Author's Note. Sorry about taking so long on this one. Life catches up to you at times, you know. I'm beginning to understand why it takes others so long. I guess the important thing is to keep doing what you can to finish. This chapter is longer than the last because there's a lot of material that I'm covering here.

Chapter 4 Friends to Enemies and Enemies to Friends

When Anakin was promoted to Jedi Knight, he also was given the rank of Jedi General. He was given the command of the newly formed 501st Legion and a new flagship, the cruiser Resolute. Anakin's clone commander was CT-7567, or he was named Captain Rex. Many of us Jedi preferred to call our clones by the names they chose or were given. The numbers made us uncomfortable. While to many, the clones all looked the same, we could tell the difference between them and treated them as equal individuals. Anakin proved a powerful battlefield general. With battles such as our return to Hypori and our assault on Kessel in the outer rims. Anakin helped to turn the tide of the battles. It seems that with Anakin taking a more active role in the war, the course of it was turning in our favor. I suppose that's why the Separatist Alliance chose to attack Christophsis. The planet of Christophsis was a mineral-rich planet where revolutionary mining processes were developed. They politely chose to stay out of the conflict, which the Galactic Senate and Jedi Order were okay with. Unfortunately, Count Dooku and the Separatists were not of the same mind as us. They wanted to plunder the riches of Christophsis for themselves to turn the tide of war back in their favor. If they did take control of the resources available on Christophsis. It would go a long way to helping their cause, so they invaded the planet. The native inhabitants of Christophsis did their best to defend themselves and get as many innocent civilians out of danger as possible. However, the Chairman of Christophsis soon called on the Republic and the Jedi for help. Senator Bail Organa, with a detachment of clone troopers, went to Christophsis to help with the relief effort. That is when the Separatists chose to blockade the planet, preventing Organa from leaving. Anakin took his command with his flagship to Christophsis to assist the senator. Obi-Wan made it clear to Anakin that he wasn't to engage the enemy until we showed up with reinforcements. With my ship, the Stability, a few more cruisers, and Obi-Wan's flagship, the Vigilance, we rushed to Christophsis. I'd allowed the clones to mingle with my Jedi on my cruisers, so I had Commander Fox with me on my ship. When we got there, we were met with something that wasn't such a surprise.

"It looks like General Skywalker has already engaged the enemy, sir," said Commander Fox. "That's no surprise given the fact that Obi-Wan gave him direct orders not to until we arrived," I said. A few of the supply ships had been hit in the fighting. I knew we needed to regroup our forces if we were to succeed in our mission. "What do we do now, Master," asked Master John. "Get me Kenobi and Skywalker now," I instructed. It was no sooner said than done. The holographic images of Obi-Wan and Anakin appeared before me. "Anakin, we want you to withdraw," Obi-Wan said. "Withdraw?" Anakin asked, clearly surprised. "I've brought a new toy that may give us an advantage," Obi-Wan said. "I hope it's ready, Obi-Wan," I added. "It is Master," he replied. "With respect General," said Admiral Yularen. "Now may not be a bad time to regroup." Just at that moment, another supply ship was hit. It was then that Anakin chose to heed Obi-Wan's advice. As his cruisers covered the supply ships, we all met up behind Christophsis' moon. I sensed something familiar about the droids' movements. "John, have our best intelligence people check out the enemy fleet. I want to know who the opposing commander is," I said. "Yes, my master," he said. I had special ships with cloaking devices used to scan enemy fleets. It was from these that Obi-Wan had a new larger stealth ship built. Using shuttles, Anakin and I both flew off to the Vigilance to meet with Obi-Wan. There Obi-Wan would show Anakin the prototype of our new Corvette Stealth Ship. I arrived first and walked up to Obi-Wan. "Is our new toy ready for its first mission Obi-Wan?" I asked. "Yes, Master," Obi-Wan said. Anakin soon arrived, "Well, here I am, now tell me about this new weapon." he said. "You're looking at it," I said, knowing full well the ship was currently cloaked. "I'm looking at what?" Anakin asked. "Two steps forward, and you'd actually be kissing it," Obi-Wan said, tapping the cloaked ship. A clone trooper with a remote pressed a few buttons, and the ship uncloaked. "It's a stealth ship," Obi-Wan said. Anakin marveled at the ship as he looked it over. "That's some trick," he said. "Let's hope the Separatists think so," I said. "So, I'm assuming that scanners can't detect it," Anakin said. "As far as we know, but this is the first real field test," Obi-Wan said. "That's encouraging," Anakin said. "We figured you'd be up for the challenge, my boy," I stated. "So, I can move in undetected and take them out from behind," Anakin said. "It's a pretty small ship to destroy a whole fleet. Are there more?" "No, this is the prototype, and you won't be on the offensive," I said. "We need you to run a mercy mission down to the planet's surface." "The ship can carry enough supplies for Senator Organa's headquarters," Obi-Wan added. "Oh! I'm still the delivery boy," Anakin said, clearly annoyed. "We don't need the whole fleet I can do this myself." "Anakin, please, slow down and do as we ask," I said. "It's more important to save lives than destroy ships," Obi-Wan added. "We need you to continue the mercy mission." "Let Obi-Wan and I deal with the enemy fleet," I said. "We'll engage them as soon as you're clear for the planet's surface." "Yes, Masters," Anakin conceded.

With that, I returned to the Stability to see what our scouts found out. I went to the bridge where John was waiting with his report. It was not a pleasant one. "Get me, Obi-Wan, now," I said, turning to Fox. "Yes, General," he said. Soon Obi-Wan was on the other side of the holo-communicator. "Yes, Master, what is it?" Obi-Wan asked. "Something felt familiar about the engagement earlier, so I had my best scouts do some research," I said. "What did they find?" Obi-Wan asked. "We believe the opposing commander is none other than Admiral Trench from the Secundus Ando system," I said. "If I remember correctly, Master, wasn't he vaporized at the Battle of Malastare Narrows," he said. "That's what I thought too, but my senses are rarely wrong on such matters. Plus, there's this," I pressed a button and showed Obi-Wan the famous symbol of Trench. "The last time I saw that symbol, well, let's just say I had to be more aggressive than I would've liked that day," I said. "What can you tell me about him, Master?" Obi-Wan asked. "Both Admiral Yularen and I have seen his work firsthand. I sense he too is doing his own research on the matter. A Cooperate Fleet commanded by Trench was blockading Malastare. That's why the brief encounter felt familiar. Yularen's ships were torn apart, they barely escaped with their lives. In the end, I led a task force to settle the matter and use my strongest weapons on Trench's command ship. It was destroyed, and we assumed he went down with it," I said. "You're sure it's him?" Obi-Wan asked. "Not every captain goes down with their ship Obi-Wan," I said. "However, once Anakin is cleared to Christophsis. We need to surprise Trench with a full attack on his ship. Which would include some fighters destroying his shield generator." "Yes, Master," Obi-Wan said.

However, we would have to engage Trench sooner than I thought. Several Hyena Bombers, along with Vulture Droid Fighters, were launched from Trench's command ship. "Where are those ships going," I said. "Master, they seem to be heading for Anakin and the Stealth Ship," one of my female Jedi said. "Do you think that the enemy has detected them?" I asked. "It's hard to tell, but if they crash into them, they won't need scanners to know they're there," she said. "What's Anakin doing now?" I asked. "He seems to be stationary for the moment," she replied. "Get ready for a fast response if the worse happens," I said. "Prepare all fighters to launch and get this ship ready to move from the moon". Just at that point, the enemy ships safely passed Anakin's ship. "Sir," Fox said. "They passed General Skywalker's ship and are heading for the planet". "They're going to bomb Organa's headquarters," I said. That's exactly what happened. The enemy bombed Senator Organa on the planet's surface. Not a minute later, Senator Organa called Obi-Wan, who relayed the message to me. "We need to contact Anakin now," I said. No sooner said than done. "Anakin, we've spoken with the senator," Obi-Wan said. "They are in urgent need of our help. Get those supplies down to the planet. We'll engage Trench's fleet with the ships we already have". "General Kenobi, with respect, you do not have the resources to engage Trench openly," Admiral Yularen said. "He wants you to attack, you'll be walking into a trap". "He's right, Master," Anakin added. "You won't stand a chance". "Anakin, we have enough problems without you becoming one of them," Obi-Wan said. "But he has a point, Obi-Wan," I said. "Trench is trying to put pressure on us, so we'll come from behind the cover of the moon. Your plan won't work because of that. But I may have a plan that might". "What is your plan, Master?" Obi-Wan asked. "Anakin, I'm going to need you for this," I said. "Master, what are you doing?" Obi-Wan asked, clearly taken aback by me.

