Chapter 23: The Wedding Night
When Sara felt like she could walk without her knees buckling while seeing the man she loves in a traditional black tux, her and Belle started walking down the stairs until their bare feet touched the sand.
They walked the few feet until they reached not only Grissom or Mike, but a friend to Grissom's mom so she can interpret what was being said for Betty.
Grissom shared a hug and kiss with his daughter before Belle hugged and kissed her mother then took the bouquet of flowers from her and stepped behind her so the ceremony could start.
But before it did, Grissom took a breath and smiled. "You look very beautiful."
She smiled in return. "You don't look bad yourself."
They took a moment to just look at one another, then they both looked at Mike, and Grissom nodded his head at him so he could start, which he did a moment later while their family/friends were standing on the steps and at the railing of the deck listening and watching the beautiful scene.
When Mike got to the vows part, he said. "Now Sara and Gil have told me they have written their own vows." He turned to Sara first. "Sara."
Sara nodded while looking at Mike before looking at Grissom and taking a breath, the interpreter, and everyone else for that matter, waiting for what she had to say.
Sara finally spoke a moment later. "Some of you know the story on how Gil and I met, but for those of you who don't, well I met this man in a bar. I just turned 21 and my best friends and I took a road trip to Las Vegas, and as I was getting the drinks my girls were hatching up a plan, a bet to see if I would kiss the next man that walked into the bar we were in, which they knew I wasn't that daring so they probably thought they could make a few easy bucks off me, sixty, I might add." After they all chuckled, Sara continued with a smile. "But I surprised them all when I accepted because to me it did start out as a challenge, and I don't let challenges go, at least not without a strong fight, which is a good thing I didn't let it go because what you all don't know was that the moment I saw this man walk into that bar, before even meeting his eyes, I knew something felt different, my life had changed in that moment, then it changed even more after that kiss and many moments after." She paused before she finished with emotion. "I don't know where life will take us down the road we are on, but I know with everything in me I don't want to go down this path with anyone else, you are my heart, my home, my soulmate, my best friend, the father of my child and the love of my life, and I can't wait to continue on this journey with you, I'm yours till death do us part, probably even longer than that."'
They all chuckled at that last part while Grissom smiled as he cupped her cheek to wipe her tears away, then Mike looked over at him with a smile of his own. "Now Gil, your turn."
Grissom took a breath before he spoke with a smirk. "Hard to compete with that speech."
After they all chuckled again, Sara spoke with a smile while cupping his clean-shaven face. "Just speak from the heart babe."
He took another breath with a nod while taking her hand off his cheek, then he spoke again. "Growing up, and in my opinion, I had a front row seat to the best love story there ever was, my mom and dad, and while it was unfortunately cut short, shorter than either of us would have liked, my mom never gave up her love for him, and I always wondered if I would ever be lucky enough to find a strong love like that." He took a moment and Sara squeezed his hand to calm him down before he continued once again. "Which thankfully I did, I found it on that fateful night in that bar when I heard this young woman's voice say, 'Excuse me', and when I turned around and saw her face for the first time, even before I kissed her, I knew my life had changed, and after we kissed, I never looked back. I knew I found the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with that night, and I just got so damn lucky that she felt the same, that she took a chance on loving me, even when times weren't ideal, which instead of those times breaking us apart, our love only grew stronger, strong like the love I saw between my parents. Now I don't know where life will take us down the road we are on, but I know with everything in me I don't want to go down this path with anyone else, you are my heart, my home, my soulmate, my best friend, the mother of my child and the love of my life, and I can't wait to continue on this journey with you, I'm yours till death do us part." He then smirked at the end. "And yes, probably even longer than that."
They all chuckled one more time as the bride and groom were both wiping tears from each of their cheeks, then came the rings, so Grissom pulled the ring boxes out of his pockets and took the matching golden bands out of them, placed the now empty boxes back into his pocket, gave Sara the ring she was supposed to put on his finger while he kept hers, then Mike cleared his throat and looked at Grissom first. "Alright, Gil, repeat after me, I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness to you."
Grissom repeated those words as he slid the golden band down her ring finger before Mike looked at Sara with a smile. "Now Sara, repeat after me, I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness to you."
After Sara repeated those exact same words as Grissom did while sliding the wedding band down his finger, Mike smiled again as he finished his speech. "Now that you have given and received a ring as a symbol of your promise, by the power vested in me I now pronounce you husband and wife. Gil, you may now kiss your bride."
Grissom smiled bright while his left hand cupped her cheek, which meant it was the first time Sara felt his ring against her skin and it already sent pleasant shivers down her spine while he stepped closer. "Gladly."
He ran his thumb up and down her cheek as they looked into each other's eyes, then she smiled with a slight nod before he brings her in for a kiss, a passionate but tasteful kiss when they were in front of people, especially in front of friends and family.
Once they pulled back, they looked at their friends/family to which they started cheering and clapping, then the newlyweds turned their attention to their daughter, giving her hugs and kisses before the five of them headed to the deck.
