I don't own Disney's The Owl House. I do, however own the OC known as Danielle Hopkins. Hope you all enjoy my story on this lovely show.
Chapter Sixteen
It was a nice bright morning on the Boiling Isles. Eda was out and about in the Human Realm gathering more merch for her stand. Luz and King were on the couch, with the former looking at a pamphlet for Hexside School of Magic and Demonics. Danielle, though was pondering on what kind of bedframe to make with the Wood Glyph. Apparently, she was getting a little tired of the floor.
"King, listen to this!" said Luz, lying on the couch.
"Hey! Less read-y, more scratchy!" said King, laying on top of Luz.
"Sorry! Now that we'll be students at Hexside, I wanna learn all about it!" said Luz, sitting up. "I've got a new crush, and her name is Education!"
"I thought it was Amity," said Danielle, only for Luz to throw a couch pillow at her. "Pfft, hey!"
"Nyah!" said King, biting off a piece of the pamphlet.
"Hey, freeloaders!" said Eda, kicking the front door open. "Guess what today is?"
"Is it your birthday?" asked Luz, staring at Eda.
"Human garbage day," replied Danielle, sitting up.
"Is it my birthday?" asked King, staring at Eda, wagging his tail.
"It's my birthday!" said Hooty, proudly.
"The winner is Danielle," said Eda, closing the front door. "It's human treasure day! Ahh, fresh garbage."
"Ooo, gimme, gimme, gimme!" said King, running over and grabbing a teddy bear. "Yes! Another worthy addition to my army of terror! Truly horrifying!"
"When is your birthday?" asked Danielle, leaning towards Luz.
"End of February," replied Luz, looking as Danielle put it on her cell phone.
"Which one?" asked Danielle, looking at Luz. "Leap year one or…"
"Twenty eight," replied Luz, looking at Danielle while holding her cell phone. "What about you?"
"Sixth of April," replied Danielle, putting her phone away.
"Got it," said Luz, jotting it on her cell phone. "I'm older than you."
"Not by much," said Danielle, teasingly sticking her tongue out.
"Yo, kid. Your trash pile's getting cold. While mine's getting hot!" said Eda, grabbing a clothes hanger. "I have never seen such an extravagant earring."
"Those are clothes hangers," said Danielle, staring at Eda. "But I do love a good arts and crafts so we can make them into actual earrings."
"Now you're thinking," said Eda, ruffling Danielle's hair.
"You can have my trash. Whoa!" said Luz, turning the pamphlet around to Eda. "Did you know that Hexside was built on the bones of its rival school? One it literally conquered!"
"Yes, I know all these things, I went there," said Eda, looking at Luz. "It was the most harrowing period of my life."
"It couldn't have been all that bad," said Danielle, looking at Eda. "There had to be some upsides to it."
"…" said Eda, thinking of a certain someone back then.
"You went silent," said Danielle, before grinning. "Did you have a…"
"Enough," said Eda, covering Danielle's mouth.
"Raeda! Raeda! Aah, Eda, no!"
"Get back here!"
"Can you imagine it! Me, in the halls of Hexside, studying with Willow and Gus and… maybe even Amity..." said Luz, before remembering something. "Oh cramity! We're supposed to meet so I can get my Azura book back!"
"And you wonder why what I said moments ago," said Danielle, following Luz towards the front door.
"Hush you," said Luz, running out the front door. "I love you guys!"
"Lu… mity… Lumity," said Danielle, about to close the door only to dodge a light spell coming her way. "Whoa! Okay, I get it."
"Just you wait," said Luz, looking at Danielle. "You'll fall in love eventually, then I'll come up with a power couple name for you."
"Not any time soon," said Danielle, closing the front door before petting Hooty. "I'll see if I can make you some wuzetka. For your birthday that is."
"Sounds delicious," said Hooty, before wondering as Danielle walks away. "What is wuzetka?"
Heading toward Bonesborough, Danielle and Luz search around the market area where the intended meetup was at. Tapping Luz's shoulder, Danielle points in the direction she sees Amity. Luz starts to brisk fully walk towards Amity with a pep in her step, making Danielle silently grin.
"Hey, Amity!" said Luz, seeing Amity in different attire. "Luz is finally here!"