"What do you need me to do, Master?" Anakin asked, clearly excited. "Get ready to attack Trench's ship from behind," I said. "Because Trench and I have history, we have a score to settle. By moving just my ship out into the open, he should recognize me and be willing to face me one on one. That should get his attention, and he shouldn't notice you until it's too late. Even if he does, we should be able to take him out, and without Trench, the Separatist blockade will fall apart. I leave your methods to you. Now get to it" "Yes, Master. Admiral, prepare torpedo tubes 1 through 4 fix range on Trench's command ship," Anakin said. As Obi-Wan began to protest, I cut the communication and turned to Commander Fox. "Fox, get this ship moving and get the shield and guns at full charge," I said. "Yes, General," Fox said. We soon made our way from behind the moon. As I figured, Trench didn't have the entire fleet fire on us. He recognized my ship and was willing to face me alone. "Commander, hail Trench's ship," I said. Soon Trench's holographic image appeared before me. "Jedi Master Jones," he said. "It's been some time such we last faced one other. I'm glad you chose to face me, ship-to-ship, and play a little game". "Oh, my dear Trench, little do you know that our little game has already begun," I said. I cut the transmission at that moment. Right then, Anakin decloaked and fired his torpedoes. Trench's shields were more than enough to repel them. Trench fired his own missiles at Anakin. Anakin quickly used flares to distract the enemy missiles and recloaked. Thankfully he was unharmed as far as we could tell. Trench tried firing a spread of lasers that Anakin managed to dodge. Then again, I won't have expected anything less from Anakin, as he was the best pilot in the Jedi Order. While I was hoping, Trench would never notice Anakin. At least his attention wasn't on the people on the planet below anymore. It was at that point that Trench hailed us. I felt that Anakin would want to be in on this conversation. "Fox, contact Skywalker now," I said. "What is it, Master?" Anakin asked. "Trench is hailing me, and I feel you might want to be tuned in to this conversation," I said. I put Trench's transmission through at that moment. "Well, Master Jones, I see that you are not alone in your side of the game," he said. "If your fellow Jedi is listening, you have made a bold move and grave mistake. I appreciated your friend's wiliness to face me with you, ship-to-ship, to play our little game. It's been so long such I had a worthy opponent such as yourself. You have an impressive new vessel. But I warn you, I have dealt with its kind before. Your technology will not save your fellow Jedi, and your friends on the planet below shall perish as a result of your failure. The people of Christophsis and her resources shall join the Separatist Alliance. Both of you turn back now; retreat while you can, for I am your doom". With that, Trench ended his part of the transmission. "He said he's dealt with kind of ship before," Yularen said. "How" Anakin pointed out. "I don't know," I said. "Let me and Obi-Wan do some research and see if Trench was telling the truth". It didn't take Obi-Wan, and I long to learn that he was. "You're right, Admiral," Obi-Wan said. "There are records of Trench's battles and a few against ships with cloaking devices." "And," Anakin asked. "It seems that in every case, he used tracking torpedoes to hit the ship somehow, whether cloaked or not," I answered. "Then he knows a way of detecting us," Yularen said. "Tracking torpedoes? Hmm," I could see Anakin thinking. "What class of ship was he fighting?" Anakin asked. "Mostly cruiser to cruiser," Obi-Wan answered. "Nothing as small as your ship." "Well, no ship this small usually has a cloaking device," Anakin said. "Maybe he's tracking the magnetic signature." "Even money bet, Ani," I said. "Obi-Wan, hold the rest of the fleet back until we destroy Trench. Anakin, get into position while I keep Trench busy with some attack of my own and soften him up a bit. Then you deal the final blow and get the supplies through." Might I remind you, Master, that this wasn't Anakin's mission to begin with?" Obi-Wan asked. "You might, Obi-Wan, not that that's going to change my decision here," I said, cutting the transmission. "Commander, prepare to fire on Trench's command ship," I said, turning to Fox. "Yes, sir" he said.

We fired on Trench's ship as Anakin got back into position. Trench didn't fire back, and I sensed he was waiting for Anakin to reveal himself. Not that my cannons were making that big of an impact on Trench's shields anyway. I ordered my cannons to cease fire as Anakin was in place. He decloaked fire four torpedoes and recloaked just as quickly. Just then Trench did something that surprised me. "General," said one of my clones. "The enemy has lowered their shields". Just then, Trench fired four tracking torpedoes at Anakin. "Sir, should we fire on the enemy?" Fox asked me. "No, let's wait and watch the show," I said. "This has to be part of Anakin's plan". I was right of course. With those torpedoes locked onto Anakin's magnetic signature, they'd follow him anywhere. Even to Trench's ship. Trench must have had to lower his shields to fire those torpedoes, but now his shields needed time to recharge. Giving Anakin to chance to brush up against him and let Trench be hit with his own torpedoes. Anakin decloaked and put all his power into his engines to stay ahead of the torpedoes right for Trench's ship. He did actually as I knew he would and blew Trench with his own weapons. There was cheering all over my bridge. I contacted Obi-Wan and Anakin both. "I hate to admit it, but good job Anakin," Obi-Wan said. "Very good job indeed, my boy," I added. "Get the supplies down to the planet's surface. We'll deal with the remainder of the Separatist fleet." "Have fun," Anakin said. As Obi-Wan brought the rest of our fleet from behind the moon. I was already engaging the Separatist fleet as I could. I launched our fighters because the enemy launched theirs. We searched around for Trench in the wreckage; although we found him unconscious, he was alive. Unfortunately, the droids got him before we could. I just hoped that we never saw him again. As we suspected, the droids were lost without Trench, and the Separatist blockade crumbled. We then established our own defensive blockade as we landed our troops. We established our own bases quickly and formed a line against the Separatist droids. We quickly pushed them back from the capital of Chaleydonia. I sensed Asajj Ventress was leading the Separatist forces on the planet's surface along with General Whorm Loathsom from the Kerkoidia System. As soon as we established a headquarters, we began coordinating our attacks with our Christophsian allies. Christophsis agreed to support the Republic in the war as thanks for helping to defend them from the Separatist invasion. We got some information that Loathsom was preparing for a full attack against us in Crystal City. We prepared an ambush to turn them back. Anakin and Rex had their troops in the North Tower of buildings that the clankers would have to pass by. Obi-Wan and Cody were with their troops in the South Tower on the other side of the road. Fox and I were ready with our troops on the road as bait for the trap. Once Anakin and Obi-Wan ambushed the enemy, I would rush them down the middle, or that was the plan. Unfortunately, as often happens with such plans, things go wrong. This time something went very wrong indeed. "General, the enemy is splitting up," Fox said. Looking through my macrobinoculars, I saw he was right. "What's going on here?" I asked. Of course, Commander Fox didn't have an answer for me. Not that I needed him to because I then noticed Obi-Wan under attack in the South Tower.

"The plan's been compromised," I said. "We need to rush the enemy now and save Obi-Wan." With that, my clones and Jedi made a mad dash for the enemy. We kept them occupied while Anakin and Rex slid across cables to reach Obi-Wan. Once we had clearance to one of the doorways. I instructed Alex with his clone commander Captain Rich to watch our rear while Fox and I led some troops and Jedi into the building and helped Obi-Wan. Fox and I hurried as fast as we could up to Obi-Wan's position. We reached him and Anakin as they were making their escape. Anakin said that they were making their way to the roof, where Hawk, the pilot, was coming to evacuate them on a gunship. I had us split up, some went downstairs to join Alex and Rich, while the rest of us went for the roof. The gunship reached us just as the roof became flooded by battle droids. There was a T-series tactical droid that was leading the b1 battle droids. Captain Rex, before he got on board the gunship, tackled the tactical droid tearing off its head. He brought the head with him on the ship. "Maybe this tactical droid will tell us how they knew our plan," he said. We all retreated to our headquarters to plan our next move against the Separatists. Fox, Rex, and Cody were in the command center scanning the droid's memory. After I sent Alex and Rich up to command the space forces, I joined Anakin and Obi-Wan at the command center to see what information our clone commanders found out. At first glance, as we entered, they didn't find out much. "At least we're not the only ones having a bad day," Anakin said as we walked in. "Generals," Fox said, standing at attention. "They had all our intel," Cody reported. "That would explain the ambush," Anakin said. "How could we have left ourselves so vulnerable to a security breach?" "I don't think we did," Obi-Wan answered. "You think someone infiltrated our defenses?" Anakin asked. "Worse," I said. "I think we might have a spy in our midst." "You think so?" Obi-Wan asked. "It's the only possibility that explains it to me," I said. "A spy, sir," Cody said, clearly surprised by what I was implying. "But who would want to betray our troops to the Seppies?" "Excellent question, Commander," Obi-Wan said. "Perhaps it's we made a visit behind enemy lines. I think we'll find our answers there." "Meanwhile, the three of you see what you can find out here," I said. "There must be some clues as to who the spy is." "We'll get right on it," Fox said. "You can count on us, sir," Cody added. "One more thing," Obi-Wan said. "This mission is extremely confidential. The spy could be anyone. Let no one know of our mission." "And be careful, who the spy is may be capable of anything," I added. "Don't let your guard down until you have the spy in custody. Understand?" "Understood, sir," Rex said.