After the family was greeted on the deck, they grabbed some food from the table before taking their spots at their table then everyone else did the same, and as they were eating there were multiple speeches from their family/friends, which they mostly ended up having everyone laughing until tears were in their eyes.
Eventually, once they had eaten and had made rounds to greet everyone who showed up, it was time for the first dance for the husband and wife, so Grissom took his wife's hand and they headed back down to the beach and started dancing real close to one another, and in the middle of the dance when he kissed her neck and was running a hand up and down her back, she started to smile before she spoke softly in his ear, even though there was no chance anyone could hear them anyways.
"I understand how you're feeling right now, but I did promise the girls a few more hours before we run everyone off." She heard him do a good-natured sigh before she spoke again. "Then you'll have me for the next 5 days."
He pulls back so their eyes were connected, and they were already brewing with passion. "With no interruptions?"
Sara shook her head with another smile as she cupped his cheek. "With no interruptions, babe. It's just me and you with as little clothing as you want."
Although with their daughter leaving with Nick and Ashley tomorrow morning to go back to San Francisco so she doesn't miss anymore school days, they did promise to have breakfast with them, which included his mom, Warrick, Catherine and Lindsey. But other than that, nothing else was planned so they were free to do whatever they wanted for the next 5 days.
He moves his lips to her ear and whispers. "You better be careful what you ask for."
She wrapped her arms around his neck to bring him closer to her as she whispered in return. "I think I can handle it, bugman."
He took a breath, both knowing what that nickname and her closeness was doing to him right now, before he spoke. "You know you're not making things any easier right now."
She chuckled as she stepped back. "You're right, I'm sorry. I'll behave."
When they looked into each other's eyes again, he replied softly. "I love you, and I'm going to do everything in my power to make you the happiest wife in the world."
She smiled while running her fingers through his hair at the nape of his neck. "That's not going to be very hard to do because I am already there, you don't have to change anything on what you've been doing for the past nine years, particularly the last two, nothing will change." She then slid her left hand down his arm to take his left hand off her so she could look down at the wedding band around his finger, then looked into her husband's eyes, which sent more pleasant shivers down her spine as she finished. "Well, I guess one thing will be different, I finally get to call you my husband." He smiled with joy and love in his eyes then they kissed before they enjoyed the rest of the song in silence.
A little more time went by, and Mrs. Grissom finally got a moment alone with the newlyweds, which the way Betty was looking at Sara, she could probably guess what this 'conversation' was going to be about, considering she never knew the whole story on how her and her son had met.
'So, you kissed my son because of a bet?'
Sara took a breath with a nod. 'Well, technically yes, it started out that way...' Betty was going to sign, but Sara continued before the older woman could. 'But the minute our eyes met, I didn't care about the money or the challenge. In fact, I wasn't even going to go through with it, I was actually prepared to back out, but your son insisted that I do it.'
When Betty looked at her son with a raised eyebrow, Grissom nodded with a smile. 'It's true mom, I just knew she could never live it down with her friends if she didn't go through with the bet, I felt I had to help her out.'
Betty then looked at Sara again. 'So, what happened to the money?'
'I didn't even accept it because I knew the moment before and after we kissed that what we shared was priceless.' Sara then finished with a smile and love in her eyes. 'It may have started out as a bet/game, but believe me, which you should know by now, that your son means everything to me, and the life we are sharing is no game.'
Betty took a breath and nodded her head before she signed again. 'I'm sorry, just finding out the full story kind of shocked me.'
'It's ok, Betty, I get it, and I probably would have felt the same if the roles were reversed.'
She gave the younger woman one more nod before she signed something Sara wasn't expecting. 'And by the way, Sara, it's 'mom' now, which really it should have been 'mom' for years.'
Sara gasped then signed with tears in her eyes. 'Are you sure?'
Betty nodded with a smile, also getting emotional. 'You're officially part of the family, and like I said, you have been for years.'
'I'm honored, thank you Be...mom, that's going to take me time to get used to.'
'You now have all the time in the world.'
As Sara nodded, daughter-in-law and mother-in-law shared a hug, then after they pulled back, Grissom asked his mother for a dance, which she accepted, so they went down to the beach to join in with some of the other dancers.
After a few more dances came and gone, which among them was a Belle and Grissom one along with Warrick and Lindsey, Jo took pity on the newlyweds and offered her place for the people who still wanted to party, so their family and friends took whatever food they wanted, which was welcomed by Sara and Grissom, said goodbye to the newlyweds and left the house.
When the last people left, that included their daughter, who will be staying with her grandmother tonight with Lindsey, Grissom closed and locked the front door before looking back at Sara, who was now standing by the stairs, and she smiled. "I'll be upstairs."
He nodded with a smile. "I'll be up in a few minutes. I'm going to take care of whatever food is left."
She nodded in return before she headed upstairs, and he watched her until he couldn't see her anymore and headed outside on the deck to take care of his task.
Once he was done, and everything was locked, he headed upstairs, his heart racing a little at the thought of what he might see, and when he did take a step into the room, where it was bathed in candlelight, he just about lost his breath for the umpteenth time today as his wife turned to look at him. "Wow, as beautiful as you looked all day, you look even more beautiful in this moment."
