Chapter 18
Maura let go of Jane's breast, and turned her face up to Jane while she pulled Jane by the hips to get flush with her.
When their completely naked bodies touched, it was as if sparks had flown. Maura's curves seemed to perfectly match Jane's sharpened edges, inch by inch, and they fit together like two pieces of a puzzle.
Jane leaned forward to capture Maura's lips in a slow, sensuous, deep, open-mouthed kiss, while their hands roamed freely the expansion of naked bodies at their reach.
They touched, and knead, and caressed, and pressed, learning in Braille the geography of each other's curves.
If they were asked later, neither Maura or Jane would be able pinpoint the exact moment they had leaned down in bed, but if they had to guess it was when their knees became weak with the growing intensity of the sensations they were arousing in each other.
They found themselves leaning sideways, their bodies flush, their hands finally having found their rightful places in between the other's legs. And as fingers slid and palms moved in synchronicity, breathing mixed as pants, gasps, moans and whimpers grew in a crescendo, and as eyes struggled to sustain the gaze of the other fighting against simply closing in pleasure… They moved in unison, their bodies undulating to the pace of their hands, in a crescendo that exploded in white light and the deafening rush of blood on their ears as each other's names echoed from their lips.
As they climbed down from their high, their sweaty foreheads leaning against the other, their heavy breathing out of compass, they smiled sated before kissing slowly as they gently removed their hands from each other's cores. Their legs intertwined of their own volition, as if even now they wanted to remain as one, uncertain of where were the limits where one began and the other ended.
Jane's long arm reached for the comforter she had pulled aside earlier, and brought it to cover them both.
They could stay like this forever. Cocooned from the outside world. In their own space. Made simply of their entangled bodies. Their entire universe reduced to those few square feet their close embrace occupied.
At first Jane thought Maura had fallen asleep, her breathing finally calm and compassed again. But when she felt the little arabesques Maura's fingertips were ghosting on her naked back, she knew Maura was awake, so Jane leaned forward to kiss her tenderly.
"I love you, Maura Isles." Jane husked in a whisper. "I love you more than I love life itself." Jane squeezed Maura's lithe body tighter against hers.
"I love you too, Jane." Maura sighed. "More than I was even aware it was possible to love anyone…"
"Can we just stop time and stay like this? Forever?" Jane asked, hopeful.
Maura chuckled, amused.
"As much as I wish, I don't think we can… But we might be able to do better, Jane."
"Better than this?" Jane inquired, puzzled. "I doubt it."
Maura captured Jane's lips in a slow kiss.
"We can do everything we want to do, knowing we will always make time and space for this, whenever we want to, wherever we want to…" Maura added in a sultry voice.
It was Jane's turn to kiss Maura slowly and deeply.
"I really like the way you think…"
"And we can begin right now…" Maura leaned forward, capturing Jane's lips in a searing kiss.
And they lost count of how many rounds they went on, unhurriedly learning each other's body languages, associating each touch and caress to the corresponding sound, a whimper, a moan, a gasp, a plead, until they finally fell asleep completely and utterly sated and spent in each other's arms.
Jane was the first to wake up, what was not usual. But she only woke up because it was late. Late even for her. Given, they had only fallen asleep in the wee hours of night. And Maura was still deeply asleep in Jane's arms, what gave Jane a chance to observe her unencumbered.
Even with the tousled hair of a night of wild lovemaking, Maura was breathtaking. Seeing the smooth silky expansion of naked skin, their limbs intertwined in impossible ways, Jane could not hold back a wide smile. She, who had done so many wrongs in her life, had no idea how she had ended up deserving of this incredible woman. But Jane vouched to herself to do anything in her power to keep being worth of Maura.
Maura woke up slowly, feeling observed. She inhaled deeply, and smiled without opening her eyes. Jane's unique scent. She took stock of her body, limbs still mingled with Jane's, her skin still tingling from all the wonderful sensations they had awakened on their bodies overnight.
Seeing Maura awake, Jane squeezed her gently against her body, husking a "Good morning…"
"Hmmm, good morning…" Maura stretched in place, too lazy even to move away from Jane to stretch properly.
Jane chuckled. "Am I really seeing Dr. Maura Isles calmly in bed at almost ten in the morning?" she teased gently.
"You are…" Maura chuckled. "Because… You kept me awake until very, very late… Or, should we say, very very early?"
"Oh, I am sorry, I promise I will not keep you up late or early for that matter in the future…" Jane teased.
"No…" Maura laughed. "You can keep me up late or early as often as you want…" she squeezed Jane tightly by her side.
"So can we spend the day in bed?" Jane tried, hopeful.
Maura laughed. "As much as I would love to spend the entire day in bed with you, I am starving… And for real food, not for you, for a moment." Maura added for good measure, making Jane laugh.
"Shower, then brunch?" Jane invited, beginning to move to disentangle their limbs.
"Shower together, then brunch?" Maura counter-offered over her shoulder, sitting in bed and stretching lazily, before standing and heading to the bathroom.
"Like I said last night, Dr. Isles, I really, really like the way you think." Jane threw the comforter away, and in two seconds was standing right behind Maura on her way to the bathroom.