"Hi, Luz!" said the Twins, blocking Luz's path and spotting Danielle as well. "Hi, Danielle!"
"Ah!" said Luz, as Danielle caught her falling backwards.
"Hey, you two," said Danielle, finger saluting the twins.
"Edric! Emira! Stop bothering them!" said Amity, running over. "Sorry, Luz, Danielle, they insisted on coming for some reason."
"It's okay," said Danielle, looking at Amity.
"Because we love you, baby sister!" said Emira, squishing Amity's face before being pushed away. "Ah!"
"They've been extra protective and nice towards me to make up for the library incident," said Amity, fixing her hair.
"And we still apologize everyday," said Edric, leaning into Amity.
"In any case, here's your book," said Amity, pushing Edric away and taking the book out of her bag.
"So, what'd you think?" asked Luz, grabbing her book.
"It was... fine," replied Amity, looking away.
"So fine you drew yourself with Malingale the Mysterious Soothsayer?" said Luz, taking out a drawing that was in her book.
"Nope," said Danielle, grabbing the drawing and putting out the fire that Amity set on it. "Not doing that."
"…" said Amity, as Danielle handed the picture back.
"Just store it away," said Danielle, whispering to Amity. "It could be something you can reminisce on when you're older."
"Yeah, I guess you're right," said Amity, stuffing the picture in her bag. "It would be nice."
"This is great!" said Luz, looking at Amity. "Maybe we could even start an Azura club at school when we're classmates!"
"No no-no-no-no-no," said Danielle, backing away. "Uh-uh. Not happening. Not in this lifetime."
"When we're what?" asked Amity, quirking her eyebrow, confused.
"Surprise!" said Luz, taking out the pamphlet for Hexside. "We're enrolling in Hexside!"
"We've been studying as much as we can to pass the practical and magical portions of the entrance exams," said Danielle, looking at Amity. "Though we're still hitting bumps in the collaboration that Bump wants to see from us."
"I want to forget that last one," said Luz, remembering the last attempt. "It's still in my nose."
"I said I was sorry," said Danielle, a little miffed. "Didn't think my mind would wander to that show."
"Didn't think you'd watch that show," said Luz, looking at Danielle.
"Bump is asking for a collaboration between you two?" said Amity, staring at Danielle and Luz.
"Yeah," said Danielle and Luz, rubbing the back of the necks.
"That would be interesting to see," said the Twins, looking at Danielle and Luz.
"Oh! Well, sorry, but to be in my class, you need to take a placement exam and prove that you've mastered two spells, which I know Danielle has," said Amity, remembering the fight at the covention hall. "I know you have your light thing. Uh, do you know anything else? Or runes?"
"I have been studying the runes as well," said Danielle, looking at Amity before waving her hand in front of Luz. "Luz, you there?"
"Quit giving them a hard time, Mittens," said Emira, coming out from behind Amity.
"Yeah, of course she knows two spells," said Edric, before staring at Luz. "Right, Luz?"
"Pff. Yeah. 'Course I know two spells!" said Luz, laughing nervously.
"Because if you don't, they'll put you in the baby class," said Amity, showing a certain area on the pamphlet.
"Papa Titan, show Luz a new glyph," thought Danielle, looking at the pamphlet. "And quick."
"Oooh! Brain idea!" said Edric, pointing at his head.
"What if we all trained together?" asked Emira, leaning on Amity. "We could show off what we know!"
"What do you say, Danielle, Luz?" asked Edric, looking at Danielle and Luz.
"I have no problem with that," said Danielle, looking at Amity and the twins. "But I bet Eda would like to get in one more good…"
"Uh, actually, I have other training plans in a very far away place that I have to go to right now," said Luz, linking arms with Danielle and running off. "Bye!"
"Whoa!" said Danielle, looking at Luz. "Luz!"
Running as fast as she could back to the Owl House, Luz slams the front door open. Danielle was catching her breath against the kitchen doorframe as Luz confronts Eda.
"Eda!" shouted Luz, gaining Eda's attention.
"There it is," said Eda, staring at Luz.
"Eda, Eda! Eda!" said Luz, falling to the floor. "You have to teach me a new spell right now!"