Wearing a spaghetti strap, red nighty that went just above her knees, Sara smiled shyly as she walked towards him. "So, my husband likes what he sees, then."
His breath hitched when he heard that title before he spoke softly. "Very much so, but you know what I like even more?"
She took his hand and led him into the room while asking softly. "What?"
He then surprised her when he suddenly put his hand on her waist, turned her around, closed the door with his now free hand and lead her until her back hit the door lightly before he whispered in her ear passionately, now that they were alone. "Finally being called your husband."
His lips then went to her neck, causing her to close her eyes, enjoying the feel of them on her skin, and when she spoke, surprisingly coherently, considering on how she was feeling at the moment, she did in another whisper. "You better get use that title bugman, it's never going away as long as I got a say in it."
He moved his lips back to her ear and whispered. "Say it again."
She moves her hand to cup his cheek, indicating she wanted him to look at her, which he did before she spoke with tears in her eyes. "I love you, my husband."
His eyes filled up with so much joy, happiness, love and passion while hearing those words, then he cleared his throat, ran his left hand up her arm to one of the shoulder straps to her nighty before whispering. "And I love you, my wife."
Sara's breath now hitched, not only from those words, but the feeling of his ring against her skin was once again doing a number on her, which honestly had been all day every time he touched her with that hand, even if it was just an innocent touch, and she finally voiced that a second later as he started lowering that strap to her nighty down her arm. "I got to tell you, Griss, your ring against my skin is giving me a whole new feeling, and honestly has been there all day long."
Grissom was almost smirking as he replied. "Yeah? Pretty strong?" She nodded and closed her eyes as he slid his hand across the top of her chest so he could get the other strap down her arm, eventually causing the nighty to slide off her body, leaving her only in her matching undergarments, then he slid his hand down to her stomach, making sure the ring grazed her skin and asked while his mouth went back to her ear. "How about now?" She just nodded while biting her bottom lip as she placed her left hand on top of his, then they slipped their fingers through one another, their matching rings right next to each other.
When she opened her eyes a few minutes later, he moved his head so they were looking at one another, then they smiled as they saw every good emotion there was in their eyes before she cleared her throat and started speaking. "Now we seem to have a problem." He raised an eyebrow while she continued. "You are a little overdressed at this moment."
He smiled with another smirk. "Then I guess that's something that needs to be rectify."
"Already on it."
Before he knew it, he was down to his boxers, and he asked with a smile. "Better?"
She smiled in return as she cupped his cheek. "Getting there. Now I would like to continue exploring that new feeling some more."
His eyes grew darker as he moves closer to her, whispering. "Your wish is my command." Right before his lips touched hers.
From the moment he picked her up, carried her to the bed and laid her down on it, which their lips never left one another during that time, even when she gasped as he picked her up, it was like they couldn't get enough of one another, this new feeling of finally being husband and wife mixed in with the old feelings they still feel for one another gave them another passionate night for the ages.
Later on, while under the covers, her back was against his bare chest as their left hands were clasped together on her stomach, she whispered breathlessly. "Wow."
He chuckled while still trying to catch his own breath before he whispered. "You can say that again."
So, she did. "Wow. After all this time, how do we keep outdoing ourselves?"
He chuckled again before taking a breath and running his thumb up and down her stomach. "I don't believe we try to. It just happens in the moment, not that I'm complaining when it's one of our great ones."
She smiled as she ran her thumb over the top of his hand. "You mean, amazing ones."
He kissed her temple before whispering against it. "True but know that every time with you is amazing."
She chuckled. "Ok, then the even more amazing ones. Better?"
He kissed her temple again, then smiled. "Yes."
They got quiet as they were calming down completely, then she took a breath before speaking again. "Thank you, Griss. Thank you for, which I know I'm probably sounding like a broken record by now, but for everything." She moved slightly, their hands still clasped together, so she could turn her head to look at him. "For everything I didn't know I wanted until you came into my life."
He smiled as he commented. "I like to think of it as a beautiful record, not broken." She chuckled before he continued in a more serious tone. "And thank you for helping me find everything I've been looking for, even if I didn't act like it. I just never wanted to get my hopes up that I would find someone to spend my life with long term." He smiled again slightly. "Then you came into my life that night." He then sighed. "Which I still didn't want to get my hopes up, but I was powerless to stop what I was feeling, even knowing I might never see you again, despite all my wishing that I would."
She slipped her hand out of his so she could have a better look at him while cupping his cheek. "I know, me too." Then she smiled. "But little did we know, fate had other plans for us."
He nodded with a smile and love in his eyes. "The best plans ever."
She nodded with a loving smile. "Ever. And it ultimately led us to today." She then gets emotional. "Griss, I don't care how long it took us to get here, but I'm so honored and grateful that we are finally here, and like I said in my vows, I'm yours wherever our journey takes us."
He cupped her cheek to wipe her tears away before he spoke with emotion. "And I'm yours wherever our journey takes us. I love you."
"I love you too."
They kissed softly a few times before they get back to their original position, just wanting to enjoy the closeness and carefree/blissful moments.
