The Great War

Part VII

XXXXXX

Approx. 4.0 million stellar cycles ago

Start of the Remote Age: When contact with both the Ark and the Nemesis is lost, both sides of the Great War go into disarray. The Autobot Commonwealth attempts to determine the fate of the Ark and the fate of Optimus Prime and the rest of Team Prime, but their efforts are in vain. Eventually, Ultra Magnus is named acting Supreme Commander of the Commonwealth in Prime's absence and succeeds in maintaining the fragile alliance between the colony worlds with Elita-One and Sentinel Major as his advisors. By contrast, Megatron's apparent demise leaves Gelgastorm struggling to control the Decepticon Star Empire in his brother's stead as several Decepticon warlords, mercenary groups, and pirate crews turn on each other for their own respective dreams of conquest.

Shockwave reacts to Megatron's disappearance with trademark stoicism, taking the opportunity presented to further his own plans for Cybertron's future. He withdraws to his powerbase in the ruins of Crystal City and begins his work.

Approx. 3.7 million stellar cycles ago

With the Decepticon Star Empire fractured into squabbling warlords, Gelgastorm allies with the Triumvirate at New Kaon in order to bolster his forces. After millennia of wiping out of competing warlords, Gelgastorm secures a rule over a signification portion of the Empire sufficient enough to threaten the Autobot Commonwealth.

Ultra Magnus is forced to temporarily call off the search of the Ark to defend against the attacks of Gelgastorm's renewed Decepticon offensive. Their cold war wages inconclusively for almost 200,000 years with neither side able to achieve a decisive victory.

Approx. 3.5 million stellar cycles ago

After millennia of inconclusive battles and schemes against the Autobots with no clear outcome, former Combatron High General Gigatron challenges Gelgastorm for the title of Imperial Leader of the Decepticons. The Autobots turn this leadership contest to their favor, using the uncertainty in the Decepticon ranks to undermine their empire and cause many of the unconquered worlds to rise up against them. In the chaos that follows, the Decepticon Star Empire once again fragments into competing factions. Gelgastorm is forced to retreat into deep space in the hopes to one day return and unite the Decepticons under one banner again, but he disappears without a trace sometime after his departure from known space (In the present day, it would be revealed that Gelgastorm attempted to retrace his brother's footsteps in finding the AllSpark with the goal to use the artifact's great power to create an army that'll allow him to defeat his enemies, but as he enters Earth's atmosphere, his navigation systems malfunction, causing him to to crash in the Arctic, where he is frozen solid, trapped in stasis lock.)

The Mecannibal Incident: Velocitron is attacked by cannibalistic mechanoid aliens called the Mecannibals seeking to make a food source of the Velocitronian population. The Autobots respond and, together with the Velocitronians, they drive the aliens from the colony, causing sufficient losses to the invaders to ensure they learn not to repeat their mistake.

Approx. 3.2 million stellar cycles ago

The Autobots discover the former Cybertronian colony of Mons Prima, long believed by many religious groups to be the final resting place of Prima, the very first Cybertronian. The warrior tribes of Mons Prima side with the Autobots following a civil war with a rival tribe.

The Cybertronian colony of Skomiloch and its ruling body, the Ironforge Guild, joins the Decepticon Star Empire, offering the service of the Vehicon Navy as the Decepticon battlefleet's vanguard force.

With both of the Decepticon Brothers gone, Shockwave emerges from his self-imposed exile on Cybertron with an army of Cyborg Beasts and even his own personal commando team of Shockwave clones. He succeeds in bringing together the Triumvirate and several of the strongest warlords to form an interim High Council: Skorponok, Thunderwing, Deszarus, Overlord, Gigatron, Onslaught, Straxus, Motormaster, Razorclaw, Hun-Gurrr, Snaptrap, and Mega-Dolrailer. The thirteen Decepticon warlords agree to form a loose coalition: each will pursue their own aims with no interference from the others but will provide support to the others should the Autobots attempt to interfere.

