Chapter 19: Doubt?

May 10, 2001

Once Grissom, Sara, Ashley & Belle made it to Los Angeles (Nick had to stay until tomorrow since the lab was already losing Sara and Grissom for a bit) by vehicle, Grissom drove them right to the beach house, and after they got there, they grabbed their bags and went inside to put them in 'their' rooms before Ashley and Belle went outside and Sara and Grissom took inventory on what foods and drinks they needed to stock up for the next eight days.

Eventually Sara was standing inside by the sliding glass door, watching Belle and Ashley and she spoke with a sigh. "I know we have a beautiful home we designed ourselves and it's very special to me, I wouldn't trade it for anything. But this place, in my mind, is a little more..."

He cuts her off as he walked up behind her and wrapped his arm around her waist. "Special, I know. And do you know why I feel that way?"

She closed her eyes as she savored his arms being around her and smiled. "I think I can take a guess."

He moved his mouth to her ear and whispered. "Ok, try me."

Trying to stop the pleasant shiver from going down her spine from that one moment, she cleared her throat and turned around in his arms so she could look at him. "This is the place you knew you could really love me."

He nodded as he cupped her cheek and spoke with emotion. "I got to know the full Sara here, her story, and I couldn't help but fall deeper in love with her."

Seeing that love and passion in his eyes for her, gave her that warm and fuzzy feeling as she sighed again before speaking softly. "And the insecure part of me thought after I had told you my full story you would have ran for the hills, even though you said all the right words. I mean I knew you wouldn't have abandoned your child, but me on the other hand..."

She trails off and he shook his head as he brought her closer. "Never would I, or ever will, abandon you."

Whatever she was going to say next got lost when his lips touched hers and it was quickly deepened as his hand slipped under her shirt to her stomach, but when his mouth went down to her neck, Sara finally got some sense back and started to speak, while also enjoying the feeling he was giving her. "Uh babe, you know we aren't exactly alone right now, and uh...and we need to get out of here and go to the store...and uh, see a few people."

After a few more nips at her neck, he moved his mouth back up to ear and whispered. "You know Belle will be with my mom tonight and Ashley will be staying with Jo and Josh for the night."

With Sara and Grissom doing the tradition of not sleeping in the same bed the night before the wedding, they knew they could have this night to themselves, which Ashely had sensed that, that's why the last time they talked, Ashley asked Jo if she could stay with them for a night, and they really didn't have to convince Belle to stay the night with her grandma since it's been a few months since they had seen one another.

Sara had enough strength to pull back and she cupped his cheek while catching her breath before speaking with a smile. "Then definitely a raincheck."

They smiled as they shared one more kiss, then they pulled back, composed themselves before Grissom released her, then she opened the back door to tell Ashley and Belle it was time to go while Grissom was walking towards the front door with a spring in his step and smile.

After leaving the beach house, they headed for Jo and Josh's place first, and it was big, but a one story house that had three bedrooms, including a master bedroom that came with their own bathroom, another full bathroom, an office room, which technically could have been another bedroom, a two car-garage and a spacious living room, dining room and kitchen that was completely up to date on appliances.

Once they had the tour, they visited a little longer before Sara, Grissom and Belle left so they could go see his mom, and while staying for dinner wasn't in their plans, that's what ended up happening, which Sara and Grissom couldn't help but secretly glance at one another throughout the evening, or at least they thought they were being sneaky about it.

Grissom was in the kitchen cleaning up when Betty Grissom walked into the room with a smile, got his attention before signing. 'I appreciate the help, honey, but we both know you don't want to be doing this right now, you and Sara have other things on your minds.'

Grissom smiled shyly as he tried to sign. 'Mom...'

But she cuts him off with another smile. 'You don't think I get that? You two will have a little time to yourselves before the wedding, you're in love, so go enjoy the rest of your evening with your future wife.'

This time he smiled with pride while thinking of Sara as his wife before he 'asked.' 'Did that feel a little foreign for you?'

