A/N: Of course you are eager about finding out how Molly and Arthur will react and we also get the reaction of three brothers! (The rest will come eventually). I hope you enjoy the Weasley banter! Next chapter you will get the reaction of one more brother and of course the friend group, who will have lots to say.
"Hey Ron, where are you?" Ginny asked when he picked up her call. She looked over at Harry who offered a reassuring smile.
"Are you in trouble? You never just call me," Ron asked in a worried tone.
"I have some news, if you are free to come over… I am in Harry's dorm," she spoke.
"Are you okay?" he asked again. "I'll be there in a minute."
"Yes, I am fine. Just come." She put her phone down and looked at Harry. "He's coming."
She had barely put her phone down when Ron walked in. She pulled him inside and he frowned at her but followed her.
"I am telling mum and dad before dinner tonight, but I just want to give you a head's up," she told him.
"Ginny." He raised his eyebrows. "What did you do?"
"It's not bad. I think?" She sighed.
Harry shuffled his feet and Ron glanced at him and back to her, waiting for her to speak.
Ginny glanced at Harry, who gave her a small smile, which was the encouragement she needed. "I am pregnant."
Ron's eyes flickered between the two of them and it was silent for a moment. "You're kidding?"
She shook her head. "No."
Ron seemed to have stopped functioning entirely. He simply stared at her.
"I am almost three months," she went on.
Ron's face turned red, but she couldn't tell if it was from surprise or anger. He shook his head. "Three months?!" he let out. "Three months?"
"Yeah..." she reached out for Harry without looking and his arm swooped around her side.
Ron looked up at Harry and frowned, as if he was still trying to make up his mind about how he felt about Harry's involvement in it. "So... you are going to raise a baby together?" he said.
Ginny looked up at Harry and he smiled softly at her. "Yes," he said before looking back at Ron.
She thought he seemed to be handling it reasonably well. "And you can be fun Uncle Ron."
Ron stood there for a while, silent, as he processed the information. He kept looking at the two of them.
He shook his head warily and stepped to her. Harry released her and Ron wrapped his arms around her. "I guess congratulations are in order."
She hugged him tighter. "Thank you."
Ron released her and he looked over at Harry. "I know I wanted you together but this is... kind of major. You two having a kid together is a little crazy."
Harry chuckled. "I know. And my kid is going to be related to you. It's terrible really."
Ron huffed with indignance. "Don't push it, Harry. You are now indefinitely connected to the Weasleys and there are a lot of us. You better keep me on your side."
She shook her head at her brother. "He's got me on his side."
"I have to admit this is a bit of a shock," Ron said. "And you're telling mum and dad today?"
She nodded. "I am worried about that too."
"I get that," he agreed. "I am sure it will be okay. They like Harry so..."
"For now," Harry added.
Ron looked at him and grimaced. "Well, you have a good track record until now, that can only help. Do your parents know yet?"
Harry nodded. "Told them yesterday. It is becoming a Potter tradition, I wasn't planned either."
Ron's eyebrows shot up. "Our tradition is Christmas jumpers but I guess it's as good as any."
Harry squeezed her knee after he parked in front of the Weasley's house.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
She nodded silently. She was anxious, more so than she had been yesterday because now it was her parents.
"Should I be worried?" he asked carefully.
She let out a big sigh. "Don't even worry about that. I wouldn't let them." She squeezed his hand before they both got out of the car.
She walked into the house and her mum greeted her as she came into the hallway.
Molly met her eyes, her hands touching her daughter's cheeks, her eyes inquisitive before she wrapped Ginny in a hug in silence. She released Ginny and looked at Harry. "Harry, good to see you again."
"Good to see you too," Harry replied politely.
They all walked to the living room and sat down. She had told her parents they had some news and the tension hung in the room. She looked at both her parents. Her dad, his kind eyes focused on her and she hoped he wasn't too disappointed in her. Her mum was caring and welcoming, but she was not one to mess with either. She felt her anxiety rise and decided to cut right to the chase.
"I'm pregnant."
Her father's eyes widened slightly in surprise, but her mom simply nodded. Ginny stood up and stood sideways, lifting her shirt to reveal her stomach. "You can already see it. Small but definitely there." She looked at her mum and they shared a look of mutual understanding.
Molly looked tearful. "I took one look at those round cheeks... considering you had news..."