"Sorry, Luz! These vegetables won't cook themselves... yet," said Eda, before trying to shoo some fruits and vegetables into a pot. "Alright, everybody in the pot! Why do I always think that's gonna work?"
"Not so fast," said Danielle, activating a Plant Glyph and netting the food. "There, unmagic them and I'll start cutting and dicing."
"There," said Eda, unmagicing the food.
"But I need to know two spells to get into decent classes at Hexside. I can make light glyphs," said Luz, activating a Light Glyph to proof her point. "But at the end of the day, that's the only spell I know."
"Blind us why don'tcha," said Danielle, rubbing her eyes alongside Eda.
"And whose fault is that?" asked Eda, looking at Luz.
"Yours!" said Luz, her voice muffled and pointing at Eda. "And the Titan's."
"Ha! Yep. Got me there," said Eda, seeing Luz's point.
"Just teach me a spell now. Any spell!" said Luz, getting up and staring at Eda. "It can be the darkest evil."
"You will not!" said Danielle, glaring at Luz. "You don't know what could happen if you dwell into the dark arts."
"But…" said Luz, staring at Danielle.
"There's a reason it's called dark arts," said Danielle, staring at Luz. "You could end up losing yourself to it. Or worse, someone else is sacrificed. Not only that what if you summoned something outside your control or even Eda's control. It's not worth it."
"Mmmm," said Luz, grumbling.
"Well, I have been researching my texts on wild magic, but I'm much too busy right now," said Eda, tossing a book in the pot.
"Come on, Eda! You're the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles," said Luz, looking at Eda. "How would it look if your apprentices got thrown into the baby class?"
"Hmm. Weaponizing my pride. Well played," said Eda, looking at Luz. "Well, in that case, this looks like a job for magic boot camp."
"Let's hope it's not spartan," said Danielle, sitting on the windowsill.
"Did someone say boot camp? I agree to run it," said King, opening the back door. "We'll rise at dawn! You'll carry me on your back as I yell hateful things about your performance!"
"I'd rather you didn't say hurtful things," said Danielle, looking at King.
"Nope. You'll have no part in this," said Eda, staring at King. "Danielle and Luz need to focus, and I can't have them get distracted when you do something adorable."
"I am not adorable!" said King, stomping his foot.
"Aww," said Danielle, staring at King's cute action.
"Aww, he stamped his little foot!" said Luz, staring at King's cute action as well.
"Nooo!" shouted King, clinging to Luz's leg.
"Whoa, King," said Luz, almost losing her balance.
"I'm not going to lose her!" shouted King, making Luz stumble into Danielle. "I'm going!"
"Okay, okay," said Eda, staring at King. "Yeesh."
"King," said Danielle, bending down to eye level with King. "Is what you saw that day still affecting you?"
"…" replied King, whimpering into Luz's leg.
"I'll take that as a yes," said Danielle, gently stroking King's back.
"Now, no time to waste. You'll have to follow my teachings exactly. We gotta go somewhere special," said Eda, walking out of the kitchen and towards a specific closet. "A place where magic energy just flows."
"Yes!" said Luz, excited as Eda tossed her some winter garb.
"Uh, Eda," said Danielle, being handed winter garb. "These aren't made from wool, are they?"
"No, they're made from my hair," replied Eda, putting on her winter garb. "Why?"
"I'm allergic to wool, not to the point of anaphylaxis but it's pretty bad," said Danielle, looking at Eda. "Not a pretty sight."
"Sure, it's not just wool sensitivity," said Luz, looking at Danielle. "They do tend to get mixed up."
"Nope," said Danielle, putting on the attire. "I'm allergic to it. As is my dad."
"Oh, okay then," said Eda, looking at Danielle. "I'll have to remember that."
"Let's go," said Luz, running to the front door.
"Slow down Luz," said Danielle, putting on her hat with animal ears.
Leaving the Owl House, Eda, Danielle, Luz and King mount Eda's staff and head towards the Knee. Dismounting at a certain point, they end up walking up the rest of the way to their destination.
"A place like, the Knee!" said Eda, gesturing to the environment around them. "The earliest witches came to the Knee to develop their magic, drawn to its natural power."
"So, it's a magic hot spot," said Danielle, looking at her surroundings.
"It's beautiful!" said Luz, looking around.
