Day 212, 7:15 AM
Hosu City
Car Graveyard
Driving through the city for a short while, the UA students cannot travel on foot when cars block their path.
"I'll blow the cars out of the way," Bakugou groans.
Deku shakes his head. "No, Kacchan, we can't risk attracting zombies or more of those hunter guys. Come on, we'll just move through."
"It'll take us much longer."
"I can use my quirk," Uraraka suggests.
"No, we can't risk attracting nearby zombies. We only use our quirks when necessary."
"There aren't any nearby zombies, jackass," Bakugou growls. "Just watch." As he raises his arm, he winces in pain, the wound in his shoulder reminding him of his inferiority. "Damn it."
"We're going to go this way," Kaminari says as he points to an alleyway. "We'll split up and find an alternate route to Koda. You know, just in case we have to escape in a hurry."
"That sounds like a good idea," Deku nods. "But be very careful. Splitting up in a zombie horde is dangerous enough but splitting up in a city filled with hostile survivors is another thing entirely."
"Don't worry, I'll keep them safe," Jirou says.
"Good luck, Kamisquad." Deku waves them off as the dirt bike and bicycles disappear through an alleyway, leaving only Deku, Bakugou, Uraraka, Shinsou, Hatsume, Shishida, and Bondo behind.
With nothing better to do, Deku and Shishida quickly park the cars inside a small garage and cover the entrance just in case. As they move past the ocean of cars blocking their path, Hatsume scavenges from the car wrecks using a crowbar. She smashes windows and picks locks to get access to the car and takes whatever she can get.
As expected, most of these cars were raided over the last few months due to these hostile survivors living in the city so whatever she found, was in small supply and beyond its prime use.
Shinsou walks over to her and begins helping her scavenge.
"How long should this take?" Shinsou asks while crouching behind a red car.
"Well, most survivors look for food and supplies, I look for scraps." Hatsume opens a glove compartment and pulls out a screwdriver. "Look at this; a rusty old screwdriver. Worth nothing but who knows, maybe an invention of mine requires a screwdriver of this caliber."
"What can we scavenge from these cars?"
"Plenty." Hatsume uses a tool to remove the tire bolts off a car. "Some of these cars have tires that have gone bad and have obviously been siphoned off the gas." Hatsume reaches inside and uses the tool to put the car in neutral. "Hey, big hairy guy, you mind giving me a hand over here?"
Shishida regroups with Hatsume and helps her push a car forward. He pushes it as far as he can before it bumps into a car in front of him.
Hatsume looks behind her. "Hey, person in first place, we figured out a way to push these cars out of the way. It's going to take some time but we can make way for some of the cars."
"That's good." Deku walks forward, Uraraka beside him. "We're scouting ahead."
"Be careful."
"You too."
Deku and Uraraka walk forward with Uraraka keeping her sword in her holster before looking around. Looking over her shoulder, the rest of the students are out of range and she has no one but Deku to keep her company.
Deku pauses in front of a car. Looking inside, he sees a bloody stroller. His eyes widen as he backs away from the car. He shakes his head before looking forward.
"This place looks different," Uraraa notes. "It used to look more... lively. Obviously."
Deku looks at the buildings surrounding them, having a flashback of his time in Hosu during his internship. "Iida was here in Hosu City for his internship, remember?"
"Oh yeah. Wasn't his brother attacked by Stain the Hero Killer in Hosu City?"
"He was."
"DO you think Stain is still alive?"
"I'm not sure. But there's a small part of me that hopes he is. I know Iida would hope that he would be dead."
Looking forward, he leans on a rusting car and steadies himself. He looks into the car's back window and spots a decomposing corpse inside on the driver's side. Sitting next to the decomposing corpse was a zombie reaching out, banging on the window, and growling.
Uraraka heads over to the window and sees the gap at the top of the window. She unholsters her sword and very carefully jams the blade into the zombie's skull. With the threat gone, she breaks the window and opens the door. Reaching inside, she searches the zombie's pockets and pulls out a pack of cigarettes. She tosses them away before slamming the door.
"How long until we get to the hospital?"
"I don't remember the exact address but if we managed to clear out all these cars, we could get there fast."
"Legwork is good every once in a while." Uraraka freezes. "What do you think they're doing to Koda right now?"
Deku feels a chill down his spine. "I don't want to think about it. "
As Uraraka is about to say more, Deku freezes in place, eyes widening as something catches his attention. What's this oddly familiar feeling?