She nodded. "That's why I didn't come home when I got 'sick', I assumed you would figure it out and I wasn't ready to tell." It felt good to get that off her chest too.
Her mum stood up and wrapped her into a hug. "Oh, sweetheart. You shouldn't worry about that, I'm your mother."
She was relieved as she wrapped her arms around her mum. "I know... I just worried... I know this was quick and unexpected." Tears started dripping down her face, emotion taking over her voice. "But I knew I wanted the baby and so..." She trailed off. Her mother rubbed her back.
Both Harry and her father stood up too. Harry carefully checked if she was okay, and she softly smiled at him.
Arthur met Harry's eyes. "You're going to be a dad?"
"Yes, looks like it."
Arthur pulled Harry into a hug too and clapped his back before releasing him.
Her mum finally let go of her too. "How far along are you?"
"3 months." She wiped her tears.
Her mum nodded. "Yes, I thought so." Molly went and hugged Harry too. "And you? Have you talked to your parents yet?"
"Yes, we visited them on Friday. They were okay with it," he reassured her.
Ginny took out the ultrasound and showed it to her parents. They both looked tearful.
"It's a girl, the due date is the first of January." She handed the ultrasound over and her mum took it, her hand slightly shaking.
Harry squeezed Ginny's shoulder.
Arthur wiped a tear away. "I wasn't ready for my youngest to be grown-up," he spoke. He pulled her into a hug. "How can I pretend you're still my little girl when you have a kid of your own?"
"I know," Ginny said. "But you'll have a new little girl to dote on."
"What about vitamins?" Molly interrupted. "Have you been taking them?"
"I've known since I was five weeks. I have been taking vitamins the whole time. I am healthy and the baby is too," she said, sensing more questions were coming her way.
"And what about your studies?" Molly asked with concern.
Ginny looked at Harry. "We will both try to finish our studies next year but I will obviously miss some exams considering my due date so it may take a year longer. But yes, I do intend on finishing them. It's important to me." Her parents worked hard to make sure their kids could study, and she did not take it for granted.
Ginny watched as her mother walked to the bookcase and took out several books about pregnancy.
"I mean, what can I say? I had Bill when we were 20." She put the books on the table. "You should read all those."
"Thank you, mum."
"You have to come by with the kid, all the time. Don't be like Bill and move to another country. I want to see my grandbabies." She sounded emotional.
"You're going to see the kid so much you'll get sick of it," Ginny said with a smile.
"That's impossible," her mum responded. Her hands folded together as she sat back down and the rest followed, settling back on the couch.
"This was maybe not the news you were expecting today, huh?" Ginny wondered out loud. "Before I walked in anyway..."
"My biggest worry was you quitting studying. Or I thought maybe perhaps you two eloped," her mum admitted. Her soft brown eyes bored into hers.
Ginny took a breath. "Weird, Harry's mum thought that too."
Mrs Weasley looked at her a little amused. "You two are clearly very in love. And you are a bit impulsive."
Ginny cleared her throat and scratch behind her ear. "I've got nothing to say in my defence." She thought she caught Harry smiling from the corner of her eye.
"How did your parents react?" Arthur asked Harry.
Harry met his eyes. "I wasn't planned either, so they were understanding. They do find becoming grandparents at 45 a little bit crazy."
Her father smiled sympathetically. "I imagine it would be."
"Now I just need to tell all my idiot brothers." She shook her head. "Except Ron."
"Is that why he said he was coming later?" Molly asked.
Ginny nodded. "We told him earlier just so he knew."
"Are you feeling alright?" her mum asked now, looking her up and down.
"Yes, mum," she reassured Molly. "Nausea has been pretty manageable... except for that one week but I got the hang of it. Harry helped a lot."
Her mum nodded in silence.
"They screened for a whole bunch of things and the ultrasound was fine too. I'm healthy, the baby is healthy. Harry's been pestering me about eating proper meals…"
Harry huffed. "Well, you just forget to eat."
Arthur chuckled. "We know."
"Does anyone want tea?" Mrs Weasley asked as she stood up.
Everyone nodded and she made her way to the kitchen.
Ginny stood up too. "Are you good here?" she asked Harry.
He nodded and she walked into the kitchen to speak to her mum without the two men.
"You're not angry at me?" Ginny asked, because the fear was still simmering somewhere in her chest.
Her mum looked up in surprise, her expression softening. "Of course not, dear. These things happen, I know that too. To be fair, out of all your boyfriends… Harry's a pretty good choice to have kids with."