"Though, it's not without its dangers," said Eda, gesturing to a nearby beast. "The Slitherbeast! Don't worry, if you don't mess with him, he won't mess with you."
"Okay, got it," said Danielle, following Eda and King.
"Here's where we'll set up shop," said Eda, stopping at a certain area.
"Crisp cold air, scenic views, best place for a magic lesson" said Danielle, taking a deep breath of the cold air.
"I'll definitely learn my second spell here!" said Luz, wondering around with Danielle right behind her. "Gorgeous views, magic in the air. And best of all, we're completely alone!"
"Watch out!" said Eda, tackling the girls down as a stray fireball comes their way.
"Sorry, whoever's over there!" shouted Amity, nearby with her siblings.
"Forget teaching me a spell, just make me disappear," said Luz, ducking back down and hiding her face with her hat.
"Well, okay, but I've got a 60/40 record of making you re-appear," said Eda, before realizing what Luz meant. "Oh! You meant... ah, never mind."
"Hey, Danielle! Hey, Luz!" said Edric, recognizing Danielle and Luz. "Hey, it's us!"
"Hello!" said Emira, waving her hand alongside Edric.
"Hey guys," said Danielle, walking over. "This is where your training?"
"No, wait," said Luz, trying to stop Danielle.
"Yup," said the twins, staring at everyone as they walk over.
"Nyeh!" said King, throwing a snowball at Edric.
"Pfft," said Edric, wiping the snowball away. "What was that for?"
"I won't let you get away with hurting Luz," replied King, glaring at Edric.
"That wasn't even my fireball," said Edric, only for King to throw another snowball at him. "Pfft."
"Okay, let's do this," said Luz, taking a deep breath. "Hey, guys!"
"Who are they?" asked Eda, staring at Amity and the twins.
"Amity Blight and her twin siblings Emira and Edric," replied Danielle, gesturing to the Blight Siblings.
"Ah, Alador and Odalia's kids," said Eda, squinting her eyes.
"Be cool!" said Luz, grabbing Eda's jacket and turning away. "If they know I haven't mastered two spells, they'll think I belong in the baby class!"
"What's that about the baby class?" asked Amity, walking over.
"Only that it's for babies, and Danielle and Luz here clearly aren't babies," said Eda, before whistling and walking away. "Nailed it."
"Amity!" said Luz, slipping and being caught by Danielle.
"Easy there," said Danielle, looking at Luz.
"Wha... What are you doing here?" asked Luz, looking at Amity.
"Luz clearly likes Amity," thought Danielle, before seeing King making a snow angel. "At least this is cheering King up some."
"I'm here to train," replied Amity, looking at Luz. "I'm trying to beat Ed and Em's highest score on the exam."
"Why do you have to beat their scores?" asked Danielle, looking at Amity.
"… …" said Amity, looking away.
"It's one of your parents if not both, isn't it," said Danielle, looking at Amity.
"Yeah," said Amity, sighing.
"Amity still needs to use a training wand to learn new spells," said Edric, popping up from behind Amity. "So what are you workin' on? Something powerful?"
"Yup! Powerful spells!" replied Luz, looking at the twins and Amity. "I'm workin' on one that's so crazy! Eda's a pretty incredible teacher."
"I don't know what Eda is going to teach us yet," replied Danielle, looking at Edric. "But from the environment, it's probably ice or snow based."
"Danielle! Luz! I shall now teach you how to identify different types of snow… by taste!" said Eda, walking back over with a basket full of snowballs. "Go on, eat the snow."
"Oh, I've eaten snow before," said Danielle, holding a snowball. "I've made ice cream with snow every year with Gramma."
"You've eaten snow?" said Luz, looking at Danielle.
"Yup," said Danielle, lightly scratching her cheek. "Even a dab of soy sauce tastes good on it."
"That-That's not what I mean," said Eda, looking at Danielle. "Eat the snow as is and identity it by taste."
"Like discerning rock salt from sea salt," said Danielle, looking at Eda than the snowball. "I didn't know snow could be like that as well."
"Oooh. Brain freeze! Brain freeze!" said Eda, swallowing a mouthful of snowballs.
"See you around, humans! Good luck with your, uh, training," said Emira, before slapping a snowball out of Edric's hand.
