Kanto Gets Loud

Chapter 20: The Sensational Cerulean City Gym Battle!

A little later, past the Cerulean City Western Entrance,

"So, this is Cerulean City. Seems like a nice place to live," Lincoln said, an impressed look etched onto his face as they walked through the streets.

"Yep. It's a fairly quiet town, and living here is nice and easy. So, what do you guys' plan to do first? A little sight-seeing?" Misty asked.

"I was thinking of going to the Pokemon Center to top of my team, and maybe see if there's a Wonder Trade station there," Lincoln replied.

"So that's how you guys had a Ralts, Riolu, and Buizel," Brock commented.

"Yep. We went to give it a try after our battle," Lincoln replied, as they arrived at the crossroads.

"I have some things of my own to take care of, so I'm going to head off on my own. The Pokemon Center is down that street, fifth building on the right. You can't miss it," Misty explained, as she took off in a different direction.

"Probably going to do some shopping," Lincoln theorized, as he and Brock headed down the street Misty directed them to.

"So, Lincoln, be a pal and clue me in on your battle strategy," Brock requested.

"Well, seeing as how I'm going to be battling Misty today, my plan is to have Pikachu act as my powerhouse, for one thing," Lincoln replied.

"Wait, you knew all along Misty was the Gym Leader here?" Brock asked.

"Figured it out a while back. It was actually while we were still in Pewter City that my suspicions started, all because she mentioned how unprofessional you are outside of battle. Only a Gym Leader would know something like that about another Gym Leader," Lincoln explained.

"Man, Misty is going to be pissed when she learns you've known all along," Brock commented, before remembering something that Lincoln had just said, "Wait, she said I was unprofessional?"

"Well, considering how you were trying to woo the Nurse Joy back there, it's kind of hard to call that professional behavior. It's kind of like how all of my sisters acted when I got a tutor this one time," Lincoln replied.

"You have sisters? How many do you have? And are any of them uh… single by any chance?" Brock asked in interest.

"I have 10 sisters, with me being the middle child," Lincoln replied.

"I see. So, uh… are any of them looking for a boyfriend?" Brock asked. Lincoln only gave him an annoyed look.

"Dude, those are my sisters you're talking about! I'm not going to dignify that with a response!" he said, before storming off, leaving the fifteen-year-old to sulk.

"Crap, I should've been a bit more subtle. Now he must think I'm a creep."

Meanwhile, in another part of Cerulean City,

"Ah, it's good to finally be back!" Misty commented, as she walked through the streets, eventually arriving at a building that said "Cerulean City Pokemon Gym". Outside, she saw a flyer on the bulletin board, "Huh, what's this?" she wondered, as she took a moment to examine it closer, only for her face to contort in annoyance.

The Sensational Cerulean City Synchronized Swimming Sisters

"Ugh! Why am I not surprised?" Misty groaned, as she entered through the front door. Upon entering the lobby, she heard three female voices that sounded like they were coming closer.

"That dive was totally awesome, Violet! I think it was the best one yet!"

"Thanks Lily! But Daisy wasn't too shabby with her dive either."

"That's true. All that practice really paid off, Lily."

"For sure!"

Misty only sighed in annoyance, "Well, I had to meet up with them eventually. Might as well get it out of the way," she groaned, as the door opened, and her sisters stepped through. They were very surprised to see Misty.

"Misty? Is that you?" Lily asked.

"Yeah, I'm back," Misty replied.

"Well, welcome home. You're looking good, though not as good as us, but still good nevertheless," Daisy commented, a look of mock thoughtfulness on her face.

"Didn't you say you weren't coming home until you were a Water Pokemon Master? What happened? Chicken out?" Violet teased.

"No! If you must know, I came back to make sure you three were pulling your weight and taking care of the Gym!" Misty retorted irritably. After taking a moment to calm down, she then asked, "So, how are things with the Gym? Any challengers come by?"

"Actually, yeah. We had three challengers here the other day, and each one of them mopped the floor with us," Daisy replied.

"They all came from this nowhere place called 'Pallet Town'. All three of them were really strong, Misty," Violet added.

"Well, maybe if you three spent half as much time training your Pokemon as you did preparing for your shows, you wouldn't have gotten flattened so easily," Misty chastised.

"Well, it isn't our fault that we inherited all the good looks in the family, and you got… literally everything else," Lily countered, only for Misty to pinch both of her cheeks, hard, "Ow, ow, ow! Uncle, uncle!"

"She's right you know!" the four sisters turned to see an older woman walking towards them, with long, flowing pink hair with orange tips, "The three of you are supposed to help your little sister run the Gym, and that means testing each trainer who comes through here to see if they are worthy of this Cascade Badge!"

"But Mom, we…" Daisy was cut off.

"No buts! Starting tomorrow, your shows are going to be held on a weekly basis, instead of being daily. The rest of the time you three will spend training," their Mother declared.

"Yes mom," the three older sisters droned.

"Good. Now then, Misty, it's good to see you again so soon," the Mother of the four said.

"And it's good to see you too, Mom. By the way, there's going to be another trainer coming in today, and I plan to battle him," Misty said.

"Oh? How do you know it's a he?" Violet asked in a teasing tone.

"When I was coming over, I passed by him, saying that he was going for his second badge," Misty replied.