"Harry and I... right off the bat we were talking about how serious we were, because we could tell that was the case. We didn't talk about kids yet. We didn't get around to it because I found out after a month that I was pregnant. We would want kids, just not right now."
"I know you wanted kids but what about Harry?" Molly asked, taking out cups for everyone as the kettle started to boil.
Ginny shot her a theatrical look. "He didn't know he wanted a girlfriend; he clearly doesn't know what's good for him."
Her mum crossed her arms and looked at her to give a serious answer.
"He said he had already considered it before we found out. He knew I wanted kids and we spoke about staying together long-term, so he knew prepared for that. Still, it must have been quite a mental leap for him." She looked at her mum. "He was single and not planning to date four months ago. Now he's going to be a dad." She smiled softly. "It amazes me all the time how he is handling all of this, how prepared he is for any for it. He bought the baby her first romper."
Molly smiled sweetly. "That's sweet of him."
"He told me he came across it by chance and bought it but I don't believe that." She looked towards the living. "Pretty sure he went looking for it. He has been the sweetest and he makes me happy."
Molly patted her cheek. "Good, I want you to be happy."
As her mum began setting the tea, Ginny returned to the living room to see how Harry was holding up. She found him and her dad looking at her baby photos. She squeezed between them and wrapped her arms around Harry's waist. "How many embarrassing photos of me have you seen?"
"Not too many," he responded with a smile. "You were an adorable baby; I hope she looks like you."
"Right, let me just concentrate on that, maybe it'll work." She scrunched up her face.
"Maybe it'll get stuck with that face," her dad pointed out with a chuckle.
Ginny's face dropped, but it was playful. "Fine. I guess I'll leave it be." She took the photo book out of her dad's hands and closed it. "Let's leave the more embarrassing photos for another time, there's only so much I can cope with in one day."
"Come get your tea," Molly called from the kitchen. "I'll start on dinner."
Ginny stood in the doorway. "Maybe Harry can help you cook?"
Molly looked surprised and watched as Harry came to stand beside Ginny. "You cook, Harry?"
"Better than me," she responded.
"That's a relief," her dad muttered. "We wouldn't want the kid to have to sit through Ginny's cooking."
"Very funny." She rolled her eyes. "I've been cooking for myself these past few years most of the time and I'm still alive. I've improved. That doesn't mean I have a passion for cooking. The kid wouldn't starve."
Harry walked into the kitchen. "I'm happy to help out."
Ginny walked in too and grabbed a mug of tea.
Her dad came in with the newspaper. "Crossword?" he asked Ginny.
"Yes, please. It's been ages," she replied.
He sat down next to his daughter with the newspaper and opened it to the crossword puzzle. They both started reading the clues.
"I don't mean to pry…" Molly started. "But what happened when you went missing? We were all very worried…"
Ginny looked up at Harry with worry, ready to divert the conversation if need be.
Harry replied with ease. "It was a witness protection type of situation. My parents had to appear in court, so we were moved until it was over. It's all classified, even I don't know much about it."
Ginny focused back on the crossword.
"Really, how did that happen?" Molly asked further and Ginny was about to tell her mum off for hearing him out without reservation.
"Wrong place, wrong time, I guess?" Harry responded, returning his focus to the vegetables.
"Five letters, part of a car?" Ginny tried, hoping her mum would give up on her line of questioning.
"Motor?" Harry suggested.
"I don't think that fits," Arthur responded as he looked across the letters.
"Wheel?" Harry tried then.
"Ah, that's it!" Ginny said, letting her dad write it down. She looked back up. "Oh, I'm currently not eating tomatoes so please skip those."
Harry clarified, "She can't even smell them."
"There are no tomatoes on the menu today." Her mum smiled.
"My roommate doesn't know yet but she caught on I was not liking tomatoes and now she's buying them on purpose," Ginny said.
"What are you doing about it?" Molly asked.
Ginny shrugged. "Go hang out in Harry's dorm."
"Your roommate doesn't mind?" Molly asked him.
"Neville is his roommate," Ginny explained, having mentioned him before. "Otherwise with Felicia it just becomes her complaints against mine, it's no use."
"She's making complaints against you?" Arthur asked with concern.
"Yeah, nothing major. She sometimes makes noise complaints while I'm not even there, she just makes stuff up! I don't know what I did to her…"
"Maybe she's bitter I turned her down." Harry grinned at her. "Twice."