Looking to his left, he spots a stick of dynamite land beside a blue car. Gasping loudly, he grabs Uraraka and shoves her aside. The stick of dynamite goes off like a firework, sending a wall of dirt and dust flying high into the air with the loud sound of the TNT evolving to a ringing sound in the duo's ears.
Deku and Uraraka scream at the ear-piercing ringing sound and hide behind the green car in front of them.
"Ka-boom, motherfuckers!" a deep voice yells from the end of the field. "Hungry for some TNT bitch?!"
A second dynamite stick flies through the air and lands in front of Deku and Uraraka. Deku quickly grabs the stick and uses his quirk to extinguish the flame. "Oh my god."
"Where's the ka-boom?!" The voice goes silent. "Is that you, Midoriya? You, the boy with the flame quirk! No fucking fair. Fine then, I'll make it fair."
Three dynamite sticks fly through the air and land beside the duo. This time, instead of the cord sticking on the outside of the end of the dynamite, the cords are inside the sticks of dynamite where Deku can't use his quirk to manipulate the flames. Seeing no other choice, Uraraka makes both of them weightless with her quirk before they leap over the car. They sprint for it as the sticks of dynamite go off once more. Landing to their feet, Deku looks up to try and find the source of the attacks and sees a man wearing a welder's helmet at the end of the car graveyard.
The welder's helmet had the name 'Dino-Mite' written on the forehead.
Dino-Mite lights several more sticks of dynamite before chucking them at Deku and Uraraka. The duo manage to catch the dynamite and chuck it back at the explosive man.
Dino-Mite makes a run for it. He slides under a blue van in a single fluid motion and watches from a distance as the sticks of dynamite go off.
As Uraraka releases them from their quirk, the two make a run for it. Deku quickly takes out his matchbook, relights the cord, and throws it at the van. Dino-Mite climbs out from under the van and manage to barely make it out of range as it goes off.
Dino-Mite hides behind a pickup truck and sighs heavily. He pulls a stick of dynamite out of his inner jacket pocket before looking back. Unable to see his enemies, Dino-Mite sighs. "Playing a game of hide-and-seek like a bunch of overgrown toddlers, motherfuckers?" he whispers to himself. "Fuck this shit."
Deku and Uraraka quietly maneuver around a car while keeping their head down. When they're sure that Dino-Mite won't spot them, they move to the next car. The next vehicle they make it to is a white van with a dangling side-view mirror. Deku removes the mirror and holds it up to help him see. He sees the destroyed van from earlier but no sign of Dino-Mite.
"Deku, what are we going to do?" Uraraka asks.
"The others will have heard the explosion and come to help." Deku clenches his jaw. "Also, I can sense when a fire is nearby." He looks at Uraraka. "I was able to detect the burning dynamite cord before it landed near us. I can track this Dino-Mite guy the next time he decides to blow our fuse with his explosive fuse."
Uraraka nods. "We can use that to our advantage."
"Right." Deku looks at her. "Uraraka, go in that direction; we'll use our hands to communicate with each other. I'll get him to throw sticks of dynamite at him and once I sense the fuse being lit, I'll use my hands to tell you where he is."
"And that's when I knock him out."
"You do have the martial arts ability." Deku pauses. "Okay then, let's do this." Deku quickly moves over to another car while Uraraka moves in the opposite direction.
Whatever you do, Deku, don't get blown up. Uraraka moves away.
"Hey!" Deku yells. "Over here, asshole!"
"I love it when they want to get their head blown off, asshole!" Dino-Mite blindly lights the fuse and tosses it over to Deku's general direction.
Deku leaps to the side as the stick goes off. Though he is out of range, he once again falls victim to the ear-splitting ring. Looking over at Urarak about twenty meters away, he gestures in Dino-Mite's general direction. Uraraka follows his directions and begins moving in the opposite direction.
As Deku was about to move, he heard a familiar explosion behind him in the distance. Turning around, he spots Bakugou using his quirk to blast his way through the sky to help out Deku.
Flying over his head, Bakugou growls at the explosive sights before holding his hand out. "Peekaboo, I see you!"
Dino-Mite looks up at Bakugou, flinching and expecting the worst, when the best happened.
A powerful force of air hits Bakugou in the chest and sends him flying back, messing up his aim and making him blast a nearby window-washing platform halfway up a building.
A man wearing a white face mask with beautiful white-blond hair floats twenty meters above Dino-Mite.
"What's up, bomber man?!" the floating man yells. "Looks like you lost your touch. No one can touch the SKY HIGH, BITCH!"