"Darn, I was hoping that you had finally found a boy that you like," Daisy commented.

"Girls, your sister's love life is none of your concern!" their Mother yelled, causing them to freeze up, "Now, if you say there's going to be a challenger, then you should go and get ready to meet him in battle."

"Right away. By the way, there wouldn't happen to be any spare Water Stones lying around?" Misty asked.

"Actually, yes. We have one in storage. Do you need me to get it for you?" her mother asked.

"Yes. Could you bring it by the locker room later?" Misty asked, as she went through the double doors.

"And as for you three, make plans for training tomorrow, because I intend to whip each of you into shape to be proper Gym Leaders," their mother said. Daisy, Violet, and Lily all grimaced. They wish now that they had kept up on their training.

Meanwhile, at the Pokemon Center, in the lobby,

While Brock was attempting to serenade Nurse Joy, Lincoln was carefully going over each of the TMs he had gotten from the treasure stash he had gotten while in Pewter City, "So, what's the deal with looking over these TMs? Aren't our move sets good enough already?" Pikachu asked.

"Well, we're going up against Misty in our Gym Battle today, right?" Lincoln asked, to which Pikachu nodded, "Well, she's been traveling with us all this time, and she pretty much knows what each member of our team is capable of. So, if I use some TMs, I can teach you guys some new moves."

"I see, that way, you can catch her off guard," Pikachu replied, now seeing Lincoln's logic.

"Exactly. Although, I would like to be able to expand our TM repertoire. We have this Bug Type TM for something called 'U-Turn', which I can teach to Beedrill, but having some additional moves to teach would be helpful," Lincoln replied.

"I get what you're saying. But apart from moves like Protect that you taught Poliwag, I don't see any Electric or Grass Type moves that you can teach us," Pikachu replied, eying each USB stick.

"Yeah. Well, I suppose we can always go and browse the Pokemart," Lincoln replied, as he put away his TMs. He got up, and made his way over to the Pokemart. He went straight over to the TMs, "Lets see, what moves look good?" he wondered, grimacing at the prices of some of the more expensive ones. He then saw one particular USB, a yellow one, "This one might be a winner," Lincoln said, as he brought it over to the counter.

"Hello. Find everything you need?" the clerk asked.

"I believe so. What can you tell me about this TM?" Lincoln asked.

"An excellent question! That particular TM contains the move 'Thunder Punch'," the clerk replied.

"'Thunder Punch'?" Lincoln parroted.

"Indeed. The user cloaks it's fist in electricity, then unleashes a punch against the opponent. It may also paralyze the opposing Pokemon," the clerk replied.

"Hmm, if I had this, then maybe Riolu could get into the battle. After all, it has gained a few levels since on Mount Moon. I think I'll take this one," Lincoln replied, as he bought the new TM, "And as an added bonus, you can learn this move too, Pikachu."

"Great! Can't wait!" Pikachu commented.

Later, outside the Cerulean City Gym,

Lincoln, Brock, and Pikachu were all standing before a building that Lincoln thought looked like a circus tent. He then saw the words "Pokemon Gym" over the front door, "So this is it, huh?" Lincoln questioned.

"Yep. It looks like a Water Type Gym," Pikachu replied.

"You're right, Lincoln. This is the Cerulean City Pokemon Gym," Brock replied, before noticing a flyer on a bulletin board, "Huh? Water shows? Must be something new they're doing," he commented, before noticing the three women on the flyer, "Wow! What knockouts!"

Lincoln recognized them from when Misty was helping him catch Poliwag, "Those are Misty's sisters."

"They are?" Brock asked, turning towards the white-haired boy.

"Yeah. When she helped me out with catching Poliwag, she told me about them," Lincoln replied, as they entered the Gym. The inside looked like some kind of aquarium, "Well, there's no shortage of a Water theme here."

"Welcome to the Cerulean City Pokemon Gym! I take it you're the next challenger?" the voice of Misty's mother bellowed, as she approached the two of them.

"Yes, I am. I would like to request a battle challenge," Lincoln replied.

"Very good. Then follow me, and I'll show you to the battlefield," both boys followed Misty's mother through the halls, eventually arriving at the battlefield, where Daisy, Lily, and Violet were waiting, "Girls, you have a challenger!" Lincoln immediately felt something was off. He was under the impression that Misty was the Gym Leader of Cerulean City.

"So, this is our new challenger?" Daisy asked.

"Indeed. This is… I'm sorry, what did you say your name was?" their mother asked.

"It's Lincoln, Lincoln Loud, from Royal Woods, Michigan," Lincoln replied. The four women were very surprised.

"A foreigner? That's certainly rare," Daisy commented.

"Not as rare an opportunity to go out with another Gym Leader!" Brock said, as he got down on one knee, "My name is Brock, and was the Gym Leader over in Pewter City. The ravishing beauty all three of you display makes me go wild! So, I must ask if any of you are available later today, when we can go and enjoy a nice dinner at a restaurant, or perhaps I can whip something up from my own personal cookbook," he said, holding a ladle.

"Er… thanks for the offer, but we've actually got appointments later that we can't afford to skip," Daisy replied nervously.

"Rejected again," Brock commented dejectedly.

