You promise?"
"With my life."
She brushed her lips over his, unable to control the outflow of tears wetting her cheeks. "Sesshomaru, I love you. You have me."
He pulled her head down underneath his chin and tucked a strain of her soft hair behind her exposed ear. "Rest now, Rin. The day has been long for you."
She obeyed, curling up in a fetal position; finding that all of any remaining energy that she had left vanished away.
She was home. Now in a place she had never known could possibly exist.
Today was especially warm. The skies were clear as the afternoon sun baked the open streets of the newly established strip mall. Rin entered the doors of her favorite scrubs store, greeted by the cheery face of Ayame; a longtime acquaintance of hers.
"So you finally decided to grab a set of our number one sellers?"
"I am," Rin admitted, reaching for a pair of the all-white cotton scrubs. These in particular were designed to hug at the waist, accentuating the natural curves of the hips and butt. The thought of Sesshomaru seeing her in these. "And they still fit the guidelines of our program."
"Hot nurse alert!" Ayame cheered.
"Oh, stop it," Rin giggled, caressing the soft fabric in her arms.
"Come on over." Ayame motioned before accessing the flat screen of the register.
"Heard Sams closing up shop." Rin stated, placing the scrubs on the counter.
"And where exactly did you hear that?" She asked, pausing midway of her typing, astounded.
"Ya' know… campus gossip."
"I swear it's almost impossible to keep a secret in this city," Ayame chuckled, rolling her eyes. "How's everything going with you and-…" she paused, reaching for the buzzing of her cell phone. "Oh, one sec Rin."
Rin smiled and nodded, turning her attention towards the front entrance. The skies above had darkened significantly. The bustling of shopping customers outside the glass doors appeared in somewhat of a frantic. 'What time is it?' She thought, realizing right away that only a couple minutes had passed.
"This has to be a joke right," she overheard by Ayame screech. "Oh… okay, okay. But I can't just leave work."
"What's going on?" Rin, confounded, observed the perturbed face of her old friend. "Ayame!" Rin quickly darted her eyes back towards the door after hearing the piercing screams of others outside.
"Oh my God, okay… on my way," The color in Ayame's face paled over and she held in her eyes a sense of unimaginable terror. "Rin, head home. Right away."
Rin stood there, aghast, still as a stone. "Whatever for?" Ayame, preoccupied with gathering her things, had not answered her. Suddenly, outdoors, was complete and utter chaos. Everyone around seemed to drop everything that they were doing. Shopping bags cluttered the grounds, mothers reaching for their children, food abandoned at tables, and the screams of dozens around filled the darkening afternoon sky. Rin stood there, frozen in time it seemed, mouth agape, at what exactly was going on.
"Rin, those things, they're attacking the plaza. Come on!" Ayame, already standing at the door, motioned for Rin to follow. Seeing that she had not moved from her spot, an obvious shock, took one step towards her. "Those demons, are out there!"
Rin, finally taken out of her reverie, looked over to Ayame. "Dem-…" Straight away, a gale rushed in, shattering the glass doors wide open as shards of itself soared through the air. Rin instinctively covered her face with her arm, tumbling over on the cold floor as many of the shards pierced through her arm and side. A sharp searing pain ached on that exposed part of her body. "Uh, ow," After slowly lifting herself to sit, she blinked her eyes clear of her blurred vision. There, face down, laid the still body of Ayame near the entrance. "Ayame?"
Suddenly she felt the ground quake beneath her. Her heart began picking up speed, allowing adrenaline to pump vehemently through her, numbing the pain she felt all over her body. "Ayame?" She called out again. This time she heard her groan lowly, "Are you okay?" Ayame began coughing and Rin positioned herself to stand only to pause midway, stunned in place at what appeared to be and an unnaturally large, dark green colored… "SNAKE!"
It turned quickly to face her. It's eyes slitted down the middle, blackness colored the sclera, a bright carmine filled the irises, and a sinister mustard yellow studied her through the pupils. Fear was a total understatement. She was petrified, trembling violently, breath shaky, palms soaked in sweat and blood.
The snake bowed low, sniffing at the semi-conscious body of Ayame. She couldn't speak, shock settled in the depths of her mind. The massive creature began stretching its mouth open, heading straight for the head of Ayame. She was shaken, hearing in the distant her name being called repeatedly.
"Rin. Rin! RIN!"