"Don't flatter yourself, it's not like she has stellar taste otherwise." She smiled because she knew he wouldn't retort in front of her parents.
Her mum shot her a firm look. "Don't be so mean to him."
"It's okay, I built up a tolerance," he told Molly with a charming smile. Ginny knew he was trying to get on their good side.
"Still."
Ginny turned her attention back to the crossword with her dad as Harry cooked with her mum, chatting away about the perfect way to sauté. Ginny didn't care to listen in.
When they solved the puzzle, she set the table. When she passed by the stove, Harry grabbed onto her hand and softly asked, "Are you okay?"
Suddenly she felt tears prickling behind her eyes again. Curse the hormones. Harry pulled her close with his free arm, the other busy stirring the vegetables. Her mum appeared and locked eyes with her.
"I was really nervous about coming here today," she explained from against Harry's chest. "And these stupid hormones make me cry all the time."
"Sweetheart, we only want you to be happy. I think you're old enough to make your own decisions. I don't even have to agree with all of them. I will however worry about you because I am your mother." She held open her arms.
Ginny let go of Harry and hugged her mum. "Thank you."
Her mum wiped her tears for her after releasing her. Ginny continued setting the table.
"I'll take over, Harry. Thanks for the help," Molly told him.
Harry moved away from the stove and came to stand beside her. She found his hand and took it, entwining her fingers before she leaned against him. He squeezed her hand softly.
"Hello?" Fred asked. "Oh, everyone is in the kitchen. Hi."
Ginny let go of Harry's hand and greeted both her brothers before dragging them into the living room. She nodded for Harry to follow.
"Oh, right. You had something to say Ron said. A happy announcement?" Fred asked.
"Hold that thought," Ginny responded as Harry came to stand beside her. Now having told her parents and Ron, she felt less worried about telling Fred and George. "We are having a baby."
"A happy announcement indeed," George commented, then paused. "Right?"
She nodded. "Yes, more or less a happy announcement."
He smiled and then his eyes widened. "Wait a minute... How far along are you?"
"Due in January," she told them.
Both started to count on their fingers.
"I am three months," she deadpanned.
Both looked up curiously, their gaze switching from Ginny to Harry, a knowing look in their eyes.
"Harry." Fred approached and George followed.
"Harry…" The latter patted his shoulder.
Harry visibly gulped. "Yes?"
"Welcome to the family!" Fred said. They shook his hand.
Relief washed over Harry's face. "...Thanks."
Ginny sniggered. "I thought you were about to cry."
"Me too," Harry admitted, smiling again now.
George turned back at her. "You know there's already enough of us Weasleys."
Ginny looked at Harry. "Yeah, but there aren't many Potters." She smiled at him and he met her eyes.
"You figured you'd do your part?" George said.
Ginny nodded, joking. "Well, yeah. Take one for the team."
Harry shook his head. "That's a poor choice of words," he muttered but at least Fred and George let it slip.
"Well, at least mum can stop nagging us about getting married and having kids. Don't think she ever recovered from Bill moving to France." Fred sounded hopeful.
"Yes, now if Ron can just get married, the pressure is entirely off us," George said.
"Why not Percy?" Harry asked.
"If you know someone crazy enough to marry Percy, let me know," he replied.
"Ron does need to find a girl first," Fred thought out loud.
Ginny met eyes with Harry and they both tried to hide their smile but it didn't go unnoticed.
Fred gasped. "What do you know? Is there a girl?"
Ginny folded her arms and took a step back. "I can only tell you if you promise not to tell him. I don't think he has figured it out himself."
"Silent as the grave," Fred said. "Now spill the beans."
Ginny explained to them the situation between Ron and Hermione.
"What do you think, Harry?" George asked.
"They are graduating soon so I think they're about to realise they won't see each other again unless they keep contact. That's bound to lead to a date, right?" Harry told him. "I have been dropping hints he should ask her out but so far he hasn't caught on yet.'
"You should've seen them on the debate team together, it's very passionate," Ginny commented. The front door opened. She continued in a whisper. "Anyway, I think Ron just arrived. Remember, not a word."
"You got it," George said, looking serious.
A moment later Ron stepped into the room and they pretended they weren't just talking about it. He looked around cautiously. "How is everyone?"
"You can relax," she told her. "Everyone took the news pretty well."