With that, Obi-Wan, Anakin, and I left and mounted some BARC Speeders, and began our journey to the Separatist headquarters. It was night and dark, so we felt as if we had an element of surprise in our favor. As we rode, we noticed some battle droids watching us. They didn't shoot at us, which was strange. "We appear to have picked up some friends," Anakin said. He was on the right while Obi-Wan was on the left, and I was in the middle. "Indeed," Obi-Wan answered. "In fact, I believe the number of eyes watching us has been steadily growing." "Great. Perhaps this means our adversary has learned about our mission," Anakin said. "Even money bet on that," I said. "So much for the element of surprise." "Of course, nobody's tried to stop us yet," Anakin pointed out. "Also true," Obi-Wan said. "I guess they want us to get to where we're going," I said. "They want us to get to the Separatist headquarters, which means this is a trap," Anakin said. "I would imagine it is," Obi-Wan agreed. "Well, that's unfortunate for them," Anakin said. "Maybe we can snap the trap on them instead," I said. We continued down the streets straight for the enemy headquarters. It was a tall building that seemed abandoned apart from the lights from within. "No guards, no barricades. Huh. You'd like the Separatist headquarters would be better protected," Anakin said. "But clearly, keeping us out is not what they intend," Obi-Wan said as he used the Force to open the door with a wave of his hand. "Which means they intend to keep us in," I said as we walked in. "Stay on guard, boys, I sense something very off about this whole thing." We walked around and found nothing. No droids, no enemy computers, nothing at all. I was beginning to think we had the wrong place. We went inside an elevator and went up to the top floor. As we step out again, we found nothing. At least at first glance. I sensed a certain dark presence that we all had become familiar with in the battle for several months.

"So, this is the belly of the beast," Anakin said. "Yes, but the kind of beast it is remains to be seen," I pointed out. At that moment, a hooded figure emerged from the shadows and walked in front of us. She took off her hood to reveal her face. "Ventress, and here I thought this mission would be unpleasant," Obi-Wan said, clearly trying some flattery. "The pleasure all mine, my dear Obi-Wan. I've missed you," Ventress said. Ever since Anakin first faced Ventress on Yavin 4, many of us Jedi had come to face Ventress and become fairly familiar with her. The three of us present seemed to be her favorite adversaries to face. That Sith Witch always seems to be where at least one of us was on the battlefield. She dropped her cloak and drew her curved handle lightsabers. I learned these were gifts from Count Dooku when he took her on as his apprentice. She could actually attach the ends together and make them into a curved saber staff that she was deadly with. We three drew our lightsabers in response. Ventress being a bit of a coward as a follower of the Dark Side, turned a ran up the stairs behind us. Though I have to admit, that did give her the high ground. "My loyal informant let me know you were coming," she said with smugness on her face. "Well, we thank you for your hospitality," Obi-Wan said. "But before we leave, you're going to wish we never came at all," I said. Anakin being the youngest and most reckless of the three of us attacked Ventress first. She met him just below the top of the stairs. They exchanged blows while I made my way around to the right, and Obi-Wan came from the left. Just as Ventress pushed Anakin back, Obi-Wan and I attacked at the same time. She blocked each of us with one lightsaber and used them to push us together. While Obi-Wan got stunned by that, I didn't. I continued my attack and forced Ventress up the stairs. She then used the Force to push me down to the bottom. I flipped and landed on my feet. She charged down the stairs, and all three of us attacked together. She kept switching her focus around to each of us. She was holding her own, but I knew she'd tire eventually. However, as the only saying goes, "three's a crowd." There wasn't enough room for all of us to attack her all at once. If we did do that enough, we'd eventually hurt each other. Therefore, we had to coordinate our attacks so we didn't harm one another.

We forced her back up the stairs, and soon she made a dash for it. We chased after her knowing that if we could capture her, it could mean a turn in the tide for the Battle of Christophsis and maybe the war. We followed her into an old fashion library with physical books. Using the Force, she threw some at us. Working together, we threw the books back at her. While she fell from the book barrage. She quickly recovered and ran again. We continued our chase, but something felt off. What was Ventress thinking running all over the place? Was she leading us into another ambush like the one we had earlier, or was there another purpose she had? I didn't know then, but I was determined to find out. Soon we found her sitting on the floor in front of a window. "Give up, Ventress," Obi-Wan said. "I'm all yours, Obi-Wan," she said. Anakin and Obi-Wan walked up to her while I remained behind. I could sense a trick, and sure enough, I was right. She activated her lightsabers and made a hole in the floor that the boys fell through. I jumped back to safety. I jumped down and made sure they were all right. They just fell to the next floor and were okay. "You've served your purpose," Ventress said to us. "So, you meant not to trap us here but to distract us," I said. Ventress nodded. "We have to get back. Now," Anakin said. "It's already too late," Ventress said. "So hard to know whom to trust these days, isn't it?" I could sense her smugness from all the way down there. "What's the plan, Masters?" Anakin asked, clearly anxious. Not that I could blame him. "Bringing us here was a mistake, my sweet," Obi-Wan said. "You've overestimated your abilities." "And underestimated ours," I added. "Really," she said. Ventress ran, and we jumped up to pursue her. She smashed through the window and jumped onto an octuptarra tri-droid. You might call this droid a cross between a small spider droid and a larger homing spider droid. "Come and get me, boys," she taunted. From our view, we could see the droid drop ships or landing crafts landing with several more octuptarras, ATAT tanks, STAP speeders flying, and whole battalions of battle droids marching forward. "You didn't tell us you were bringing friends," Obi-Wan said. "Poor Obi-Wan. You've been betrayed, and now we're about to take control of this world," Ventress said. "Not as long as we draw breath, Ventress," I said. I jumped and attacked her. This was a diversion while Anakin and Obi-Wan cut the legs of the octuptarra, causing it to fall. As we fought Ventress Obi-Wan, I noticed three STAP speeders buzzing our way. "Anakin," he shouted and pointed. Anakin understood that we could use those speeders to escape back to our base. As the sun began rising, we flew back to the base. We saw that the droid army was marching behind us. As we returned to the base, we noticed the weapons depot was in flames. It seems the spy blew it up. We all hoped that some of our weapons managed to survive. Fox and Cody met us just inside. "Generals, we managed to catch the traitor," Fox said. "Traitor," I said. "You mean that the spy was one of our own?" I asked. "Yes, Sir, Captain Rex is bringing him now," Cody said. When Rex brought the traitor, none of us could believe it. "Slick? It was you?" Obi-Wan asked. "He gave us a bit of a chase, sir," Rex reported. Sergeant Slick was one of the best troopers we had. I didn't know why he'd do this. Anakin ended up being the one to ask. "You couldn't be a greater disappointment. How could you do this to your brothers?" he asked. "Only a Jedi would ask that," Slick scoffed. "It's the Jedi who keep my brothers enslaved. We do your bidding; we serve at your whim." "Is that what Ventress told you?" I asked. "We Jedi risk our lives alongside yours. Doesn't that mean anything to you?" "I just wanted something more," Slick answered. "And all you had to do to get it was put the rest of us all at risk," Rex said. "You allowed so many of our brothers to die because of that," Fox added. "I… I love my brothers," Slick objected. "You're too blind to see it, but I was striking a blow for all clones." "If you loved your brothers, you wouldn't have put them at risk," Cody pointed out. "You betrayed every one of us," Rex added. Fox turned to two troopers that arrived. "Take him to lockup," he ordered. The two clone troopers grabbed Slick and took him away.

"Were you able to salvage anything from the weapons depot?" Obi-Wan asked. "Slick pretty much scorched the whole thing," Rex reported. "That seems to be what he was going for all along." "Weaken us so we can't fight back effectively against the Separatist advance," I said. "We managed to save the heavy cannons, though," Cody said. "Well, that's good," Obi-Wan said. "Because there are about 1,000 battle droids on their way here." "The fight goes on, gentlemen," Anakin added. "And we need to be ready for it," I finished. With that, the three of us turned and walked out to oversee preparations to repel the Separatists' next attack. I called Alex on the Stability to get a report. It seemed that some Separatist ships were attempting to reinforce the enemy on the planet's surface. He and Rich were doing their best to turn them away. "Can you spare any weapons and supplies?" I asked. "We've had a bit of a problem down here." I didn't want to explain the situation at that moment. Alex said he'd send down everything he could spare to us. He sent Jedi, clones, and weapons down to us. We were able to repel the enemy attack, and it seemed they took a beating. I believed the Separatists would need some time before they would attack again. I chose to take the time to go and get us fresh supplies and troops. If we were to drive the Separatists from Christophsis for good, we would need whatever we could get. I took the Stability to our supply depot in the Ryndellia System, which was close to Christophsis. At that moment, we received a transmission from the Jedi Council on Coruscant. Masters Yoda and Windu called us. "What is it, Masters?" I asked. "It's urgent that we contact General Kenobi," Master Windu said. "An important mission we have for you," Master Yoda added "I've been doing my best to keep in contact with them, Master, but the Separatists may be jamming us," I said. "They don't seem to be willing to leave Christophsis quietly." "A messenger we are sending," Master Yoda said. "With important orders for General Kenobi." "You must see that she gets there as fast as possible," Master Windu said. "Yes, Master, I'll take her myself, along with whatever supplies I'm able to load once she arrives on board," I said. "No time, there is. Immediately, the messenger must go," Master Yoda said. "I understand, my master," I said. "I will leave as soon as she comes." It wasn't too long before the young messenger arrived on board the Stability. She was a Togruta, Padawan Learner. "Welcome young one," I said. "I'm Master Ammon Jones. I am to take you to meet with Masters Kenobi and Skywalker." "I thank you, Master. My name is Ahsoka Tano, and it is an honor to meet you," she said. "I've heard so much about you and your adventures." "Once again, my reputation precedes me," I said. "Fox set coordinates for Christophsis, we'll send someone for the rest of the supplies later. We'll have to make do with what we were able to load." "Yes, General," Fox said.