She opened her eyes, seeing a pair of worried honey golden eyes on her. "Sesshomaru?" She reached to feel over her wet stained cheeks, realizing that she had already been crying.
"You were dreaming again, tell me what happened." She heard him say.
Rin quickly realized that she was in the same surroundings the night before. "Oh my God, that… That was a dream?"
"You have not left this bed."
Rin covered her lips and bewilderment. Whispering underneath her hand, "That felt so real."
"What happened?" He asked again, rather anxiously.
"There was," she uttered, hands shaky. "Snakes. Giant snakes. They were attacking the plaza downtown."
"Come," he demanded, grabbing her by the hand. "Put this on."
Rin reached for a dark blue kimono presented to her. "Why, what's happening?"
"Urgent family meeting."
Several days had passed. Sesshomaru, Inuyasha, and Toga had instructed Rin and Kagome at this time to keep her dreams and newly found knowledge of their family a secret. Although she had been informed by InuKimi that she somehow had a special gift, she was still unsure exactly what that actually meant. Since the meeting, they were also instructed by the Inu-family they were actively working with law-enforcement to prevent any more disappearances. But the nights had grown quiet without Sesshomaru. Their time away for what he had described it as, hunting, left Rin feeling, well honestly, even more confused. Yet still, her trust in him and even his entire odd family, had not wavered. She was glad, at least, she had someone to share these newly found troubles with, Kagome.
Rin sat on the Amtrak, minutes away from her apartment dorms. The hours of the day had gotten away from her and the darkness of the night painted the skies. Today she made it a priority to go see Ayame at her shop, reassuring that everything was fine. But, somehow she knew, from this moment on, that nothing in her life would ever be the same.
Approaching her stop, Rin stepped off the train into the cold night air. It wasn't necessarily unusual for her to walk home this late, but as of recent, she would be quick to arrive home. Constantly observant of her surroundings. Her calls and text were not replied to right away from Sesshomaru as of late, but she knew he would ensure that she was safe.
Only a few blocks away from her destination, she noticed that there was a peculiar shift in the atmosphere. The way the wind rustled the tops of the trees, the quality of the air drew thick as the temperature dropped to shivering degrees. She picked up her pace with only the sound of her flat shoes echoing off the ground.
"Ah, ow." She turned, hearing the distressed voice of someone nearby within the bushes. "Can someone please, please help me?"
Rin quickly looked around her to see if there were any other onlookers nearby to assist. After realizing that they were alone, she would assist at least because, of course, she did pledge an oath to abide by the Samaritans law.
She crouched down low and began assessing him. "Sir, are you okay?"
The man who looked to be in his early twenties, lie there holding his head in his hand. His clothing was a bit disheveled and stained with smudges of dirt and grass. "I fell down. I think I hit my head."
Rin immediately smelled the fresh scent of blood and began acting quickly. "Here, let me see," She opened her cell phone, flashing a light towards him. His eyes were closed and there was a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. He looked to be in a great deal of agony. There was a small cut on the left side of his forehead, which seem to be the source of the bleeding. "It's okay, it's just a small cut," she rummaged through her purse for a small napkin and begin applying pressure to that area. "I will call the police. Everything will be fine."
The man began cackling, "And aren't you a rather kind human."
"What?" Rin, assuming that the young man was indeed partly delirious from the fall had not removed her hand from his forehead.
Before she could react, he had his tight grasp around her wrist. At the same time he open his eyes wide, revealing the exact eyes of what she had seen in her nightmare. "Ahhhhh…" she screamed, managing to jerk herself out of his grasp, falling flat out on her butt. She had an eerie sense of déjà vu. She closed her eyes tight, and began whispering, "it's just a dream. It's just a dream."
"Not so, dear Rin." He chillingly spoke.
Rin quickly stood to her feet, taking several steps back away from what her eyes could not believe she was seeing. He was still a man, though, but in his eyes was nothing but pure evil. "What do you want from me?"
He opened his mouth wide and a long splitting tongue slithered out of him. "Just a taste, pretty one. I promise, you won't remember a thing."
She instinctively screamed as loud as she possibly could. Terror settled in as she then realized her nightmares were becoming a reality.
In an instant, the wind was knocked right out of her chest as she was knocked over again, hard on the ground. There was someone here, slightly familiar, that was presently on top of her, shielding her from the slithering man-creature.
"Rin, stay here. Stand back."
Rin opened her eyes to see her savior, however it was the least person she had expected.
Next chapter is already partly written...