Sky High flies toward Bakugou, holding his hand out and sending a powerful wind force at the falling boy. "HERE COMES THE SKY HIGH!"
Bakugou uses his explosions to blast himself into the side, barely avoiding a force that would've sent him crashing into a car where the impact would - without a doubt - kill him.
Ignoring the pain in his shoulder, Bakugou uses his quirk to shoot himself in the air and fly toward Sky High.
Sky High uses his wind force to scoop up several sharp pieces of debris from the cars below and sends them flying at Bakugou.
Both Bakugou and Sky High fly twenty meters in the air, each one using their quirks to maintain their current position but Sky High wasn't the one with a bleeding shoulder. Sky High sends a whirlwind of blades at Bakugou, who simply blasts them away. The explosive force sends Sky High flying back but he regains his composure.
"You made a big mistake, pomeranian! When I'm high in the sky, I own this fucking world!"
"Shut up!" Bakugou manuvers out of the way. "Why does everyone keep calling me a pomeranian?!"
Down below, Deku and Uraruaka continue with their plan of sneaking up on Dino-Mite. As they move through several more cars, sticks of dynamite go off in their direction. As Deku finally traces the source of Dino-Mite, he looks back to hear the roars of zombies in the distance.
Shinsou, Hatsume, Shishida, and Bondo were retreating from their original position and running away from zombies. Shinsou sprints for it, leaping over cars and hiding. Hatsume joins behind him. Shishida and Bondo use their quirks to power through and incapacitate zombies but this only causes a larger horde of zombies to zero in on them.
Damn it; us using our quirks is causing all these zombies to come toward us. Deku looks to his left as a walker pounces on him.
Deku falls to the ground and manages to kick to the zombie off of him. He backs away, feeling a stick of dynamite flying in his direction. Catching it mid-air, he tosses it in the opposite direction toward the incoming horde. The dynamite blows five zombies to pieces but only five.
"Don't throw the dynamite at them, false hero!" Dino-Mite yells. "YOUR FIGHT IS WITH THE DINO-MITE!"
Deku makes a run for it as runners sprint for him. He pushes several of them back before leaping over cars. A stick of dynamite lands in front of him. He kicks it away, nearly falling to his knees as it detonates. He looks around and sees the runners converging on his position once more. Sensing another stick of dynamite being lit, he trips a runner behind him, causing the subsequent runners to trip over him and fall on the ground. Deku catches the dynamite stick and chucks it at the pile of runners, blowing all eight of them up. As he makes a run for it, he trips on something on the ground. It was a string connected several sticks of dynamites to three different cars. Deku makes a break for it as the three dynamite sticks suddenly go off. One of the cars flies up before falling forward and resting on its roof.
Deku takes out his matchbook and strikes a flame. Let's do this, Dino-Mite.
As another stick of dynamite goes flying into the air in his direction, Deku shoots a fireball at it, causing the dynamite to go off prematurely. Looking up and seeing Bakugou fight Sky High, an idea crosses his mind.
With Shishda and Bondo, they use a combination of their quirks to defeat the zombies. Bondo sprays a strong adhesion of glue on the roof of a car, and Shishida uses his quirk to pick up the car and use it as a shield against zombies. Four zombies get stuck in the glue, which he promptly smashes against a truck, turning them into mincemeat.
One of the walks falls to the ground. It crawls over to Shishida.
Bondo sees several zombies surrounding him and he quickly dispenses more glue on the ground to trap the zombies in their tracks but due to their nature, the zombies simply continue to reach for him with some of them sacrificing their limbs to reach Bondo.
Bondo makes a run for it with Shishida finally catching up with Bondo, abandoning the car, and limping after the glue boy.
As Bakugou and Sky High continue their fight in the sky, Bakugou feels the effects of his gunshot wound as he begins losing consciousness. Fighting what his body is trying to force on him, he launches himself at Sky High. Sky High performs several acrobatic moves in the air to avoid Bakugou's wrath and shoots another force of strong winds at Bakugou's back.
Bakugou chokes up as he falls, suddenly feeling a lack of oxygen in his lungs. He pries open his eyes as he falls and sees Deku waving to him. Bakugou nods before using his explosions to send him flying in the air.
"You got guts, bomber man!" Sky High yells. "Now, it's time to see what they look like!"
Bakugou sees that Sky High is in front of him with Deku on the ground past him. He narrows his eyes. He discreetly takes out one of his grenades and pulls the pin.
He waits a split second before seeing a stick of dynamite launch from behind a green car in the distance. Narrowing his eyes, Bakugou launches himself forward, heading straight for Sky High. Sky High predictable maneuvers and pulls several acrobatic moves out of the way just as Bakugou lets go of the grenade.