She nodded. 'But it's a long time coming, and I couldn't be happier for you two. I only wish that..."

She stopped signing so she could wipe a few tears away before he nodded in understanding then signed when he got her attention again. 'I know mom, I wish dad was here too."

She smiled again. 'He would have loved her.'

With another smile on his face, he signed again. 'You think?'

Grissom knew his mom knew his dad better than anyone ever did, outside of his own parents of course, so when she says something about how his dad might have felt about something, he really did believe it.

'Absolutely honey, especially because he could see how happy she makes you, oh and that daughter of yours would be completely spoiled."

He gave her a smirked look as he replied. 'You mean more than she already is with you.'

Betty smiled with pride. 'It's my right as her grandmother that I get to spoil her.'

'That it is, and she's lucky to have a grandmother like you.'

She shook her head with tears in her eyes. 'I'm the lucky one, and not just with her, with you as well. I love you. I love you all so much.'

'We love you too.'

After they shared a kiss and hug, she shoos him away. 'Now get out of here so I can spend time with my granddaughter.'

Not needing to be told twice, he nodded with a smile, gave her one more kiss to the cheek and pulled back, but before he was out of reach, Betty got her son's attention one more time and signed something else that made him have another embarrassed look on his face before he walked out of the room, which only caused her to chuckle and shake her head.

It wasn't very long after he left the kitchen that Sara and Grissom left his childhood home, and while they followed through with their plans on going to the store, they only got a few items, so they'll have to go back tomorrow, especially for Sara's all girl party tomorrow night, but they didn't care, at this point they just wanted to be alone together.

When they got back to the house, they both carried in the groceries, but he unpacked while she set up the living room, and when he was done, she had just finished lighting a candle and had set it on the fireplace mantel, then when she turned around their eyes were already showing the passion in them as he walked up to her, and after looking at the set up on the floor, he cupped her cheek and whispered. "You sure you want our last night before we get married on the floor in the living room?"

She smiled as she moved her hands to the buttons of his shirt and started to undo them. "I just thought we could be a little adventurous tonight."

He then raised an eyebrow as he asked. "Are you saying we aren't adventurous enough?"

She shook her head with a chuckle as she slid his shirt off his shoulders. "I'm not saying that at all, we've had some adventurous times, like the car a few times." When he shook his head with a wince, she continued with sympathy as her hands went to his belt on his pants. "But I know you didn't care for that."

He shook his head and replied with love. "Because you deserve better than inside a car."

She smiled as she slid his pants down his legs. "Down at the beach, on the deck, pretty much every room in the house." He was about to speak, but she finished for him while his hands went to the hem of her shirt. "Both of them."

While he lifted the shirt up and over her head, he spoke with passion as his hands went to the button then zipper of her pants. "You forgot one, probably our most adventurous moment."

Once her pants were down her legs, she moved her legs out of them, so they were now only in their undergarments, then she took his hand and moved them closer to their spot on the floor so they could lay down, and when they were, he was above her and she finally spoke with a smile as she cupped his cheek. "The plane, you didn't care for the car, but the bathroom in a plane you had no problem with."

His eyes get even darker, making her body respond as he finished softly but with some more passion to it. "Well, someone had to get me into that mile high club."

Ever since she told him about her experience in a bathroom on a plane, she could tell he was a little jealous about it, so when they went to Boston together for the first time to see Jo and Josh, whom they were just seeing one another at that time, he was the one that brought up them going to the bathroom, which did surprise her a little, but had no problem following his lead if that's what he truly wanted.

She smiled as she brings him down to her level. "I'm glad it was me, and unlike the first time I had done it, it wasn't overrated. Nothing about you is overrated."

He smiled as he whispered against her lips. "Good to know."

After that moment it was all about the feel of their lips, the touch of their hands and the movement of their bodies, consuming all the love, passion and desire they had for one another.

Afterwards, while wrapped in their own throw blankets, they were sitting up, eating ice cream, which was one of the items they had bought earlier, when Sara looked over at Grissom and asked with a smile. "So, you good, anything hurt or feel out of place?"