As soon as we were back in the Christophsis System. I could see that the battle was far from over. Several Separatist warships had entered the system and were trying to break through our defenses. I ordered Alex and Yularen to do what they could to repel them. Meanwhile, boarding a shuttle, I led several supply ships down to the surface with Ahsoka riding with me. As we landed, I saw that Obi-Wan and Anakin had barely managed to hold off another Separatist attack from General Loathsom. The AV-7 heavy cannons seem to be what did the trick. Ahsoka and I were ready when our shuttle landed. Obi-Wan and Anakin walked up to meet us. "Master Jones, good to have you back," Obi-Wan said. "We can really use the supplies and reinforcements you brought back with you." "I could see that as we came in, Obi-Wan," I said. "Several Separatist warships have entered the system and are engaged with our ships above. I couldn't get as many supplies and reinforcements as we had hoped, however. I had to return urgently on Master Yoda's orders to bring young Ahsoka here to you. She has an urgent message from the Council." I gestured to Ahsoka on my right, and she came forward. "I was told to tell the three of you that you must get back to the Jedi Temple immediately," Ahsoka said. "There's an emergency." "Well, I don't know if you've noticed, but we're in a bit of an emergency right here," Anakin said. "Yes, our communications have been a bit unreliable, but we've been calling for help," Obi-Wan added. "I sense the droids may have been jamming us," I said. "I know there was a reason I was having a hard time keeping in contact with you boys." "Master Yoda hadn't heard from you, so he sent me to deliver the message," Ahsoka said. "Oh, great. They don't even know we're in trouble," Anakin sighed. "Steady, Ani," I advised. "I did manage to bring supplies and reinforcements with me, so that will help." "Maybe you can relay a signal through your cruiser, Master," Ahsoka suggested. "Excellent suggestion, young one," I said. I turned to Commander Fox. "Fox, contact General Alex on the Stability," I ordered. "Yes, Sir," he said.

We managed to get a signal through to the Stability. "We're engaged heavily with the Separatist warships, brother," Alex said. "But I'll try to contact the Jedi Temple for you. Stand by." Before long, Master Yoda appeared on the communicator. "Master Kenobi, glad Ahsoka found you; I am," he said. "Master Yoda, we are trapped here and vastly outnumbered," Obi-Wan said. "We are in no position to go anywhere or do anything." "Our ships are heavily engaged with Separatist cruisers above, and we are occupied by the droid army below. We need some more reinforcements if we are to leave Christophsis in peace." I added. "Send some reinforcements; we will," Master Yoda said just as we lost the transmission. "Master Yoda, Master Yoda," Obi-Wan called. "We've lost the transmission Ammon," Alex said. "The Separatist cruisers are coming down hard on us." "Do what you can to repel them until help arrives, Alex. Retreat if you have to," I ordered. "We'll make do down here." "More enemy ships just arrived. We'll get back to you as soon as we can," Rich said. "Well, I guess we'll have to hold out a little longer," Anakin said. We all were silent for a minute until Obi-Wan chose to break it. "My apologies, young one. It's time for a proper introduction," he said. "Indeed," I agreed. "I'm the new Padawan learner. I'm Ahsoka Tano," Ahsoka said. "I'm Obi-Wan Kenobi, your new master," Obi-Wan said. "And he's Anakin Skywalker," I said, pointing to him. "I'm sure you've heard of him too." "I'm at your service, Master Kenobi, but I'm afraid I've actually been assigned to Master Skywalker," Ahsoka said as she pointed at him. "What?" Anakin said, clearly taken aback. "No, no, no. There must be some mistake. He's the one who wanted the Padawan." "No, Master Yoda was very specific. I'm assigned to Anakin Skywalker, and he is to supervise my Jedi training." Ahsoka said with confidence. "Though with how closely we all work together, I have a feeling you'll learn from Obi-Wan and me just as much, Padawan Tano," I said. "But that doesn't make any sense," Anakin started protesting. "We'll have to sort this out later," Obi-Wan said. "Obi-Wan's right; now is not the time for quarrels," I said. "The Separatists will be back for another assault, and we must be ready for it." "Master Jones makes a good point," Obi-Wan added. "It won't be long before those droids find a way around our cannons." "I'll check with Rex in the lookout post," Anakin said as he began to walk away. "You better take her with you," Obi-Wan said, putting a hand on Ahsoka's shoulder. She immediately began to follow Anakin. Seeing the smile on Obi-Wan's face, I began to get suspicious. "You didn't, by chance, request a Padawan for Anakin rather than yourself, did you?" I asked. "What makes you think that, Master?" Obi-Wan replied. "The smile on your face, for one," I said. "Anyway, we need to see that our reinforcements and supplies are unloaded and ready. Those droids could be back at any moment."

Obi-Wan and I saw that our supplies and fresh troops, and Jedi were unloaded and ready for the next assault. I directed Commander Fox to reinforce the front central line and had a young Aspirant of mine named Joseph reinforce the right. I saw young Ashoka and Rex walking behind the cannon lines. I chose to walk up and see how she was doing. "Have you thought about moving that line back, Captain?" She asked. "They'd have better cover that way." "Thanks for the suggestion, but General Skywalker thinks they're fine where they are." Rex pointed out. "So, if you're a captain and I'm a Jedi, then technically, I outrank you, right?" Ahsoka asked. Ambition is a common trait with young Padawans like Ahsoka, so I giggled slightly at hearing that. "In my book, experience outranks everything," Rex said. "Captain Rex has a point, young one," I added. "A Jedi's rank is often linked to her experience in facing various problems. Remember to have humility when learning. Even the most experienced, like myself, still have more to learn. A line from Master Yoda himself." "I understand, Master," Ahsoka said. "If experience outranks everything, I guess I better start getting some." "I believe you will, my dear. You will," I said. Though I didn't know just how correct I was at the time. Joseph came running up to us. "Master, I think we have some trouble," he said and pointed. "What's that?" Ahsoka asked. "Not good," Rex said. "They've got an energy shield. That's gonna make things damn near impossible." "Blast; they'll protect their lines from our cannon fire and advance undeterred," I said. "If you wanted experience, little one, it looks like you're about to get plenty." "Quickly, we need to rendezvous with Generals Kenobi and Skywalker and discuss our plan of action," I said. We met up with them at the forward command center. Where a holographic map of the battlefield was made. "The shield generator is somewhere in this area," Obi-Wan said, pointing. "They're slowly increasing the diameter and keeping it just ahead of their troops." "Heavy cannons are gonna be useless against that," Rex pointed out. "As they get closer, I suppose we could try to draw them into the buildings," Obi-Wan said. "That may level the playing field a bit." "If I took my Aspirants and attacked their central lines. Maybe we could stall them long enough for the shield to pass the cannons and have room to blast them to pieces," I said. "What makes you think they'll continue to increase the shield if you manage to stall their advance?" Obi-Wan asked. "Yes, you may be right," I said. "They may halt the shield and wait for us to fall back." "If that shield's gonna be such a problem, why don't we just take it out?" Ahsoka asked. "Easier said than done," Rex pointed out. "But she has a point, Rex. We need to take out that shield if we want to win," I said. "Well, I also agree with her," Anakin said rather reluctantly. "Someone has to get to that shield generator and destroy it. That's the key." "Right then. Maybe you two can tiptoe through the enemy lines and solve this particular problem together." Obi-Wan said. "Can do, Master Kenobi," Ahsoka said with enthusiasm. "I'll decide what we do," Anakin put in. "If Rex and I can engage them here, you two might have a chance to get through their lines undetected here," said Obi-Wan as he pointed to the spots on the map. "And if my Jedi and I can charge down the middle. We should make enough commotion to divert their attention away from the shield generator and you," I said.