"So, back to you, Lincoln, you've come to challenge the Gym for a Badge, right?" Violet asked, quickly shifting away from Brock.

"Yes. I'm assuming one of you three are the Gym Leader?" Lincoln asked.

"You're right about that, in a way," Lily replied.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Lincoln asked, sounding confused.

"You see, all three of us are Gym Leaders. You only need to battle one of us to earn the Gym Badge," Lily explained.

"I see. So, shall we then?" Lincoln asked. But the three of them all turned away, disinterested looks on their faces.

"Well, the thing is, we're kind of out of Pokemon that are able to battle," Lily replied.

"Yeah, each of us got beaten in a row by some really strong trainers from some place called 'Pallet Town'," Daisy added.

"Really? That must mean Red, Leaf and Gary have passed through here already," Lincoln commented.

"Yeah. And right now, the only Pokemon we have that's able to battle is this one," Violet said, as she sent out a small, white fish like Pokemon, with orange markings on it's tail, fins, and body, and with a horn on the top of it's head. It flopped around aimlessly, as Lincoln pulled out his Pokedex to scan it.

"Goldeen, the Goldfish Pokemon, a Water Type. When the weather turns warm, Goldeen form large groups and swing upriver. This sight serves as a reminder that spring has come," the Pokedex said.

"Wait, so this Goldeen is all that you have left?" Lincoln asked, hiding a tone of suspicion.

"Yeah, but if it could only evolve into a Seaking, then maybe we could consider taking you on, but right now, all Goldeen knows how to do is Horn Attack, Flail, and Peck. Any Pokemon you send out would make quick work of it," Violet replied, recalling Goldeen. Pikachu sniffed the air, and immediately sensed something was off.

"They're lying, Lincoln. I can smell a bunch of other Pokemon here besides that Goldeen."

"Is that so? Hmm, they must be trying to get me to go away," Lincoln deduced.

"But for what reason?" Pikachu asked.

"I don't know, but I don't plan on leaving out of here without that badge," Lincoln replied, turning back to face the three sisters once more, a look of faux disappointment on his face, "So, I guess I'm not going to be able to battle today, right?"

"Afraid not, but there is something we can do to make up for it. Seel, come on out!" Lily called out, as a white seal Pokemon jumped out of the water. Lincoln once again scanned it.

"Seel, the Sea Lion Pokemon, a Water Type. It loves freezing cold temperatures, and is always seen swimming in waters measuring at 14 degrees Fahrenheit," his Pokedex explained. Seel then stuck it's tongue out, with a water drop shaped badge on it. Lily then retrieved it.

"Here, take this Cascade Badge as a token of our apology," she offered, but Lincoln remained suspicious.

"Wait, you're just giving it to me? What's the catch?" he asked.

"No catch. Just take it," Lily insisted. Lincoln had to admit, the offer of getting a Gym Badge without a battle was tempting, but he could sense something was off. His suspicious were only reaffirmed upon seeing Brock eying him carefully.

"Sorry, but there would be no honor in accepting a Badge without actually earning it," Lincoln finally replied.

"Well said, Lincoln!" a familiar voice said, as they all turned to source, seeing Misty up in the stands, looking down at them. She then leapt down between her sisters and her friends, "And it's a fair Gym Battle for the Cascade Badge that you want, then it's one that you'll get!"

"You three need to work on your observation skills. That Pikachu was sniffing the air, and probably picked up on the scents of all the other Pokemon we have here," their mother said.

"Damn, I knew we were forgetting something!" Daisy groaned.

"Well, in any case, you passed the Test of Character, Lincoln, and now have the right to challenge Misty to a battle," Violet stated.

"Wait, what do you mean 'Test of Character'?" Lincoln asked.

"You see, kiddo, all the Gyms in the Kanto region, as well as all the other Regions have a test to see if a challenger is worthy of facing the Leaders. By refusing to accept the Gym Badge for free, you passed the Cerulean City Gym's Test of Character," the mother of four explained.

"It's true. All Gym Leaders have one in place to keep less than honorable challengers from earning Gym Badges. After all, what good does being able to enter the Pokemon League do if you cheat your way in?" Brock asked.

"So, I bet you were surprised to see me here, huh?" Misty asked.

"Actually, I deduced that you were the Gym Leader since we left Pewter City," Lincoln replied.

"Wait, what?!" Misty exclaimed.

"I figured it out when I took note of three different things: One, you specialize in Water Type Pokemon, Two, you're from Cerulean City, and Three, you know Brock well enough to know how he acts around a pretty girl," Lincoln explained.

"I plan on getting you back for that 'unprofessional' remark you made," Brock chimed in.

"*Ahem* Well, in any case, we'll use the same rules as your battle with Brock, except we're going to be using three Pokemon instead of just two," Misty said.

"And I take it the whole 'no substitutions' rule is still in place?" Lincoln asked

"Indeed, it is. Now then, I have to get one more thing ready, so if you'll take your place in the challenger's box over there, I'll be out momentarily," Misty said.

"Very well then," Lincoln said.

"And I'll be acting as the referee," Misty's mother volunteered.

"Hold up, Misty! If you're going to battle, then you've got to dress the part. Fortunately, we have just the outfit in mind," Daisy stated. Misty blushed furiously, knowing what she was talking about.