"Aw," said Edric, being pulled away by Emira only for King to throw another snowball at him. "Hey! All right, little man. You got it coming now."
"Let's… just leave them be," said Amity, watching Edric and King having a snowball fight.
"Easy there Eda," said Danielle, helping Eda.
"Eda! Can you please take this seriously?" asked Luz, staring at Eda.
"Luz, she is," said Danielle, stepping between Eda and Luz. "It's a little unorthodox but it's still something."
"You need to take me seriously. Go taste snow without my guidance, see where it gets you," said Eda, staring at Luz. "Oh. Don't worry, kid. If you listen to me, soon you'll be doing stuff like that."
"Which I know you'll like," said Danielle, looking at Luz.
"And it won't be with some wack training wand, it'll be the real deal," said Eda, looking at Luz. "But you have to trust me, okay?"
"Even I trust Eda," said Danielle, looking at Luz. "Even if it took me a bit at the beginning."
"Hey," said Eda, looking at Danielle.
"Okay. I trust you," said Luz, looking at Eda.
"Well, that's over. We've covered snow, so now it's on to smelling moss," said Eda, getting over her brain freeze before grabbing some moss and sticking it up her nose. "Now the trick is, you really gotta get it up in there."
"This lesson is…" said Danielle, watching Eda. "Uniquely disgusting."
Setting up a campfire, Eda had Danielle and Luz start learning her lesson. Identifying the smells of rocks. Tasting the snow. Smelling moss. And arranging twigs from big to small. King though, was busy still having a snowball fight with Edric.
"Ugh. Okay," said Luz, walking back to the campsite with Danielle. "We've identified the smells of three different rocks, sorted all the twigs from big to small, and found your glove, and…"
"Here's thing," said Danielle, holding out Eda's detached hand by the index finger before it flexed and grabbed her hand. "Aah!"
"Ah, I was wondering where that thing went," said Eda, grabbing and screwing her hand back on.
"So, what now?" asked Luz, before seeing Danielle take off her winter garb. "Danielle?"
"Eda, I think these have wool in them," said Danielle, trying to ignore the sensations.
"You weren't kidding," said Luz, seeing Danielle's allergy in full effect.
"What?" said Eda, seeing rashes on Danielle. "Don't scratch them."
"I know," said Danielle, still breathing heavy.
"Calm down," said Eda, placing a healing spell on Danielle. "Just let my magic do its work."
"You have got to be cold," said Luz, seeing Danielle shiver.
"Better cold than…" said Danielle, stopping herself from coughing and rubbing her eyes. "Luz, can you get my bag? I have some medicines in there."
"Got it," said Luz, reaching for said bag and finding some medicine. "Is it this?"
"Yes," replied Danielle, grabbing her meds and downing a pill. "Ugh, nasty stuff but it will help once it kicks in."
"All right, in the tent," said Eda, gesturing Danielle towards the tent. "In you go."
"But…" said Danielle, looking at Eda. "The lesson."
"In," said Luz, pushing Danielle into the tent before looking Amity and the twins way. "Mmmm."
"Hey. I know my lessons seem weird but this is what wild magic is all about!" said Eda, looking at Luz. "Making a connection with nature. The earliest witches understood that. Human witches need to understand it, too. You wanna learn a second spell?"
"With all my heart," said Luz, looking at Eda.
"Unmagic the tent!" said Danielle, trying to part the flaps. "I don't like being cooped up like this."
"Not happening," said Eda, staring at the tent before guiding Luz towards a rock to sit on. "Then you have to learn from the island. Now look. And think about what the island is trying to tell you."
"I want to learn too!" said Danielle, trying to tear the flaps apart. "Let me out!"
Believe it or not, Eda had a hard time trying to get Danielle to stay in the tent. Danielle really wanted to learn this magic lesson. At one point, Eda left the tent to see what King was up to. Turns out, after the snowball fight, both King and Edric had taken a break inside the Blight's tent, drinking some hot choco smilk. And Luz, after talking to a hand puppet was sneakily walking over to the Blight's camp to borrow Amity's training wand. Unfortunately, Danielle was able to figure out how to get past Eda's magic by lifting the tent flaps up and sneak out into the cold.
