Being Moon Knight the Exterminator of Evil Weeds was not how I envisioned dealing with the last dying breaths of Metalia.

Admittedly, the idea of just being a hooligan and strike at An and Ail while they were at school had crossed my mind a few times, but I was quick to realize these two were skipping on classes for some reason. In fact, they hardly were active with their disguise, going around in their true forms and barely lingering after planning the plants.

How many they had I had no clue, but I could tell by their rushed 'moves' that they were getting more desperate. So, keeping them on their toes was working, but I was really confused on their sudden ultra-defensive approach. They previously appeared far cockier, so it felt too sudden for them to outright panic to this level of paranoia.

Maybe I was overthinking it but... maybe they had noticed me?

It was a possibility, one among many others. And it didn't truly help me in finding their blasted ship. I had to ask Yui for help, but what she found was numerous ships-like energy source that were all over the pacific. Knowing my current foes (and my luck), I couldn't disregard the chance they just put their base far away from my reach.

I thought about involving the Taimanin but... at this point, the group was already struggling with modern technology on a selective fashion: if it isn't something about guns or demon-killing, then it isn't their specialization. A fair issue, and one that kept me away from reaching out on the topic.

Instead, I focused on doing the very thing that was getting results: being a nagging hero to these b-tier villains trying to pull a quick one on my home. So, night after night, I felt getting close to get the results I wanted... until I realized that I wasn't the only one dealing with those troublesome plant-bastards.

It was during one of my nightly patrol that I had the displeasure to learn that some 'questionably bad' organizations were also having that sort of trouble. I was finishing using the herbicide that I had produced en masse to face this little crisis with the latest plant in range. The chemicals were too tough for the weeds, even as their planters started to make them bigger and stronger.

Still, I was about to leave to resume my patrol once the weed was dead when-

"Long time no see, my knight."

You got to be kidding me.

I turned around and I scowled. "Hello you too."

Yup, Kuroto. Same clothes, same creepy smile and mannerism and-

LV.40
HP: 50000/50000

Sweaty much?! How did he double his level so quickly?!

"Moon Knight... I suppose you too have been troubled by those plants, yes?"

I shrugged, deciding to play it cool for the sake of appearances. "Yeah. What about you?"

Kuroto twitched, his smile a bit of a front from the looks of it.

"It's disrupting operations, and the cause of those weeds has been planting those near some of our bases."

...

"That sucks."

"Yes, which is why I have been asked by my father to see who is behind this problem of ours and have them disposed of," Kuroto hummed, his teeth showing. "Could you please tell me, if you know, who is the cause of this trouble we share?"

"Aliens," I flatly replied. "Plant-themed aliens trying to help my current main foe."

Kuroto had one of the flattest looks a demon could muster and then he blinked. "You're not lying."

"Nope."

"Plant alients."

"Yep."

"And you know because...?"

"One of them broke my sword."

"That's..." Kuroto paused, then looked annoyed. "Wait, you mean to tell me that some plant-loving mongrel just broke my knight's sword?!"

"Yes in regard to the sword, no in regard of me being 'yours'."

"Semantics," The white-haired boy deflected. "Still, do you have any clue on how to approach these mongrels?"

"I only know that they have a ship hidden near Tokyo but... out of it. Out of my reach."

"That would explain the peculiar energy rallying by the Yokohama bay," He mumbled, then grinned. "Wanna tag along?"

"I think I need to. After all, I don't trust you."

"And why shouldn't you, my knight?"

I sighed. "First, I ain't swinging that way and, second thing, it's creepy."

...

"I-I am not gay either!" He remarked loudly. "First mom, then sis, and now you?!"

"You should just listen to yourself sometimes," I argued back, shaking my head. "So, about that offer."

He had a boat. Well, some thugs for NOMAD had it, and they gave it to us when he told them to. I didn't like having to rely on this sort of scumbaggery, but I realized as Kuroto explained his reasoning to be there that the situation may be more grim than I had suspected.

One thing was a limited drain from mere humans, another was draining from stronger lifeforms like orcs and demons. Since I still had to waste time to get to those plants, it was fair to assume they had drained far more than I had predicted.

Which in turn means that Metalia may be even closer to be reborn.

So, it was best to get this little 'mess of an attempt' from the baddy be outright wrecked by yours truly. To my relief, this wasn't a ploy from Kuroto as we did end up finding a semi-transparent ship hovering by the waves.

Once the boat finished moving, we both jumped onto it and started looking for an entry point. At this stage, I was ready to face quite a lot of trouble once inside. The desperation of Ail and An would make for quite a battle, and I wasn't sure what kind of minions they may have stacked the base with.

I expected the place overrun by vines but... as we jumped inside, we found some desolate halls. Turrets activated, sure, but they lacked any relevant stats and were quick to deal with. The entire path felt oddly 'cold'. I feel like there should have been more there, but all we found was just the maze that was leading us, slowly but surely, at Fiore.

Either him or Metalia, but I couldn't perceive her within this premise. It was clear she was still her little happy hole so... it was time to face Mamoru's childhood friend. The walk was tedious due to the turrets, but nothing that really caused us any real harm as we strolled through and... we stopped a moment as we found two strange things on the entrance.