Sky High turns, his back to the flying grenade as it goes off behind him, making him yell in pain.
Deku catches the stick of dynamite from the air and chucks it like a baseball player at Sky High.
Sky High barely has a second to comprehend this new and fatal information that a live stick of dynamite is now inches away from his face before it explodes. Sky High's body falls to the ground, landing on a car and causing the roof to cave in.
As Bakugou continues to soar through the air, he flies over the car Dino-Mite was hiding behind. Without wasting any time, he launches the last of his big explosions at the car and sends Dino-Mite flying back.
Bakugou loses his consciousness and begins falling to the ground. Ten feet away from touching down, a hard slap to the face makes him float suddenly.
Uraraka grabs Bakugou and gently floats to the bottom down with the explosive boy in hand.
Turning behind her, she realizes that Dino-Mite is still alive from the explosion and quickly goes to kick him upside the jaw, knocking him out.
"Deku, it's all clear!" Uraraka yells. Turning behind her, several walkers were about to pounce on Bakugou's unconscious body. Uraraka rushes them and quickly uses her sword to kill the three walkers. One of them is still standing and she proceeds to flip the zombie over her waist before finishing him off with the sword.
Deku reunites with Uraraka. "Are you okay?" Without thinking, he picks up the unconscious Bakugou over his shoulder. "That could've been bad."
"GUYS!" Uraraka yells to the others. "Come on!"
Shinsou and Hatsume move around the cars, utilizing some amateur and poorly executed parkour skills over the cars that delay them a few seconds.
How does Kaminari do it? Shinsou wonders after tripping and hitting his knee against the rear of a car hard.
The zombies begin following after the survivors with Shishida and Bondo deciding to go to the left and take shelter in a nearby building.
As Deku and Uraraka wait for Shinsou and Hatsume to reunite with them, more zombies come out from the car graveyard. Uraraka uses her quirk on a nearby car to make a makeshift shield and uses it to shove the zombies back. The ones that manage to avoid the floating car reach and claw at Uraraka. Uraraka quickly dispatches them with the sword. When the sword gets stuck in one of the zombie's skulls, Deku rushes up and kicks an incoming runner away. Due to carrying Bakugou over his shoulder, he fell hard on his back when the weight was too much for one leg. Luckily, Bakugou's body acts as a nice cushion for his head to land in. Uraraka manages to free her sword from the zombie's skull and uses it to slice the runner, decapitating it completely.
"Person in first place!" Hatsume yells.
"We're here," Shinsou adds.
"Where's Shishida and Bondo?"
"They took cover in that nearby garage," Shinsou answers. "They'll be fine, let's go!"
Deku and Shinsou help carry the unconscious Bakugou away as Uraraka and Hatsume begin covering them.
Deku looks behind him and sees Dino-Mite suddenly regain consciousness. He quickly gets to his feet and makes a run for it.
The students quickly cut through an alleyway that was barricaded with cars. They climb over the car hastily, not bothering to be careful about the unconscious Bakugou as they haul and push him over the car. Once the I've students are over, they look behind them to see the car doing its job to block off the zombies from them.
"Ladder, there's a ladder!" Hatsume spots. "Come on, hurry!"
Uraraka uses her quirk to float to the fire escape above and release the ladder. She then takes Bakugou's unconscious body and carries it to the top of the fire escape before deactivating her quirk.
The rest of the students quickly climb up the fire escape. Deku is the last one to climb up but when he does, he stops halfway up the ladder upon hearing a familiar roar. Being halfway up the ladder gave him something of a view of the car graveyard and in the distance, he could see a car fly through the air fast and high like a soccer ball. His eyes widen when he realizes there is only one zombie variant in the undead army capable of kicking cars like soccer balls.
"Beast!" he yells. "There's a beast!"
Even to this day, Deku has never seen the corpse of a beast. Walkers, runners, and brainiacs, he has seen plenty of them dead and die but beasts, not a single corpse all over Musutafu.
Uraraka and Hatsume shove Bakugou through an open window while Shinsou helps Deku climb over the railing. They climb through the window and shut it behind them. They find themselves in a small apartment building and quickly run to get away from the windows. They barricade all the doors and close the curtains over the window. They decide to sit and wait as the zombie horde surrounds them on the outside.
"We are so fucked," Shinsou groans. "This is so bad."
Deku carefully looks through the curtains to see the zombie horde wandering in all directions but their presence never completely leaves the car graveyard.