Start of the Age of the Thirteen Great Demon Generals: The "Thirteen Great Demon Generals" as the new Decepticon High Council becomes known for beginning a long, extensive campaign of terror around the galaxy that the Autobot Commonwealth struggles to counter. For millennia, the Autobots are drawn into a string of bitter and inconclusive battles that achieve them nothing and allow the "Thirteen Great Demon Generals" to profit. Luckily for the Autobots, none of the "Demon Generals" are interested in capitalizing on the growing fatigue and disillusionment of their enemies or in uniting the Decepticon Star Empire into an unified force, content to pursue their own personal goals and profits.

Approx. 2.8 million stellar cycles ago

The Second Beast Wars: The long-lost jungle colony of Eukaris is rediscovered by the Autobot Commonwealth and the Decepticon Star Empire. Initially, Eukaris declares neutral in the Great War. After a few thousand years in isolation, the colony is eventually invaded by the Decepticons who ally with several of the planet's dissident tribes in exchange of their energon deposits. The main Eukarian tribes align themselves with the Autobots and waged tireless battles against the Decepticon-allied tribes for the remainder of the war.

Approx. 2.4 million stellar cycles ago

Disillusioned by how the Great War has done nothing but leave Cybertron in ruin, a Decepticon battlefleet admiral named Thundertron deserts from his post, wishing to strike out on his own by forming his own faction. Bringing together several other deserters from both factions aboard his ship Longshot, Thundertron forms the Star Seekers: a crew of scavengers, raiders, and pirates who often raid inhabited worlds for their resources in order to survive. While a majority of the Star Seekers comprises of former Autobots and Decepticons, its membership also consists of neutral Cybertronians who held both factions responsible for their planet's destruction, colonists who felt abandoned by Cybertron and the inner colonies during the Rust Plague pandemic long ago, and even organic aliens whose worlds were caught in the crossfire.

The Autobots discover the former Cybertronian colony of Devisiun, who join the Autobot Commonwealth.

Operation Volcano: After many meta-cycles of planning and coordination between the various Autobot resistance cells and underground leaders across Cybertron, the Autobots conduct "Operation Volcano", which would become the Wreckers' most (in)famous mission during the Great War. The Thirteen Great Demon Generals would be lured by the possibility of capturing or killing all of the Autobot leaders and would be ambushed by the Wreckers. The elimination of the Demon Generals would greatly demoralize the Decepticon war machine, allowing the Autobots to launch a planet-wide uprising throughout Cybertron, hopefully leading to the Autobots regain the upper hand in the war. Emirate Xaaron drew out the Thirteen Great Demon Generals by addressing a "meeting" of all Autobot leaders (which were in fact nothing but facsimile constructs), leaking the information to Decepticon intelligence officers. However, the Demon Generals anticipated this being a trap after capturing and interrogating an Autobot commander who knew of Operation Volcano's true purpose, killing him in the process. During the operation, at first, it seemed that the Demon Generals fell for the trap, only for Emirate Xaaron and the Wreckers to be then ambushed by the Wreckers' Decepticon counterparts, the combined forces of Squadron X led by Macabre and the Mayhem Attack Squad led by Snarler. Amidst the chaos, Xaaron survives an assassination attempt by Macabre when Impactor, leader of the Wreckers, takes the blast intended for him and was killed instead. In his dying breath, Impactor appointed Springer as the new field commander of the Wreckers.

The Micromaster Initiative: With Cybertron's energy reserves increasingly dwindling, the Autobots and the Decepticons enter a temporary ceasefire in order to devise a way to increase fuel efficiency. This resulted in the creation of the Micromasters: Minicon-sized bots with more efficient bodies constructed by using new engineering techniques that used less materials and smaller parts. Even regular-sized Cybertronians, such as Countdown and Skystalker, volunteer to be downsized into Micromasters. As part of the cross-factional experiment, both sides put the new bots through a joint training program at a shantytown named Little Iacon during which they learned about both factions, allowing them to choose which one to join. However, the Micromaster Initiative is eventually terminated as many Micromasters proved themselves to be rebellious punks who were hesitant to fight against those they'd been friends with, for a cause that only saw them as another step in the war. The "Meltdown Riots" then occur, as Autobots and Decepticons swoop into Little Iacon to grab as what many Micromasters they could to bolster their forces. This causes growing friction between the Micromasters and the Guzzlers. The Decepticons, to no-one's surprise, frequently bullied or belittled their smaller comrades, often finding ways to deprive them of energon. Little Iacon soon degenerates into a ghetto for the Micromasters to hang out and ignore the war entirely.