"Cold cold… huh…" said Danielle, seeing Luz with Amity's training wand before running over. "Luz!"
"Wha-aah!" shouted Luz, startled at how quick Danielle was and started running straight into the center of the ruins on the Knee.
"Got'cha!" said Danielle, tackling Luz to the ground and rolling down a slope. "What do you think you're doing?"
"What does it look like?" replied Luz, rolling alongside Danielle down the slope. "I'm trying to learn magic."
"This is not what Eda was trying to teach," said Danielle, as they still rolled down the slope. "What' so wrong…"
"I want to learn magic!" shouted Luz, glaring at Danielle. "The glyphs are still fuzzy."
"Then listen!" shouted Danielle, as they landed dead center in the ruins and her magic going off around them. "Huh…?"
"Uh oh," said Luz, feeling the ground shift.
The little burst of magic that Danielle gave off made the ground around them collapse in, causing Danielle and Luz to plummet screaming down a large hole. Their screaming alerted everyone nearby, causing them to run over and see the hole the girls fell in. Amity spots her training wand and grabs it.
"Got'cha," said Danielle, grabbing hold of something sticking out from the side of the hole and grabbing Luz's hand. "Dang, you're like a twig."
"This coming from someone who has a body I'd kill for," said Luz, glaring up at Danielle.
"Oh my gosh… I'm cold," said Danielle, shivering before feeling something flex somewhat in her hand then looking up. "Aah!"
"What now?" asked Luz, staring at Danielle.
"It's a hand! A dead person's hand!" screamed Danielle, seeing that what she grabbed was indeed a dead person's hand before gravity took hold. "Aah!"
"Wha-aah!" screamed Luz, as they fell to the bottom of the hole.
"Cotton!" shouted Danielle, setting off a Plant Glyph and landing on said stuff alongside Luz as they hit the bottom. "Safe."
"Oh my gosh," said Luz, seeing a bunch of dead bodies plummet down nearby. "Why were there dead bodies in the snow?"
"They look like they've been there for ages," said Danielle, shivering. "Possibly a crime scene from long ago."
"Ugh, come on," said Luz, opening up her jacket. "Get in."
"Hello… wool," said Danielle, before setting off a Wood Glyph than a Fire Glyph. "That should do some good."
"Oh, come on," said Luz, looking at Danielle. "You took your meds. Get in here."
"I-I-I'm no-not ta-taking an-any ch-chances," said Danielle, before staring at the dead bodies nearby. "If those things come al-alive, I'm in-incera-nting them."
"Will you stop being so stubborn," said Luz, before jumping Danielle and pulling her into the jacket.
"Luz, get off!" shouted Danielle, struggling against Luz. "I said… get off!"
Danielle's magic flares up and sends Luz into the wall of the hole. What neither didn't know was the walls responding to Danielle's magic and pulsed a strange energy wave that affected Danielle. Passing out, Luz rushes to Danielle's side.
"Danielle… Danielle, wake up," said Luz, lightly slapping Danielle's cheek before noticing Danielle's braid was no longer a silvery white but a dark brown like the rest of her hair. "What the…"
Sighing, Luz drags Danielle onto whatever remained of the cotton near the fire. Grabbing some of the cotton that flew when they landed, Luz stockpiled it onto Danielle for added warmth. Starin at the fire, Luz wonders if Eda and King had heard what happened and attempting a rescue mission.
"Stupid island. You were supposed to teach me magic," said Luz, before drawing the Light Glyph on the ground. "But I'll never learn more than this."
Just then, the Light Glyph burst into the flames, setting off a weird reaction. A fiery form of the Titan itself, formed before Luz before roaring. Multiple glyphs blast forth off the fiery Titan, Luz gasps as she looks at each one before the glyphs fly into her notebook in her jacket.
"Whoa… I have new glyphs, I have new glyphs!" said Luz, excited. "Eda was right. And Danielle. I should have listened to you."
"Wa… ov… m… on… Lu…" said the Firey Titan, before dissipating.
"Huh…" said Luz, staring at the fire. "He kinda looked like King. Right, I got to get me and Danielle out of here."
"Hu…man"
"Huh?" said Luz, looking towards the dead bodies and seeing their spirits hovering above them. "Aah!"
