CHAPTER THREE
Everyone with eyes could see that Cristina was angry, she was mad. She was so angry that her face was turning red and her veins were visible as she tried to pry her arms from Alex and Lexie who were holding her back, trying to calm her down as a crowd was starting to gather around them, interested to know the cause of the surgeons sudden outburst.
The floor was suddenly quiet, no one dared to speak. It wasn't unusual for the dark haired surgeon to be harsh but never had she been physical with anyone. Everything was still, no one moved as if waiting for another bomb to drop. If the people were being honest they already expected this, the drama, an outburst, it was inevitable especially with the rumors going around the hospital, rumors that involve the red cheeked neurosurgeon and a certain blonde surgeon that is obviously absent. What they didn't expect though was what the young surgeon said.
"She left because of you…"
Gasps could be heard all over the floor, and a few whispers from the staff around them, especially those who were just in the OR with Drs. Avery and Sloan. This just proved their speculations to be true, that indeed the Dr. Grey had left the hospital, the city to be exact.
"I knew you from the start that Meredith deserved better than you. I kept telling her that you would only drag her down, that you would only hurt her." Cristina said still trying to get free from the hands of her friends. "She would tell me to trust you because she loves you, she loved you so much that sometimes it hurts to see her put your happiness first before hers." Tears were now threatening to fall from her eyes, but these weren't tears of sadness, because in fact she was happy that finally her person was choosing herself, these tears were out of frustration and anger.
"W-what do you mean she left?" Derek replied, not understanding Cristina's words as he was still in shock from the news of his wife's, well ex-wife, well ex post-it wife's departure. "Meredith left? Where did she go—" he was cut off by the young surgeon before he could finish his question.
"I don't know where the hell she is, but I hope she's far away from the likes of you!" Cristina said, finally freeing herself from Alex's grip. She took a step closer to Derek and whispered with such viscousness "and even if we did know, what right do you have to know?"
"I am her husband!" Said Derek, now also getting hot headed from all the shit being thrown at him even if he knows that he deserved it. He was now being held back by Mark who has walked towards them when Cristina moved closer.
A sarcastic laugh can be heard from the dark haired woman, shaking her head in disbelief. "You should have thought of that when you were fucking your scrub nurse."
Then dead silence, even Dr. Bailey, who would usually reprimand the surgeons for creating a scene in the middle of the surgical floor, was quiet, unable to speak due to shock and also anger that she felt for the brainless neurosurgeon. She may not admit it to anyone, but she cared deeply for her past interns, especially one Meredith Grey.
The silence was broken by the loud voice of chief Webber. "DR. YANG! MY OFFICE NOW! Everyone get back to work, we have lives to save!" Cristina glared at Derek before turning on her heel to walk towards the chief's office, followed by Alex who was fighting the urge to punch Derek and Lexie who was now crying silently. Mark wanted to comfort Lexie but stopped himself after seeing her glare at him lightly.
It was quiet for a moment until they heard the nazi shout for them to do their work. Everything seems to return back to normal, well as normal as things could be. The whispers were still there, especially after Dr. Yang's last words. Derek Shepherd stood in the middle looking embarrassed and defeated. Mark faced his best friend and shook his head while saying "You really fucked up big time Shep." Then he walked away still shaking his head, wondering to himself where his fellow dirty mistress was.
Miranda Bailey was next to confront the dark haired neurosurgeon "She's right you know. You lost all the right you had the moment you entertained a woman that wasn't your wife, even if you're not legally married." She then walked away muttering about how a world renowned neurosurgeon could be so stupid and brainless at the same time.
Jackson, who was watching from the sidelines, immediately reached for his cellphone to send a quick text to Meredith about needing to talk about something and to call him once she got to her apartment, not forgetting to tell her that she made the right decision to leave the state.
Unbeknownst to them a certain surgeon was also texting another surgeon about what just happened a few seconds ago.
She was walking towards a table at the lounge with her coffee in one hand and her purse on the other. She was exhausted from her seven hours long surgery, she wasn't able to rest as she needed to be at the airport for her flight to New York.
Her feet were killing her especially after going through security and checking in her luggage, she guess heels were impractical to wear when rushing through the airport. She sat down on an empty booth and sipped on her coffee when her phone rang, she opened her purse to grab it, when she heard a familiar voice.
"J-Jackie…"
Confused she looked around the lounge for a familiar blonde only to see no one. What she failed to notice was the blonde woman occupying the booth behind her. Her thoughts were interrupted by the ringing of the phone that was still in her hand. She looked at the screen to see the name of the caller and then smiled before answering.
"Hello?" She said, waiting for the person on the other side to talk.
