Hi all! This is my first story, inspired by a day dream I keep having. Hope you all enjoy!

3 months had passed since the defeat of the evil kid Buu by Goku. The Earth had gone back to normality at last. The nightmare that was Buu seemed like a distant fever dream, barely real. Chichi was determined to steer her family back to 'normality', whatever that meant. It was decided that Gohan and Videl were to take a weekend visit to a museum, travelling via jetcopter. It was a mundane activity, but it was normal.

Still, Gohan was distracted. Normally, he'd be thrilled to visit the museum. Today, however, all he could do was slouch in the passenger seat and stare wistfully through the window. It had been 15 minutes since he'd uttered a word, and the silence was deafening.

"So, Gohan…What are you looking forward to seeing? I heard they have a wicked ancient weapon exhibit going on. Seeing the primitive stuff verses our modern day tech is going to be so cool!" Videl prodded, trying to initiate conversation. Gohan didn't respond.

Videl tried again. "Did you still wanna see the bugs first though? I heard they have over a hundred different species of beetle."

"Of course you can." Gohan replied, clearly not paying attention. He hadn't even looked up. He hadn't looked her way the entire journey.

Videl sighed, exasperated. "Look Gohan, if you don't want to be here, you could have just told me. We don't have to go if you don't want to."

He looked up at her, finally snapping out of the haze. "What? Of course I still wanna go."

"Are you okay? You're off your game today. Did I say or do something?" Videl asked.

This time, Gohan sighed. He had so many thoughts running through his brain, so many things he needed to articulate, so many times he'd practised in his head what he needed to say. Still, the words proved almost impossible to form. He ran his hand through his hair and stared into his lap, trying to carefully choose his words.

"No, you haven't done a thing wrong. I have. Or I think I have. I don't know." Videl didn't speak. She knew she just needed to listen.

"…Back on the Kai planet, the elder Kai wouldn't train me. Not even if Buu destroyed everything. Dad was trying to convince him to. He told him he'd get to kiss an Earth woman and asked me to ask you to do it." Gohan spoke into his lap and a redness drew across his face. He dared not look up at Videl.

"Do I need to kiss an old guy?" Videl asked quietly. She cringed at the thought, but if it was the cost of saving the world, what harm was it really? Regardless of the fact she still hadn't had a first kiss at 17, and it was super embarrassing, and an old alien was so not the alien she wanted to be her first kiss. Videl stole glances at Gohan, who had balled up his fists and looked tense.

"Absolutely not. You don't have to kiss anyone, and I'm sorry you were even brought up. I'm sorry I wasn't strong enough to beat him. I could have won if I hadn't been so selfish." Gohan sounded morose. "I stopped training after Cell. I got complacent. I literally let the world blow up. I let so many people die. I let you die."

Despite wanting to interject and protest, Videl remained silent.

"I thought because Cell was gone, Earth would be safe forever. I just assumed everything would be fine. So I just stopped. I'm stronger than my dad. I'm stronger than Vegeta. I just don't like fighting. And that meant you died. And then everything with the elder Kai…" Gohan stopped for a while, fidgeting with his hands.

"When dad asked me if I could get you to kiss him, I kinda lost it a bit. I yelled at him. I said I wouldn't let 'my girlfriend' kiss that old relic. And I'm sorry. I know you aren't my girlfriend, and I don't want you think I feel entitled to you just because we went through all that together. I just got so mad in the moment because that's what I want, really. Please don't think anything has to change just because I'm actually in love with you. I respect you. I need you in my life, regardless of if you think of me the way I think of you."

Videl looked over at Gohan. His face was red, his fists were balled up and his knuckles were white. Her face was thoughtful. It was driving him mad.

"Do you need me to just listen, or do you want my opinion?" she simply replied.

Gohan laughed wryly and turned toward her. "You have no idea how much I need you to say something right now."

"Your dad told us you died, you know. That Buu killed you. Your mom passed out. We were all just in shock. For a moment, I believed it. I couldn't breathe, and then I was angry. At them because they kept saying it, at you because you died. But then it was like I could feel you, somewhere far away from me, but I knew you were alive. There was no way you could be dead, like no way." Videl spoke with a slight smile. "Then we all died, and we were looking for you in the otherworld. I know I can't feel life energy like you can, but I swear I could feel you somewhere. Being close to you is all I wanted. It's all I still want."

He stared at her in disbelief, not knowing how to process what she just said. "So…what exactly does that mean?"

This time Videl laughed. "You don't think that means it's obvious I love you too? Do you know how long I've wanted to hear you say that?" Videl reached for his hand and held it in hers. He was warm and comforting, just like she knew he'd be. "Elder Kai can suck it, for all he knows, I am your girlfriend."

"Does this make this our first date?" Gohan asked hopefully, a smile creeping across his handsome features.

"I suppose it does."