"No, absolutely not! No way in hell is that happening!" Misty yelled.

"You're right. That outfit is far too showy. Thankfully, I have your stage outfit on standby," Misty's Mother said, turning to her older daughters, "Make sure that's the outfit she wears."

"Yes mom!" the three of them chimed, as they dragged their little sister off.

A little later,

Lincoln was waiting patiently for Misty to come back so that they could get the battle underway, "Ok, so it'll be Pikachu, for sure, and maybe Zubat too, since it knows Grass Type moves, but what about my third one?" Lincoln pondered, as Riolu released itself from its Pokeball.

"Hey Mr. Lincoln, are you choosing a team for your Gym Battle? Can I be a part of it? I'd love to put the new move you taught me to good use!" he asked excitedly.

"Well, I suppose it wouldn't hurt. Alright Riolu, you'll be the second Pokemon in line," Lincoln replied.

"Why second?" Riolu asked, sounding a little disappointed.

"See, I want to see how well Zubat does in a battle against another trainer, and this would be the perfect opportunity to do so. And don't worry, you'll get a chance to battle," Lincoln said.

"Ok!" Riolu cheerfully replied.

"Great! Oh, that reminds me!" Lincoln said, as he took a moment to let Ralts out of her Pokeball, "Ralts, we're going to have a Gym Battle, and I want you to observe how Pikachu and the others battle."

"O-Ok," Ralts replied, blushing a bit. It was then that Misty and her sisters returned, and Lincoln looked… puzzled at the costume she was wearing. It looked like a generic mermaid costume, complete with coral hair accessories, a starfish bra, and a long, teal fish tail.

"Uh, Misty, what are you wearing that for?" Lincoln asked.

"Don't ask, they insisted that I wear this," Misty replied, as she took her spot in the opposite box.

"Return for now, Riolu," Lincoln said, recalling Riolu.

"Alright, this official Cerulean City Gym battle between Lincoln Loud, the challenger, and Misty, the Gym Leader will no get underway! Both trainers may use no more that three Pokemon, with no substitutions. The battle will be over when all of either side's Pokemon are declared unable to battle! Now then, if both trainers will send out their Pokemon?" Misty's mother asked of the two.

"My first choice will be Poliwhirl!" Misty said, as she sent out her Poliwhirl.

"Then my choice will be Zubat!" Lincoln said, as he sent out Zubat.

"Alright, Poliwhirl Vs Zubat. That challenger has the first move, so battle BEGIN!" Misty's mother declared.

"Alright Zubat, lets start off strong with Absorb!" Lincoln instructed.

"Roger that!" Zubat replied, as it swooped down at Poliwhirl, in an attempt to bite the Tadpole Pokemon.

"Poliwhirl, into the water!" Misty instructed. Poliwhirl then dived into the water, dodging Zubat's attack.

"Alright, where did it go?" Lincoln wondered.

"Now, use Water Gun!" a stream of water erupted from the pool, striking Zubat in the air, knocking it off balance.

"Attacks from the water, huh? Hmm," Lincoln pondered, before he got an idea, "Zubat, use Supersonic on the water!"

"Wait, what?!" Misty was very confused, as Zubat fired the screeching noise at the water. Poliwhirl then resurfaced, wobbling in confusion.

"I knew it! Sound travels faster underwater than in air, so Supersonic was able to flush out Poliwhirl!" Lincoln commented.

"Huh, that's pretty smart of Misty's boyfriend," Daisy commented.

"HE'S/SHE'S NOT MY BOYFRIEND/GIRLFRIEND!" the two of them yelled.

"But in any case, now that Poliwhirl's too confused to do anything, now's the time to strike. Zubat, use Absorb, once again!" Lincoln instructed. Zubat once again swooped down at Poliwhirl, biting into the Tadpole Pokemon, draining it's energy, and replenishing his own.

"Quick, use Mega Punch and throw it off!" Misty instructed, only for Poliwhirl to punch itself, "Aw man, I hate confusion so much!"

"Zubat, back off for now, and circle around for a Wing Attack!" Lincoln instructed. Zubat flew off of Poliwhirl, and began to fly and circle around, swooping down and striking Poliwhirl with it's wings.

"Poliwhirl, snap out of it, and use Water Pulse!" Misty instructed. Her words seemed to get through, as Poliwhirl snapped out of its confusion, and fired off Water Pulse at Zubat, who was barely able to keep flying.

"Tsk, guess we got to go for broke, use Giga Drain!" Lincoln instructed. Zubat once more closed in on Poliwhirl, and bit down on it, absorbing more energy than before. It proved too much for Poliwhirl, as it went down to defeat.

"Poliwhirl is unable to battle, the winner is Zubat!" Misty's Mother declared, as Msity recalled Poliwhirl.

"You did great, Poliwhirl. Leave the rest to us," Misty said, as she turned her attention back to Misty, "You really surprised me when you fired Supersonic into the water. How'd you know that?"

"One of my sisters explained marine sonar to me one time, so I figured the same principle would work here," Lincoln replied.

"Alright, enough gabbing you two. Misty, your second Pokemon," her mother said insistently.

"Right, and my next Pokemon is…" as she grabbed a Pokeball, from her belt emerged Dewpider, "What?! I wanted to bring out my newly evolved Starmie, not you, Dewpider!" she whined.