"Stop… him. The… threat… danger… our realm…"
"So creepy," said Luz, as the spirits vanish. "What they mean though."
Grabbing her notebook, Luz looks through the multiple new glyphs she has. Recognizing two specific ones, Luz tears a few out. Setting off one of the Plant Glyphs, Luz has it to were vines bunch up the cotton around Danielle, making it look like Danielle was in a giant fuzzy sleeping bag. Pulling Danielle close, Luz sets off a Wood Glyph, having a giant pillar rise up towards the top of the hole. On the way, Luz spots Eda and King on staff during the rise, startling the two. Finally at the top of the hole, Eda and King fly out as Luz sets off another Wood Glyph to create a bridge as Amity and the twins run over.
"I can't believe what you did," said Amity, slightly glaring at Luz.
"I'm sorry Amity," said Luz, looking at Amity. "As much as I wanted to learn magic, I shouldn't have taken your training wand. I should have known better. I'm sorry."
"You darn right you are," said Eda, dismounting her staff. "I got a list of chores for you for that stunt… and Danielle as well for escaping the tent. How'd she even get out?"
"We can question her later on that," said Luz, seeing King wiggling in his way into the cotton bag and nuzzling Danielle's face. "But you were right. Magic is a gift from the island. It means magic is everywhere."
"Glad you finally found out," said Eda, looking at Luz.
"No, literally it is. The Titan somehow communicated with me through the fire Danielle set up," said Luz, looking at Eda. "Showed me a bunch of glyphs."
"Whoa," said Eda, listening to Luz.
"What's strange though…" said Luz, before staring at King. "Is the fact that… it reminded me of King."
"What?" said Eda and King, staring at King.
"I know right," said Luz, confusing everyone. "King's a demon, right? Not some Titan. Plus, there's a bunch of dead bodies down there right now."
"Okay, boot camp is over," said Eda, cracking her back. "It's been a long day."
"Whose gonna lug Danielle back?" asked Luz, only for Eda to glare at her. "Right… it's me, isn't it? Alright, here we go."
Setting off a Plant Glyph to make some straps, Luz positions Danielle on her back. Mounting the staff alongside Eda and King, Luz waves bye to Amity and the twins as they head back to the Owl House. Once back and inside, Luz sets Danielle down as Eda and King head into the kitchen.
"What happened back there?" asked Luz, seeing that Danielle's braid was still a dark brown. "Just what is Danielle? Is she not half witch?"

"Achoo! Ugh…" said Danielle, bundled in her comforter as she heads into the kitchen for a hot drink. "Me and my stubborn pride."
"Yes… yes, you were stubborn," said Luz, seeing Danielle heat up a mug with something in it before sipping it. "Ah, so good, so warm."
"What you heat up?" asked Luz, looking at Danielle.
"I heated up some apple blood," said Danielle, taking another sip. "Strange, it taste different. Eh, don't care. It's good."
"Wait, you didn't actually get Eda's by mistake, did you?" asked Luz, looking at Danielle.
"Guess so," replied Danielle, before Eda came running in.
"Spit it out," said Eda, looking at Danielle.
"Don't worry, it's only a little," said Danielle, taking another sip. "Besides, I've had liquor in my hot teas before. Same with hot chocolate."
"You have?" said Luz, quirking her eyebrow.
"Mm-hmm," said Danielle, breathing in the warmth of the beverage. "Mom would put a little in during the cold season but not a lot. Uncle Neil though… the first time I had crème de menthe in my hot chocolate, he filled it almost halfway with the stuff before adding the hot chocolate. I was out like a light that night."
"Still…" said Eda, grabbing the beverage out of Danielle's hands. "This is mama's juice. So, none for you… or you. Do you hear?"
"Yes Eda," said Danielle and Luz, as they left the kitchen.

"Oh my gosh, nooo," said Luz, pinching her nose. "Why?"
"Well, if someone didn't screw up then maybe this wouldn't have happened," said Danielle, pinching her nose as well. "I can't believe I brought these things to life. Gross."
"What you bring to life?" asked Eda, coming out of the house and smelling a foul odor. "Who cut the cheese?"
"Sorry," said Danielle, setting a certain flower ablaze, only to make the smell stronger. "Oh my… I made it worse!"