End of the Age of the Thirteen Great Demon Generals: Despite Shockwave's best efforts to keep his fellow warlords from working against one another, his Decepticon High Council fractures when Razorclaw and Overlord come into conflict. As the Thirteen Demon Generals turn on another, Shockwave and his closest allies-Straxus, Onslaught, and Thunderwing-return to his powerbase on Cybertron, now almost under Decepticon control with Iacon as the Autobots' last remaining bastion on the dormant world.

Approx. 1.3 million stellar cycles ago

Start of the Silvart Wars: Taking advantage of the Thirteen Demon Generals' downfall, the Galactic Council enters a period of overt war with the fractured Decepticon Star Empire, eventually crushing the competing warlords and scattering them to the distant reaches of the galaxy. With the Decepticons now fighting a war on two fronts, Shockwave leaves Generals Obsidian and Strika to oversee the military affairs of the Decepticons while he continues working on his experiments in his laboratory back on Cybertron.

Approx. 1.0 million stellar cycles ago

A peacekeeping organization called the World Watchers is formed around this time and is able to successfully defuse the situation, but the war had already left Nebulos' biosphere heavily decimated. In order to these new hostile conditions, the Nebulons use their advanced technology to reformat themselves into technorganic beings-creatures made of flesh and metal, merged together at the cellular level. With their new technorganic bodies to survive the hazardous environment, the Nebulons slowly but surely rebuild Nebulos and the planet enters a golden age of peace. Under the leadership of the Holless Dynasty and the Kord Royal Family, the Nebulons eventually develop interstellar travel and form alliances with neighboring alien races, resulting in the foundation of the Nebulon Republic.

Approx. 50,000 BCE

The battle ends with the destruction of the hybrid army on the planet Vhoorl within the Dire Wraiths' home territory in the Dark Nebula. Afterwards, Shockwave determines that the Dire Wraiths are too dangerous to risk allying with-and the Wraiths themselves decide to rely on their magic rather than turning to technology in future.

Approx. 3000 BCE

The Autobot Commonwealth liberates the neutral alien planet of Zel Samine of the Paradius System from the Decepticons. Offering their energy stores in exchange for protection against the Decepticons, the United Government of the Paradius System establishes itself as a protectorate of the Autobot Commonwealth alongside Probat and Musuumei.

Approx. 1200 BCE

Tired and disillusioned by hundreds of thousands of ano-cycles of pointless conflict, a group of Autobot colonists aboard the Titan Atlantis leave Cybertronian space in search for a new world far beyond the war's reach where they can live in peace. However, in their journey, Atlantis is shot down by a Decepticon scout fleet in orbit over Earth. The Titan and her crew crash-lands on a remote continent, located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean between North America and Eurasia. As they begin to explore this new world, the Autobots aboard Atlantis discover that the continent that they landed on is inhabited by a race of amphibious humanoids who've evolved separate from the humans of Earth called the Merfolk. Believing that the Cybertronians and their giant companion was a kingdom crafted by the gods themselves, the Merfolk welcome their alien visitors as friends. Together with their advanced technology, the Merfolk and the Earth-bound Autobots, now calling themselves the Terrans, create a grand civilization named Atlantis in honor of the Titan who now serves as their capital city. Initially, the kingdom of Atlantis promoted total pacifism and co-existed peacefully with the early human civilizations at the time. However, a power-hungry cult of Atlantean mages sought to abuse the technology that their Autobot allies given to them, believing that Atlantis should be dominant over their human "lessers". Under their guidance, the kingdom launched many destructive invasions and created weapons of mass destruction, bringing down entire empires to their knees. When the mages attempted to turn the entire continent of Atlantis into a mobile floating fortress, Atlantean reformists with the help of the Terrans deliberately sabotaged their plans, causing Atlantis to sink into the bottom of the sea. After ousting the mages from power, the Atlanteans, both Merfolk and Autobot, then maintain an underwater civilization, living in isolation from humanity with their existence kept a firm secret.