Ron let out a breath of relief. "Good. I wasn't ready to pick sides."
They all walked into the kitchen as the food was nearly ready.
"Oh, look, mum. All your favourite children are here!" Fred commented.
Their mum whipped around. "Fred!"
"My bad." He held his hands up. "Charlie isn't here."
"I don't have favourites!" she said.
"Maybe Ginny has fallen from grace now that she's having a bastard child," George suggested.
"Can't be," Ron added. "Bill was almost a bastard."
"Hey!" Harry objected. "Don't call my baby a bastard."
George turned to him. "Look, that is the technical term."
"Bill is still a bastard," Fred supplied. "Following some French hag to France..."
"Can we not talk about her?" Ginny moaned as she sat down at the table. "She triggers my nausea."
Ron snorted. "Using the pregnancy card already, are we?"
She shrugged. "May as well." She smiled up at him.
George put his arm around Harry's shoulder. "Has she been using that on you?"
"Of course," he said. "But she hasn't used 'this is your fault' yet so I think we are doing pretty good."
"That's bound to happen," Ginny agreed, already helping herself to one of the sides. She turned around and met his eyes with a mischievous glint. "And if I tell him his daughter is hungry, what is he supposed to do?"
"You gave her unlimited power." George shook his head. "Grave, grave mistake."
Harry nodded. "At least she'll be a little bit slower in a few months."
Ginny put potatoes into her mouth. "I am pregnant, not deaf," she told them with a mouthful of potatoes, which earned her a judging look. "Oh, I am eating for two, shut up."
"Boys, sit down," Molly said, putting the other pots on the table.
Harry sat down beside Ginny and her brothers sat down too.
"I do have to say, one day you were in soccer with us and now... we are here and you and my sister are... having a baby together," Fred said. "Even if you break up, you'll always have a kid together."
Ginny put down her fork. "No one is breaking up with anybody," she said.
Fred folded his hands. "Just percentage-wise, out of curiosity, of all your relationships... when did you do the breaking up?"
Harry looked over at her and squeezed her knee. Everyone scooped food on their plates as they continued discussing;
"About 66%," she replied, unbothered by the question.
"Okay, and now without counting Harry?" Fred continued.
"... 80% and I recently found out the other 20% was Harry's fault," she said with a nod towards him.
"Please tell me you broke up her and Matthew?" Ron asked eagerly.
Harry shook his head. "No! Matthew took up much of her attention; I didn't have many details at all."
"Sounds like he was jealous..." George said.
"I wasn't jealous!" Harry objected.
Ron leaned in. "Really? Because when there was that kitchen fire you basically ran into each other's arms... I really thought you were together then... but no."
"If you may remember," Harry replied, getting heated. "I didn't even know they had broken up until after."
"Why did you think we were together?" Ginny asked.
"You were so worried and then he came out and you hugged... and then you were holding his hands and cuddling close and—" Ron stopped when he noticed their mum listening along.
The conversation stalled.
Ginny looked around at the table. "I don't remember that. And you can't possibly think we were that oblivious?"
"Yes, you were!" Ron argued. Fred and George nodded too.
Ginny looked at her parents. "Dad?"
Arthur looked at her quietly. "I just think some things in life are not a coincidence." He smiled warmly. "You were always close and now you are together and already having a baby." He shrugged. "Maybe it was inevitable."
She nodded, admitted defeat. "Looks like you're stuck with me."
He met her eyes and his eyes sparkled. "How terrible indeed," he said fondly.
Ginny got onto the bed beside Harry after they got back from dinner. He put his arm around her and pulled her against him.
"Tired?" he asked.
She shook her head softly as she tucked against him.
"It's really a relief to know our families are on board with our little oopsie," Harry said.
Ginny locked eyes with him. "Yeah, I am really glad too." One of her hands came to his face, caressing it softly. "These last two months have been so stressful; I am glad I have fewer things to worry about."
He nodded in agreement, his eyes focused softly on her. "I know we got a lot to figure out over the summer, but I really want to put a few proper dates in there. I want to have those with you."
She nodded in agreement. "Sounds good to me."
"And going on dates with a baby just doesn't work the same way." He grinned at her. He leaned closer to her. "I love you, Ginny Weasley."
"I love you too," she said against his lips. She kissed him softly and then moved to sit on his lap. Harry's arms wrapped around her, pulling her flush against him.