"Where'd you get that Pokemon, Misty?" her mother asked.

"A Wonder Trade I did back in Pewter City. I also got a Buizel and a Skrelp as well," Misty replied.

"And you kept Dewpider? Even with your fear of Bug Types?" Violet asked.

"I was convinced to give it a chance, ok?!" Misty yelled.

"Well, if you're giving it a chance as part of your team, then why not give it a chance in the battle? It may be a bit unorthodox using a Pokemon not native to the Kanto Region, but still," her mother suggested.

"Oh, alright," Misty relented, as she stashed away her other Pokeball.

"Now then, resume the match!" her mother declared.

"Since I don't know much about Dewpider apart from being a Water and Bug Type, we need to be careful. Zubat, keep your distance as best you can!" Lincoln called out.

"Right!" Zubat replied. Misty pulled out a smartphone, and tapped a few buttons.

"Ok, here are Dewpider's moves. Let's start off with Icy Wind!" Misty instructed. Dewpider then fired off a bone chilling wind, that seemed to damage Zubat quite a lot, as its movements became more sluggish.

"What's going on?" Lincoln questioned, noticing how much slower Zubat was.

"Information: Icy Wind: An Ice Type Move that utilizes a freezing wind to attack. The move can sometimes reduce the Pokemon's speed stat," his Pokedex explained.

"Tsk, in that case, we got to act fast! Zubat, use Wing Attack!" Lincoln instructed. Zubat swooped down at Dewpider, but it was still moving very slowly.

"Alright Dewpider, lets use Bubblebeam!" Misty exclaimed. Dewpider then fired off a powerful stream of bubbles that pushed Zubat back, causing it to land on a rock on the water, completely spent.

"Zubat, are you alight?!" Lincoln called out.

"Truthfully? Not really. I'm plum tuckered out," Zubat replied, before collapsing in exhaustion.

"Zubat is unable to battle, the winner is Dewpider!" Misty's Mother declared. Lincoln then recalled Zubat.

"You did great, Zubat. We'll handle things from here," Lincoln said, as he got out his second Pokeball, "Alright Riolu, you're up!" he said, as he sent in Riolu, who was raring to go.

"Alright, my time to shine! I won't let you down, Mr. Lincoln!" Riolu declared.

"Alright, Riolu Vs Dewpider. Battle, begin!" Misty's Mother declared.

"We need to be careful of Icy Wind, Riolu, so let's start off with Quick Attack in a zigzag!" Lincoln instructed.

"Alright then!" Riolu said, as he rocketed off, zigzagging with a streak of white being left behind him.

"Dewpider, quick, use Icy Wind and slow down Riolu!" Misty instructed. Dewpider once again fired off Icy Wind, but Riolu instinctively dodged, by leaping over it and behind Dewpider. Before it had a chance to react, Riolu slammed into Dewpider as blinding speeds.

"Alright, now to finish this off now! Use Thunder Punch!" Lincoln instructed. Riolu's fist became enveloped in electricity, before taking a swing at Dewpider.

"Dewpider, use Protect!" Misty instructed. Dewpider erected a green barrier which caused Thunder Punch to bounce off, "Alright, now use Water Pulse!" the Protect barrier dropped, and Dewpider fired off Water Pulse at point blank range.

"Uh, what's going on? Where did it go?!" Riolu exclaimed, its eyes glazed over.

"Oh no, Riolu must've become confused! Try to shake it off, Riolu!" Lincoln instructed, only for Riolu to slam it's body against a rock in the pool, before falling into the pool.

"Dewpider, this is our chance! Use Icy Wind!" Misty instructed. Dewpider fired off Icy Wind, which froze the entire section of the pool Riolu was in, trapping the Emanation Pokemon in ice.

"Lincoln! Do you wish to recall Riolu?" Misty's mother asked.

"Much as I don't want to, I guess I don't have much more options at this point. I forfeit this round!" Lincoln declared, as he recalled Riolu, "Sorry Riolu, but I'm not going to risk your life, health, and safety for a badge."

"Hmm, very noble of you to say that. If you had forced Riolu to keep battling, then you would've surely put not only it's health in jeopardy, but your qualifications as a Trainer as well," Misty's mother commented.

"Alright Pikachu, you're our last line of defense," Lincoln said.

"I won't let you down, Lincoln!" Pikachu replied, as he leapt into battle.

"Alright, Pikachu VS Dewpider, begin!" Misty's mother declared.

"We need to keep our distance, Pikachu, so use Thundershock!" Lincoln instructed. Pikachu then fired off Thunder Shock at Dewpider.

"Quick, use Protect!" Misty instructed. Dewpider erected the barrier, only for it to fall, thus allowing Thunder Shock to strike the Water Bubble Pokemon. Sparks began flying off of Dewpider, "Crap, now Dewpider's confused!"

"Which means this is the perfect time for this move! Use Electro Ball!" Lincoln instructed. Pikachu gathered electricity into a ball on its tail, before hurling it at Dewpider, sending the Water/Bug Pokemon careening back into the wall, completely unconscious.

"Dewpider is unable to battle, the win goes to Pikachu!" Misty's mother declared. Misty then recalled Dewpider.