"Addison! Are you at the airport already?" Asked the person as the redhead was once again sipping her coffee as she is in deep need of caffein especially after such an exhausting day.
Smiling at the smell of brewed coffee she replied to the caller "Yes Callie, I just arrived at the lounge a few minutes ago." Addison was now taking another look at her surroundings as she leans back on her chair. "Okay that's good. Are you sure you can't stay for the night? We barely talked earlier when you were here!" The Latina questioned with a sigh.
The redhead chuckled at her friend's antics "You know I cant, I want to but I cant. I'm needed for an emergency consult at New York tomorrow and besides its not like you cant call me when you need to talk and don't forget you also have other friends there." Taking another long sip at her drink as she waits for her flight to be called.
She heard a grunt from the other woman "But talking to you in person is different, and yes I know I have other friends buuuut your my best friend! Besides Meredith is busy with fellowship meetings and she's not herself lately so I can't talk to her right now, that woman I swear is always in some kind of trouble." This caught Addison's attention, she then realized that for the whole day that she spent at Seattle Grace Mercy West, she never saw the petite surgeon anywhere.
Brows furrowing she asked "Meredith? What happened to her? I haven't seen her all day." She absentmindedly placed her coffee cup down, losing interest on the drink as she became curious about her ex husband's wife(?), well if you call a post-it marriage really a marriage, but whatever floats their boat.
"Haven't you heard through the gossip mill? Her and Shepherd are having love problems, something about a scrub nurse or something" the orthopedic surgeon told Addison. "A scrub nurse?" Asked the redhead, as she leaned on the table. The last time she heard about a scrub nurse that got involved with the McCouple was the McRebound, Daisy, or was it Sunflower? Lily? She doesn't remember and honestly she doesn't care about the flower girl and besides that was ages ago. All she cares about is Meredith… not Derek but Meredith.
'What's wrong with them now? What did Derek do now?' She thought to herself. It never crossed her mind that maybe it was Meredith's fault, she just cant.
"Yeah, I really don't know what happened since we haven't really talked yet. I cant trust the nurses since they tend to twist the stories so all I know is that they're going through a very rough patch… she's also busy going to different cities for fellowship offers and interviews, many hospitals are actually fighting for her!" Her best friend continued to talk to her about the rumors surrounding the McCouple.
"Well she is a good surgeon, she has great potential! I won't be surprised if she gets successful in the near future." The neonatal surgeon said while nodding her head. Anyone could see that Meredith Grey has the talent for surgery, and there is no doubt she's be great and sought after someday. "She might even surpass Derek!" She added.
She heard her friend snort at the other side "Well that too added to the tension, the big shot neurosurgeon's ego got bruised badly when offers from different hospitals came to woo Meredith, apparently a lot from the medical community are amazed by Dr. Grey's work, especially after people heard that it was actually her who created the Shepherd Method, which by the way is now credited to her and will probably be renamed!"
To this news Addison felt proud, she doesn't know why but to know that the blonde was now getting the credit she deserves made her feel warm inside. She shrugged it off as simply being a proud mentor, since she was once one of her teachers.
She was going to answer Callie when she heard her flight being called so instead they said their goodbyes and she walked towards the line. She was glad that the line was short, this is one of the things she likes about flying first class aside from the great seats and perfect accommodation. She was busy showing her boarding pass and ticket that she fails recognize the blonde woman ahead of her.
She was walking to her seat when her phone suddenly pinged to notify her of a message. She took out her phone as she reached her seat, sitting down directly since she has the aisle seat. She unlocked her phone to see it was a message from Callie.
"Apparently Grey left Seattle! I guess she & Shepherd are now over since Cristina went all crazy on him blaming him for mer's sudden departure… you wont believe why! Yang said something abt Derek fucking a scrub nurse! The thing is nobody knows where Meredith went! " - Callie
Shocked at the her best friend's message she absentmindedly said "Meredith…"
When suddenly the person next to her spoke. "Yes?"
Meredith entered the aircraft and walked to her seat and placed her carry on bag at the over head compartment before seating down on her seat. She was glad that Sandra booked her a first class seat and a window seat nonetheless. She kept thinking about Cristina, Alex, Lexie and Jackson as she looked out the window, waiting for take off.
The blonde kept thinking about the events that happened in the past few weeks. She was also thinking about what would happen as she returns to New York, to the life she kept hidden to her friends in Seattle. She was lost in though when she suddenly heard her name being called by a very familiar voice.
"Meredith…"
"Yes?" She said as she turned to face the person who called her name, who was staring down at her phone before facing her.
As she caught a glimpse of red hair and she saw a pair familiar captivating of blue eyes, to say that she was shocked, was an understatement.
"A-Addison? What are you doing here?"
