With a flick of her tail, Mer Bug touched the rock just before Mer Cat. She grinned, her long hair weaving about in the water. "I beat you again!" she cried, darting around her best friend and bubbles swirled around. "How about a rematch?" she challenged.
Cat shrugged. He loved doing everything with Mer Bug, including keeping their home safe from villains who would love to take over their watery kingdom home. "You'd probably just beat me again," Cat sighed. He wasn't a sore loser, but it would nice to win just once today.
"Hey," Mer Bug came over to take his hand. "Its not about winning, its about having fun. Hey, let's go check out that shipwreck you were telling me about, and we'll race some other time."
Spirits rising, the friends started off. Mer Cat had discovered the wreck not long ago, but today was the first chance to visit the sunken ruins.
They were almost there, when a musical bark caught Mer Cat's attention. It was Seaweed, one of the seals that lived down here, and loved playing with Mer Cat. "I'll catch up soon," Mer Cat called to Mer Bug. "Seaweed wants to play. What should we play girl?" Seaweed barked, twisting in circles. Mer Cat grinned.
They played peek-a-boo and hide-and-sneak and a game of tag. Cat streaked through the water as they raced, the finish line the abandoned wreck.
It was neck-and-neck between Cat and Seaweed. "Go, Cat!" Mer Bug cheered, and Cat's focus was sidetracked momentarily. He put on a burst of speed, touching the rotten timbers just before Seaweed touched second with her tail.
"Cat, Cat!" Mer Bug grabbed Mer Cat's hands, twirling him in a circle. "You won! You won a race!" "I did!" Mer Cat grinned happily. "Just a bit ago, you thought you could never win. What changed?" "I guess I knew if I had patience, it would happen eventually. And besides, racing is just fun!"
Seaweed butted in between the pair, and they laughed then all three darted off to explore the ship.