The smell coming from both 'suits' felt quite familiar, it was a stench that truly put me in a bad mood and... Kuroto scowled.

"Okay, what is going on here and why these two go drained completely of their lifeforce?"

The disgust was mutual, but I actually recognized the source of the foul smell. Ail and An. Both were close, dead, and completely withered to the point of rapid decomposition. It was a sight for sure, and I could tell that Kuroto was quite displeased by the discovery even without knowing their identity.

"I think they are panicking," I mumbled, my brain catching up to this logic. "W-We need to move. Now."

The half-demon gave me a perplexed look, but nodded as I picked up the pace. If Fiore was willing to sacrifice An and Ail like this, then it meant that they were close for their plan's completion. Very close. And they couldn't afford facing us.

As we finally found the main room, we actually saw some vines, but those too looked darkening and growing more close to orange than green. The upper body which should have been one of a woman was replaced by a malnourished Fiore. The alien's face bore a lost look as we arrived, but soon life appeared and... he grinned.

No.

She grinned.

"Too late," Metalia mumbled, her womanly voice echoing through the dying mouth of her last minion. "You two are too late. I will not be stopped- we will not be stopped. We shall be born at once!"

The HP was rapidly draining, and I felt something else rising. The heat. It wasn't within the ship... it was beyond it. Above, it was all around. The heat, the pressure, the-

As I was trying to grasp the situation, I jumped as Kuroto was suddenly caught by glowing orange vines that rushed out of the butchered mess that once was the Xenia Flower. The boy struggled, and I rushed to help him but-

More vines came, this time catching me and coiling around me as if forming a cocoon around us. I tried to push away, but it felt like my body was no longer able to muster the power allowed to me by the Game- no, it was... it was my head. It felt so- so...

I fell asleep within that horribly warm embrace, the feeling of my energy being slowly draining ignored as I couldn't do much but... dream.

At the beginning, there was pure darkness.

Do you remember?

Then... sprinkles of light.

It was beautiful wasn't it?

But, instead of nebulas of the unending cosmo, I am greeted by-

"Serenity." I croaked quietly as my eyes opened to find similar ones to mine. Of color, of curiosity, of tiredness and... of love.

I blinked, my focus restored to some extent as I felt my body unwilling to move as the former Queen gave me her lap to rest my head on.

"Shingo," She spoke quietly, softly, and tenderly. Motherly, but also not. "I have been waiting for this but... I suppose Chaos can't let us have more time."

I remembered: the growing escalation of attacks, the Dark Kingdom getting more desperate, Fiore and the twins and now... now Metalia was free.

"...Why?" I decided to ask. "Why me?"

"You are an anomaly," She remarked, almost baffled at it than proud. "You are not within Sailor Pluto's reach. You are above this dimension's time and... within good reasons."

She wasn't the one that brought me here, but she saw a chance. She took it. And now, we were here. On our Moon.

"...I see."

"I still love you," Serenity spoke, honesty at the forefront with that confession and a smile perching on her lips. It wasn't a happy smile, however. "I always wondered how a son would fare under my care but... I guess having a daughter showed me that I was truly a bad mother."

"You... you didn't mean it. To hurt her."

"Yet I did. And I bear the sin of what came to be. I should have been more careful," The former queen hummed. "I thought she would have been like me but... she is so much more, isn't she?"

"My sister-"

"Will never die. Or change due to her past burdens," The woman assured softly, a hand moving some hair away from my forehead. "You too will live to be a proper man. One that, I hope, to give a chance to be truly grand."

"I am not that great either," I admitted, looking away from her for a moment. "I am not a kid but-"

"But you are a child to any of us," Serenity interjected, snorting quietly. "You are still you deep down, Shingo. And you humans are wonderful because you never stop growing. It's only a matter of limitations of one's age that makes you stop. But you are endless and wonderful. That's why my daughter loves you all. That's why she loved her prince. That's why she loves her little brother so much."

...

"Usagi is in trouble," I thought aloud. "I should be out now."

"You should. But this is nonetheless... important," She hummed, sounding nervous for once. "I understand you don't trust me fully, but I know you care for her just as much as I do. You need to be her guardian and her protector."

"I will protect all."

She sighed. "She was like that too. Stubbornly loving of her people and the humans. You two... I wonder, I always wonder."

"...So?"

"Promise me, Tsukino Shingo..."

Everything went suddenly dark as I felt something burning from within my chest. Raging and demanding to be let out.

Promise me that you will accept giving up when you will truly have a family to protect as selfishly as you can.

I knew what she meant. I knew what she asked. I knew that she knew me. I knew...

I had to cut my way out of that dark cocoon with the burning sword born from my chest, a single slice strong enough to break free!

Season I finale is around the corner and... expect a little surprise between seasons. I had the opportunity to think about this and there will be some 'non-canon/movie' chapters meant to add a bit more flavors to some ideas I have that I can't put as properly canonical to this story.

Nothing too extreme or bullshitty, but expect stuff to get interesting in those future chapters.