"That was excellent battling, Dewpider. Now get some rest for now," Misty said, as she readied her third and final Pokeball, "Well Lincoln, this is it! If you can't overcome this wall, then you won't be getting that Cascade Badge!"

"With careful planning, there's no wall that can't be overcome," Lincoln defiantly said.

"Hmm, good attitude. Now, for the pride of the Cerulean City Gym, our ace Pokemon!" Misty said, tossing the Pokeball, releasing a massive, blue sea serpent like Pokemon with a three-pointed crest on its face.

"Oh, Sugar Honey Iced Tea! Please tell me you're not going to have me battle that monstrosity?!" Pikachu was freaking out, turning back to Lincoln, who had a thoughtful look on his face. It almost looked, nostalgic.

'That's one of the Pokemon I saw in my dream back home,' he thought, before taking out his Pokedex, and pointing it at the sea serpent.

"Gyarados, the Atrocious Pokemon, a Water and Flying Type. Gyarados' temper is legendary, and there are records of its rampages lasting for an entire month. One of these records indicates that a Gyarados razed an entire village to the ground after the villagers had angered it in some fashion," his Pokedex explained.

"Lincoln? You ok?" Pikachu asked, snapping him out of his trance.

"Huh? Oh, sorry Pikachu, I guess I was just lost in thought," Lincoln replied.

"Do any of those thoughts include finding a way to NOT battle that thing!?" Pikachu exclaimed, still freaking out. Lincoln was concerned. He had never seen Pikachu so scared of anything. He suspected Gyarados had something to do with it. Looking down, he saw Ralts was also cowering a bit at the sight of Gyarados.

"Wondering why Pikachu's acting so scared? It's because of Gyarados' Ability: Intimidate. When Gyarados enters battle, it's ability lowers the Attack power of the opposing Pokemon. And by the looks of it, it's doing what it's supposed to," Misty commented smugly. Pikachu looked to take great Umbridge to that.

"Did she just insinuate that I'm a coward? Alright, that's where I draw the line!" Pikachu declared, as he faced Gyarados once again.

"We need to score a big hit as quickly as we can, Pikachu, so use Electro Ball!" Lincoln instructed. Pikachu charged up Electro Ball, and hurled it at Gyarados.

"Gyarados, use Twister!" Misty instructed. Gyarados summoned Twister to block Electro Ball, "Now, use Dragon Dance!" Gyarados then began twisting and twirling it's body around, causing it to glow red.

"What was that?" Lincoln questioned.

"Information: Dragon Dance: A Dragon Type Status Move that increases the user's Attack and Speed," his Pokedex explained.

"Oh man, that cannot be good!" Lincoln exclaimed.

"You're right, it isn't! Gyarados, use Ice Fang!" Misty instructed. Gyarados' fanged bcame cloaked in ice, as it sped towards Pikachu.

"Pikachu, dodge, and use Thunder Shock!" Lincoln instructed. Pikachu desperately dodged Ice Fang, before unleashing Thunder Shock at point blank range, causing a lot of damage to Gyarados, who remained standing.

"Gyarados, use Aqua Tail!" Misty instructed. Gyarados' tail became enveloped in water, as it swung it at Pikachu, sending the Mouse Pokemon into a large rock in the battlefield. Just then, sparks began to fly off of Gyarados, "Crap! I forgot about Pikachu's ability!"

"Pikachu's ability?" Lincoln questioned.

"Yeah. It's a fairly common one among Electric Types called 'Static'. When an opponent makes contact, sometimes they'll wind up paralyzed. This could work in our favor, because I don't know if I can handle another hit like that," Pikachu said to Lincoln.

"In that case, we need to finish this up fast, so use Electro Ball!" Lincoln instructed. Pikachu began to charge up for Electro Ball.

"We can't afford to let them to fire that! Gyarados, use Ice Fang again!" Misty instructed. Gyarados once again charged at Pikachu, in an attempt to use Ice Fang.

"Quick, switch to Iron Tail and smack it away!" Lincoln instructed. Pikachu did so, but failed to notice that he had still charged up electricity for Electro Ball, which seemed to have fused with Iron Tail, coating Pikachu's tail in electricity. The voltage from the attack appeared to be evaporating the water around Lincoln.

"What's going on with my tail?" Pikachu questioned.

"Could Iron Tail have absorbed the Electro Ball energy?" Lincoln theorized.

"Could be. But it's kind of starting to burn right now, so I need to get this electricity out of my tail, now!" Pikachu called back.

"Oh, right! Pikachu use… whatever this is!" Lincoln instructed. Pikachu then charged at Gyarados, and with a mighty swing of it's tail, a sound like a gunshot went off, as Gyarados was sent hurdling back into the wall, completely spent from the battle.

"YEOWCH! My tail f***ing hurts! Oh Arceus, why does it sting so badly?!" Pikachu screamed in pain, as he held his tail.

"Gyarados is unable to battle, the winner is Pikachu! Therefore, victory goes to the challenger, Lincoln Loud!" Misty's Mother declared, still in a daze from what she had just witnessed.

"No way, what even was that?" Misty questioned, as she recalled Gyarados.

"Heck if I know. It just happened when Pikachu was switching from Electro Ball to Iron Tail," Lincoln said, as he helped with Pikachu's tail.