"They won't have much time. Even with the reinforcement provided by General Jones. The droids far outnumber us, so our ability to street fight is limited without the use of heavy cannons," Rex said. "They will march forward under the protection of their shield until they are right on top of our cannons, then they'll blow them away." "This is why we have to do everything we can to prevent that from happening," I said. "Those cannons will mean the difference between victory and defeat." "We'll figure out a way," Ahsoka assured us. She turned and began to walk away. "Come on, Master, let's go," she said. "If we survive this, Snips, you and I are gonna have a talk," Anakin said just as they walked away. "They make quite a pair, don't they sir?" Rex said. "You think they have a chance?" "They better," Obi-Wan said. "If they can't turn off that shield generator before it reaches the heavy cannons, there'll be no escape for any of us." "I agree," I said. "Get your men into position. Rex, you will engage from the right with General Kenobi. I'll have Fox and Cody attack from the left while I engage in the middle. Hopefully, we can buy Anakin and Ahsoka enough time to destroy the shield. Once it's down, we'll need to pull everyone back to let the cannons do their work. Understood?" "Yes, Sir," Rex said. "Yes, Master," Obi-Wan said. "Move out," I said. As soon as the shield was in range, we tried to open fire with our cannons. I didn't think it would do anything, and it didn't. Though, I suppose it was worth a try. Obi-Wan, Rex, and I watched as the shield repelled our cannon fire through our macrobinoculars. "That shield is certainly putting a crimp in my day," Obi-Wan said. "Mine too," I added. "It's no use, sir!" Rex said. "Even at full power, the cannon doesn't affect it." "All right, Rex. It was worth a try. Tell the men to fall back," Obi-Wan said. "Get ready to ambush them from all sides," I said. We pulled the cannons as far back as we could to stall for as much time as we could. Meanwhile, I had my line of Jedi ready to charge. They say that 1 Jedi is equal to 100 battle droids, and I felt it was time to prove that a bit. Though we'd have quite the challenge on our hands. They have standard b1 battle droids, b2 super battle droids, octuptarras, AATs, and NR-N99 tank droids. However, I was never one to back down from a challenge. The droids didn't fire from inside the shield because I guess they didn't fear our line. Though I'd make them fear it soon enough. When I saw that Obi-Wan, Rex, Cody, and Fox were in place. I gave the order for my Aspirants to charge. We clearly caught the droids by surprise. My Jedi and I cut through them, and they paused. Fortunately, the shield continued to expand, and Obi-Wan and the clones soon joined the fun. Though we made quite the effort that it delayed the droids' advance. Soon we uncovered the AT-TE and AT-RT, or All Terrain Recon Transport walkers, that I had brought with me from my supply run. They did what they could, but Rex was right. Without the use of our cannons, our street fighting options were limited. Though my Jedi definitely made a difference. We held them back as much as we could. Though, the number of droids and tanks made it more difficult. I know I had to do something to slow them down before they reached our cannons.

I jumped onto an octuptarra and slashed down on it. That caused a blockage on the road that caused a problem for General Loathsom. Soon Obi-Wan and I were side-by-side, facing down the column Loathsom personally led. He popped out of his head from the top of the tank he was in. "You must be the infamous Generals Jones and Kenobi," he said. "General Loathsom," I said. "I was hoping we'd run into each other in this battle." "Order your troops and Jedi to stand down now," he demanded. "The battle is not over yet, General," I said. Just at that moment, I sensed that Anakin and Ahsoka and blown up the shield generator. As the shield began to recede, I used the Force to pull General Loathsom to me and held him hostage. The droids tried to help their commander, but Obi-Wan blocked their fire that we couldn't dodge. "Don't fire," Loathsom ordered his droids. "Something appears to have happened to your shield General," Obi-Wan said. I could sense that our cannons were beginning to fire on the droid tanks and destroying them in detail. Now the balance of the battle had turned in our favor once again. Obi-Wan holoprojector communicator began beeping. The image of Admiral Yularen appeared. "General Kenobi, if you can hear me, we're through the blockade," he said. "The Separatist armada is in retreat. Your reinforcements should be loading in a moment." Obi-Wan and I looked up, and we saw Republic gunships flying overhead. One gunship landed next to us. It carried Master Yoda, Alex, clone troopers, and some of my Aspirants. "Your timing is perfect, Master Yoda," Obi-Wan said. "Great job, brother," I said. "We said we'd be back," Alex said. "Indeed, take General Loathsom into custody along with his super battle droid," I ordered. The droids were deactivated and taken away to be used for scrap. Loathsom was escorted in cuffs onto the gunship. Quickly the mess from the battle was cleared as Obi-Wan, and I talked with Alex and Master Yoda. As Acclamator cruisers landed to unload whole battalions of clone troopers. Another gunship landed, dropping off Anakin and Ahsoka. "Master Obi-Wan, Master Yoda, Master Jones, Master Alex," Anakin said, bowing his head slightly. "Trouble you have with your new Padawan, I hear," Master Yoda said. "We were explaining the situation to Master Yoda," Obi-Wan said. "Really?" Anakin asked. "If not ready for a Padawan, you are, then perhaps, my friends, we can," Master Yoda began. "No, wait a minute," Anakin interrupted. "I admit Ahsoka is a little rough around the edges. But with a great deal of training and patience, she might amount to something." "Then go with you, she will, to the Teth system," Master Yoda said.

"Teth? That's Wild Space. The droid army isn't even in that sector," Anakin said. "Kidnapped, Jabba the Hutt's son has been," Master Yoda explained. "You want me to rescue Jabba's son," Anakin said. "Calm yourself, Anakin," I said. "I know you have a personal beef with the Hutts, but I'm good friends with them. Plus, we'll need the Hutts' space lanes to move our forces throughout the Outer Rim." "Master Jones is right, Anakin," Obi-Wan added. "We'll need the Hutts' allegiance to give us an advantage over Dooku." "Negotiate the treaty with Jabba, Obi-Wan and Ammon will," Master Yoda said. "Find the renegades that hold Jabba's son, your mission will be, Skywalker." "Come on, Master," Ahsoka said. "It doesn't sound that hard. I'll find Rex and get the troops organized." Ahsoka ran off to do just that. She definitely had enthusiasm; I'd give her that much. "Don't worry, Anakin," Obi-Wan said. "Just teach her everything I taught you, and she'll turn out fine." "You know, something makes me think this was your idea from the start," Anakin said. "That makes two of us," I added. "Though remember, you can learn as much from her as she will from you. If not more." Anakin then went to join up with his Padawan. "Let's just hope Anakin is ready for this responsibility," Obi-Wan said. "Ready he is to teach an apprentice," Master Yoda said. "To let go of his pupil, a greater challenge it will be." "That's the same for any Jedi Mentor Master," I pointed out. "It'll make him no different than the rest of us." "But master this; nonetheless, Skywalker must," Master Yoda said. "If we've got to make a deal with Jabba the Hutt," Obi-Wan said. "We'd best be on our way." "Indeed," I agreed as I turned to Alex. "Alex, take our best Jedi and join Anakin on Teth," I instructed. "They might need all the help they can get." "Yes, my brother," Alex said, bowing. Then he left to do as I directed. Then Obi-Wan and I got into our Jedi Starfighters. Our respective droids, R4-P17 and R3-D1 were already onboard our fighters waiting for us. We left the remainder of the droid army on Christophsis to Master Yoda while we collected some hyperdrive rings to travel to Tatooine.

