Welcome back to Ashes of Midnight. Last time, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Iron Man and Cynder arrived at their destination, a pocket dimension in Salem, MA, home to The Abbey, the base of operations for the Midnight Sons: Blade, Nico Minoru, Magik, the current Ghost Rider, and their leader, the Caretaker. And the reason they're here? Doctor Strange plans to revive The Hunter: Lilith's child raised by Caretaker, her sister, as a weapon against her. For some reason, the Caretaker is interested in having Cynder there in this moment. So, how's the revival going to go? Read on to discover...

(Our scene opens up just outside the Abbey, where the Midnight Sons, Iron Man, and Captain Marvel are watching as Doctor Strange finishes his spell)

Doctor Strange: Quando Tamdid Venari, et Ultima! Child of Light and Darkness, you who tamed the night! Hear the voice of those who beseech thee, and...

Cynder: (Noticing something) Something's wrong. Why isn't the coffin opening?!

(Soon enough the question is answered, as Lilith and Malefor's familiar green and purple magic starts filling the room)

Caretaker: They're trying to stop us!

Doctor Strange: (As his magic starts to fizzle out) This shouldn't be possible! I... I can't stop them!

Caretaker: (Adding her magic to the mix) I won't let this happen!

(But even with the Caretaker's added magic, the enemy's magic isn't stopped Seeing she has no other choice, Cynder channels the Aether that Malefor forced into her as a child and uses it to back up the other two mages, ultimately forcing back the green and purple magic, and popping open the sarcophagus, releasing a column of light)

The Hunter: Mother!

Captain Marvel: (Seeing this) That's not a good sign is it?

Nico Minoru: Not at all.

(But soon enough, the light is abated and there stands the spirit of The Hunter, over a pile of dust that was once their body)

Doctor Strange: (Seeing the dust) But... how?

The Hunter: (In a voice both male and female at once) The dragon's magic destroyed my body, but not my spirit.

Doctor Strange: Then it seems, we truly are doomed. The prophecy foretold that only The Hunter could defeat Lilith.

Caretaker: The prophecy was thrown away a long time ago.

The Hunter: Indeed it has been. Mother and the dragon have merged, rendering me only half effective.

Cynder: Then... what do we do?

The Hunter: The only reason my spirit survived was because of you. You had the dragon's power forced into you at a young age. That has bound us. As the dragon has empowered my mother, I too shall empower you.

(And with that, The Hunter's spirit flies around Cynder, and just like Lilith and Malefor before them, The Hunter materializes armor onto Cynder, notably the collar around their neck, and as the armoring is complete, Cynder's eyes briefly turn yellow before returning to normal but with yellow flecks in her green eyes)

Cynder: Okay, this is just weird. (Notices something) Is the air supposed to burn with every breath?

Caretaker: Might be a side effect. But, it looks like you're the Chosen One now, Cynder.

(With that, the group steps out of the tomb, and everybody sees what happened)

Blade: (Sees Cynder's new armor first) So the entrance didn't go according to plan, I'm guessing.

Doctor Strange: Not even remotely.

Iron Man: Great. So now what do we do?

Cynder: Well, the Prophecy has been thrown out the window. (Rubs the collar at her neck as if it chafes) I guess we're improvising now.

Caretaker: At least that's how it appears.

Iron Man: We should probably get back to HQ then.

Cynder: I think we're already here, Tony.

Iron Man: Staying in this creepy place? No way, I cannot deal with magic.

Cynder: I've got the Hunter's memories as well as their powers. I think it would be best to train them in familiar climes.

Doctor Strange: Agreed. Now, we haven't a moment to lose.

Caretaker: I'll show you to the War Room. We can start our plan there.

(With that, everybody heads into the main Abbey, with Cynder still baffled by all that's happened.)

Cynder: Is this how Spyro felt when we were kids? If so, I'm not sure I'm going to be long for this Chosen One business. (Looks up at the facade of the Abbey) But I guess I don't exactly have a choice here.

(And as Cynder rejoins the group inside the Abbey, our story ends for today.)

And that looks like a good place to wrap up for now. So, The Hunter hasn't been revived as planned, but has now merged with Cynder like how Malefor did with Lilith. And now she has The Hunter's powers and memories. This is going to prove important later. So, what comes next now that Cynder's become a Chosen One? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