"I don't care whatever it was, we are not doing that again unless it's necessary!" Pikachu snapped.

"Wait, you want to use it again?" Lincoln asked.

"Lincoln, that attack was far stronger than anything I've ever produced in my life. It would be stupid NOT to use it," Pikachu replied.

"Ok, but what should we call that move?" Lincoln wondered.

"Well, how about 'Volt Tail'? It seemed to utilize electricity stored within Pikachu's tail after all," Misty's Mother suggested.

"Hmm, 'Volt Tail', huh? Has a bit of a ring to it. Thank you for that," Lincoln said.

"You're most welcome. Now then, here are your prizes for defeating Misty," Misty's Mother said, presenting Lincoln with a blue colored TM, and the prize he had been longing for since coming to Cerulean City- the Cascade Badge.

"Awesome! Thanks so much for this," Lincoln said, before looking at the TM he got as a bonus, "Hmm, Water Pulse. Guess now I can stop mooching off of Misty's TM," he stated.

"Well, congrats on your win. But was that last move really just made up at that moment?" Misty asked, joining the group.

"Yeah, we were just as surprised as you," Lincoln replied.

"Uh, hello!? Tail in excruciating pain here!" Pikachu yelled.

"Oh, right! Sorry to cut this short, but I have to take Pikachu to the Pokemon Center now," Lincoln stated, picking up the Mouse Pokemon. He also took a moment to recall Ralts.

"Perfectly understandable. If that move is anything like a Volt Tackle, then your Pikachu must've taken a lot of recoil damage," Misty's mother replied, as Lincoln bolted out of the gym.

"I'd better go with him," Brock stated, following after the white-haired lad.

"I should go take Gyarados and the others to get treated as well," Misty replied, as she made her way for the locker room.

"Alright you three, round up the other Pokemon, and we'll take them over as well," the mother of four ordered her three eldest daughters.

"YES MA'AM!" they exclaimed, before rushing off.

Later, at the Pokemon Center,

"I'm going to go do some Wonder Trading Pikachu, then I'll give Professor Oak a call," Lincoln said, as he left Pikachu, Riolu, and Zubat in the care of Nurse Joy.

"Roger that," Pikachu replied, as he and the others were wheeled off by Chansey.

"So, how do you like Wonder Trading?" Brock asked.

"It's amazing! Getting Ralts and Riolu was an amazing experience!" Lincoln replied, as he accessed his storage boxes. He swapped Beedrill, Pidgeotto, and Pikachu's Pokeball out for the Paras, and spare Cleffa and Clefairy he had caught in Mount Moon, "And I plan on exchanging these three for some more rare Pokemon."

"Hmm. Maybe I'll do that with the two Geodude I caught in Mount Moon," Brock said, as they made their way over to the Wonder Trade Station. Entering, they saw the machine, sitting in wait, "Do you mind if I take a crack at it first?"

"Go for it," Lincoln replied. Brock then placed the first of his two Pokeballs into the machine, and hit the 'Trade' Button, sending it away in a flash of light. Moments later, a new Pokeball materialized in a flash of light. It was mostly black with green spots. He repeated the process again with his second Pokeball, sending it off in a flash of light. In a moment, a new Pokeball emerged from the machine.

"Alright, let's see what I got!" Brock said, as he tossed his two new Pokeballs. From the first one, emerged a grayish green Pokemon that looked like a floating plate with glowing yellow eyes. The second Pokeball yielded a small, green bud like Pokemon.

"Whoa, too cool!" Lincoln commented, pointing his Pokedex at the two Pokemon.

"Bronzor, the Bronze Pokemon, a Steel and Psychic Type. Polishing Bronzor's body will reveal truth. That being said, this Pokemon hates being polished.

Budew, the Bud Pokemon, a Grass and Poison Type. Budew is highly sensitive to temperature change. When it's bud opens, it is a sign that spring is right around the corner," the Pokedex explained.

"Wow, two Pokemon that were first discovered in the Sinnoh Region! Not too bad for my first Wonder Trade!" Brock commented.

"I wonder what kind of Pokemon I'll get?" Lincoln commented, as he went over, and placed the Pokeball containing his Paras in the machine, and then hit the "Trade" button, sending it off. With in a moment, a Friend Ball emerged from the machine. He then readied both Cleffa and Clefairy's Pokeballs, "Here's hoping you two like your new trainer," he said, as he placed the Pokeball containing Cleffa in the machine, before sending it off, getting another Pokeball in return. He repeated the process one more time with Clefairy's Pokeball, getting a green Pokeball with two yellow rings on it, "Alright, now to see what I got!" he said, as he tossed his Pokeballs, releasing his newly obtained Pokemon.

From the Friend Ball emerged a small, red fruit like Pokemon with propeller like sepals on the top of its head. From the second Pokeball, he got what could be described as a little brown ant like Pokemon with a large head, and a massive mouth. From the third Pokeball, a small, lavender and white slug Pokemon with green spots along its sides.

"Alright, so, who are these Pokemon?" Lincoln wondered, as he scanned each Pokemon.