Obi-Wan had never been to Jabba's Palace before, but fortunately, I had. I knew where it was and how to get there, so I had Obi-Wan follow me. R4 beeped worriedly. He was clearly nervous about this negotiation. "Don't worry, I'm sure Jabba's in a good mood," Obi-Wan said. "And even if he isn't. The sight of me should help," I said. "Jabba and I have been friends for a long time. Ever since I saved his life from a rival band of pirates." "How did you do that?" Obi-Wan asked. "It was during my younger days as a Jedi," I said. "I was sent by the Council to see if Jabba knew anything about some pirates that had been raiding trade ships from Naboo going to Alderaan. As I was discussing the matter with Jabba, those very pirates burst into the palace. Apparently, they had asked for Jabba's help before, but he wasn't interested, so they decided to get his help by force. I protected Jabba and took several of the pirates into custody. Jabba was so grateful that I protected his palace and saved his life. That he proclaimed me a friend for life." "That's quite the story, Master," Obi-Wan said. We flew down to Jabba's palace as I recalled the story. We landed just outside the palace. As we exited our ships and put on our cloaks, a protocol droid with several Weequay and Nikto thugs of Jabba's came to meet us. "We should not keep the wise and powerful Jabba waiting," said the protocol droid. "We wouldn't dream of it," Obi-Wan said. "It's bad manners, after all," I added. We followed the protocol droid into the palace and into Jabba's audience chamber. Obi-Wan and I bowed to Jabba to show respect. "Jabba, it's been a long time, my friend," I said in Huttese. "Forget the pleasantries, Jones. I want to know if your Jedi are looking for my son," Jabba said. Clearly, he was anxious about his son, and I couldn't blame him. The protocol droid translated everything Jabba, and I said for Obi-Wan. "Mighty Jabba, one of our most powerful Jedi, along with Master Jones' own brother, are on their way to rescue your son," Obi-Wan said. "We will not let you down." "I want you to bring back the slime who kidnapped my little punky muffin, dead or alive," Jabba said. "The most gracious Jabba has one more small condition. He demands you bring back the slime who kidnapped his little," the protocol droid said and paused. "Punky muffin," she finished, a little embarrassed. "Punky," Obi-Wan laughed. "Now, now, Obi-Wan," I said. "Dead or alive" Jabba repeated. "Dead or alive," the protocol droid translated. "If you do not succeed, then maybe Dooku and his droid army will," Jabba said, and the protocol droid translated. "I wouldn't trust Dooku Jabba," I replied in Basic. "I sense that he's behind this," Jabba grumbled, something that I couldn't hear. "The mighty Jabba asks why you think Count Dooku would want to kidnap his son," the protocol droid said. "Simple," I replied. "To make trouble between us, so you don't help us in the war effort. Dooku knows that if the Republic gets your help. We will have an advantage in the war." "You have but one planetary rotation to find my son and bring him home safely. If you can also prove that Dooku is behind this at that time. I will allow the Republic to use my space lanes," Jabba said. I translated for Obi-Wan, and we agreed to Jabba's terms. Not that we had much choice here. "Let us contact our Jedi on their way to rescue your son," I said. "Then perhaps we can finish our negotiations." We bowed and walked out to our fighters. Obi-Wan had R4 contact Anakin's fleet. Anakin was already in a gunship on his way down to the planet's surface. "Okay, Anakin, here's the story," Obi-Wan said. "Jabba has given us only one planetary rotation to get his son back home to Tatooine safe and sound." "Won't take us that long, Master," Anakin said. "Don't be overconfident, Anakin," I warned. "I sense that there will be many traps in this plot." "Yes, Master," Anakin said. "Master Jones is right, Anakin. You need to take extreme care," Obi-Wan said. "We have no idea who's holding Jabba's son." "When we finish our negotiations with him, we'll join you," I said. "Yes, Master," Anakin said. "Good luck, my boy," I said, bowing.

We ended the transmission and went back into the palace. I asked Jabba not to believe anything Dooku said without solid evidence. I also assured him that his son would be returned home safe and sound. Jabba agreed that if we managed to return his son, we could use his hyperspace lanes, and we discussed a trade agreement. Jabba would give us some fuel and supplies while we, in return, provided some protection and money. With the agreements in place, Obi-Wan and I got into our fighters. R4 beeps that he is anxious to leave. "I know, R4. I want to get out of here, too," Obi-Wan agreed. "Well, if you really wish to leave, then I suggest we do so now," I said. R3 agreed with me. "Come on, we have some business to attend to," I said. With that, we took off for our hyperspace rings in orbit around the planet. As we left, I sensed Dooku was there on Tatooine. However, I was clever to have some of my Jedi there in secret to watch him. Obi-Wan and I rendezvoused with the Vigilance and Stability near Teth. We each flew to our own ships. I docked in the hanger of the Stability. Several of my Jedi and Fox, with some clone troopers, were there to meet me. "Commander, let's get underway," I said, "We need to reinforce Anakin immediately." "Yes, Sir," said Fox. I was soon at the bridge when I received a message from Tom on Tatooine. "Yes, Tom, what is it?" I asked. "Master, Dooku is here and is trying to convince Jabba that not only did we kidnap his son but wish to destroy him," Tom said. "That sneaky traitor," I said under my breath. "Keep track of all his transmissions," I instructed. "We may have the evidence we need to show Jabba the opposite of what Dooku is telling him." "Yes, Master, as you command," Tom said, bowing. Just then, a transmission came from Alex on Teth. "Status, brother," I said. "We've recovered the Huttlet, but he's badly sick. Also, it seems you were right, Ammon. The Separatists were the ones behind his abduction. and I sense that Ventress is here too," Alex reported. "That's how Dooku intends to frame us for his crime," I said. "Be careful, we don't know what they may be planning next. Keep that little guy safe at all costs and get him some medical help." "Right," Alex said. I could sense our troubles were long from over, but maybe I could speed things up a bit. I called Tom. "Tom, I sense Dooku is about to receive a transmission from Ventress. Try and intercept it before he tries to use it against us," I said. "Make a recording of everything Dooku and Ventress say and show it to Jabba. That should keep things civil between us." "Yes, Master, I'll take care of it," Tom said. We managed to make good time heading for Teth. Obi-Wan contacted me with an urgent message. "Master, I have urgent news," he said. "I know the Huttlet is sick and as I suspected, Dooku is behind the whole thing," I said. "There's something more. They are currently under attack," Obi-Wan said. "We have to get to them now." "Agreed. Prepare all your ships for immediate takeoff once we reach the Teth System," I said. "Yes, Master," Obi-Wan said. As soon as we were close enough, I hurried back to the hangar and got in my Jedi Starfighter. Many of my clones and Jedi got in their fighters as well. As soon as we exited from hyperspace, we launched all our fighters. We flew up next to Obi-Wan and his boys. "Skywalker is in trouble," Obi-Wan said. "You know the drill." "Copy that, sir," said the Odd Ball.

"It's not just Skywalker that's in trouble," I added. "My brother's down there too." "Roger, sir," Odd Ball said. We flew as fast as we could and were soon engaged by droid fighters. "Alex, do you copy?" I called. "Alex, come in." There was static on the transmission. "Obi-Wan, the Separatists are jamming us. I can't reach Alex," I called. "I can't reach Anakin either. I hope they're having better luck than we are," Obi-Wan said. "Somehow, I doubt it," I said. "We need to get down the monastery now. Break through the droid fighters, attack formation Delta 3." "Roger that, sir," said Oddball. "Copy, Master," said Tabby, my latest young student. We split up and scattered the droids. I could see that Alex and Rex were pinned down in a courtyard. "It looks like there's a battle on the east side of the palace," Obi-Wan said. "Yes, I see it, Obi-Wan," I responded. "And if there's a battle, Anakin's probably in the middle of it," he said. "Negative, Obi-Wan," I said. "I don't see Anakin or Ahsoka anywhere. It's Rex and Alex in the middle of it. I don't see Ventress either. That's concerning to me." "We can still start looking for them there," Obi-Wan pointed out. "Indeed! All ships follow me in formation, Rogue 9." We came in a tight group and blasted the droids surrounding our friends. Obi-Wan and I called for our gunships for an immediate ground assault. Cody and Fox were happy to oblige us. Then we had our R4 and R3 take over our ships as we jumped out and helped Alex and Rex. I slashed down a super battle droid, and Force Pushed a column of others. I jumped onto a vulture droid and slashed off its head, causing it to fall on several b1 battle droids. I used the Force to pick up two droidekas and threw them over the side of the cliff. Then Cody and Fox jumped from the gunships with some more troopers and Jedi. I run up to Alex. "Where's Anakin?" I asked. "I don't know," admitted Alex. "I had him and Ahsoka take the Huttlet into the castle while I dealt with Ventress and her droids." "And?" I asked. "We managed to hold them off, and I faced Ventress myself," Alex said. "But just as when I thought I had her, she bolted off after Anakin. I had to stay as more droids came. I couldn't abandon Rex and others to deal with them alone." "I understand once we deal with these droids. We'll try to contact him," I said. "It seems Obi-Wan's already off to look for him," Alex said, pointing. "Blast," I said. "Keep the droid occupied. I've got to help Obi-Wan." "Don't worry, brother. They're as good as scrap metal," Alex said. I smiled and ran after Obi-Wan. I knew that Ventress, with her unorthodox fighting techniques and lack of battle morality. She was unpredictable and dangerous. I wasn't going to let Obi-Wan face her alone. At that moment, I received a transmission from Tom on Tatooine. "What is it, Tom?" I asked. "I did as you asked, Master," he said. "Jabba is now aware of Dooku's plot, but he refuses to join us if we can't deliver his son home safely." "Great, keep tabs on Dooku, don't let him leave Tatooine. This may be our chance to catch him and end the war sooner," I instructed. "Yes, Master," Tom said. I ended the transmission and continued after Obi-Wan. We ran into the castle and quickly met up with Ventress, accompanied by two super battle droids. "Master Kenobi, Master Jones, always chasing after Skywalker," she said. "How predictable." "Anakin leaves quite a mess," Obi-Wan said. "Which manages to always lead us to you, Ventress," I added. "That's what I call predictable."

