Chapter 29: Peasant Trap

"Why don't we jump straight to stage two?" Julius suggested. "But before that, I'm counting on you guys." he addressed the teleportation mages on standby who then rearranged the battlefield. "It's easier to judge your abilities when you're forced to fight in a variety of situations."

"Or to put it simply, we don't want you to get too used to the same battlefield." Rhiannon smirked.

"And now, Team B: Xerx, Mimosa and Asta versus Team C: Kirsch, Sol and Magna." the referee called the participating teams forward. "Round one of stage two, begin."

On the battlefield...

"Cherry Blossom Magic: Magic Cherry Blossom Blizzard, plus Clones of the Beautiful Me." Kirsch wasted no time in engulfing the arena with his flower petals. "Now, repent your filthy selves within my beautiful spell."

"Asta?" Mimosa blinked, she and Zora had opted to wait out for the spell to fade when Asta pulled out the 'Demon-Slayer Sword'. Drawing his Anti-Magic into his body, he took on his 'Black Asta' form. "Here I go." without a word, he shot straight through the petal field. "Black Hurricane!"

"The sakura..." Zora gawked, seeing Asta nullify Kirsch's area spell. "Wait, forget that. The traps I'd set up..."

"Impossible." Kirsch was shocked. "What is that horrific black mass?"

"That little shrimp... blew away all the magic in the area." Sol was also amazed.

"This isn't... beautiful." Kirsch moaned.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Zora berated. "You just erased all the traps I'd set up."

"I guess that's a bit of a problem." Asta was unapologetic.

"I saw that coming." Magna grinned. "He'd been practicing his techniques like crazy. I knew he'd figure something out. You're telling everyone not to underestimate peasants, aren't you, Asta? I'm a peasant myself, but..."

"You're also a peasant?" Kirsch was shocked.

"You got a problem with that, Mr. Royalty?" Magna retorted.

"I'm going to be defiled." Kirsch squealed. "I can't fight alongside a peasant.

"Wait a sec." Magna exclaimed when Kirsch took off on a cloud of sakura petals. "You damn narcissist. The hell is your problem?"

"I can handle this on my own." Kirsch declared. "I'll finish them off myself. You two, protect the crystal."

"Here comes Mimosa's big brother." Asta was suddenly in front of a cave before Kirsch.

"Cherry Blossom Magic: Dance of 100 Million Cherry Blossoms." Kirsch let loose his streams of sakura petals.

"You really are strong." Asta acknowledged, throwing up an Anti-Magic barrier, only to have several petals pass through the shield and cut him.

"Look at the unsightly way he is fleeing." Kirsch tsked as Asta ran into the cave. "You won't get away." he followed. "I can see through your unsightly ploy." his magic senses let him detect the trap circles on the ground. "Cherry Blossom Magic: Clones of the Beautiful Me." he let his clones trigger the traps. "Did you actually think I'd fall for such crude traps?" he let loose another 'Dance of 100 Million Cherry Blossoms' at Asta. "And you went into such a narrow place where you'll have trouble swinging your sword, with no place to run. You couldn't be uglier. Wither and fall, you peasant." certain of his victory, he found himself falling into a sinkhole Asta had dug by hand. "I'm certain I erased all the trap spells."

"You moron." Zora mocked. "You keep counting on your magic detection 'cause it has higher specs than ours. That's why you fell for our low-spec, plain and simple trap that we all got sweaty digging up."

"How unsightly." Kirsch snarled. "I'll just fly right out of this primitive..."

"I feel bad about doing this to Mimosa's big bro, but I need you to pass out for a bit." Asta shot down towards Kirsch, with both 'Demon-Slayer Sword' and 'Demon-Dweller Sword' drawn and knocked Kirsch out.