He shook his head with a chuckle. "No, I'm good."

She smirked before she took another bite of her ice cream. "Good, because I need you in tip-top shape in two days."

He smirked in return. "Really? For whatever for? What's going on in two days?"

"Well, you see." She sets her bowl down on the floor and makes sure the blanket is around her before she moves so she could sit in his lap, facing him, and finished speaking while cupping his cheek. "I finally get to marry the love of my life, and I would like him being pain free for the occasion."

He gives her a small smile with another slight chuckle. "Yep, I'm good."

When he lost the smile a moment later, and while it was only for a second, Sara saw it, along with something else that passed in his eyes, so she ran her thumb up and down his cheek as she asked softly. "Hey, where did you just go?"

He cleared his throat and shook his head, setting the now empty bowl of ice cream on the floor. "It's nothing."

"No, it's not nothing. I know it was there only for a second, but I saw a little doubt, so what is it?"

He took a breath and ran his hand up and down her back as he spoke. "There might come a time, sooner than we'll probably like, that our sometimes-adventurous nature will have to be tamed until we are in a more suitable place."

There was a pause as Sara tried to work out what he was getting at, then she asked. "Wait, are you talking about..."

He cuts her off with a sigh. "I'll be fifty in five years. You know you'll be married to a..."

This time she cuts him off. "Hey babe, we've been waiting for this moment for nine years, don't be backing out on me now. Besides, you know I never once cared about our age difference." She then smiled with a smirk. "And you really think I care where we are intimate? Just give me a bed with you in it and I'm all set."

He did do a little chuckle, then he took her hand off his cheek and kissed it before shaking his head slightly. "I just don't want things to become boring for you."

She shook her head with a few tears in her eyes. "When I'm with you, no matter what we are doing, I'm anything but bored. Believe me, it will never be boring between us."

He slipped his hand out of hers and cupped her cheek to wipe a few tears off before he replied softly. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be, I want to know how you feel about things and not have you dwell on them." He gave her a nod with a small smile, then Sara moved her hand to his cheek and cupped it again while saying. "And Griss, I'm going to love you no matter your age, and I hope to god I get to see you beyond your 80's."

He chuckled again. "You sure about that?"

She gives him that full fledge 'Sara' smile with a nod. "Absolutely."

Feeling better, he smiled in return and brings her closer so they could kiss, and after a somewhat passionate kiss, they pull back and this time it was Sara that had that 'look' in her eyes, so he asked while cupping her cheek. "Hey, now where did you go?"

She took a breath before she started to speak softly. "Speaking of our ages, I'm going to be thirty this year."

He shook his head with another chuckle with a light push to her shoulder. "Oh, get out of here."

But she shook her head. "I'm being serious, you know you'll no longer be with someone in their twenties."

He ran his thumb up and down her cheek as he replied. "And you'll still be the most beautiful woman in the world to me, no matter your age, and I hope to god I get to see you in your 80's." As she smiled shyly, he continued after clearing his throat. "Besides, I'm actually looking forward to it."

She raised an eyebrow. "What, me being in my 80's?"

He chuckled again. "Yes, but I mean you turning 30."

She raised an eyebrow with curiosity. "Why?"

"I guess you haven't noticed some of the looks I've been getting for the past nine years when we go out together, like their judging me that I'm doing something wrong because I'm involved with a woman in her 20's, especially when you were in your very early 20's."

She shook her head with a smile. "No, I haven't noticed, but if I had, I probably would have kissed you in front of everybody who gave you that look because I wouldn't have cared what they thought. The only thing I care about is our love for one another, our daughter and any other future children we are blessed with. This is our life, no one else's, and in two days, I'm going to marry the man that I love, the only man I ever truly loved, or will ever love for the rest of my life."

He smiled as he brings her closer to her. "For the rest of my life as well."

Her smile was against his lips, and they held it there for a moment before they knew they couldn't resist any longer and the kisses became deeper and passionate again while they started to remove the throw blankets from their bodies.