"Bounsweet, the Fruit Pokemon, a Grass Type. Although it's too sugary for human consumption, Bounsweet's sweat can be watered down into a juice with just the right amount of sweetness. This Female Bounsweet is level 17, and knows the moves Sweet Scent, Razor Leaf, Rapid Spin, Splash, Play Nice, and the Egg Move Grass Whistle.

Trapinch, the Ant Pit Pokemon, a Ground Type. As it digs through sand, it's giant jaws can crush any rocks that are in it's way. It makes funnel shaped nests. This male Trapinch is Level 20, and knows the moves Bite, Bide, Mud Slap, Dig, Sand Tomb, Rock Slide, and the Egg Move Focus Energy.

Goomy, the Soft Tissue Pokemon, and the weakest of all Dragon Type Pokemon. It's covered in a slimy membrane that allows attacks made against it slide off effortlessly. It like dark and damp places as not to dry out. The Female Goomy is level 15, and knows the moves Tackle, Bubble, Absorb, Bide, Protect, and the Egg Move Poison Tail," his Pokedex explained, as the three Pokemon looked up at their new trainer curiously.

"Hey there, my name's Lincoln Loud, and starting today, I'm going to be your new trainer, so let's be friends," Lincoln said, extending his friendship to his new Pokemon.

"Wait, did you say your last name was 'Loud'?" Bounsweet asked.

"Why, yes, I did. Why do you ask?" Lincoln asked.

"Well, my old trainer had the same last name. If I recall, his name was 'Leonard'," Bounsweet replied. Lincoln was shocked.

"That's my Gramps' name!" Lincoln exclaimed.

"Your 'Gramps'?" Bounsweet asked.

"My Grandfather on my dad's side of the family. Who knew he was adventuring in a Pokemon Region too?" Lincoln commented.

"Well, why don't we go and get to know our new Pokemon while we're waiting for Misty?" Brock asked.

"Sounds good. But before I do that, I should call Professor Oak and let him know about everything that's happened between now and the last time I called him," Lincoln replied, as he recalled his three new Pokemon, and they exited the Wonder Trade Station.

"That would be of the utmost importance," Brock commented.

"Yeah, and I plan on calling home again later tonight," Lincoln added, as they entered the lobby. No sooner than they did, the Pokemon Center chime went off.

"Mr. Loud, I'm happy to report that everyone is feeling just fine," Nurse Joy said, as all three of his Pokemon were looking better.

"Hey guys! How are you feeling?" Lincoln asked.

"Rejuvenated! As much as I liked battling back there, it took a pretty hefty toll on us," Zubat replied.

"I'll do better in the next Gym Battle, Lincoln!" Riolu excitedly stated.

"And my tail isn't stinging like hell anymore," Pikachu added, looking at his tail.

"Well, that's all good to hear. By the way, I have some new teammates I want you guys to meet," Lincoln said, as he sent out the three new Pokemon, along with Ralts and Beedrill, "Everyone, meet Bounsweet, Trapinch, and Goomy. Guys, these are Pikachu, Zubat, Riolu, and Ralts. You guys get to know one another, while I go make a call to the Professor," Lincoln said, introducing everyone to the new members of his party, and vice versa, before heading over to the Video Phones, leaving his seven Pokemon to converse with one another.

"Please to meet you three. I'm Pikachu," Pikachu politely greeted. The other six Pokemon began to exchange pleasant greetings with one another, all apart from Goomy, who seemed a bit uneasy around Ralts.

"Did I do something to offend you?" Ralts asked, worried that she had offended the newest member of the team in some way.

"N-No, it's just that you're a Fairy Type, and Dragon Types like me are vulnerable to Fairy Types," Goomy replied shakily.

"Hey, you don't have to worry. You're both on the same team, so you have nothing to fear," Pikachu replied.

"Pikachu's right! I haven't known him for very long, but he seems to know what's right! He's just seems that way!" Riolu excitedly stated.

"Plus, I'm a Poison Type, which is weak to Psychic Types, but at the same time, Fairy Types are also weak to Poison Types as well, and me and Ralts seem to get along fine, despite not being on the same team for very long. Only for about a day or so," Zubat added.

"What we're saying is just give Ralts a chance to be friends with you," Pikachu urged Goomy.

"Well, I suppose I can try," Goomy replied.

"And that's all we ask," Pikachu replied, as they all got to know each other a bit better.

A few things to point out with this chapter. First of all, trainers, such as Misty and Brock have smartphones with a Pokedex function, but no Rotom. That will come a bit later on in the story.

Secondly, until he comes around again, Raigo's Pokemon list will be cut from the list of all the main character's Pokemon Lists.

Thirdly, in the next chapter, Lincoln will send some of the Pokemon he's caught back home in Royal Woods (Max. 6), and I've already, more or less, decided on which ones to send.

Fourth, the way that Lincoln sent Pikachu's Pokeball to storage isn't much different from the first episode of the Diamond and Pearl Series, where Professor Oak sent Ash Aipom's Pokeball while Aipom was arriving in Sinnoh with Ash, so there's that logic. But once he's finished with the transfers, he'll have Pikachu's Pokeball back on his belt, thus filling up one of his party slots.

Fifth, and lastly, just like in SilverNugget's story, hybrid moves, like Volt Tail will be a thing in this story. If you guys have any ideas on what hybrid move a Pokemon can learn, then let me know in the comments.
