Okay, first, I know that SZA wasn't around in the 1960's, but this song inspired the fic, it wasn't something I just added. At first it was gonna be this song to Pony's first break up and he starts crying when it plays bc he's mad at his gf for saying awful things and mad at himself for doing the same, but idk, I just wanted to do this so enjoy!
Ponyboy Curtis was sprawled on the living room floor, his tiny fingers pushing toy cars along imaginary roads. The afternoon sun streamed through the lace curtains, casting playful shadows that danced around him. His mother, Sally Curtis, was in the kitchen, humming softly as she prepared lunch.
"Mommy!" Ponyboy called out, his bright eyes full of anticipation.
"Yes, Pony?" Sally replied, turning to look at him with a warm, loving smile.
"Can we have a special day, just you and me?" he asked, his voice filled with the innocent excitement of a four-year-old.
Sally walked over, kneeling beside him. She brushed his blonde hair out of his eyes, her smile growing wider. "Of course, sweetheart. What kind of special day?"
"A secret Mommy and Pony day!" Ponyboy exclaimed. "Every year, on the 3rd of June, just us. We can play our favorite song and do fun things together! Our song can be... Nobody gets me!"
Sally's heart melted at his suggestion. "That sounds perfect, Pony. I promise, every year on June 3rd, we'll have our special day."
Ponyboy grinned, throwing his arms around his mother. "Thank you, Mommy. I love you."
"I love you too, my sweet boy," Sally whispered, holding him close and savoring the precious moment.
As the years went by, June 3rd became a cherished tradition for Ponyboy and Sally. They spent the day at the park, had picnics, and always made time to listen to their special song, "Nobody Gets Me" by SZA. Each year, the day was filled with laughter, love, and memories that Ponyboy held close to his heart.
On the June 3rd when Pony was twelve, the house was tense. Sally and Ponyboy found themselves in a heated argument over something useless.
"I hate you!" Ponyboy shouted, his voice breaking with emotion. "I don't want to spend June 3rd with you this year!" He stormed off to his room, slamming the door behind him.
Sally stood there, heartbroken. She hoped he would cool off by morning, not knowing it would be their last June 3rd together.
Now, at thirteen, June 3rd was like a dark cloud. The weight of his regret and grief was almost too much to bear. His brothers, Soda and Darry, and the rest of the gang—Dally, Johnny, Two-Bit, and Steve—noticed his uncharacteristic behavior but couldn't understand what was bothering him.
"Hey, Pony, what's eating you today?" Two-Bit asked, giving him a playful nudge as they lounged in the Curtis living room.
Ponyboy just shrugged, keeping his pain locked away. "Nothing. Just having a rough day."
Steve, trying to lighten the mood, turned on the radio. The familiar chords of "Nobody Gets Me" by SZA filled the room. Ponyboy froze, the song piercing through his defenses. Tears welled up in his eyes, and he struggled to keep them from falling, but failed and soon enough they poured from his eyes. He sniffled and tried to stop, but the gang noticed.
"Pony?" Johnny said slowly.
"It's okay little buddy," Darry hugged Pony and he sniffled.
Soda noticed and gently put a hand on Ponyboy's shoulder. "You okay, little buddy?"
Ponyboy wiped a tear that escaped, his voice barely above a whisper. "This song reminds me of all the things I wished I could've said while I still had time... and all the things I wish I hadn't."
Also, I'm sorry I haven't been working on "Too far gone" I got halfway through the newest chapter, but it just gets harder to continue. I used to read fanfics and like cry when the authors never came back but I'm amazed with the authors on here who wrote actual like 30 chapter long stories. Thanks to anyone who read this story!