Obi-Wan and I raised our sabers in battle stances. "Take them," Ventress said as she activated her own twin sabers. The battle droids fired on us, and we deflected their fire. Ventress ran off, obviously going after Anakin and the Huttlet. "After her, Obi-Wan," I said. "I'll deal with these droids and join you." I rushed the droids and cut them both in half with one slash. Obi-Wan and I walked through a dark room filled with columns. We both could sense that Ventress was hiding in the shadows somewhere. "We know you're here, Ventress," I said. "You can't hide from us for long." "We feel your frustration," Obi-Wan said. "Let me guess, you're after Jabba's young son, too." Ventress jumped from behind us but not fast enough to surprise us. We turned, and each parried one of her sabers. This caused Ventress to have to jump back. She took off her skirt and threw it at Obi-Wan and me. I jumped back, but the skirt fell over Obi-Wan. Though, he managed to tear it off to block Ventress' attack. "You'll have to do better than that, my darling," he taunted. I quickly joined in and backed Ventress away from Obi-Wan. "He's right, you know," I added as Ventress was in a gridlock with me. "Your master will not be pleased with your failure, my dear." Obi-Wan joined back in, and soon Ventress managed to parry both our sabers out of our hands. "Well, now I'm impressed," Obi-Wan said. She backed us up into a column. "Now you die," she said. "That's what you think," I said. I raised my right hand up to my face and shot some Force Lighting. That blinded her while Obi-Wan retrieved his lightsaber. "Shall we continue?" he said. "My pleasure," Ventress said. While he kept her occupied, I retrieved my own lightsaber. "You may be strong with the Dark Side, young one," I said. "But you are no Count Dooku. Even his master, Darth Sidious, couldn't defeat me. What chance do you think you have?" My taunting clearly hit its mark as Ventress began to be sloppy in her lightsaber techniques. She tried her best, but Obi-Wan and I were able to dodge and block her every move.

We jumped up the pillars to some higher ground. Ventress, of course, followed us. "We know of Dooku's plot to turn the Hutts against us. It will not succeed," Obi-Wan said. "It will when the truth dies with you," Ventress said. "On the contrary, it has already failed Ventress," I said. That really made her mad. She ran at us, slicing the floor with her sabers as she went. Her attacks were as futile as they were before. As she jumped back, she put her twin sabers together into her staff saber. Obi-Wan saw a window and jumped through it. "He can't run," Ventress said. "Maybe, maybe not, but I don't mind finding out by joining him," I taunted. I jumped out the window and followed Obi-Wan. I could see what he was doing. If we could distract Ventress long enough for Anakin and Ahsoka to leave the system with the Huttlet. We could buy them time to get him home to Jabba without any further problems. As Ventress chased after us, we soon came outside onto a bridge. We stared her down until we all felt the same thing. Ventress had a surprised look on her face and looked around. "We sense it, too," I said. "Anakin is gone. You've failed, Ventress," Obi-Wan finished. She got really mad now and attacked us with unbound fury. Though against two high-ranking Jedi Masters, she was nothing. Try as she might, her skills were no match for our own. I had one side of Ventress' sabers pinned down, and I forced her back. Then to add injury to insult, Obi-Wan skillfully cut the connection between her sabers. If she wasn't mad at us before, she sure was now. Ventress attacked with both sabers. Obi-Wan and I brought our sabers together to counter hers. Our combined strength was enough to slam her sabers down from one side to the other. "Your master will not be pleased," Obi-Wan said. "Nor will his master," I added. We managed to swing one of Ventress' lightsabers out of her hands, and it fell to the far ground below.

Ventress seems to press a button on her wrist. "Jedi Scum," she said and attacked us again. However, with only one saber against the two of us. The odds of the fight were far against Ventress now. "The Hutt is safe. There's no point to fighting any longer," Obi-Wan said. "We've won. Lay down your weapon." "Don't be overconfident, Obi-Wan. They may yet have some tricks up their sleeves," I warned. I was proved right about a second later. A vulture droid flew by, and Ventress jumped down onto it, escaping our grasp. We deactivated our lightsabers as we watched her fly off. "See what I mean?" I asked. "I sense that Anakin and Ashoka may be walking into another trap. I have to contact Tom immediately." We both rushed downstairs to rendezvous with our troops. There was still a battle to finish, however. Obi-Wan headed for Rex while I joined Fox. "Fox, did General Skywalker get safely on board his cruiser?" I asked. "Negative, sir," Fox said. "Enemy fighters blocked his landing, and he escaped on a G9 Rigger Freighter. Pretty badly beaten up too. I'd be surprised if he manages to make it to Tatooine in that junker." "Great," I said as I deflected enemy fire. "Though if anyone can fly a bucket of bolts safely through hyperspace, he can. You should have seen him as boy racing pods." "I need to contact Master Tom at once and tell him to keep his eye out for that ship. R3 returned with my starfighter through the enemy fire and landed safely behind the lines. He contacted Tom for me. I told Tom that he needed to keep his eye open for the freighter that Anakin was traveling in. He promised to do so and see that the Huttlet was returned home in safety. "Now, to finish this fight," I said. I rushed at the droids, and many of my Jedi joined me. We managed to destroy the remaining droids. Obi-Wan joined me to discuss our next move. "We have to get Tatooine now," I said. "I sense Dooku will try to kill the Huttlet to prevent us from getting Jabba alliance." At that moment, Obi-Wan received a transmission from Anakin. "Obi-Wan, come it! Do you copy?" Anakin said. "Kenobi, here. Anakin, have you reached Tatooine yet?" Obi-Wan asked. "Almost, but we ran into some old…" Anakin started. "Anakin, did you get shot down again?" Obi-Wan asked. "Yes!" Ashoka said. "This ship is too slow," Anakin protested. "I haven't had time to modify it yet." "Just get down to the planet's surface," I said. "Master Tom and other Aspirants are waiting for you there. They'll help you get to Jabba's Palace." "We're still cleaning up your other mess, but we'll get there," Obi-Wan finished. Once we cleaned up the last of the droids on Teth, Obi-Wan and I returned to our cruised and contacted Master Yoda on Coruscant. "Anakin has reached Tatooine with Huttlet, Master," I said. "Master Tom and others of my Aspirants are there waiting to help him to Jabba's Palace. Though I fear they are still in grave danger." "Separatist troops are desperate to intercept him. We think this whole plot was engineered by Dooku to convince Jabba that we kidnapped his son," Obi-Wan said. "If believe this, the Hutts do, ended will our chance of treaty with them be," Master Yoda said. "Join Dooku and the Separatists; Jabba will, yes." "That would be a disaster," Chancellor Palpatine said. "We must have this alliance with the Hutts if we are to win the war in the Outer Rim." "That is why I had Master Tom reveal the whole thing to Jabba already," I assured them both. "Jabba is playing along with Dooku, for now, to keep him off track, but he still refuses to join us if we can't deliver his son home alive." "Then fail in this Skywalker must not," Master Yoda said. "Anakin's experience with the Hutts should help. He'll come through," Obi-Wan said. We ended the transmission. "I admire your confidence in your old Padawan Obi-Wan," I said. "But getting to Tatooine and lending him a hand couldn't go a miss like everything else that has lately." "I agree, Master," Obi-Wan said. We set course for Tatooine and left Teth soon after.

We were already past the deadline to get Jabba's son home, so I wasn't sure how Jabba might react one way or the other. We had to get to Tatooine fast. I contacted Tom to get an update. "Tom, have you rendezvoused with Skywalker yet?" I asked. "No, Master, his ship crashed in the middle of the Dune Sea," Tom said. "We are having a hard time contacting and locating him. His transmitter might have been damaged in the crash. Plus, Dooku and several of his Magnaguard droids are searching for them. They are causing us some trouble in our efforts." "I see," I said. "Keep trying. Obi-Wan and I are on our way and will join you shortly." I knew that my personal reputation with Jabba and all the Hutts was in jeopardy here. My friendship with them allowed me several opportunities most Jedi didn't get. I had inside information about several criminal gangs and organizations that proved useful to the Jedi Order. However, if we failed, I knew all my connections would vanish. It was the night cycle before we managed to make it to Tatooine. I jumped into my Jedi Starfighter and left to find Anakin. I trusted in the Force to lead me to him. Which it did. I found him alone with a backpack. I landed near him and rushed to him. "Anakin, my boy. I'm so glad I found you alive," I said. "The feeling is mutual, Master," Anakin said. "That makes three of us," a voice echoed in the sands. Dooku came up on a Flitknot Speeder Bike. "Dooku," I said. Both Anakin and I activated our lightsabers. "Surrender the Huttlet or die, Jedi," Dooku commanded. "Not a chance Dooku," I said. "Your plot has already failed. Jabba knows everything. I've made sure of that." "But how will you secure a treaty will him if his son dies," Dooku said. He shot Force Lighting at us, which Anakin and I blocked with our lightsabers. Once he stopped, I shot some lighting of my own at him. Dooku deflected it away with his hand. He dropped his hood and drew his lightsaber.

