Wanna Dance?

YAY! The arrival of Two-Bit, here to save the day!

And yes, I think Two-Bit and Marcia would make a very good couple, even though she only has, like, five lines in the book! I just love them both. They're adorable and a breath of light hearted fresh air after all the angst.

Please review and comment!

Two-Bit slid out of nowhere in all his crazy glory.

His derby was tilted rakishly over one ear, and he was, as usual, wearing a pin-striped suit in garish colors. Today it was bright sky blue with green stripes.

He winked at Marcia. "Hey, lady, how's the slave trade going?"

Marcia waggled a hand in the air. "So-so. Still haven't managed to sell off these two."

She gestured to Ponyboy and Johnny, who both waved at Two-Bit.

Two-Bit walked up and took Marcia's arm. "And where are we off to today?"

"I was maybe thinkin' about going dancing, if that grabs you."

"Doth it grab me! Yes indeedy it do!"

They dashed off, Two-Bit taking a moment to turn, wave at Pony and Johnny and yell "Tell Dar not to wait up!"

By the time Pony and Johnny looked at Cherry again, she had got herself under control. There was no emotion on her face, and her hands were steady.

She didn't look at them when she spoke again. "It'd be better if we weren't seen together."

She glanced at them. "So if we pass each other on the street, and I don't say hello, no hard feelings?"

Pony sighed a very small sigh. Of course. Nothing was ever going to change that. Heaven forbid if a Greaser and a Soc were seen together. And he had thought Cherry was different. That maybe she would see beyond the label and at them.

But she was different. She was. Because she looked at sunsets, and maybe, just maybe, understood what they meant…

So he smiled and replied "Yeah, s'okay. No hard feelings."

She smiled a little bit, and then she was gone, crossing the street and catching a taxi at the next corner.

Johnny, next to him, whispered quietly, "Who knew a Soc…" Pony nodded. Who knew a Soc could be like that? It was a new thought to them both, that a Soc could be, you know, an actual person, and not just a jerk.

Johnny turned and the introspective moment was over.

"I should be getting back to The Old Church." "OK."

As Johnny walked away, Ponyboy called out. "Oh! Johnny, if you, you know, aren't busy or anything, Soda's makin' dinner tonight, if you want to come over…"

Johnny smiled a small smile. "Thanks Pony."

Nobody ever mentioned Johnny's parents. But everyone's door was always open for him, just in case. Just like everybody pretended not to notice Johny's scars and bruises, many of them recent, but there was always someone ready with ice or a bandage. Many a time Johnny had just showed up at the Curtis's door in the middle of the night, and there was always room for him, and no questions asked. But that was about all that they could do.

Soda poked his head out the door. "Pon! You done out there? Darry wants you to get back to the books!"

Pony sighed and went back inside. Dally and Steve were there, Steve covered in oil, as usual.

If it was up to Steve, he'd spend all his time with their cars, just tinkering. But Soda, being his best bud, would drag him out into the light to do things like talk and eat and bathe (once in a while). Soda was also the only reason why Steve still had a girlfriend. Sylvie was really nice, understanding of her boyfriend's fondness for machines, but even the best girl would give up if both her birthday and anniversary, which were on the same day, were forgotten too many times.

Dally was smoking like a chimney, muttering to himself as he did so.

Pony and Johnny disappeared into the office, and it was time to get down to business.

"Well, Steve," Darry asked, "how's the car going?" Steve shrugged. "Eh. It's drivable, but we probably shouldn't do anything fancy with it for the next couple days."

"So keep Two-Bit and Dally away from it, got it." Soda said.

Dally paid no attention, just continued smoking.

Darry turned to Dally. "Dal, I want you to keep an eye on Cherry."

The cigarette fell out of Dally's mouth. "What."

Darry seemed not to notice Dally's reaction. "You know, tail her, see who she talks to, where she goes, what she does, that sort of thing. Make sure she doesn't rat us out to the Socs."

"I hate her."

Darry sighed. "I'm not asking you to marry her. Just keep an eye on her, alright? Besides, I need to keep you out of trouble for a while. That last stint in the cooler kinda depleted our resources."

Dally lit another cigarette. "Fine. But you owe me, Curtis. You owe me."

Darry gave him a very level, blank stare. "You do realize you would probably have gotten the chair by now if it wasn't for me. Or at least life."

Dally grinned a wild, crazy, sightly disturbing grin. "Yeah. But that's only because I wanted to get caught. If I didn't want to…no one in the whole world would have been able to find me."

He grabbed his hat and walked out. Everyone just stared.

"I have the feeling that we should be terrified right now." Soda remarked.

Yeah. Dally's terrifying. Imagine what he would have been like if he had been born in a superhero world…

Anyway I hope you like! I don't think any of the slang needs to be explained, it's all really simple. But if you have a question, about anything at all, feel free to leave a comment or PM me!

Thanks so much for reading!