"We gotta find another way out of here," Hatsume says. "Right after I scavenge the place."
"Are Shishida and Bondo going to be alright?" Uraraka asks.
"Yeah, they'll be fine; I trust their skills," Deku nods. Deku helps Uraraka dress Bakugou's wound once more.
"Who were those guys out there?"
"More of these hunter-bastards or whatever. These guys were with Heater and Whiteout and K-Hole." Deku groans upon feeling Bakugou's blood drench the bandages. "If what Heater said is true and there's sixty, then we're at a huge disadvantage."
"But we've had experience fighting villains before, and training," Uraraka reminds them.
"Yeah, but these guys have a lot more experience in the apocalypse." Deku pauses. "This is what we get for not heading out of the UA Dorms."
"If these guys know that quirk usage attracts zombies then why bother using their quirks?"
"To attract this zombie horde."
"What? But I thought they wanted to keep Hosu City to themselves because they fought so hard to clear it of zombies."
"These guys know who we are and know that we're dangerous. They may indeed have the numbers but they're aware of how dangerous our quirks are. We also went to the most prestigious hero school in the country and we're the class that survived a villain attack on the USJ." Deku strokes his chin. "I think their plan is to distract us using zombies so they can attack us from behind."
"You killed that flying guy," Uraraka points out. "You blew him up with a stick of dynamite."
Deku nods. "I did." The first person I ever killed was Iida. Even though it was in self-defense, I still have not gotten over it. And now this Sky High guy... I'm never going to get used to killing.
"What are we going to do, Deku? What are we going to do about everyone else?"
Deku hesitates to answer. "I don't know but... I trust our classmates; they'll make it out alive."
With Anaemia
Anaemia sighs heavily as he puts the walkie-talkie down. "Well, boy, you are not going to believe this. According to Eagle Eye, your friends killed Sky High."
Anaemia turns to Koji Koda, who is chained to the wall and kicks him in the stomach. Anaemia takes a scalpel and cuts into the boy's collarbone, adding another cut to his body.
"Your friends aren't real heroes and your actions prove it. Someone like Heater isn't an easy nut to crack so the fact that they're here indicates they tortured Heater into giving up our location. Instead of knocking out Potshot, they killed him. Instead of disabling Sky High, the green-haired one threw a stick of dynamite to his face." He leans forward, his breath hitting Koji Koda's mouth. "For every one of my friends killed, you get another cut. The more cuts you have, the more fun with my quirk I get to have." He smiles behind his doctor's mask before putting another roll of duct tape over Koji Koda's mouth. "If you'll excuse me, there's someone I have to be."
After leaving Koji Koda in the dungeon, Anaemia turns to Whiteout and K-Hole. He looks at them.
"Eagle Eyes are saying that zombies are beginning to overrun the city."
"We can worry about that later," K-Hole says.
Anaemia shakes his head. "No, we got to get control of the city. If we don't, then the rest of our friends die." He slaps his forehead. "I should've called for an evacuation before I sent the elites to attract zombies."
"We cleared out the zombie horde before, we'll do it again," Whiteout claims.
"There were two hundred of us in the beginning and now, there's only 58 of us. Do the rest know?"
Whiteout nods. "Yes, the others are aware that there are zombies in the town. Someone also let it slip that we have Koji Koda of UA in our grasp." He points to K-Hole.
K-Hole holds his hands in surrender. "I had a little too much sake last night but too fair, I had been saving that sake for a special celebration. So..."
"How did they take it?" Anaemia demands.
"Maybe it was because I was buzzed or whatever but they took it well, happily, even."
"Good, because the last thing I need is an uprising. Okay then, we're going to have to evacuate, now. Round everybody up and tell them that we're going to retreat from the city."
"But sir, the 58 of us aren't going to make it," Whiteout protests, "we've fought tooth and nail for this city and if we're leaving, then all those men, women, and children who died will have died for nothing."
"They died so we can live. If we don't live then we will be spitting on their legacy. Go round everyone up and tell them we got to evacuate."
Whiteout sighs. "Yes sir."
As the two assistants leave, Anaemia rests his back on the wall and slaps himself upside the forehead.
This is what I get for being impulsive. Damn, I shouldn't have sent hunters out past Musutafu to expand our search grounds.
Anameia opens his eyes and stares at the ceiling. Class 1-A is willing to torture one of my friends to get their friend back. His eyes widen. Wait a second, if I play my cards right, maybe I can get Class 1-A to clear the dead out the city.
He smiles behind his mask.
I am the smartest man alive.