As he charged, I went in first and countered him. "Anakin, get out of here now," I shouted to him. Though, Anakin being who he was, didn't listen. Instead, he jumped right into the fight. We each exchanged blows with Dooku, and I could sense he was impressed. "Your training has come a long way, boy," he said. "Too bad I can't say the same for you, Dooku," I said. I jumped over his head and kicked him to the ground. That got him mad. As he fought both Anakin and me, he relaxed a little. Which put me on edge. "Now I remember," he said, turning to Anakin. "This was your home planet, wasn't it? I sense your strong feelings. Feelings of pain, loss." I knew Dooku was bringing up Anakin's mother. I felt partly responsible for that. If I had found a way for Anakin to visit her earlier or kept better tabs on her. I could have prevented her death. I jumped at Dooku, and I used the Force to blow some sand at him. Anakin joined me, and we had Dooku covered by a wave of sand. Dooku soon repelled the sand with his own Force Push, which surprised Anakin. He fell and lost his lightsaber. I covered Anakin and backed the Count away from him. "Your master is a fool to keep you," I taunted. "Your failure here will only further damage his plans. You can not win, Dooku." "That remains to be seen," Dooku countered. As Anakin was making a break for it, Dooku jumped at him and cut into his backpack. "You've failed Jedi. I have just killed Jabba's son," Dooku said. He didn't know I was recording the whole thing. Plus, I could sense Anakin had something up his sleeve. "You've fallen for my little trick, Count," Anakin said. "It's nothing but rocks." Anakin emptied his pack to show it was indeed just rocks. "The Huttlet is with my Padawan, safely at Jabba's Palace," Anakin finished. "No doubt joining up with my Aspirants," I said. "Who should be showing the recording I just made to Jabba right now. Therefore, making you an enemy to us both and an alliance is assured." "Ah, but I expected such treachery from a Jedi," Dooku said. "I assure you my web is strong enough to catch your insignificant little Padawan and your Aspirants." "She's more skillful than you think," Anakin said. "As are my Jedi Dooku. Though they may have the pleasure of delivering Jabba's son to him. We will have to pleasure of delivering you to Jabba," I said.

I jumped at the Count and attacked him. "You deceive yourself, Master Jedi," Dooku said with venom in his voice. He was clearly unhappy with how I had outmaneuvered him in this chess game. He was slipping in his technique, and Anakin could see it too. I felt sure that we could capture him for the Hutts and the Republic. Though Count Dooku wasn't going to be caught easily. He pushed us back and showed us an image of Ashoka against the Magnaguard on her own. "Tom, where are you," I asked under my breath. We attacked Dooku again and tripped him up. On Dooku's holocommunicator, we could see Ashoka was struggling. "After my droids kill Jabba's son, they will deliver your Padawan to him for punishment for the Huttlet's murder," Dooku said. "You still think you can turn Jabba against us, Dooku," I said. "I can certainly keep trying," Dooku said. "And I can't imagine he will be merciful." "Do or do not. There is no try, remember," I said, using a quote from our common master. At that moment, I received a transmission from Tom. "Master, we found Padawan Tano and the Huttlet by Jabba's Palace. We're moving in to help her now," he said. "Looks like you lose again, Dooku," I said. "Anakin go help Ahsoka. I'll deal with our friend here." Anakin ran as fast as his legs could carry him before taking Dooku's bike and headed toward Jabba's Palace. I jumped at Dooku, but he rolled away. He called his lightsaber back to him, and our duel resumed. Dooku and I were evenly matched for multiple reasons. We both trained as Master Yoda's Padawan and were both masters of the Makashi lightsaber form. We struggled to gain an advantage over the other. I soon backed Dooku up toward an old skeleton in the sand. Once we were underneath it, he used the Force to pull it down on top of me and ran off in a flash of sand clouds. I used the Force to keep the skeleton from trapping me, but it allowed Dooku to escape me once again. Alex came and found me once the sand clouds settled. I shook my robes from the sand as Alex came up to me. "Brother, are you alright?" Alex asked. "I'm fine Alex, but Dooku got away again," I said. "We'll never find him in the dark in this desert. Let's rendezvous back the others at Jabba's Palace quickly." "Of course, Brother," Alex said. We both got on a sand speeder that Alex brought and headed for Jabba's Palace. We soon found Ahsoka facing down two Magnaguards on her own. It looks like they managed to separate her from Tom and the others. Alex and I jumped off the speed and engaged the droids. Magnaguards are tough opponents even for Jedi. Because they fight with electro staff that can withstand lightsaber strikes. They are programmed to have agility and strength that match our own.

Though they don't have programming to be intelligent which gave us the advantage. Alex and I each attacked one Magnaguard. I exchanged blows with mine before I swung his staff out, opening him up for a shift stab in the middle. The droid deactivated and I saw Alex slash his right down the middle. "Ahsoka, are you alright young one?" I asked. "Yes, Master," she said. "Thank you both." "Our pleasure young Padawan," Alex said. "Now we have to get back to Jabba now." "Agreed," I said. We took Ahsoka into the speeder and rushed the door of Jabba's palace. His guards were there waiting for us. "We need to see Jabba now," I said in Huttese. "We have someone he wants to see." Ahsoka showed the guards the Huttlet. We rushed quickly into the throne room. I could hear that Jabba was not happy with Anakin suddenly bursting into his palace. "Stop," Ahsoka said. "Jabba my friend, we have your son safe and sound. As we promised," I said speaking Huttese. Ahsoka brought the young Huttlet up to his father. "Rotta, is that you? Are you okay?" Jabba asked. Young Rotta soon woke up and smiled happily at his father. "My punky muffin, you're okay," Jabba said taking his son from Ahsoka. "We return your son safe and sound Jabba, as we promised," I said. "But you were behind the deadline. Kill the Jedi," Jabba said. "You are to be executed immediately," Jabba's protocol droid said. "What," Anakin, Ahsoka, Alex and I all said together. "Great, there goes my friendship with the Hutts," I said. "Not to mention our lives," Alex added. We all drew our lightsabers and prepared to defend ourselves. We came back-to-back with each other with R2 in the middle of us. "Does this always happen to you?" Ahsoka asked. "Everywhere I go," Anakin replied. "Welcome to the life of a Jedi Ahsoka," I added. "Let's hope it's not your last day," Alex said. As Rotta was crying clearly scared there was a beeping sound. "Your Uncle Ziro is contacting us," the protocol droid said. Ziro was a purple Hutt that had a sleezy bar in the lower parts of Coruscant. He spoke both Huttese and Galactic Basic as result. I never really liked that Hutt much nor did any of the Hutt family for that matter. Which is why I wondered what he was calling about. Though it did buy us some time to come up with a plan of escape. The protocol droid answered the call and Padmé's image appeared. "Greetings, honorable Jabba," she said. "I am Senator Amidala of the Galactic Congress. I have discovered a plot against you by one of your own. Your uncle will admit that he conspired with Count Dooku to kidnap your son and frame the Jedi for the crime." With that the image of Ziro appeared. "Ziro, is what the senator saying true?" Jabba asked. "I'm afraid that it is Jabba," Ziro answered. "How could you do such a thing to me?" Jabba asked harshly. "It wasn't me Jabba," Ziro protested. "It was Count Dooku." He switched to Basic on that last part.

"The Hutt Family will deal you severely Ziro you scum bag," Jabba shouted. "Ziro will be dealt with by the Hutt family most severely," the protocol droid said. "Perhaps now you will allow the Republic to use your trade routes and hostilities can come to an end," Padmé said. Jabba agreed happily after he laughed for a moment. "Jabba agrees," translated the protocol droid. "A treaty is in order." We were able to deactivate our lightsabers knowing we were out of danger. "You will not regret this, Jabba," Padmé said. "I'm sorry about all the trouble between us Master Jones," Jabba said to me. "I was just so worried about my son, but now I see that you and your Jedi never lied to me." "It's alright Jabba, I can understand your concern for your son," I answered in Huttese. "The Republic may travel through my territories as they need to," Jabba said. "The clone armies may move through Jabba's territories," the protocol droid said. "Senator, you have my undying gratitude," Anakin said. "That makes two of us," I said in Basic. "No, Master Jedi, it is I and the Republic, who owes you thanks," Padmé insisted. Anakin and Padmé looked at each other with the deep love that I knew they had. Padmé ended the transmission right there. Rotta cooed happily at us. "Jabba would be most appreciative if you bring Dooku to justice for his crimes against the Hutts," the protocol droid said. "You can count on it, Jabba," Anakin said. "He's an enemy to us all now," I said. With that our treaty and alliance with the Hutts was sealed. The Republic would have the safe routes into the Outer Rim and have an edge against Dooku and the Separatists. We walked outside to find that Master Yoda and Obi-Wan had brought gunships to pick us up. Though no words were spoken, I knew that they were congratulating Ahsoka and Anakin on their accomplished mission. We all waved Jabba and his son goodbye as we left on the gunships to continue the war and our hunt for Dooku. I later learned that Padmé had Ziro locked up in the high security prison on Coruscant. He was to be held there until the Hutt Council told us what was to be done with him. They decided for the time being to let him rot there. That's how we gained our alliance with the Hutt Clans and our next advantage over Dooku.
